Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png12.png

Flash + Teleport

My go-to summoner spells.
Flash enables most of your finishing or setup moves, and helps you secure kills or escape ganks.
Teleport helps you recover from early ganks, and you can make some good plays botlane if needed.
Most players say that TP is bad and you should run ghost, but the higher you go the harder the enemy team will punish you, but ultimately it is up to you.

4.png6.png

Flash + Ghost

This setup allows you to fix for a few seconds Darius' need of mobility and lets you chase down enemies.
Flash enables most of your finishing or setup moves, and helps you secure kills or escape ganks.
Ghost helps you abusing the long lane and makes your flanks easier to pull off, while also increasing you more agency in dodging skillshots and CCs.
Ghost comes with a terrible drawback which is TP pressure and inability to recover from early ganks if you die. I recommend taking this if you're sure you can win, abuse minion waves and know recall times.

New Runes Back to Top

Precision Tree: Conqueror

Your typical Darius rune page. Your 13003d6fa9393a112.png?width=32 keystone allows you to melt tanks and bruisers alike, gives you extra AD and deals 20% true damage, which procs on your bleed too. Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph's healing capability will help you survive the skirmishes and teamfights, since you are going to 1v3 most of the time AND you will be the main focus of the enemy team. The other two options in the same tier as Triumph are Overheal.png?width=32 Overheal and Presence%20of%20Mind.png?width=32 Presence of Mind. The Overheal.png?width=32 former will lose effectiveness after the first four levels, and the Presence%20of%20Mind.png?width=32 latter gives mana and refunds some ultimate CDR on takedowns. The extra mana is nice but you will not make use of the CDR, since you get resets and at level 16 you can potentially have the ultimate available at all times.
In the second rune tier you have two options based on who you are facing. Legend%20Alacrity.png?width=32 Legend: Alacrity will increase your attack speed until it caps to 18% and will thus increase your DPS and dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png W speed. Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend: Tenacity is picked whenever you don't want to build 3111.png Mercury's Treads or if you want to get 52% tenacity.
In my opinion and experience, early game against slows and stuns toplane deserve to be addressed with Legend: Tenacity because it starts out with 5% and you will ramp it up to 10% by 5-6 minutes as long as you can either last hit 40 creeps or get 1 kill and 20 creeps, and it will allow you to get your tabis early on if there is need to.
Last but not least, Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 Coup de Grace against squishies or champions you know will not deal too much damage to you, and Last%20Stand.png?width=32 Last Stand against bruisers like Jax, Irelia or Fiora which will bring you down to at least 10-15% of you hp during an all-in.
As stated above for the Legends category, those two are the best options Darius has to pick, for Cut%20Down.png?width=32 Cut Down will not really matter much after the laning phase since you will either dunk for 1000 true damage or die horribly, while CDG and LS will help you better even after the mid-game.

If you are using precision as secondary tree, your best options are Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph and Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 Coup de Grace, but feel free to experiment with the Legends Runes and Last Stand as well!
231.png

Sorcery Tree: Phase Rush

Apparently the most used by high elo players in Korea. Your Phase%20Rush.png?width=32 keystone will give you lots of slow protection and a huge boost of movement speed, offering sticking power against champions like Kennen or Jayce (whenever they are played tbh). A/N - AT THE MOMENT LOLKING ISN'T UPDATED WITH NIMBUS CLOAK, SO I PICKED ULTIMATE HAT SINCE THE NEW RUNE GOES THERE. I WILL UPDATE IT WHEN THE UPDATE HITS. The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32 Nimbus Cloak is one rune I wish they put in precision sometimes, so that I could abuse it with conqueror. Upon ulting, it gives you 100 movement speed, and assuming you procced Phase Rush in the last 0.75 seconds, you are gonna run really fast to the next unfortunate soul. A great rune that you should always take if you are going sorcery. Celerity.png?width=32 Celerity, even after 8.12 nerfs, it is gonna be better than the other options, since you do not really need Transcendence.png?width=32 CDR and Absolute%20Focus.png?width=32 Absolute Focus does not synergize with your champion. Now it becomes interesting, because Darius can potentially go each rune in this tier. Scorch is early magic damage, and even though is preferred in poke lanes, Darius can use this decently when he wants to deal damage with his dariuscleave.png Q. Remember that neither dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png W or dariusaxegrabcone.png E will proc it. Waterwalking.png?width=32 Waterwalking is probably the best Darius could want because you can roam pretty well with it early on, since it gives 25 MS in the river, and help your jungle secure the majestic dot-pattern.png Scuttle Crab, also top to mid roams will be better. Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32 Gathering Storm used to be the best one before jungle changes, and it takes 10 minutes before it actually goes online, and even then it is pretty lackluster. Take this in games that you assume will go over 30 minutes.

