Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on him. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

For Cho Gath I recommend taking the Resolve tree for Runes.

Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32I recommend taking Grasp of the Undying because you can deal extra damage through autos and as you’re melee this will benefit you the most.

Demolish.png?width=32 Demolish is also good because in most situations you will not be able to kill the enemy, so having extra tower damage is good.

Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin is great on Cho because you gain armor which will help protect you against even the hardest of lanes.

Second%20Wind.png?width=32 I then recommend Second Wind as it gives him healing after trades. Even with his already amazing passive- you will never be low on health with this Rune!

Precision is the second Rune tree.

Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph is good because it grants sustain when you get a kill or assist.

Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend:Tenacity is good because you can get permanent tenacity. Tenacity is good on your champion because you can often get CC locked, but not as often with this rune!

Cho'Gath's Passive is Carnivore

Whenever Cho'Gath kills an enemy or destroys a structure he will restore health and some mana.

Screenshot_1.png
179.png
Cho'Gath's Q is Rupture

Cho'Gath knocks up any enemy champions in an AOE circle and slows them when they fall back to the rift.

Tips: Rupture should be used after using your W. I recommend doing this as it will be much easier to hit as the enemy will not be able to escape as they will be silenced. If your ability kills an enemy minion then you will gain mana and health back. You can use your Q as a damper to stop the enemy from going a certain direction. The cast time of your Q is something that takes practice to learn and master, keep that in mind when playing him.

Screenshot_2.png
179.png
Cho'Gath's W is Feral Scream

Cho roars in front of him and silences any enemies who are hit by it.

Tips:  If your ability kills an enemy minion then you will gain mana and health back. Cho'Gaths W is one of the strongest in the game because it is a Silence. When an enemy is silenced they cannot use their abilities or use any summoners. You can use your W followed by your Q to Silence and Knock up the enemies. This is by far the best combo for Cho early.

Screenshot_3.png
179.png
Cho'Gaths E is Vorpal Spikes

Cho'gaths next 3 auto attacks have a bonus range of 50, and launches spikes in a line behind the chosen enemies dealing magic damage and slowing them.

Tips: Your E is an auto attack reset and should be used directly after auto attacking an enemy. If your ability kills an enemy minion then you will gain mana and health back. Your E is will help you deal damage to enemies, especially early game. If you cannot auto the enemies then do not worry. In the early game, you can use this combo : W + Q + AA + E + AA.

Screenshot_4.png
179.png
Cho'Gaths R is Feast

Cho'Gath attempts to eat the enemy target dealing true damage to enemies.
If Feast kills the target then he gains one Feast Stack. This can stack up infinitely, but only 6 stacks against non epic monsters or minions.
Each Stack grants bonus health and attack range, as well as increasing the size of Cho.

Tips: You can use your ultimate on champions or minions/monsters. If you eat a monster then you will deal up to 1000 true damage to them. You can eat Dragon, Baron and Rift Herald and you will be the person who takes these objectives. When using your ultimate, you have to realize that it will be on cool down for a while and unable to be used offensively on enemies if you have used it on minions. You need to use your own judgement here.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Dorans Ring is the best start for Cho Gath as it gives him everything he needs to sustain in the laning phase.
Dorans Blade is good versus heavy AD/ Auto attack centric enemy laners. Take this if you will be constantly poked.
If you’re versus a lane that you do not think you will do well in, I suggest getting corrupting potion. Mixed in with your already insane built in sustain- you will stay healthy in this lane.

Core Items

Your first major item should be Righteous Glory.
    Second items Boots
Your 3rd major item will be Warmogs.
The fourth item should be Gargoyle Stonplate- REMEMBER TO USE THE ACTIVE!
Your fifth and sixth item will be thornmail and locket. Locket is good as it gives your team extra shielding.

Situational Items

Good item if you’re against Heavy AP.
Good against Heavy AP, also grants you some extra AP.
Dead Mans Plate – Good item as it gives health and Armor.
Spirit Visage – Good item as it gives Health, Magic resist and CDR.
Frozen heart- Gives Mana and Armor.
Build the boots depending on the enemy team composition. Does the enemy have mainly AD or mainly AP?

