Summoner Spells Back to Top

About 75% of games you will want to take 4.png 14.png. Flash is a must have for Brand because he has no escape, so it can save you from lane ganks. I use ignite for most match-ups because it can be very useful for finishing off lane opponents after you burst them with your combo.

I use 3.png against most assassin mids like 91_64.png84_64.png, or55_64.png. It makes it fairly easy to kill them if they try to all in you because of the damage reduction and it makes them easy to stun because of the slow.

21.png is a life saver as well. I normally only use it against 238_64.png or 105_64.png. Barrier can basically cancel Zed's ult and it can also save you from fizz's insane burst if his shark hits you. ( exhaust is also useful against either of these champs).

I very, very rarely take 7.png with brand. I've taken it to try to survive if I thought the enemy jungler might camp mid lane. I do think beginner Brand players might want to take heal though, because if you have trouble landing your Q, then heal can save your life.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

These are what I believe to be the best masteries for 63_64.png. I've experimented alot with my masteries and found that these work best. Wanderer and Savagery are both good, but I choose Savagery because it makes it easier to farm for a weeb like me. Also, taking meditation instead of Merciless can be good in lanes that you will be spamming your abilities in.

I level W first because it is your most damage and if the enemy tries to invade your jungle it is AOE, so you can hit multiple people with it.

I normally level E second because you can normally get free poke early on with it by W-Eing a minion so that the E bounces to the enemy. I do think that it is also fine to level Q second, but you probably wont get a chance to land a stun at level 2 so I normally just level it 3rd.

Always max W first because that is about half of your damage that you will do. I max Q second for the cooldown on the stun and e third because it is probably Brand's weakest ability.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

My normal start if i think I have a chance to poke them alot.
I don't really recommend this, but it can be useful if you need to dodge a lot of skillshots. (rush sorc. pen. boots if you start with this)

Core Items

    Core.
    My normal full build.
40% CDR build against magic damage.
40% CDR against Ad heavy team.

Situational Items

If you are the only AP on your team, or if you have to do almost all of the damage on your team.
Getting focused really hard and want some defense? Build one of these instead of protobelt.

In LOL, your build is everything. It is important that you build right, and to do that, you need to understand some things about 63_64.png. He relies very, very hevily on magic pen. beacuse of his passive, so NEVER EVER EVER rush3089_32.png. Also, if you want to really carry a game, you can expect to get hard focused in team fights, so you are going to want to get some defensive items so that you don't get insta-gibbed by a 238_64.png or a 35_64.png

In about 60% of the games i play as Brand, I rush 3136_32.png. It gives you everything you need to pickup firstblood and lane bully your opponent. In some cases, such as against 31_64.png or 134_64.png or 115_64.png, it is also viable to rush3020_32.png because you still do some awesome damage, and you can dodge their skillshots easier. Also, against 238_64.png consider picking up an early3191_32.png.  Some people like to start 3174_32.png, but I never do that. I don't really like that because you lose some damage, but it does make you much less reliant on getting blue buff, so it is viable.

After I've finished 3136_32.png, I almost always get 3020_32.png. Next, I go for 3116_32.png because it makes your stun unbelievably easy to hit and it gives you bonus health, and on top of the bonus health you get from 3136_32.png, you will not be easy to kill. Then get 3135_32.png because it will give you more damage than any other item on the game.  Next, I usually upgrade 3136_32.png into 3151_32.png to get the passive and the small stat boost.

At this point, you are pretty huge, and it is a matter of instinct to know what to build after this. You have to ask yourself what your team needs most from you. Do they need you to do even more damage than the insane amount you already do? Then get 3152.png3285.png, or3089_32.png. Do they need you to stay alive longer in team fights? Then get 3143_32.png or 3065_32.png or3026_32.png. Do you want to troll? then get 1001_32.png1001_32.png1001_32.png1001_32.png1001_32.png1001_32.png. Just kidding. If you troll then you are the reason I have trust issues.

What about 3027_32.png
I think it is a strong item, but not extremely well suited for Brand. It delays your first power spike by quite a bit, but can make you pretty strong late game.

