Summoner Spells Back to Top

Alright guys, Hanjaro here... LETS GO. Flash and ignite are taken in some scenarios. I would recommend taking 4.pngflash and 14.pngignite vs other bot lane mages/squishy utility supports. Running ignite will allow you to secure kills vs squishier champions. If you are playing against more aggressive types of supports such as 12.pngAlistar, 412.pngThresh, 111.pngNautilus, I would recommend taking 3.pngexhaust instead of 14.pngignite to counter their engage with the use of exhaust on the enemy ADC. Being a support mage it is okay to secure kills with your ignite, you are not taking the gold and building utility, you are building damage and helping to carry the game. Don't be fooled by your measly ADC81.pngLUL, they are not the carry in this game if you picked 63.pngBrand.

Flash: use this ability to escape enemy engages that are for sure death if you get hit by their CC, or for engaging the mid game with an ult/combo on the enemy carries119.png99.png

4.pngFlash and 3.pngExhaust are preferable against hard engage champions such as the 12.png412.png111.png53.png, if you ever get caught by these champions their CC is overwhelmingly strong and can cause you to be all inned in 1 engagement. Use the exhaust to help disengage the enemy ADC while trying to escape/land your abilities to turn the trade.

Masteries Back to Top

Sorcery- Increased ability damage for trades throughout the duration of the game.

Expose Weakness- Allows your allies to deal increased damage after you deal damage, brand does massive amounts of area of effect damage between his ultimatebrandr.pngand passive abiltiesbrandpassive.png
Natural Talent- To increase your ability power and attack damage per level helping to scale your power into the later game.
Double-edged Sword- As Brand were not really worried about receiving damage but dealing damage, 5% damage increase is highly worth the 2.5 increased damage taken.
Piercing Thoughts- Magic Penetration to help benefit brands kit and mainly his passive ability in team fights.
Deathfire Touch-This mastery combos really well with Brands passive abilitybrandpassive.pngAblaze. Brands passive applies a Damage over Time effect that lasts 4 seconds and reapplies deathfire touch for each tick.
Wanderer-Increased movement speed to get from place to place, not only does this help with rotations, but getting out of base and setting up vision control as a support will be somewhat easier with this added movement speed.
Secret Stash- Extra benefit from potions in lane, get that extra sustain to outlast your enemies,(or at least keep up in sustain if they are running the same mastery point).
Meditation- highly important point here, this is a lot of your base regen in lane when it comes to trading and poking the enemy out of lane. Mana management is very important. You don't want to run yourself down to the point where you cannot trade with your 3 abilities pre-level  6.
Dangerous Game- I personally run dangerous game because this way you're not forced to trade to generate extra gold from bandit, forced trades cause extra deaths in my experience. What I prefer is dangerous game,(surviving once during a game with dangerous game prevents the enemy team from receiving 300 kill gold + 150 assist gold, whereas generating this same amount of gold with bandit would require 100-150 trades. Not only can you deny enemy gold but also getting that 5% mana can be game changing in order to cast the last spell to win a fight since with this Brand build you do not run any items that generate mana upon kill or assist.

Brands Optimal Combo is E + Q + W for maximized damage.

Brands Q ability is a direction fireball that applies a stun to the target hit IF Ablazebrandpassive.png is already on the target, Ablaze can be applied from any of Brands abilities.
The reason for comboing in this order is because of the bonus effect of damage on Brands W brandw.png. If ablaze is already on the target Brands W brandw.png will apply 25% extra damage.
Another combo that is great for optimizing Area of Effect damage for Brand would be to Qbrandq.png  to apply Ablazebrandpassive.png, as soon as the Q hits you can use your Ebrande.png to spread the ablaze to nearby targets and then use your Wbrandw.png for 25% bonus damage on all targets hit.

Landing your combo Ebrande.png + Qbrandq.png + Wbrandw.png is most optimal for damage output, but not always the most practical for combat purposes. A lot of times you will find yourself in situations where using your W first to apply ablaze so that you can stun the target and then combo your E afterwards to set off your passive are more practical because you will not always be in range to use your E first

Brands Rbrandr.png we call this one the GameWinner. During the late game you are looking for optimal situations being enemy carries standing in a close group so that your ultimate will bounce multiple times between then setting off your passive. Many late game engagements are made when their carries are together, as Brand you will flash R onto their carries, attempt to Q afterwards for stun into your E + W combo for extra damage.

Another things to evaluate in the mid-game if your team somewhat lacks waveclear put an extra point in E early so you can W + E to clear the backline of minions.

Core Items

Situational Items

Itemizing for Brand (Support). My current item order for Brand support is Spellthiefs3303.png and 3 pots2009.png.