Your first core item will be Righteous Glory. This item is really strong as it grants health, armor mana and CDR. This item is overall really strong on Cho’Gath as it also has a passive that allows him to get right into the enemies to start a team fight. It also allows you to get closer to them quicker and one shot the enemy carry- Sorry. You can now also upgrade boots. Your third item will be Warmogs. The passive and sustain from this item is ridiculous. You should easily be able to get over 3k health because of your ultimate stacks. Your fourth item should be Gargoyle Stoneplate- REMEMBER TO USE THE ACTIVE IN TEAM FIGHTS! This item will win or lose you team fights, just use it in the fight. Your 5th item will be Thornmail followed by Locket.

If you’re versus a heavy AD laner, then you can go for an early bramble vest. However do not upgrade it till later on in the game.

VS

Darius

Medium

To win this line you have to play passive and not let him get free damage on you. In the early levels he is very hard to play against. This is a melee versus melee lane, and he will win if he gets free harass.Play passive and do not let him harass you, if he miss positions you should W+Q him. Make sure not to feed, this will help not only yourself but your team as well.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

This is an easy matchup because it is a tank versus tank lane. You will not be able to kill them alone, so you will need jungle assistance to do anything in this lane. Cho’gath will out sustain any enemy champions because of his passive. Beware of the CC of this champion and try not to get to cocky, this is a farm lane and you should just try to out farm them and put them as behind as possible. DO not let him poke you with Q.

VS

Fiora

Medium

Cho does badly against majority of fighters that includes Fiora. Beware of her damage output and do not let her harass you for free. You will have to sacrifice your CS for experience. Do not get to cocky, because he does have alot of damage, and can easily E+Q you. Make sure to silence him.

VS

Kennen

Hard

This is a hard matchup because of the range advantage. Cho’Gath is melee and a tank and suffers from low range with not much damage. You cannot match this champion’s damage, and you will come out worse off if you go for trades. You should try to poke them down whenever they miss position. You just need to farm up and be prepared to sacrifice your CS for experience.

VS

Renekton

Medium

This is going to be a difficult lane because they’re a fighter champion. Cho’gath and tanks in general do not do well against fighters early. You will need to trade back with them, but do not go for extended trades. You do have the sustain advantage over them, but do not be over aggressive or get cocky with that fact. Keep in mind, you will need to sacrifice some CS for experience but try to freeze so you do not need to do that.

VS

Trundle

Easy

In this match up you should not let him poke you and not out trade you. Beware of his Q and his E as well as his ultimate damage. Trundle isn't very strong in the current meta, how about do not let that affect your gameplay. He provides lots of CC for his team by his Q E and Ultimate. You should not let him get the lane advantage, in most situations this will be just a farm lane.

W + Q + AA + E + AA

W + Q +AA + E + AA + R

AA + E + AA + Q + R

AA + E + AA + W + Q + R

Things to Remember:

  1. Always execute with R to get the stack.
  2. Remember to Auto attack, then use your E as it is an auto attack reset.
  3. The best chance of hitting your Q is Silencing (W) the enemy first.

Early Game Back to Top

The early game for Cho'gath is pretty simple. Your main goal is to survive and farm up for the mid to late game where you shine. Cho'gath is a tank, and needs time to scale. In the early lanes you need to just survive and farm. You have alot of sustain because of your passive and you also have a ton of CC. This gives you some leniency when farming and trading. However, your sustain is only from killing creeps- do not get to aggressive because your sustain is not super reliable.

Just farm, and try to deny the enemy as much as possible. Remember to get stacking with your ultimate. Try not to die and do not let the enemy harass you for free.

Your Job In Team Fights Back to Top

Cho Gath is a tank and should be played like one. There are 2 major options for him in team fights. The first is to be the front line. The second is to be the Peel Machine. A tanks normal job is to be the front line for your team, protecting them from incoming damage and taking the damage from your team. This should be the main job, however if you're unable to do that. Then you will need to be a secondary support and peel for your team. Thankfully, your kit allows you to do this because of your Q W and R. What you do is go in, then peel back and protect your carries- focusing whoever or whatever is on them.

This Clip here shows you what you should be doing - Going in, then peeling back

Cho'Gath can also "one shot" people with his W Q Ultimate. Do not always try to go for the big plays as it can result in a failure. And remember, always use your Gargoyl's Stoneplate.
