Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png  Flash

So this is an easy summoner choice. Anivia is an immobile champion and has a very low base
movement speed so this really is a crucial summoner in the early laning phase. If your flash is down
you will need to play farther back and with way more respect. Her flashfrost.png (Q) isn't reliable enough to
save you vs certain junglers or midlaners. Her Flash can also be used aggressively and a Flash + Wall
combo is very strong in the late game when the opposition has mobility skills and flashes down.

12.png  Teleport

Map pressure is key for soloq and teleport helps an Anivia compensate for her low mobility and relative weakness in roaming. The Flash/Teleport combo is used 100% of the time for Top lane Anivia. Teleport (TP) allows our slow bird to get across map or follow roams more efficiently with no risk of being caught slowly wading through the river. You almost never want to use TP just to get back into lane post level 6 but before that using it once during levels 1-5 is okay. For the late game people think running TP means anivia can split push but she is a much more potent team fighter. You should try to use TP to get back into team fight after getting low or to shove out another lane after winning a big team fight. A neat little trick with TP + before getting aniviapassive.png is that TP will still channel and the teleport will go through (unless a Hard cc cancels it). If timed right it’s basically a nice recall out of a gank and can save you in a fair amount of situations.

1.png  Cleanse

Cleanse is useful but situational summoner spell that is used to hard counter a couple tricky match-ups. It should be picked up when facing: 4.png Twisted Fate's pickacard.png pick a card stun, 45.png Veigar's veigareventhorizon.png event horizon, 25.png Morgana's darkbindingmissile.png dark binding and soulshackles.png soul shackles, 69.png Cassiopeia's cassiopeiar.png petrifying gasze. More details and counterplay to specific opponents will be included below in the match-ups section.

3.png  Exhaust

Exhaust should be taken against aggressive assassins like 91.png Talon, 238.png Zed and 105.png Fizz. Again we will take a closer look at how best to play these lanes in the match-ups section.

New Runes Back to Top

Kleptomancy.png?width=64 Kleptomancy
WHAT NO DAMAGE?!?! WHERE IS THE DAMAGE!? Even before the new rune system I’ve always felt that playing with all those damage runes was pretty weak on Anivia. Since you end up building Tear and Rod of Ages your item path doesn’t offer much value when running Comet and Aery. With Klepto you basically trading a small amount early damage for faster scaling with all that extra gold saved and earned with Anivia’s easy Klepto procs. As long as you are used to the lack of early damage you hit Anivia’s real power points and earlier times in the game. The extra random potions help to sustain in her weaker match-ups. The wards help keep track of enemy junglers and to keep you and your team from going 0-10 before Baron is even on the map! Yes, vision is that important.

Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=64 Unsealed Spellbook
So we will be running unsealed spell book vs the people you cant auto attack as much such as long range mages like ziggs/xerath/syndra or mid range champions that want to auto attack you like ori(passive), viktor (q), and ranged AD mids corki.

Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=64   Minion Dematerializer

So lately i started running this because it makes level 6+ clearing waves a breeze and pre 6 I never get shoved in. I use it 2x on melee minion 1x on ranged minion and 3x on Cannon minion. Helps a lot to cs early game as well and since i started running this it made laning so much easier.

Magical%20Footwear.png?width=64  Magical Footwear

Free 300 gold you can now put towards getting Anivia to her power spikes that allow her to carry. +10 movement speed to make our slow birb into a slightly faster slow birb.

Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=64  Cosmic Insight

So this rune pairs well with Unsealed spellbook and our build of going Morello over Tear. The cdr on summoner spells is pretty nice. Since we can play way more aggressive with our flash up.

Demolish.png?width=64  Demolish

So this is one of my favorites that (A high elo Anivia one-trick) ‘Butler Delta’ advised me to try out. Since we are stacking so much more health ( 3027.png   145hp from going Resolve tree.) We can do about 350-700 damage to turrets with a successful demolish proc on a tower. This combined with Zz’rot I can usually take a turret down to half by myself before we hit the mid game.

Conditioning.png?width=64  Conditioning

This is what allows you to survive those pesky Fizz ults, Zed all-ins and Syndra skillfully pressing R. Synergises well with Mercury Treads or Ninja Tabi as our boots alongside Zz’rot. Often makes me more tanky than most of the tanks around mid game.

aniviapassive.png  Rebirth

So since we now are starting level 1 with almost 800 HP. We are Tanknivia. Iceburg of the Skies. So if your jungler doesnt abandon you it is actually VERY hard for the enemy midlaner + jungler to kill your egg in the early - mid game. When its down you have to play pretty passively just farm and ward and wait for jungler always. Dont engage when below 30% health until egg is back up.

flashfrost.png  Flash Frost

Slow moving AoE stun. Press Q to cast it and Q again to pop it early (I actually didnt know this when i first started playing for about 10 levels of leveling.) This is a very nice skill. The aoe is deceptively big and a lot of the lower elo people try to out run it rather than running sideways. Proper combo for it is Q and then wall them into your stun. Its harder to pull off than the W + Q combo but it gives the enemy laner less time to respond and can often stop a dash with it.