Brands kit greatly benefits from magic pen considering his %damage on his passive. Also damage over time affixes work really well with brands passive. Liandries is reapplied for every tick of brands passive. If you also have Rylais, the Liandry's damage is doubled per tick.

So your Item order for Brand in a normal even match throughout the game after you get your spellthief and your potions is: Sightstone2049.png, Sorcerer Shoes3020.png, Liandry's Torment3151.png, Rylais Crystal Sceptre3116.png, if the enemy has any magic resist get a Void Staff3135.png next before finishing off with your Luden's Echo3285.png and Eye of the Watchers2301.png.

Brand does not have great AP scaling on his abilities and therefore Liandry + Rylais is very optimal with his kit because of his extended passive being on enemy reapplying your Liandry + Rylai + Deathfire Touch.

My Reason for getting Luden's Echo with this build after you combo your abilities, if you have the chance to escape, your ludens will be procced initially, but you can proc it again before your passive wears off by using the rest of your abilities + moving around.

Build order for this can be altered slightly if your team is up in gold around 5k+, I would suggest itemizing towards Rylais first for the utility it brings to assist your team in engaging on the slowed enemy. I ONLY recommend going this item before Liandry's if you are ahead to snowball your team, but if theres any possibility that you need to solely carry this game ALWAYS rush Liandry first for more optimized damage.

VS

Bard

Easy

Playing against Bard should be a relatively easy matchup for brand. Bard has a level 1 spike where he can trade his q + his passive for thunderlords proc + stun for extra followup. Brand should play back slightly at level 1 and use his W to outrange bards Q + autos. So try to poke early in this lane for a health advantage for potential all in at level 2. Make sure to take Q at level 2 so you can stun the enemy and try to secure a kill.

VS

Blitzcrank

Hard

Blitzcrank can be a more difficult champion to play against as Brand, 1 hook can typically lead to your death. Throughout laning phase use minions to directionally block Blitz's ability to hook you. If he ever runs up to try to get around minions to trade on you try to apply your stun and walk out of his range to hook you. Usually if blitz is running at you through minions without any sort of advantage there is probably an enemy jungler near. So try your best to stun and run. However, if hes running at you and you have good vision control, stun and kill!

Blitzcrank is a melee champion that only has a hook for engage, if he uses his hook earlygame you have 20 seconds to punish him with abilities + auto attacks, use that time well.

VS

Braum

Easy

Braums only way to engage on you is by hopping to a minion and trying to apply his q + passive. As Brand in this matchup poke down braum and his ADC by poking long range with your W and if they are in the open try to follow up with a stun if possible for follow up trade potential/kill. Avoid positioning near his minions because that is his only method of getting in melee range.

Braum is a melee champion that is very abusable at level 1 outrange him with your spells and auto attacks to establish a nice health advantage.

VS

Janna

Medium

Janna lanes aren't typically much of a threat, however it can be very difficult to beat janna in lane due to her ability to deny damage. Jannas shield is a 10s cooldown and for every 10% cdr she has that is 1 full second off her shield CD. The best way to try to get ahead in this lane is to poke with your w  and hope she doesn't shield the target you choose in time, otherwise your damage will just get negated. At level 6 jannas ulti heal will negate your ulti burst so in this lane just try to poke them out slowly possibly all in with ignite, I rate this a medium difficulty lane because it can be difficult to secure kills, not that its difficult to go even. If janna ever wastes her shield randomly when not denying damage abuse that cooldown to trade on her and her ADC.

VS

Karma

Medium

Karma is a heavy poke lane that trades very well early vs Brand because of her ability to deal high damage and also shield targets. Be careful of your positioning against karma use minions to block her Q while trying to poke from range with W if she ever walks forward into your E range look for the stun with Q into combo with W, I would recommend ignite in this lane for use of denying her mantra w heal if she looks to lock you down with it. Poke from range, abuse shield cooldown, use minions to block/deny her damage from Q.

VS

Leona

Hard

This is a very difficult matchup due to the amount of lockdown that Leona has on 1 target. ! combo from Leona can E + Q + W + ADC followup + Ignite will result in your death in lane. To beat this lane abuse Leona from range with your spells, especially punish her level 1 since she is a melee champion, use spells + autos at lvl 1 to force health advantage and deny her from having lane dominance.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Just like the other shield matchups Lulu can be difficult to kill, i rate this lane as medium difficulty because the utility from her kit makes it hard to kill the enemy not that it is a pure counter to brand. In this lane try to outrange lulu with your w and poke targets that aren't being shielded. establish an HP advantage in lane if possible and then look to get an all in trade with stun if you can.

