Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash is always essential on Aurelion Sol, allowing you to reposition for kills, escape sticky situations or dodge skill shots~

6.png Ghost is my go-to on Aurelion Sol because your damage mostly comes from Celestial Expansion aurelionsolW.png, so in order to continuously deal damage you need to keep opponents with in reach of your spinning death orbs and ghost will allow you to catch up to enemies running away or effectively kite (especially with the recent ghost buffs) :)

3.png Exhaust is a very strong spell to take against an assassin such as Zed 238.png, Leblanc 7.png or Fizz 105.png.

Masteries Back to Top

There are two excellent mastery pages for Aurelion Sol, the latter having Thunderlord's Decree as the keystone. I take Deathfire Touch because it adds even more constant damage to your already ridiculous sustain damage.

:::Ferocity tree:::
Sorcery - Increases aurelionsolW.png Celestial Expansion (w) damage (and the other abilities of course but this is your main damage)

Feast - good lane sustain
Vampirism - Gives you a bit of survivability, especially in addition to the new Rod of Ages 3027.png passive :)

Bounty Hunter - Aurelion roams the map a lot so you'll probably kill them all at least once ;)

Piercing thoughts: You want magic pen to increase the effectiveness of your ability power.

Deathfire touch (Keystone) - Refer to the top of the section

:::Cunning tree:::

Wander - Improves your roaming

Secret Stash - Helps you out in lane, everyone loves a good biscuit!

Merciless - Helps you finish off your foes :-)

Dangerous game - This mastery is so broken. It essentially nullifies ignite if you kill them before you die. This allows you to stay in the fight a little longer if the enemy team starts to drop and can end up making or breaking a teamfight!

aurelionsolpassive.png Aurelion Sol's passive, "Center of the Universe," is the most important part of his kit. Your passive causes 3 stars to orbit around you, dealing magic damage to whatever the come in contact with. These apply spell effects like Liandry's 3151.png or Rylai's 3116.png. If you are affected by a hard crowd control effect the stars will disappear for the duration of the cc so be careful!

aurelionsolQ.png Aurelion Sol's (Q "Starsurge" is a ranged stun, you fire it in a direction and it explodes when passing outside of your "Outer limit" (the range of "Celestial Expansion" aurelionsolW.png (W) ) or when you reactivate it. The ability has more to it though, it also give Aurelion Sol movement speed as he travels with it, and as he and the projectile travel together the ability grows in size allowing you to affect a much larger target area. Use Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png with "Comet of Legend" (E) aurelionsolE.png to maximize the potential of this ability. You'll want to max this second as it's your only low cooldown crowd control ability.

aurelionsolW.png Aurelion Sol's (W) is "Celestial Expansion" is your main source of damage. This is a toggle ability that causes your passive to grow in radius to your Outer limit, increasing the orb's rotation speed and damage. This costs mana to cast and drains mana during use. If you are affected by hard cc this ability will go on cooldown, when the cc wears off the orbs will be rotating at the normal passive range until Celestial Expansion aurelionsolW.png is reactivated. This is the ability I max first because it is your main source of damage

aurelionsolE.png Aurelion Sol's (E) is "Comet of Legend." This ability passively increases movement speed while traveling in a straight line. It's active allows you to fly across the map at roughly the same speed as Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png flying over walls and units, but you will be grounded upon taking damage from a champion. I max this last, and once it gets to level 5 you will be able to make some BIG stars :)

aurelionsolR.png Aurelion Sol's ultimate ability is "Voice of Light." This ability deals magic damage and slows all targets affected in a straight line. This ability also knocks all nearby enemies hit to your Outer Limit. This ability is great for self peel of course, but can be used to slow down escaping enemies or even pick up a runaway kill as this ability has a pretty long range :)

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

I always start with this, Doran's ring just gives you so much early game; especially the mana per kill passive.

Core Items

The Swiftness boots are perfect for Aurelion Sol because he has to constantly reposition to deal damage with Celestial Expansion. Rylai's is THE BEST item on Aurelion because if slows them down allowing you to easily keep them within the damage of your Celestial Expansion. Rod of Ages is also very good for Aurelion because it offers him mana, health, ability power, and a passive that gives him hp when he has his (W) running. That pretty neat! ;)
If you are getting cc'd a lot then Mercury Treads are a good substitute for Boots of Swiftness boots. Otherwise your core build stays the same.