3100_32.png
This makes your combo a little bit harder, but can add massive damage and tower shredding power.

VS

Ahri

Medium

You can bully her early. I would recommend pushing her under tower early because she isn't very good at farming under turret until she gets some items. Be careful of her burst post 6. This matchup basically comes down to who hits their CC skillshot.

VS

Akali

Medium
84_64.png can be a little tricky. Always take exhaust in this matchup. If she jumps on you, E-Q-W her and get out. If you think you can kill her, try to bait out her ult near minions, then E-Q-W-R her. (your ult will hit her multiple times if you stun her near minions.)

*****DO NOT try to W her in her shroud. If she dodges it, she will jump on you and you will not be able to trade with her because W is on cooldown.**************

VS

Anivia

Easy

Pretty Easy. You can out-burst her from level 1-18. She has little mobility so it will be hard for her to dodge your stun, especially once you get 3116_32.png.  she shouldn't be able to burst you down in one combo unless she is way ahead, so If she lands her ice ball and stuns you then you can normally turn and win the trade when she comes up to E you.

VS

Annie

Easy

You definitely have the upper hand in this matchup, but if 1_64.png really good, then she can make it a medium difficulty matchup. You out-range her, so you should be able to out-poke her. She also has a pretty weak early game, so try to take advantage of your massive damage from level 3 to about level 11. She scales like crazy into the late game so definitely build some magic resist for late game.

*** Your ult bounces off of Tibbers! Use this to your advantage.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

Blitz Mid is pretty garbage, but if you see one here is what you do:

1. get boots early.
2. dodge a pull.
3. kill blitz with one combo.
4. be up 40-50 farm easily when coming out of lane.

VS

Brand

Hard

Good luck. If you land more skillshots than him then you will win.

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

You out-damage her by quite a bit until the very, very late game. play aggresive in this lane, you can deny her farm early, but be careful of her burst once she gets 3-4 items.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

The only reason I put this as a medium difficulty matchp is because you probably wont get very many kills on him. 31_64.png can be very hard to burst down because of his ridiculous amounts of health, but you do alot more damage than he does so try to deny him farm and get to teamfights stronger than him.

** your passive does % health. This super effective against 31_64.png

VS

Diana

Hard

A pretty tough matchup. She is hard to burst down because of her shield and she can keep up with your poke with just her Q. When she jumps in on you, E-Q-W her and get out. I normally take exhaust in this matchup.

Basically, farm and get to teamfights.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

NOONE SHOULD EVER PLAY 81_64.png MID BECAUSE IT SUCKS.

He can do decent damage to you and poke you down a little bit, but the moment you hit 1 Q on him the lane is over. You will be able to one combo him once you you finish 3136_32.png

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

It is hard to kill fiddle in lane because he will silence you and you wont be able to W after you stun him most of the time. If he uses his crow on minions, fight him while it is on cooldown.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Since the fizz nerfs in the beginning of season 5, this matchup has gotten easier, but it still isn't favorable. Fizz can still dodge your stun with his E, but if you start with 3136_32.png, you should have enough health to no get one-combo'd by him. Try your best to bait out his troll pole, then go for a stun and kill.

VS

Galio

Hard

Another counter. In most matchups, 63_64.png's damage over time is amazing, but against 3_64.png, your burn will actually heal him. Luckily He is very mana hungry and doesn't hit too hard, so he probably wont kill you. This normally becomes a farm lane, so try to roam and pick up kills from other lanes.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

a suprising amount of people will pick 41_64.png to counter you because he can just orange your stun. If he does this, it doesn't even matter, you will still out damage him if you decide to stay and fight or you will win the trade if you just walk away after you E-Q-W him.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy
74_64.png struggles against 63_64.png. You can clear his turrets with a W-E combo. Try to W the turrets/ minions then wait for him to walk up before you E a turret or minion. ( the E will bounce to him if he is close enough.)  you out-damage him pretty much the whole game and he has a hard time bullying you in lane.

