14.png Ignite

Use this spell if you want lane dominance. The majority of the time you are probably going to want this.

4.png Flash 

Mandatory. When I say mandatory I mean mandatory. Annie 1_64.png is predictable. This gives her a gigantic advantage by allowing her to surprise her enemies with a flash 4.png combo (extremely important in team-fights for eliminating the back-line. More on that later).

12.png Teleport

When you hear the words "Duo bot pls" or when someone on your team is last to pick and it's his turn, and he suddenly out of the blue says "oh no I don't know how to ADC" and picks something like Sivir 15_64.png. In general though, ignite14.png is more useful to maintain pressure in your lane and you can always rush mobility boots 3117_32.png to replace the mobility potential of Teleport 12.png. Make sure you know ahead of time your lane opponent will be easy (because you lose lane pressure by not taking ignite14.png).

Masteries Back to Top

My preferred annie mid mastery page. Thunderlord's decree is superior to the Deathfire touch mastery in the Ferocity tree because it gives a higher base damage and overall damage during short bursts of damage, which is what annie does. Deathfire touch is better for champions that tend to do more DPS over a teamfight (Karthus, anivia, etc.)

The extra 5% cdr mastery is great to  have as well, which allows you to get up to 45% cdr if you go cdr/lvl blues and replace one of the quints with a 5% scaling quint (other 2 quints can be AP or movement). That way, if you build morellonomicon you will scale to have 45% cdr at level 18, which is super strong.
You can also opt to take 0-18-12 mastery page if you so wish, to get the lower cooldown on your summoner spells (flash/ignite). (I would go recovery > Explorer > Veteran's Scars > Insight). This is good to take if your lane opponent is easy/waveclearing with low kill pressure (lulu, anivia).

his is IN GENERAL. In some cases you will want to take 1 point in Molten Shield - (E) earlier if your lane opponent is causing you trouble or harasses you a lot (FK YOU ZED 238_64.png), namely around levels 4-5. 

Start Q to trade with your opponent in lane. Since Annie's changes her stun duration isn't as important in the early game, unless your team plans to invade (in which case, you can choose to start W and charge your stun in the fountain to help). Otherwise, Q is definitely better to start for last hitting and overall trading in lane, especially since the Q's cooldown is cut in half upon killing a unit.


Maxing Q provides you with more DPS in lane. Since the cooldown on it is half of W's, it will enable you to trade with your lane opponent more often and more effectively. 

Maxing W enables you to waveclear. Sometimes maxing W can be efficient if you won't be able to trade with your lane opponent often (someone that forces a farm lane, like Karthus), or if you're going for a more roaming strategy for that particular game.

Starting Items

    WHEN YOU KNOW YOU CAN HARASS YOUR LANER WITHOUT MUCH PUNISHMENT EARLY. SOME EXAMPLES INCLUDE NIDALEE, YASUO, MORGANA.
    FIRST BACK WITH ABOUT ~ 1200 GOLD. IF YOU STARTED DORANS RING, ONLY BUY 1 AND GET AN AMPLIFYING TOME INSTEAD. IF YOU DON'T HAVE FLASK, GET SOME HPOTS WITH THIS.
    AGAINST HARDER MATCHUPS THAT TEND TO OUTRANGE, POKE YOU DOWN, OR OUTTRADE YOU. NOTABLY: KASSADIN LEBLANC XERATH

Core Items

    RYLAIS' IS EXTREMELY POWERFUL ON ANNIE. I TEND TO RUSH THIS ITEM IF I CAN GET AWAY WITH IT. HOWEVER, SINCE THE NEW PATCH, ABYSSAL SCEPTER'S COST WAS REDUCED. THE ITEM BEFORE WAS ALREADY POWERFUL, AND NOW WITH THE COST INCREASES OF OTHER AP ITEMS, HAS MADE THIS ITEM AN ATTRACTIVE FIRST BUY TOO. I WOULD SAY IF YOU'RE AGAINST ANOTHER AP MAGE MID LANE, RUSH ABYSSAL FIRST INTO RYLAI, THEN DEATHCAP > VOID > ZHONYA (OR SOME COMBINATION OF ORDER FOR THE LAST 3 ITEMS).
    SIMPLE. IF YOU'RE NOT AGAINST AN AP MID, AND THE OTHER TEAM IS REALLY LACKING MAGIC DAMAGE, YOU WON'T REALLY NEED ABYSSAL. GO FOR MORELLONOMICON INSTEAD FOR INCREASED COOLDOWN REDUCTION.
    NOTES: THIS ITEM WAS BUFFED IN PATCH 5.22 BECAUSE ITS COST WAS REDUCED WHILE OTHER AP ITEMS COST WENT UP. THIS MAKES THIS ITEM A VERY ATTRACTIVE FIRST BUY IF YOU'RE AGAINST ANYONE THAT'S AP. KEEP THIS IN MIND.
    INCREDIBLY STRONG ITEM FOR ANNIE, AS ITS SLOW CAN BE USED WITH TIBBERS TO KEEP AN ENEMY PERMANENTLY WITHIN ANNIE'S RANGE AND FORCE THEM TO EITHER FIGHT HER, OR BURN A SUMMONER COOLDOWN LIKE FLASH TO ESCAPE. HONESTLY ONE OF THE STRONGEST ITEMS FOR ANNIE
    IF THE ENEMY HAS 3+ TANKS, OR POSSIBLY 2 TANKS BUT THEY'RE BOTH REALLY STRONG, YOU WILL WANT TO ITEMIZE THIS SOONER, RATHER THAN LATER, TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THEM DOWN QUICKER. (SAY, THIRD OR POSSIBLY 2ND ITEM IF YOU'RE REALLY BEHIND)