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Malzahar is being played quite frequently in the support role, most Malzahar support players are maxing W for trades with his pets. Avoid the pets at all costs, if he uses them early to trade try to disengage using a bush if its not warded or run them to your turret to get them killed, try to abuse malzahar pre6 using this method and fight while his pets are on cooldown. At level 6 CAUTION HE MAY FLASH R there is no counter at this point in time.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Playing vs Morgana is a medium difficulty match. In this lane be cautious of bindings while trying to trade from the safety of minions. Use these minions to deny bindings, step back out of her puddles not to the side into bind range. Morgana will try to black shield your stun in combat situations however if you start with your w she will probably blackshield after your w lands to deny your q, use your E to break the black shield and then look to land your Q for the stun + passive combo.

VS

Nami

Medium

Nami is a very high sustain champ that uses her heal to poke+heal simultaneously. This matchup can be annoying because your poke will get negated if she is using the minions as well to deny your stun potential, while trading she will walk forward and try to use her w on you or herself depending on if she is missing health yet or not, try to punish her if she doesn't properly use minions to block your stun.

VS

Nautilus

Hard

This is a very rough matchup for brand, Nautilus is a very high damage TANK in the early game. Nautilus will look to combo his q + e + auto attack /passive into W auto attack reset. If you get caught by a nautilus hook and the enemy adc is within range to trade flash away immediately because there is enough damage to kill you in 1 rotation. Use minions to avoid hooks, try to poke enemy ADC, avoid standing in the open.

VS

Sona

Hard

Sona has decent range poke + sustain, she can poke from the safety of minions and not get stunned by Brand combo. Try to poke enemy ADC when Sona is positioned away from them, therefore she cannot apply her shield but only her heal to ally. At level 6 be cautious of Sona ultimate + combo her ult + q + powerchord ignite and any ADC followup is possibly death. Punish her if she doesn't use minions to avoid your q and look to all in with ADC ANY time you get a stun combo.

VS

Soraka

Hard

Soraka is a very difficult matchup to kill HOWEVER early game soraka has a very long cooldown on her heal. Look to punish this long cooldown and look for aggressive plays at level 2 or 3 when you can combo your 2 or 3 abilities into stun + passive + ignite to burst through her heals + adc heal. This is not typically a lane you can poke down, you will have to find a way to all in if you want to secure kills.

VS

Tahm Kench

Easy

Tahm Kench is a relatively easy match for Brand poke either Tahm or his ADC out of lane to establish CS and health advantage for you and your ally. Use minions to avoid getting the tongue don't get engaged on, dont allow to walk up into melee range if he ever walks forward punish with stun combo + autos and use minions to your advantage to block his spells.

VS

Taric

Medium

Taric has a shield + heal for ally, Taric only has a short range stun for engagement, however this can be a very difficult lane to kill so i rate this as medium difficulty, Taric ult will completely deny damage done by Brands ulti + passive combo and allow tarics team to engage freely, try to abuse Taric being a melee champ and land your spells + autos to establish a health advantage and slowly force him OOM and out of lane. If Taric overstays or doesn't heal using his Q or pots efficiently to stay near topped off you have kill potential with ADC on taric or ally by landing combo.

VS

Thresh

Medium

I rate Thresh as a medium difficulty matchup, if Thresh lands a hook in laning phase on you as Brand you are killable in 1 rotation from thresh and enemy ADC. Be cautious of positioning and use minions to your advantage to deny his ability to hook you. Poke with W from range establish health advantage and look to land a stun combo if hes ever in the open.

VS

Vel'Koz

Hard

this can be a rough match, however if you run movespeed quints in this matchup you have a small advantage over dodging velkoz's abilities and can move aggressively close to him to land your spells. MUST DODGE HIS ABILITIES TO OUTPLAY, Velkoz can harass in minions and in directional positions, there is really no safe spot to stand other than position aggressively in dodging his abilities while landing your own.

VS

Zilean

Medium

Zilean bombs are relatively long range, stay tricky stay moving if he wastes a bomb he can only place another bomb within the next few seconds by using his W reset. Abuse him if a bomb is wasted without him landing a stun, otherwise poke from range try to get health advantage and force out of lane. Level 6 can be tricky to get kills because of Zileans ulti, best thing to do if zilean ults is to disengage and wait for the ult to wear off instead of finishing off the target. Let the target sit on low health until ult wears off and then try to finish them off if its an option.

VS

Zyra

Medium

Zyra will try to poke with Q + plants try to avoid taking damage from Q so plants don't prioritize you over minions. If she uses q + plant, step aside and let minions tank the damage. Poke from range with W if you have health advantage wait til she misses her E or Q and look to aggressively stun and kill. Avoid playing aggressive when zyra hits 6 if she lands her root her combo is equally lethal as Brands. Poke long range look for max range stun if possible.