** use his turrets to your advantage when using your ult and your E.

VS

Jayce

Medium

A good pick and a solid champ. 126_64.png is actually a strong mid laner and his range makes it very hard to deny him farm. You probably wont ever get close enough to stun him, but if he does jump on you, there is a good chance that you will end up killing him.

VS

Karma

Easy

Play aggresive in this lane. this lane is pretty easy because you out-damage her the entire game. If she tries to snare you with her W, stun and kill her.

VS

Karthus

Easy

He has no mobility so he will struggle to dodge your skillshots. You are much, much stronger than him early to try to deny him farm and pick up a kill once you hit 6.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

I was so happy when they nerfed him! This lane is SUPER easy now. you can harass him early because he is melee. He used to be the #1 counter to 63_64.png, but now, if he is ever dumb enough to jump on you, stun and kill him.

VS

Katarina

Medium

I normally take exhaust against her, but ignite is also good. You can get really really fed off of over confident 55_64.pngs (and there are a lot of them). you probably won't get a kill before 6 in this lane because she can dodge your q with her E. Once she gets level 6, she will probably try to all in you. bait her into using her ult then either exhaust or stun her and then it is an easy kill.

VS

Kayle

Medium

This is a weird lane. It all depends on how good they are with 10_64.png really. You can out-poke her, and if you can hit a good stun on her then you can kill her, but if you are too predicatable with your abilities then she will ult and kill you.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

If she is good at all, you will probably never land a stun, but if you ever proc her passive (the clone), ult imediately. It will bounce of the clone and hit her either 2 or 3 times, giving you an easy kill. Always be aware of her cooldowns and try to take advantage if she wastes them. START E IN THIS MATCHUP FOR AN EASY LVL 1 TRADE!!

VS

Lee Sin

Easy

Lee mid isn't very common, but i put this on here because you counter lee jungle pretty hard as well. If he tries tries to follow up on any Q that he throws, it means that you can hit the easiest stun of your life and insta-gib him.

*** if you are against a melee mid and lee sin ganks you, save your ult until they are on top of you. you can pick up easy double kills with a correctly timed R-W-E-Q combo.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

Poor 127_64.png. This lane is easy. You out-range,  out-damage, and out-sexy her. Dodge her Q's, and if she ever E's towards you, blow her up.

VS

Lux

Medium

This one can be a little tricky. Heal can save your life if you get caught by her snare. She out-ranges you, but you out damage her by quite a bit. What i normally do against 99_64.png is farm it out until level 6-8, or whenever I finish 3136_32.png, then I let her land a Q. When she comes up to AA you( to proc her passive), stun and kill her.

VS

Malphite

Medium

A very annoying matchup. your burn will keep his passive from coming back up, but you probably aren't going to kill him. You will be able to out-farm him most likely. When you get the chance, try to push up the wave and roam.

VS

Malzahar

Easy

DENY HIM FARM EARLY. This is essential to beating 90_64.png. His space-aids will not clear a minion wave by itself early on, so do not let him AA minions. He has 0 mobility so he has a hard time dodging your stun. If you time your stun right you can also cancel his ult.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

Don't let him get to close, but if he does, stun and W him to win the trade. Play pretty aggresive in this lane and try to deny him farm early on.

VS

Orianna

Medium

She can be very annoying with her poke, but if you all in her after level 6, you can kill her pretty easy.

******** DO NOT trade auto attacks with 61_64.png. Her's do much more damage than yours.

VS

Riven

Easy

Poke her early. She will probably try to all in at level 3 or level 6. when she does this, stun her and either run away or turn and try to kill her. If you are behind in this lane, farm and play very passive. you will outscale her really hard if you don't feed her.

VS

Ryze

Easy

You counter him. Your range is way way way farther than his, so use that to poke him in lane. Also, you can normally bait him into a trade by walking close to him and letting him snare you. When he does that, E-Q-W-R and laugh at his dead body.

*** when baiting him into trades, make sure he is not standing behind minons. If he is, you wont be able to stun him and could lose the trade.