crystallize.png  Crystallize

So first off Why 2 points in W before maxing Q? I just value a wall that easily blocks off all jungle paths over what the extra point in q gives. So THIS is anivia. This is the difference between a good anivia and a great anivia. Her wall is an instant terrain creator, it can stop dashes/jumps/dodges/dips/dives/hooks even a magical journey! (if timed properly). Late game you want to use this skill to always wall off the immobile champions on the enemy team. Trading a 17 second cooldown for a 5 minute flash is always worth it as long as you and your team doesnt waste flashes to get them also. Just set up for another siege right after and that immobile champ now has to play super far back or risk being stuck on the wrong side of the wall. If wall is used properly you'll see the enemy team complaining about it. If you dont see that you're doing something wrong.

frostbite.png  Frostbite

The damage. Needs to be combo'd on a Flash Frost stun. Or a fully formed Glacial storm to do 2x damage. Even though we arent building damage anivia for first half of the game its base damage is still strong enough to make enemy squishys scared. Since we are running Kleptomancy the e + auto attack harass is pretty useful vs melee's in the level 1-5 part of the game.

glacialstorm.png  Glacial Storm

Many people are still complaining about the 'nerf' that happened back in the mage update but if people just take a minute to play the game instead of complaining about it they would see that this ult is way stronger than before. Sure, no more instant E + R combo but now you have a crazy slow and a way more efficient way to full clear a wave. Once you get this at level 6 you should be using ONLY this to clear a wave. It costs 150 mana to full clear a wave and just use your autos to last hit still rather then spending the extra mana on Q or E.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Pretty standard for most midlaners.

Core Items

So this is the completed item path. Just boots after Rod of Ages
Always have a control ward up in micro/pixel bushes and trinkets on ramps (covers most ganking paths)

Situational Items

So the boots depend on their team comp not just who you're vs in lane.

3802.png  > 3027.png > 3165.png > 3111.png > 3047.png > 3512.png > 3135.png > 3089.png

231.png

3802.png  Lost Chapter

Since we are going Morello instead of Tear this will be the item we build for our mana sustain before we build our Rod of Ages. You will struggle more with mana for a bit but remember about the level up passive of this item. (Too many times i see people back when they are 1 minion from leveling up for all that sweet sweet mana.)

3027.png  Rod of Ages (RoA)

The 3010.pngbuy early into RoA helps us get the mana that anivia needs. I constantly see low elo junglers not give buffs over to anivia because she builds RoA and tear but the truth is that ideally she needs all of it. She just burns through that much mana. Also, this necessity for the Lostchapter/RoA start is nice for an earlier focused game where you can hopefully do more before your teammates give up. You get 100 AP from a fully stacked RoA (at around 20-25 minutes) which is good. Also, since we went with the Demolish rune and Zz’rot the health from RoA synergises and helps deal more damage to turrets which is always nice.

 3111.png  Merc    or    3047.png  Tabi

So the boots really depend on the enemy team composition not just the laner you're against. Do they have a lot of auto attackers and AD but have a fed Fizz midlane? Still go Tabi and just fear/respect the Fizz. Do they have a lot of hard cc and AP? Mercs are the shoes for you sir! We have them in size 69.

3512.png  ZZ’rot Portal

B-b-but my DAMAGE REEEEEEEEE! So this is the item I’m asked about most frequently and a lot of people tunnel on the lack of damage. Yes, you lose damage (OH NO EVERYONE PANIC!!!!!). So lets consider the pretty mask 3151.png that does some damage and melts tanks or the amazing ‘counter’ against Zed, Fizz or Syndra offered by a push of a button 3157.png  compared to a Zz’rot you lose some damage but you gain so much more. In my opinion it strengthens all of Anivia’s weak points. You get an extra 55 MR/armor (remember this applies to her egg as well and all that health we have from runes/RoA). It also gives 20% extra MS around the Zz’rot or turrets (This helps the slow birb get off very easy walls or dodge skill-shots.) AND the active creates immense pressure when you're sieging. When placing this ‘siege portal’, try to put it down right outside of the turret range and use it as bait so the enemy ranged champs think they can take it out but surprise! Anivia has a wall. Place it correctly and now they have to flash or fight. This easily repeatable siege in soloq is extremely strong. Rarely will the whole enemy team be on the same page when this happens even up higher in Master tier. I frequently see half the team try to save their immobile ADC by using their gap closers or flashes over the wall while the caught out ADC flashes over your wall to safety. Other times the enemy team lets the person caught by a wall to die and gives up a free turret. Whatever happens in this kind of position your are getting into a fight which favors Anivia's team or no Fight at all and you at least get a free turret. Now, since the Zz’rot is placed right on the edge of the last turrets range the little purple minions should still reach the next turret and now you can repeat the siege process. In this position you want to constantly keep track of enemy summoner spells and wall off the immobile or vulnerable targets. Rinse and repeat and you can win the game without ever fighting a meaningful 5v5. Too often people just want more damage for the stats or how nice it feels to blow up a squishy. However, I want to win and getting objectives without even having to fight or always getting into advantageous fights thanks to the added Movement Speed and Wall combo will help you get those wins.

* I will be adding a lot more niche situational variations and also going into some greater detail on the ‘when’ and ‘where’ to place down my beloved Zz’rot portal.

3165.png  Morellonomicon

So we changed from tear to this item to be more focused on the early/mid game. Lately i've been having trouble impacting the game early and constantly just had teammates giving up. So with this build i can actually roam and pull off some pretty nice 1v2's. The extra cooldown is nice but you will notice a lack of mana in extended fights if you get no kills/assists on the enemy team.

3135.png  Void Staff

By now the enemy tanks already have Magic resist or are about to build it. The penetration % from void staff will help a lot more at this point in the game than any other raw AP item will.