If you are using sorcery as secondary tree, your best options are The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32 Nimbus Cloak and Celerity.png?width=32 Celerity, but feel free to experiment since Waterwalking.png?width=32 Waterwalking could be more useful early than Celerity, assuming your jungle will contest scuttles a lot.

231.pngResolve Tree: Aftershock

Just like that horrible time when 6262.png Courage of the Colossus was introduced which brought to Darius' nerfs, you can abuse its relative Aftershock.png?width=32 Aftershock for more or less the same survivability. As much as I liked 6261.png Grasp of the Undying before Runes Reforged, I think current Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32 Grasp of the Undying does not feel as good as it used to be, which brings me to say that you should avoid it, for you do not really need the sustain in lane if you play good enough. The Aftershock.png?width=32 keystone I picked for the resolve page gives you 2.5 seconds window where you virtually cannot die in any trade you take up in the toplane, and good lord if the enemy jungle ganks you and you can proc it, that is at least a double flash or a double kill. It comes with the drawback of being an immobile ball of stats with no extra damage to tanky enemies and forces you into a 3071.png Black Cleaver buildpath in case you are facing even one tank. In this current state of the game, taking Bone%20Plating.png?width=32 Bone Plating gives you even more survivability and it is really the best option for anyone who opts into resolve, since it reduces damage for the next three hits, spells included.  Font%20of%20Life.png?width=32Font of Life is really useless on you and Demolish.png?width=32 Demolish could be a good choice too, but Bone Plating is just that good. Next up we have 5abd57da0f30230001f3edd9?width=32 Chrysalis, which suits Darius needs best for it gives 50HP and after 4 takedowns, a.k.a. kills or assists, you get 9 AD. The HP is good because you will always try and ALL-IN the enemy laner, and the extra AD is quite nice, though lots of people would rather keep the HP.  Second%20Wind.png?width=32Second Wind into poke, ranged lanes and 17.png Teemo will provide you with quite the sustain if in combination with 1054.png Doran's Shield. Conditioning.png?width=32 Conditioning takes 10 minutes to ramp up and if you play Darius correctly you will not need the extra tankiness for you will have already won or two items with tabis, but hey feel free to take it if you really like this rune, it is a long ways from being bad! Revitalize.png?width=32 Revitalize is the best option of the tree, for it will increase your heals by 5% and it will increase to 10% if you're below 40% hp, and that will happen a lot. No reason to take Overgrowth.png?width=32 Overgrowth because it gives you little HP and needs time to scale, and Perseverance.png?width=32 Unflinching is not really worth taking, even if the extra tenacity will not be calculated multiplicatively but it will add up to your pre-existent tenacity.

If you are taking resolve as secondary tree, the best options are Bone%20Plating.png?width=32 Bone Plating and either 5abd57da0f30230001f3edd9?width=32 Chrysalis or Second%20Wind.png?width=32Second Wind. Everything else is literally bad.