Situational Items

If you are against a heavy ad team or an ad assassin, rush zhonya's after your core items are complete. Liandry's is very good on combination with Rylai's and Deathfire touch so it's usually a good buy Luden's Echo gives you move speed and damage as well as a great extra bit of damage from the passive so it's very good as well. Morellonomicon is a really good item, I usually build it if our team needs to cut down the healing of someone on their team. Abyssal is a very good defensive item against a heavy magic damage team or in a tough lane match up. Rabadon's is only gotten as a last item to boost your maximum potential late game :)

VS

Ahri

Medium

Laning against Ahri can be difficult because she can get inside the range of your Celestial Expansion aurelionsolW.png with her Spirit Rush ahritumble.png, but if you can dodge Charm ahriseduce.png and lock her down with Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png you can win trades. If she is getting ahead feel free to buy an Abyssal Scepter  3001.png to stave off some of her burst. Aurelion Sol deals more damage in team fights so if you survive until then you will outscale her.

VS

Akali

Hard

This matchup is very hard for Aurelion Sol because Akali has a point and click method of getting right on top of you: 3 times! Before level 6 you can kill her in the lane but once she hits 6 it will be difficult to stay alive. Play safe, call the jungler to help you out and itemize magic resist if needed. Late game you will have enough hp to survive her burst so you should be able to deal a lot of damage in teamfights; just BE CAREFUL not to let her snowball early on or it will be a tough game!

VS

Anivia

Hard

Anivia is a difficult match up because she has so many tool to lock you down. In this matchup you should almost never try to go for the kill because Anivia can easily self peel with Flash frostflashfrost.png and catch you out and kill you with Crystallize crystallize.png. Late game try to avoid getting caught in her Glacial Storm glacialstorm.png as it will make it easy for the enemy team to kite or kill you. If you play against Anivia your best bet will be to play a mid line damage dealer and try to peel for the carries and help zone.

VS

Annie

Medium

Annie can be moderatly difficult to deal with because she has a stun and a lot of burst, but she's very short range. If Annie comes toward you launch your Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png at her, if it lands you can deal a lot of damage or kill her. Just be careful when she has Flash 4.png off cooldown because she can get on top of you easily. This may be a matchup where barrier or cleanse is appropriate.

VS

Azir

Medium

Azir isn't too bad, he can slow you with his Conjuring Sands azirQ.png but if you stun him with Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png you can easily win a trade. Just be careful when you chase him down, hes pretty good at kiting.

VS

Brand

Medium

Brand isn't too bad as long as you're confident you can dodge his skill shots. If you can, then you can kill him without a problem but if you can't he will decimate you. If you are losing lane itemize magic resist and try to get kills roaming with your Comet of Legend aurelionsolE.png

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

Cassiopeia is not a hard matchup at all, she has no hard cc but her ultimate cassiopeiapetrifyinggaze.png and if you take Ghost 6.png you can get on top of her and kill her easily after stunning her with Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png.

VS

Diana

Hard

Diana is a very hard match up for Aurelion. She can get on top of you with Lunar Rush dianaR.png initially and then re engage with it after you peel her off the first time with Voice of Light aurelionsolR.png. Be very careful not to overextend in lane because a good Diana will take advantage of it. Just try to survive and do your best to get kills roaming to scale up into late game.

VS

Ekko

Hard

Ekko is quite hard to deal with, he can easily get on top of you with his Phase Dive ekkoE.png and stick to you with his passive and ekkoQ.png Time winder. He can also easily dodge your Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png with his Phase Dive ekkoE.png so only use it after he engages on you. Try your best to farm up and scale unto late game. If you let him snowball it will be a tough game.

VS

Fizz

Hard

Fizz is one of the worst matchups in the GAME for Aurelion Sol. Fizz can dodge your Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png with his Playful fizzjump.png and then 100 - 0 you. In this matchup you need to hug your tower and rush magic resist and try not to give him kills if possible. Taking Magic resist runes wouldn't be a bad idea either.