3089.png  Rabadon’s Deathcap

While it is a pretty expensive item to start building with only one item slot left it really is all we need at this point in the game. Assuming the game is not over already you can finish this and you are now going to be tanky enough ignore their frontline (within reason) and have enough AP to blow up enemy squishies. YAY for damage! Also remember that while trying to build your Deathcap remember to keep buying that Elixir of Sorcery 2139.png.

VS

Ahri

Medium

This is one of the most fun matchup to play. It is a skill matchup which I love. It basically comes down to if you can dodge her charm or not. So early game, she will mostly shove her lane with her Q to which you reply with your Q. Post 6, just don't get caught by the charm. If you don't trust yourself you can build an early negatron cloak 1057.png but with these runes, you should be able to survive her all-in if you dodge the charm. This whole matchup simply comes up to dodge the charm. Ahri is an assassin if she can't assassinate you, you win. You tend to outscale her so there is no rush to kill her. The pressure is on her.

VS

Akali

Medium

This matchup used to be easy until the change with her twilight shroud akalishadowswipe.png. Now, she can use that to dodge your stun or jump your wall. Which makes this matchup a bit annoying. Pre 6 just E + auto attack harrass her and farm up. Save your stun for when she tries to engage on you. She shouldn't have any kill pressure on you pre 6 if you play it right. Fast forward to level 6, another matchup where you want the early negatron cloak 1057.png. Save you stun for when she dashes on to you and don't be afraid to fight her in your ult. Unless she is ahead or gets her jungler's help, you should win that 1v1. You outscale her, just make sure your team has some sort of grievous wound.

VS

Annie

Easy

With this rune setup and an even playing field, Annie should not be able to ever kill you. Your extra potions from Kleptomancy and your extra health from the runes makes it so she can never burst you down and will go oom before she ever gets the chance. Just remember to play correctly around her stun, don't let her stun you while your stun is in the air or else she wins the trade. It is another matchup that anivia outscale and it's up to the Annie to win lane, Anivia is okay with going even in laning phase.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Hard

So if Aurelion Sol plays this match up right. Its pretty hard to deal with. His level 1-3 he should just be constantly shoving you under your turret so make sure your skills at csing under turret is good. His stun is easier to hit and his wave clear is faster than anivia can handle. You wont be able to follow up on his roams so this is where demolish Demolish.png?width=32 comes into play once again. This rune is what counters the roamers. Use TP12.png if you have a chance to do something when he roams otherwise just go for that turret. Aurelion's do scale pretty well especially if your team is lacking the Hard cc to stop his stars. Best thing about this match up for anivia is your wall range is a little bit longer than his stars when he goes to CS so the moment you see him activate his W aurelionsolw.png you should be looking for a pretty easy W + r +q. Just remember his ult is a displacement that will cancel your ult. Always be weary of this and dont be afraid to dodge towards him make him was the mana and damage making his stars small and big constantly.

VS

Azir

Hard
This match up... Azir's early wave clear for next to no mana. The poke range longer than your E frostbite.png and about the same range as your slow moving Q flashfrost.png but about 10x faster. Another champion you should remember dodging forward is an option. Bait out his q by backing off a bit or to the side and quickly run into him. In the Early game he has no hard CC and if you dodge correctly you can out trade him. Problem with all of that is the Azir should be standing max range always thats how he wins. This is a matchup where Demolish can actually bait you into an Azir "Sharima Shuffle" ( azirw.pngazirewrapper.pngazirqwrapper.pngazirr.png) So always be careful about trying to proc it when he's around. Both champions in this matchup scale pretty well. Azir is generally weak till his 3rd or 4th item in team fights, so try to pressure the most around this time. At late game Azir's engage and ult can be a game changer just as much as Anivia's wall is. Remember to always ward up your flanks when sieging or being sieged as this is what some Azir's really want to do. He also gets pretty hard to engage on once he starts getting his items so dont try to all in him unless your team gets a REALLY good engage on him. Always just try to fight around your wards when vs him and hope your tanks can actually tank him enough.

VS

Brand

Easy

So brand can out range you but this is another fun skill match up. Fire vs Ice, Lighter vs Bird, Red vs Blue. If you get hit by his Ebrande.png or W brandw.png just remember to hide behind minions or dodge left/right. Never try to out run his Qbrandq.png. If he does end up getting his passive on you you can actually use it to your advantage by hitting your own minions with it. Get the lane into the spot you want it since brand is immobile which is what anivia wants. Call over your jungler and get that easy flash or kill on him. At level 6 its as simple as if he stuns you, you lose that trade if not. You all in him and trap him in your ult as much as possible but always make sure there is no ally minions around you or else his Ult will burst you down. Just always remember to never let someone bully you out of lane he is immobile and basically only has flash to get away use your wall almost always when its off cooldown and force his flash once that happens just ping that his flash is down hope your jungler comes for easy ganks and you should scale nicely into the late game.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

USE 1.png vs her if you arent good at dodging her ult yet.

Level 1 is just annoying. If you miss your stun you're getting Twin fanged to death (Rito please). Level 2-5 is all the same just hit your stun e and auto but when ever you miss it. Dont cs dont walk near her just let her enjoy her free lane till your stun is back up. Once level 6 comes into play this is why i call this match up Medium and not Easy because for most its hard to dodge her R cassiopeiar.png but once you get how to dodge it all the time this match up is actually super easy. She is immobile and cant build early tier 2 boots which means  she is pretty slow especially when she is stuck in your ult and cant get past your wall with out blowing her flash.