Abilities

Darius abilities only deal physical damage.

dariuspassive.png Innate - Hemorrage: every auto attack, outer Q and R applies one stack of hemorrage, up until five stacks, making the target bleed for 5 seconds dealing from 13 to 30 + 30% Bonus AD per stack every 1.25 seconds, up to 65 to 150 + 150% bonus AD at 5 stacks. Reaching 5 stacks of hemorrage will proc dariuspassive.png Noxian Might.
179.png
dariuscleave.png Q - Decimate is your main source of damage and sustain, and it is split into two zones: the outer Q (blade) and the inner Q (shaft). Before you start spinning, there is a delay of 0.75 seconds and it allows you to reposition yourself in order to maximize the damage you are going to deal. The blade is going to deal damage, apply a hemorrage stack and heal you for 12% of your max HP, scaling to 36% if you manage to hit at least three enemies. Hitting five enemies will not exceed the 36% heal cap. The shaft will deal 35% of the damage of the blade, and it will not apply heal and hemorrage stack. Maxing this first is the best option for its damage scales up to 140% of your AD, on top of your base damage at level 5. Heal and hemorrage stack are not increased by levelling and full benefits are available from level 1.
179.png
dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png W - Crippling Blow enchances your next auto attack and it makes it deal damage up to 160% of your AD. In a poor's man words: your auto now deals more damage. Using W resets your auto attack and lets you attack again almost instantly, just like Jax's W does for example. This ability procs sheen's passive. Now many know that using W gives Darius bonus attack range (200 in total, his base range is 175) and applies a 90% slow on the enemy for 1 second. I max this for last because it is really just a way to catch your laner without wasting your E, and the extra damage you get at level 5 is worse than level 5 E.
179.png
dariusaxegrabcone.png E - Apprehend is your only tool to give that champion that is kiting you an intimate 5 minutes with yours truly. This ability pulls the enemies in front of you close to you, and slows them by 40% for 1 second. Passively, it gives you armor penetration up to 30%. Practice this ability without smartcast and switch it on when you get the hang of it: the difference between having it always ready without the need for aiming far outclasses the extra half-second you need if you have to check if it is gonna work or not. Max this after Q because the armor penetration and CDR is way too nice to give up.
179.png
dariuspassive.png Passive - Noxian Might is a self-buff Darius gets after he makes an enemy bleed with 5 hemorrage stacks, or when Darius executes (kills) an enemy with his ultimate. It gives Darius BONUS AD (level 1 is 30AD, level 18 is 230AD) which is really important because it allows your ultimate to deal even more damage, and it makes so that every auto and ability that would apply one stack of hemorrage, will instead apply 5 of them, thus refreshing the passive. It lasts 5 seconds from the last time you applied your 5 stacks.

127.jpg
dariusexecute.png R - Noxian Guillotine is Darius' ultimate, and scales with BONUS AD, not total AD. Huge difference. After leaping in the air for a brief time, 0.25 seconds according to the wiki, Darius will deal true damage to the targeted enemy, damaged amplified by each stack of hemorrage. Darius cannot be interrupted by CCs while in the air. If Darius successfully kills the enemy, he either gets dariuspassive.png Noxian Might or refreshes it if it was already active, and it is possible to cast the ultimate again for the next 20 seconds before it goes on cooldown. If you kill another opponent with the second cast, you can re-cast again, and again and again, until you eventually pentadunk the opposing team. At level 16, your ultimate's cooldown is instead refunded on kill with no time limit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: there is a small window of time, around 0.5 seconds, where you can still get dariuspassive.png Noxian Might and a ult reset even if you do not execute the target with dariusexecute.png Noxian Guillotine. Keep this in mind when reading about the next paragraphs.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: In a 1v1 situation is better to use your ultimate to chunk down the enemy instead of acting cool and keep it for the execute. In 1v2s, 1v3s and so on, it is better to dunk the main source of damage and kill him immediately after with your empowered W than try and execute him/her. You still deal damage with your other abilities.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Best start - Shield gives you 80 HP and sustain and gives you +5 damage against minions.
I tried so many times, but this item is not a good purchase anymore. I highly discourage buying it.

