Summoner Spells Back to Top

you take 14.png or 12.png for mid and top respectively

14.png: gives that extra kill potential against squishy mid lane opponents

12.png: pretty much essential to take on top lane, allows you to get across the map to make impact plays for your team

4.png: definitely take flash on Cho, too good not to have on him. Allows you to make plays from across the wall or serves as the gap closer you need to hit your silence feralscream.png or feast feast.png

Masteries Back to Top

These are pretty standard runes for the most part. You can go natural talent over vampirism if you like, I just like the extra healing it gives you which combos with your passive chogathpassive.png nicely. On the other tree, some people like wanderer more than savagery but savagery lets you cs better and push waves more easily. Wanderer is also a good choice if you want that extra move speed out of combat though.

For me, the three most important masteries are feast, secret stash, and thunderlords.

Feast: feast has amazing synergy with you passive chogathpassive.png and vampirism. You'd be surprised how much healing this gives you. Late game, if you get out of a team fight low health, go farm a wave. You can heal a considerable amount.

Secret Stash: I honestly believe that 90% of laners should run this mastery. Overall offers a ton of healing throughout the game

Thunderlords: As far as melee champions go, Cho'Gath is one of the easiest champions to proc thunderlords. Your evorpalspikes.png means that two auto-attacks will proc thunderlords, a skill and an auto will also proc it. In lane, you can also use the spikes on your e vorpalspikes.png to damage the enemy champion without even targeting them. That means you would only need 1 auto-attack to proc thunderlords. Overall, thunderlords gives Cho great damage in lane and helps give you that extra boost when assassinating squishy champs.

Level 1: getting e vorpalspikes.png is great because it gives you the auto-attack boost and helps you kill creeps easily. If the opposing laner is able to harass you a lot i can see some people take q rupture.png or w feralscream.png, but I still recommend getting e vorpalspikes.png pretty much every time.

Level 2: q rupture.png is the best option. It offers good damage and a knock-up slow. Also gives you the ability to escape enemies. Cho has bad mobility overall so hitting your enemy with a q rupture.png is a great way to escape since it also slows. Overall great skill and you get a decent level 2 power spike against unsuspecting mages

Level 3: w feralscream.png having a silence is great for Cho. It is also a super easy skill to hit on an enemy with the cone. You max this skill first because it gives good, reliable damage and the silence duration scales with levels. A 2 second silence is a great weapon against any enemy.

Ultimate feast.png: This is the defining characteristic of Cho'Gath. You can use it to nuke an enemy, steal a monster from an opponent (out damages smite at all levels), or stack up and gain health. in lane, the way I like to use it is by keeping r feast.png on CD. Essentially you want to keep eating minions unless you know that you can kill an enemy soon, or your team is going for an objective. Most of the time, if there isn't a threat of a teamfight, I use my r feast.png to nuke drag and get the stack. If you think you're going to fight soon, don't use it.

Core Items

Once you get these two items, you are in business. big damage

Situational Items

basically go these if they have a heavy damage dealer if you can't deal with it (ex: vayne is fed, go frozen heart and zhonyas, ex2: fed xerath, go abyssal scepter and banshee's)

basically be smart with your build. If you need resistances, buy one or two of the situational items. If you are rolling, an example build is ROA>Luden's>Rabadon's>Void>GA