Tip: So at level 6 the way I find most Cass play is when i stun them then  E frostbite.png and face away from her. While they are stunned a lot of Cass are spamming their ult. So once they are not stunned their ult goes off on an Anivia that just turned around thanks to how long your Q's stun duration is.You then can R glacialstorm.png + W crystallize.png and E when its off cooldown for a trade that anivia wins.

Cass can be a monster in the late game though even if you win early always try to save your stun for her in the late game. Never depend on your team to do it properly. Once again Fight around wards you never want to face check a Cass since its a free ult for her.

VS

Corki

Hard

level 1-5 is your chance to win this match up. Dodge his pretty slow q phosphorusbomb.png and he really only has autos left. You'll out trade him hard as long as you dodge Corki's q. Once level 6 rolls around Corki now has options. Using his package to roam and pick up kills/assists, use it in midlane with a jungler follow up. Both hard for anivia to properly deal with. Also he can now use his R missilebarrage.png to shove out the wave and not really have to deal with anivia 1v1 anymore. However if the corki doesnt roam and tries to 1v1 you you can actually beat him unless he pokes you down first with his ult constantly. He scales up pretty well and does a fair amount of damage. Remember that he does something like 80% Magic Damage so factor that into your boots choice. Mid-late Corki's damage and burst gets pretty insane expect him to win the 1v1's since he is free to go hexdrinker and still dish out enough damage. I put this match up as Hard because generally people build the wrong defenses vs him and his burst is pretty hard to dodge late game. Face check 1 wrong bush and he can and will blow up who ever it is. His anti siege poke with his R can be annoying but still manageable. So just play it out properly. Go for objectives and always be aware when he gets his passive package.

VS

Diana

Medium

Levels 1-5. Easy match up she should never get any meaningful damage on you unless you really mess up your positioning. If you know the pattern on her Q dianaarc.png its overall pretty easy to dodge it. Dont stand in the minion wave make her choose to hit you or the wave. If she hits wave throw a Q + E at her and win the trade. If she chooses to hit you Throw a Q + E at her and win the trade. Easy right?. Since she's melee with no long range hard CC Anivia wins this early laning phase pretty easy. Dont let her CS for free always throw out autos and Q + E harass.

Level 6+ She is scary now. If you didnt get some kind of lead in levels 1-5 she will be able to 1v1 you. With her E dianavortex.png able to stop your ult channel her Wdianaorbs.png to soak up most damage from your Q flashfrost.png+ E frostbite.png and her ability to stick on you even if you flash away and wall. You have to play pretty safe. Pick up an early Negatron cloak 1057.png vs her and you might be able to pull out the solo kill on her at level 6.

Her late game can be scary to vs. know that you want her to target you still. You're tanky enough to soak up over a round of her skills when most likely your ADC can't. So try to look as appealing as a Turkey on thanksgiving bait her in and punish her for wasting her cooldowns on you. Sieging vs her is a good spot to be. Try to stay out of the jungle or any place you're not warded well enough. She has the burst damage at this point to wreck any squishys and the damage to tear down turrets. So best just stay in lanes and force her to have a bad engage while you are sieging.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Levels 1-5 Ekko should just be trying to shove you in. He can clear a wave with 2 Q's ekkoq.png which costs next to no mana. This forces you to shove back just as fast or farm under turret. If you're not comfortable with farming under turret put an extra point into Qflashfrost.png so you can shove back a little better. It can be a pretty volatile lane. Majority of Ekko's will keep trying to Eekkoe.png onto you. So ward up and call for jungler ganks. Like vs any melee Anivia is somewhat okay vs them in a 1v1 and if you dont let him get his passive off he cant really escape a properly timed jungle gank. If he ever disappears from your vision expect a W ekkow.png from him shortly after so try not to stand in the same spot you normally do. Remember to abuse your Kleptomancy against him since he is melee! E + Auto attack harass and then Q and run away when he goes in on you.

Level 6 is same for anyone else vs Ekko. Always be aware of where his ult is at. Dont chase him when you are both low. Dont waste your stun till he is in your face. Dont be afraid to let him engage on you first. As long as you dont get stunned by his W ekkow.png you still win these trades. Just be aware of where his ult is at.

Late game Ekko isnt anything to special against an Anivia. You outscale him even though he has the power to delete a squishy on your team and can make a play from the fog of war. So ward up and make sure to wall off the rest of the enemy team when ever he engages since his engage is a pretty scripted combo.

VS

Fizz

Hard

RUN 3.png

Level 1-5 is where you can make a difference in this match up. Abuse the E + Auto attack combo on him and use your Q to cancel his Q fizzq.png or after he E'sfizze.png. Try to shove the minions under his turret in these levels but remember to ward up properly. Harass him under his turret since he is melee range again with only E + auto attacks. Your q is only thing that will save you really at these levels. Wall is used only after he uses both his Q and E otherwise its usually a waste.

Level 6+ Scary Fish is Scary. If he ever lands his ult on you. Exhaust him or you will not survive it. Another champion you can build an early Negatron Cloak1057.png vs to help with his burst. Also remember to flash 4.png his E fizze.png since this is what they max first. Its a lot of their damage. If you successfully do that you now actually have a chance to beat him. But dont chase him if he gets away just chalk that up as a win.