VS

Swain

Medium

The one thing you need to do against 50_64.png is dodge his snare. If you do that, he won't be able to ever catch you because he has no gap closer and you can stun him pretty easily. If he gets too close to you than you are pretty much screwed because he will still life drain you when he is stunned, but if you can keep your distance then you can win this matchup pretty easily.

VS

Syndra

Medium

Her range makes it tough, but if you land a max range Q, or if you ever get close to her go in and you should be able to 1 combo her. Be careful of her burst at level 6 and ALWAYS keep track of where her Q's are.

VS

Talon

Medium

After they removed his silence, 91_64.png became very easy to beat as 63_64.png. Poke him down in lane, and if he ever jumps on you, you basically get a free stun on him, which means you can throw your whole combo at him and either kill him or make him go back to base. He does have suprising range on his W, so be careful of that when you go to poke him. HE also can deal alot of damage very quickly if you don't have armor, so build an early 3191_32.png.

VS

Teemo

Easy
17_64.png17_64.png17_64.png17_64.png17_64.png17_64.png17_64.png17_64.png

The Devil himself, Teemo. Teemo is pretty easy to handle because you just out-damage and out-range him pretty hard. Try to keep track of where he puts his shrooms and consider getting a 3341_32.png or a 3362_32.png or a 2043_32.png to help you scout them out.

VS

Veigar

Medium

You have to deny him farm early. If you don't then he will snowball like crazy. He has kind of a cheezy combo, but if he ever misses his stun, go all in on him right away. he cant get away from you and you can one combo him.

VS

Viktor

Medium

This is almost like facing another 63_64.png. If you hit your skillshots you win easily, but if he hits his, then he wins. Try waiting until after he uses his E to poke him, because you have to stand still to use your abilities, so he can hit you easily with his E if he uses it while you are using your abilities.

VS

Xerath

Medium

His range is crazy. If you can get close to him, you can blow him up, but getting close to him isn't very easy.  Do not stand close to or in your minions against him. you have to make him choose between either farming or trying to poking you with his Q and W.

VS

Yasuo

Medium
157_64.png is a very strong champ, but not a very good pick against 63_64.png. His windwall does not stop your W or your E. If he ever dashes towards you, you normally get an easy stun and a free kill. Keep track of whether he has his windwall up, because he can cancel your entire ult with it.

VS

Zed

Medium

If he is really good, he can dodge your Q with his shadows. If you do land a stun on him you can normally kill or get him to recall. He will almost always try to all-in at level 6, so i normally bring 21.png because it basically negates the damage from his ult. Always start 3191.png in this matchup.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Alot like playing 134_64.png. His range can be challenging, but if you get close to him and stun him it is game over for 115_64.png. This lane often turns into alot of farming, so consider roaming after you get your ult.

General Tips on Getting Out of Bronze/Silver Back to Top

My experience with bronze went something like this:

there is definitely a skill gap between bronze and silver, but I think they can both be considered "ELO hell". These are some of the ways I got out.

1. Mechanics.
This one is obvious. You have to be able to hit skillshots and have correct positioning in teamfights to win at any level, but I think the 2 most important aspects of mechanics are farming and map awareness. If you are really good at farming, it is like getting fed for free. If you can get 150 farm at 20 minutes in Bronze/Silver, you don't have to have a single kill in lane and you will be the strongest person in the game. A good benchmark to set for yourself is to get 100 farm at 15 minutes (excluding junglers/supports). That isn't fantastic farming, but if  you can do that, you will almost always have more farm and gold than your opponent at this level.

2.Stay focused on objectives.
KILLS DO NOT WIN GAMES! objectives win games. It is amazing to me how many people will give up dragon, or a tower, or even baron to chase a kill in the jungle. Let me lay it out for you.
minion kill < champ kill < outer turret < inner turret < drag < inhib. turret < inhib. < baron < nexus
Another thing to be noted here is choosing the correct time to take objectives. Look at the map. Ask yourself these questions:
i)How many of the enemy can we see?
ii)How many of them are alive? How many of us are alive?
                          iii) Is thier Jungler alive?
                          iv) Is the objective warded?
                          v) Where are they on the map? (If they are bot- chance to baron. if they are top- chance to drag.)
vi) If they fight us here, can we win the fight?