VS

Galio

Medium

Galio is annoying, I know I was a Galio main! This matchup is moderately difficult because he has a lot of tools to either escape you or get on top of you. It's a skill matchup though, if you can dodge his Resolute Smite galioresolutesmite.png and lock him down with Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png then you can win this lane, just be aware he's going to always stack magic resist X'D

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Easy matchup for you, he can't really do too much against you so enjoy the easy lane!

VS

Karma

Medium

Karma is really annoying because she has so much speed and self peel, but she probably won't be able to kill you either so it's pretty much a skill match up.

VS

Karthus

Easy

Ez Pz, if you land a Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png then he has no chance whatsoever.

VS

Kassadin

Medium

Kassadin can be pretty hard to deal with, especially with his mobility and the spell shield on his Null Sphere nulllance.png. Try to wait until he  uses Riftwalk riftwalk.png to engage on him.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Katarina isn't too bad, yes she can get on top of you easily with Shunpo shadowstep.png but you also have 2 tool to cancel her Death Lotus deathlotus.png so if she engages on you it's almost a death sentence.

VS

Kayle

Easy

Kayle isn't too bad, she can slow you with her reckoning  kayleQ.png and try to get on top of you but you can just hit her with Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png and walk away no problem!

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

Leblanc is hard to deal with because she has so much burst damage and mobility. Be careful in this match up, try to save Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png for when she jumps on you with Distortion leblancslide.png. Try to rush some Magic resist and play safe if possible. Roam when you get the opportunity and try to stay behind the tanks late game.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

Lissandra has a lot of self peel, but she lacks a lot of burst damage so you can win the lane if you play it right. Try to wait for her to make a mistake and capitalize on it.

VS

Lux

Medium

Lux is a pain to deal with. If she lands a light binding luxlightbinding.png on you then you are pretty much just going to die. So get early movement speed and try not to get caught by them!

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Malzahar is one of the hardest matchups in the game for EVERYONE! He can sic his minions on you and Nether Grasp alzaharnethergrasp.png you if you get close so just try to wave clear and not give him kills.

VS

Orianna

Medium

Orianna isn't too bad, she doesn't have a really long range so if she tried to harass you should be able to lock her down with Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png and win out on trades.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

Pantheon is an abomination to almost everyone in the game, including top lane. He can easily get on top of you and kill you if he gets close, so try to keep him at distance.

VS

Syndra

Medium

Syndra is a pretty hard match up, but if you can dodge her abilities you'll be ok. Just don't be over aggressive.

VS

Taliyah

Easy

Taliyah is a pretty easy match up, she's fairly underpowered so you won't have a problem winning lane.

VS

Talon

Hard

Talon can easily get on top of you and kill you, so you'll have to play pretty careful.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

Twisted fate is very easy to win lane against. His cc range is very short so if you stun him he'll lose out big.

VS

Veigar

Medium

Veigar is pretty easy to beat as long as you don't let him stun you with his Event Horizon veigareventhorizon.png.

VS

Vel'Koz

Hard

Vel'koz is really hard to deal with because he is constantly casting abilities. If he catches you in a Tectonic disruption there's a good chance you'll die.

VS

Viktor

Medium

Viktor isnt too bad, if you land a stun you'll be in good shape.

VS

Xerath

Medium

Xerath is a skill matchup, if you can get on top of him you'll win but you have to dodge his stun.

VS

Yasuo

Hard

Yasuo is very hard to deal with because of how much mobility he has. Don't play aggressive and save Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png for when he closes distance onto you with Sweeping blade yasuoE.png.

VS

Zed

Hard

Zed is one of your hardest matchups. He has 2 ways of gap closing onto you and he has a lot of burst damage! Play safe and try to poke him with Celestial expansion aurelionsolW.png when you can, just save you Starsurge aurelionsolQ.png for when he engages onto you! Your first item should be Seeker's Armguard 3191.png.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Ziggs casts a lot of spells, but if you can dodge you'll be alright.

VS

Zyra

Medium

Zyra is very annoying because of all her plants. Because of them you'll almost never be able to engage without your jungler, so just try to wave clear and capitalize on mistakes and roam to get kills.