Late game. You outscale him hard. But that doesnt make this match up easy at all. The early to mid game is all about Fizz. But once you get your items under your belt you can survive him pretty well. Hope he goes for you over your ADC since you have egg and Seraph's shield 3040.png that means he wasted his cool downs and you and your team can then hopefully turn it around. Sieging is where you beat him. Fizz has no good wave clear unless he puts himself in danger. Set up your zzrot outside of turret range and wall him away so if he does want to engage he has to E fizze.png over your wall. So dont give up if you do bad vs Fizz in the early/mid play for that late game.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Level 1-5 Your auto attacks out range his turrets. Remember to keep killing them but dont get hit by his E heimerdingere.png or they will hurt a lot. Focus your Q to harass him always while constantly auto attacking his turrets and the enemy minions to keep your wave at a spot you want it. Remember he is immobile with a hard to hit stun. Punish this walk up to him and throw out your Q + W's on him as often as possible to make him blow his Flash.

Level 6+ Your ult now kills all his turrets he cant 1v1 you properly at all because you're just to tanky for him to burst. Heimers only real chance to stay in the game is jungle pressure or cheesing dragons/rift/baron with his turrets. So be cautious of this since he does take them down REALLY fast.

Late game Heimer bush tactics are killer. Switch up to a blue trinket and play around lanes or wards only. Never face check vs him expect him to be in every bush if he isnt on the map. Your seige is strong vs him as long as you and your team doesnt get engaged on by his Ult'd Eheimerdingere.png

VS

Karma

Medium

Levels 1-5 Just farm up. She's hard to hit with her Ekarmasolkimshield.png movement speed bonus but if thats down she's pretty vulnerable to a gank since she has no dash and her W karmaspiritbind.png takes a while to snare someone a proper gank leads to an easy kill on her. Her objective should be to shove you under turret and poke you while you farm so always try to shove wave back properly

Level 6 Unless you totally miss everything on her, you win this match up. Your full combo starting with Ult first should mean she cant properly get her Wkarmaspiritbind.png off on you for the full duration.

Late game Karma can be a problem. Her Q karmaq.png does a lot of damage but if the Enemy has a hyper carry ADC she buffs them A LOT. Going into late game with a Karma isnt something you should want but that doesnt mean its all bad. She is still an immobile mage so your wall is super strong vs her.

VS

Karthus

Easy

Hardest part of this match up is hoping your teammates dont die to his R.

Lane phase vs Karthus is pretty easy. Just dodge his Q's karthuslaywastea1.png They are pretty easy to dodge and you can stun him pretty easily. He's immobile with no hard CC the perfect match up for Anivia just dont let him hard shove you into turret early. Keep up the constant harass and poking vs him and you should win easy.

Level 6+ You can all in him always you should win. Unless you literally get hit by every single Q of his you just win the match up is easy. Force his flash always or kill him.

Late game vs him can be troublesome so really really make sure you pressure him in the early-mid game. Anivia wins this match up so hard. So remember to look for walls on him while sieging or being sieged. Spam ping your teammates during the game to back and ping Karthus alive when your teammates are low. Remember you can cancel his ult by displacing him with your W crystallize.png so if he is ulting to kill a team member try to find him during his channel . All in all this match up is very nice for anivia.

VS

Kassadin

Hard

This matchup, if the Kassadin plays right, is easily the hardest matchup for Anivia. His Q counters your R and his R dodges your Q. After that happens, it means you have no empowered E and no matter how well you cs or put pressure on him, he can still 1v1 you post 6. You basically need your jungler to gank him and this is something you can't rely on in soloq. My best advice is to use your ban on him.

VS

Katarina

Medium

Levels 1-5 Kat wins this. Her low cool down on her Ekatarinaewrapper.png after walking on a Wkatarinaw.png. Makes it pretty hard to deal with her and if you mis-position even a little bit she can egg you pretty easily and kill your egg with her pretty lowish cooldowns. Just always remember to throw out autos and q's at level 1. Its the safest time pre 6. Once 2 hits you are forced to be reactive and stun her moment she ever shunpos anywhere close to you. Dont let her start harassing you for free.

Level 6 is when you actually have a chance the ult means you can get the double damage E more often and now you have wall or Q to stop her ult. As long as you fight in your ult she cant kill you. Remember that running at her is an option since her Qkatarinaq.png drops a dagger behind you. Just try to poke her as much as possible with R + E and this lane gets easy.

Late game Kat can be scary if everyone forgets or misses their hard cc on her. If you're the only one who has hard CC on your team it is solely on you to shut her down. If you miss she'll most likely win a fight basically by herself. So in Champ select if enemy team picks Kat early start telling your team to pick people with some hard cc to vs her.

VS

Kayle

Easy

She is medium to short range with no hard cc. This is the ideal matchup for Anivia. So actually one of the few matchups you can easily win pre 6 so abuse it. Her level 6 is bad against Anivia's ult since you can simply walk away while it's up and then Q + E while it's down. If you see you are versus a Kayle, lock in the bird.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

Another hard match up for our poor bird.

Levels 1-5  she has decent wave clear, mobility and doesnt use THAT much mana. You most likely wont win every trade with her but you still gotta trade with her. You scale into the late game so dont just give up the lane. These runes make you tanky enough to take a lot of her poke just remember to poke her back and hope you get some lucky potions from Kleptomancy. Don't just throw your q out though she will punish you hard for that. Have to Q her the moment she W's leblancw.png to you. She is stuck in an animation towards you so its a free Q if you can react that fast finish with an E and auto and you are coming out of these trades pretty okay. (Easier said than done though for sure)

Level 6 it only gets a bit harder. Get that early Negatron cloak 1057.png and she becomes manageable again. As long as you didnt lose level 1-5 to badly and CS'd decently under the pressure. You will scale just fine into the late game. Look for TP plays to catch back up to her if you're behind. Dont waste your TP getting back to lane.