3.Have a winning attitude.
This is very important. If you start a game with a bad attitude, you are setting yourself up to lose. Also, take advantage of the mute button if someone is raging.

4.Understand power spikes.
You have to know when it is a good time to fight and when it is a bad time to fight. Check enemy items often and know when your champ is strongest. For example, if you are in bot lane and you go back on your first buy and get a 1037_32.png, but your lane opponent comes back with a 1038_32.png, unless you have a god at support and you get the perfect engage and severely outplay them, you are going to lose every trade or fight because of the item differential. Also, be aggressive and take advantage of when you have the item advantage. If you are playing ADC and you have just finished 3031_32.png, and you look at your opponent's items and see that they are sitting on a 3144_32.png, or 1037_32.png and 1018_32.png then FIGHT. Hard engage them, because there is very, very little they can do to kill you at this point. NOTE:(This does not mean tower dive at level 4. It just means pressure your lane when you are ahead.)

5. Don't be afraid to be a hipster.
Just because a champ isn't super popular, or isn't played in the LCS, doesn't mean you shouldn't play them. All champs can be strong, it only matters who YOU like and who YOU think is strong.

6.Play more than 1 champ.
You should be able to play 2-3 champs effectively in each lane. You aren't always going to get the lane or the champ you want, so have alternatives ready.

Playing Brand in Other Roles Back to Top

63_64.png is awesome because, besides what most people think, he can dominate games in more than one role. Here I am going to give some brief tips for Brand support, top, and jungle.

BRAND SUPPORT:

Brand support is super viable and can be a menace in the bot lane. He has tremendous damage and poke without having to get any items. I run 11/0/19 masteries on Brand support, and start with 3303_32.png,  2003_32.png.  I either rush 3020_32.png or 3136_32.png, then get 2049_32.png and 3092_32.png. Brand is super rich as support because hitting an enemy with any of your abilities clears any stacks that you have on 3092_32.png because of his burn. Make sure you get a 3116_32.png somewhere along the line. it will help tremendously with peeling for your adc.  BEWARE OF BLITZCRANK SUPPORT AS BRAND. A good Blitz can capitalize on Brand's lack of mobility.

BRAND TOP:

Brand top actually isn't much different from Brand mid. I could even argue that Brand fits better in the top lane than in mid lane, but now is not the time for that. I usually have my standard start1056_32.png2003_32.png2004_32.png. I run 21/0/9 for masteries. It is not required, but consider taking12.png. I have experimented with items like 3174_32.png3165_32.png with Brand top. Mana regen and CDR are crutial to Brand top lane, because he relies more on poking down his opponent in the top lane, rather than one combo-ing them like he can do to most mid laners. Also, consider an early defensive item top lane. BEWARE NASUS AS BRAND TOP. His wither is super OP, and really makes Brand's life a living hell.

BRAND JUNGLE:

The jungle might be the most fun place to play Brand. He has crazy long cc for ganks, and packs a punch. I haven't played much Brand jungle in season 5, but I would start 1039_32.png2003_32.png2003_32.png. I would rush 1402.png then basically build my core after that. 3151_32.png3135_32.png, and3116_32.png. You will probably have to back early in the jungle, but don't let that get you down. Even if you don't have succesful ganks, Brand will come on strong in the teamfights.

About me Back to Top

Hello! My name is Hermano de Oso (I'm not actually Mexican, so please no racial slurs when I mess up). I am a college student and I started playing LOL in June of 2013.

I love Brand and I think he is one of the strongest champs in the game. I had about a 75% win rate with him in bronze, that dropped to about 65% in silver, and now it is around 65% in gold/plat.

Here is a list of my 10 favorite champs in order. 63_64.png50_64.png53_64.png31_64.png412_64.png89_64.png90_64.png86_64.png,53_64.png,1_64.png.