Core Items

    Buy into tanks.
Good against bruisers and squishies alike.
Best buy after your damage item(s).

Situational Items

Black Cleaver path includes these items. Build Armor or MRes accordingly. Righteous Glory highly recommended.
Best MRes item you could ever buy, since it increases your healings.
Adaptive Helm is good into DOTS and Kai'sa.
Great third/fourth item. Anti-burst and synergy with your bonus ad scalings.
If they lack crit users... Build this.
Guardian Angel is good when ahead or when you do not want to die, Death's Dance helps you survive burst.

IN-DEPHT ITEM EXPLAINATION

Starting Items

Corrupting Potion is bad, change my mind
Take Doran's Shield and have a good time

1054.png Doran's Shield got buffed last season and it is really the best someone like Darius could use. Innate sustain, resistance to poke laners and extra damage on last hits have made this item my go-to in every situation, since it helps you recover from ganks where you get chunked down to 40-50% hp, and lets you survive all-ins long enough to force a flash out of the enemy laner or even killing him/her.
1055.png Doran's Blade gives you HP and lifesteal, it has good potential against Fioras, Jaxes and Irelias in combination with Doran's Shield since it gives 8 AD, 80 more HP on top of Shield for a total of 160 HP, and 3% lifesteal, which is roughly 2.4 HP back per auto and 3.3 HP if dariuspassive.png Noxian Might is activated, and 3.6 if both dariuspassive.png Noxian Might and 13003d6fa9393a112.png?width=32 Conqueror are active. Every auto adds up, and even if the lifesteal does not seem much, it could potentially mean the difference between life and death.
I suggest you buy both Dorans if you both are forced to back early and you do not have enough gold to buy important items like 3047.png Ninja Tabis or 3044.png Phage.

785.jpgBoots

Should I wear Air Noxus?

Let's start with boots. I started rushing boots every game instead of phage because they actually feel better than Phage rush, but like anything in life it comes down to preference.
3047.png Ninja Tabis are your go-to every game if you picked Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend: Tenacity, since you do not need more of it and most of the time you are going to need armor and basic attack damage reduction.
3111.png Mercury's Treads are necessary when you play against CC-heavy comps, even combined with Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend: Tenacity if you must since they both give you a grand total of 52% tenacity. The extra magic resistance is an added extra.
3009.png Boots of Swiftness are nice if you really like being fast as fuck (A/N - boii) and ignore slows, but you trade +10 MS for no resistances, so weight your options carefully if you consider this item. Tabis, sadly, does it better.
785.jpg

Road to your first item

Do I build Black Cleaver or Trinity Force?
Is it better to rush Tabis or Phage?

I would rush Tabis over Phage any game unless I was against a clueless player. Even then, it is a match between small bursts of movement speed versus permanent movement speed.
After boots, 3044.png Phage is your go-to item and should always be prioritized unless you are against specific match-ups where you need to wait out and outscale. You can find those match-ups in the apposite section. This item gives you HP and AD, things Darius really likes, and on top of that you gain a passive where upon auto attacking a unit or champion, you gain 20 flat movement speed. Upon killing, 60. Really useful in combination to boots to punish people that walk up to CS while you are standing there, threatening.

You have two options now:
  • 3071.png Build Black Cleaver when you want to deal with super tanky opponents, like Ornn, Malphite, Maokai, Rammus, Mundo, etc. This item synergizes well with your bleed, since just one stack of hemorrage will apply all the stacks of armor shred (24% armor shred at 6 stacks). The movement speed buff requirement is also changed: now you can Q the wave and proc the movement speed, no need to auto attack anymore. Really useful to chase down people.
  • 3078.png Trinity Force is good against squishies or champions that do not build much armor. This item is built to maximize the damage with the W, since activating it will proc TF's passive and deal hige amounts of damage. You still MAX E second, though. The movement speed requirement does not change here, you still need to auto attack to proc it.
Now that you made your choice, we can keep going.785.jpg

Building what you need to survive

Detailed info on both tank and bruiser items (only after 8.12)

3800.png Righetous Glory - definitely the best item you could ever want. On active you gain huge movement speed boost given you are charging against an enemy. Since you are Darius and you win every close combat you engage on, this item provides you with what the champion lacks: mobility. The slow that ends the movement speed boost is even better, guaranteeing a W or if they flash away, an E. It gives decent armor and HP for being a second or third item.