Late game you out scale be a target once again for any of these Bursty midlaners. BE THE TARGET, soak up that damage so your ADC can actually survive vs them. Peel for them and target the leblanc. You'll do more at this stage in the game then she will if played right.

VS

Lissandra

Easy
Levels 1-5 are pretty easy for Anivia. She out ranges, out damages and doesn't require the use of minions for her longer range. Use this to your advantage, stand away from your minions so you force her to choose to either hit only you and you poke her back and win the trade or only hit your minions and you poke her back and win the trade harder. Remember to constantly auto attack your minions so you dont get shoved under turret as most lissandras i face choose to hit minions over me. Make sure you're properly warded because even with out her ultimate Lissandra is really easy to gank for.

Level 6+ If she E'slissandrae.png towards you expect the enemy jungler around. At this point in the game the enemy jungler should be ganking for her moment. Level 6 is when an enemy gank is going to happen  as its really easy to follow up on. Play safer make sure your control ward and a trinket is out. If she tries to fight you with out her jungler around the trade should still be in Anivias favor for sure. At no point does Lissandra really out scale Anivia. She's forced to engage only on your ADC because with these runes and build you're way to tanky for her. So just try to peel and throw a Q the moment she starts her Elissandrae.png it'll either stun her moment she activates it or make her think twice about actually engaging. If she doesnt take her E in she's pretty short range and useless till its back up so abuse that as she is immobile for a fair while after she wastes it.

VS

Lux

Medium

Normally I would put an immobile no Hard cc champion as easy but her range and if she plays it right makes this match up more annoying than anything.

Level 1-5 Since she is immobile try to pressure her our at level 4+ once you get wall this match up gets a lot more manageable. Punish her everytime she wants to auto attack a minion or you if she has her passive on you. A lot of lux after hitting a bind on you will walk up to auto attack you so as long as you still have your Q + E up the trade will be even. To prevent losing lane to hard stand behind minions and bait out her E luxlightstrikekugel.png it'll shove the wave into the spot you want it then just call over the jungler and waste her flash. Repeat and start getting the kills.

Level 6+ Both champs scale pretty well. Lux has the ability to delete two Squishys if you face check a bush so switch your trinket to a 3363.png @ level 9 and play around your vision. Keep track of her summoner Flash cooldown and abuse her immobility in team fights.

VS

Malzahar

Easy

Levels 1-5. He cant shove vs you. His passive is easily taken away by your long range autos or Wcrystallize.png if you cast it directly on him. He is very immobile and with recent changes to his kit his voidlings are pretty easy to take out with either 1 Qflashfrost.png or just 3 auto attacks. (Remember to focus them down pretty fast as their damage can get pretty insane if left unchecked). You can take his Emalzahare.png at the early levels (1-3) as well so it stops him from shoving you in. We have all this extra health for a reason might as well use it.

Level 6+ His ult is annoying to vs. Get that early Negatron Cloak 1057.png, Merc treads 3111.png if the enemy team comp allows it. You farm up decently well pre 6 those 2 items along with your Rod of Ages stacking. He wont be able to kill you. I think Anivia is 1 of the best counters to Malzahar because she just gets to tanky to do anything. You dodge his silence and go all in on him always but make sure enemy jungler isnt around you'll win that 1v1 everytime.

Late game remember you have both your q and w to stop him from ulting a teammate use it fast. If Malz cant lock down someone his kit is pretty useless. Keep track of his flash and punish him for being immobile vs our birb.

VS

Orianna

Hard

Levels 1-5. Orianna just wins. her lower cooldowns, the more damage, her empowered autos, and the shield to stop a lot of your burst. Only way you come out of this ahead is with jungler pressure. If he never ganks just get what farm she lets you get and Q her E and run if she ever gets to close to you. Remember since you are running Klepto, dont just let her get free trades on you or bully you. Always fight back with the quick Q + E + Auto attack and walk away. Any extra gold you get that will get you into the mid game will help so much.

Level 6+ Please dont do what i see most anivias do against Oriannas. Which is throw down your ult AND your q at same time. Thats just asking to be Orianna ult'd. If she messes up both your Q and your R you will lose that trade. Try to space them out. R + W + E, then dance around trying to dodge her ult. Either way if you get hit or dodge it now you can Q + E and out trade her for sure. Just please remember not to use both i cant stress this enough. I get asked about this match up so much and if Ori just straight up wins and im pretty sure thats the reason why. Because you do have a chance now if you farm up enough under pressure and keep it even. At the level 6+ point you can actually 1v1 her. This match up is still under Hard because both champs scale up really well. The lower elo people dont keep track of her really low ult cooldown or her ball placement and 1 good ult can win a teamfight. That along with a lot of the cheese she can do with like j4 + ori ult, eve + ori ult. Any of those strong engagers + Ori is a scary combo to go up against.

Late game once again she is immobile always be looking to punish her with a wall force her to panic ult and hopefully only hit you (Since you're tanky you can take a beating and still keep on fighting). Just hope your teammates follow up properly after a nicely placed wall and the fight should be won.

All in all, as hard as this match up is. I really really like to play it. Its a fun challenging match up that can show just how up to par your Anivia really is.

VS

Ryze

Easy

I will say first off this match up is easy if you know how Ryze's skills work (Look up a guide or quick youtube video of how Ryze should be played to understand how his kit works)

Levels 1-5 he will shove in your wave if you let him. By that i mean you gotta not hang around your minions when low or else he can damage you pretty good while also shoving the wave in. Ryze is medium range, immobile and no hard CC Anivia loves this. Just remember how Ryze's skills works and work around that. Hang by your minions when they are all full life and away from them when they are lower. Always punish him when he tries to shove the wave

Level 6+ On even ground anivia will be tanky enough to deal with Ryze's insane damage output. Still try to dodge his Qryzeqwrapper.png as much as possible of course and keep him harassing him with your R + E + W combo only Qing when he snares you or tries running away.

VS

Swain

Easy

Short-Mid ranged champion No hard CC and is scaling like me? Yes please.

Level 1-5 can basically go 2 ways. Farm fest and wait for jungle pressure or All out fighting resulting in spam pinging our junglers to come gank the half life no mana opponent. So ward up and call that jungler for help!

Level 6+ if the swain is dumb and fights you with none of your minions around you just win. If he fights you under your minions he wins. So always try to steer the fight away from minions and make sure no enemy junglers are around. If you play the fight right you should never/next to never get hit by his ult all your skills and autos out range it. He will try to slowly walk towards you and get nothing really done. Its why i have this match up on EASY its just a nice stomp for anivia as long as you dont waste to much mana on farming minions.

late game both scale decently well just dont get  baited by his zhonya stun him early in a fight or after his zhonyas. Most swain look to zhonyas at mid-low life so if you can layer some stuns from start to finish you can kill him before he even gets the chance o zhonya. Just remember to walk away from him while he is zhonyas'd So he doesnt get the extra healing done in lane and get the kill. Dont change the build Morello isnt worth it. just beg a tank or ADC to get the grevious wounds items.

VS

Syndra

Hard

Levels 1-5 she out ranges you, out damages you, her stuns faster, her mana costs are lower. Just survive best you can, punish her mistakes, ward up, and call for jungler back up. Sadly its all we can do. She is immobile but her stun is just faster than yours even if your Q will end up hitting her a good-great syndra should Qsyndraq.pngEsyndrae.png you while it travels so she actually doesnt get stunned and out trades you hard. So save wall for when your jungler is around. She can only hopefully stun one of you and the other gets to blow her flash. Repeat and profit.

Levels 6+ Grab that early Negatron Cloak 1057.png and Merc treads if the enemy team comp calls for it. You should be able to stop her burst enough to actually be able to punish her back. If her stun is EVER down you have some good chances to make trades in your favor so take those seconds when you can.

late game you out scale Syndra her R can only burst your ADC at this point hopefully which is a lot of pressure off of you and since she is immobile your Wall can just win vs her while sieging. Again, please fight around wards against burst champions. the level 9 3363.png farsight trinket can help keep you safer with out face checking bushes heading to objectives. Dont hug your ADC make her choose either you or your ADC dont let her stun both. Late game is Anivias time to shine but Syndra has the power to roll over a game easy. So dont let her. play it safe and slow.

VS

Taliyah

Hard

Level 1-5 She should just be shoving in the minion wave. Nothing you can really do about it. Farm as best as you can under turret and try to clear wave pretty fast so she doesnt get any free roams off in these levels. Anivia is to slow to properly dodge her Wtaliyahwvc.png and her early game kill pressure is a thing.

Levels 6+ As long as you can dodge her Wtaliyahwvc.png you win this match up pretty hard. She is immobile and her ultimate isnt for 1v1's. Level's 6-10 are where you want to try to constantly pressure her and keep her from roaming. Ping like a mad man though when she backs to base as this is when she will want to try to roam to other lanes with her ult. Even though you have an ultimate advantage on her. If she plays it right she will kite you constantly with her Qtaliyahq.png but she cant handle your R + W combo so abuse this.

Late game. Both scale very well. Taliyah is great at kiting and turning a team fight with her wall. Use Blue trinket3363.png here to cover flanks so you never get trapped by her Rtaliyahr.png. Try to keep tabs on her as much as possible.

VS

Talon

Medium

I would put this match up as Easy but if the Talon plays this match up right it can become a problem.

Levels 1-5 Just dont let him get his passive off on you. Poke with E's and Auto attacks and get those Klepto procs off use your Q flashfrost.pngwhen ever he Q'stalonq.png onto you and walk away. You should out trade him always in these levels unless you horribly misplay or misposition.
If he tries to roam don't follow at these levels. He can beat you if you arent around your turret. Mass ping which ever lane he is roaming to and shove minions under his turret and get that Demolish Demolish.png?width=32 proc and back and buy.

Levels 6+ At this point you can still win your 1v1's if you play it right. Remember to always keep your Q for his Q its a for sure hit and he wont be able to get his passive on you. wall vs him is pretty useless unless you Q flashfrost.png first and Wcrystallize.png him into your Q. Can also combo this with your R as most Talons dont react fast enough for it and get stunned. If he does roam you need to follow it up with TP's. Look to make plays as well dont just react to his roams. Remember to get your Demolish procs off on the turrets if your TP isnt up. Dont walk aimlessly back and forth in river dont waste time when he roams. Just shove and start trying to group as early as possible with your bot lane. Talon isnt good vs grouping people so try to rally your team to group up early.

Late game you outscale pretty well this is another guy you want blue trinkets 3363.png against. He should never be in lane he'll always be lurking in the jungle. Waiting to pick someone off so keep your team together and help buy wards and try to stay in lane as much as possible. If the talon is dumb enough to stay in lane his only wave clear puts him well in range of a Q + W combo. So abuse that. Remember with these runes and build you can play more forward than the usual Anivia.

VS

Teemo

Easy

Levels 1-18 You just win. Unless you're both low and he flashes your Q. You just always win. He's medium range, no hard CC and immobile. You should be challenging him when ever your Q is up. Dont let him get comfortable. Just remember if your Q is down he will win a trade so back off a bit and just CS till its back up. At level 6 you basically just win. His shrooms you should never hit. Get a Red trinket 3364.png vs him at level 9 and he just wont scale well. As in vs most immobile match ups Start your combo with R + E. Then W + Q to keep him in your Ult and you'll win every trade with out really getting hit.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium

Run 1.png vs him. Also another match up I would put as EASY but since he has good global pressure I bumped it up to a Medium because no matter how well you play if the TF plays it properly He'll get fed with out ever having to deal with you.

Levels 1-5 You have a chance to use Cleanse when getting ganked and you get Gold carded its pretty nice vs him. He is pretty short ranged unless he farms with only Qwildcards.png. If he does this you should be out farming him. Everytime he does a Wpickacard.png and locks in a blue card try to punish him with a Q +E. Its pretty easy to hit a Q on him when ever he locks a blue card in because its either going on you or the next lowest health minion. If you let TF shove you in its okay. You get to stay in a safer spot in lane and just farm under turret, just don't try to let this happen.

Levels 6+ You win the 1v1's. A perfectly timed Cleanse can actually get rid of his stun WHILE keeping your ult up. It is basically frame perfect so very hard to do but worth it to learn. If you can't do the frame perfect cleanse thats okay this match up is still easy. Just use Either your R  glacialstorm.png or Q flashfrost.png to engage not both unless he wasted or used his Pick A Card pickacard.png already. After you cleanse the stun you follow up with what ever other skills you have and TF doesn't win the trade ever. When ever you see TF use his Rdestiny.png (Icon pops up over your head) you better instantly start shoving for turret. You wont be able to follow up. A good trick to deal with TF is put a lane ward down on his half so you can ping the lane in which TF backs up and runs towards. Those extra seconds of Pings before TF gets to port in can save your laners life.

Late game, both scale well. If your team doesnt have a proper way to deal with his split pushing at this point of the game. You have to constantly shove side lanes and forced fights. Force him to port in rather than getting free turrets. Try your best to keep track when his ult is up or down and the games should still go in your favor.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Another champion you can run Cleanse 1.png against. (But i don't really do it.)

Levels 1-5 is pretty easy as long as you dont panic and walk into the walls of Veigar's Eveigareventhorizon.png. Punish him when ever he's going to farm with his Q and this lane is easy at this stage of the game.

Levels 6+ You're pretty much to tanky for Veigar to deal with. As long as you dodge his Q or W. He cant 1v1 you if you all in him. He's immobile with a hard to land stun so use this to your advantage. Throw out constant R + W + E's at him and Q him if when he tries to run or tries to engage.

Early Game Back to Top

Most of Anivia's early game is to try to get used to last hitting with her auto attack and manage your minion wave so it freezes on your half of the river. Also managing your mana is really important. Do not overuse your skill to farm. Always try to poke with your Q, E and auto attack (for Kleptomancy) against melee and some range. Try to keep track where the enemy jungler might gank from and ward accordingly. Mainly focus on csing and staying alive over the 1v1 kills since we are lacking the early damage. Don't forget to keep poking as much as you can, do not let the enemy have a free lane or bully you. On your first back, you should try to afford a Lost chapter 3802.png and a control ward 2055.png (975 gold). Always try to put your first control ward on bot side river bush (pixel bush) to get as much vision on dragon as possible. Don't be afraid to TP back to lane from level 1 to 5 if you get low.

If you are running Unsealed spellbook dont be afraid of backing a little early and just tping back. Its what its there for.

Mid Game Back to Top

You can start farming with your R, do not use your Q or E. The mana cost is lower if you are just a bit more patient for your R to clear wave. Start looking to shove the waves under their turret and start using your demolish rune. At this point you want to follow up on your midlaner's roam or catch a kill in the top or bot lane. Stay aware of what is going on on the map for a neat TP play. If your TP is down and your midlaner is wanting to roam, focus on sieging their turret because if Anivia tries to follow a roam, she tends to lose most 1v1 in the river and it is a long run for our slow birb. Start asking jungler for second blue since you are mana intensive. If you do take out their turret at this point, look for taking dragon, rift herald or other turrets. Anivia is a team fighter, she wants to group.

Late Game Back to Top

This is were Anivia shines since death timer are so long, a single well-placed wall can win the game. The key to achieving that victory, is constant pressure for objectives. This is were the zz'rot comes into play. All you need to do is siege, place it down right out of the turret range and wall off who ever is greedy enough to walk up to hit that zz'rot. If they have flash or dash, wait for your wall cooldown to come back up and repeat. If the enemy has a good anti-siege (long distance or good wave clear) you can bring them out of their base by going to baron or dragon. Anivia is really strong at taking these objectives with her empowered E and her wall to block the enemy from stealing it.