3053.png Sterak's Gage - Upon taking enough damage, this item gives a big ass shield equal to 75% of your bonus HP, decaying after 0.75 seconds. This effect is called Lifeline and it is shared with Maw of Malmortious. When Lifeline triggers, you gain another buff called Sterak's Fury, which grants 30% tenacity. The passive portion of this item is nice, but what you really like about it is that you gain half of your base AD as BONUS AD, enhancing your ultimate even more.

3076.png Bramble Vest - Gives you 35 armor, and enemies attacking you get Grevious Wounds for 1 second plus some damage. You usually want to rush this item against auto attackers like Jax and Fiora. Especially Fiora. Lowkey good against Akali, check her match-up section for more info.

3143.png Randuin's Omen - Really good item against crit users, and enemies attacking you have reduced attack speed. The active portion of this item slows enemies hit by the shockwave and lets you catch them. With crit adcs being bad these days, and games not lasting long enough for them to ramp up, I find myself building other armor options. Whenever they will come back though, this item will immediately come back into my inventory.

3742.png Dead Man's Plate - DMD never really appealed me after Randuin's got better, and even the added MS is not good enough for me. I build it when I am against full AD comps and I have run out of options. I am still testing this item now that crit users are gone, I will update when I get enough data.

3193.png Gargoyle Stoneplate - While this item was theorized to help you get 5 stacks without getting blown up, since its damage reduction drawback does not affect your ultimate since it is true damage, I think there are better items for Darius. Feel free to experiment with it if you want to.

3065.png Spirit Visage - Best magic resistance item for Darius. Gives good HP, good mres, and the passive enhances all healings, including self-heals. I do not see myself rushing Adaptive Helm over this, even if I have to. Helm will wait, just like they did with Gandalf.

3194.png Adaptive Helm -  I buy this after Visage when I am up against Cassiopeia, Ryze, Rumble and Kai'sa, Vladimir, etc. AP spam users are doomed if you build this.

3026.png Guardian's Angel - After 8.11 buffs, this item is just too good. Extra armor added made it my go-to if games last long enough to reach third-fourth item. It gives 45AD and 40 armor, and builds out of a 1031.png Chain Vest, which is a nice item in case you need to sit on it.

3812.png Death's Dance - Prevents bursts but be careful since you are going to suffer the true damage dot, which might kill you if you cannot heal back.

"You got one early kill? Too bad, she can still outskill you"

Laning Phase

1054.png Doran's Shield is mandatory against Akali, she will Q you when she can and you need to survive her poke for at least 3 levels. You actually win from level 1 to 5, but she will have an edge at level 6 if you did not itemize correctly. 3211.png Spectre's Cowl rush will allow you to survive both poke and all-in at level 6. If you can bait out her akalismokebomb.png shroud, you can all-in her and you will most certainly burn a flash or kill her. After you are done rushing Spectre, go Phage into Trinity Force.
179.png
After the laning phase

During the course of the game, you will always be on even grounds as long as you can cut down her healing, and 3076.png Bramble Vest will come in handy here. 3194.png Adaptive Helm is yet another good item on top of 3065.png Spirit Visage. You do not need more MRes so you can freely opt into 3047.png Ninja Tabi to deal with an eventual fed ADC or AD mid. Respect her burst with 3146.png Gunblade and if she has 14.png Ignite, it is better to group later into the game than splitting, because her kill potential is still pretty high.
179.png
  • Respect her Q poke in lane by taking the correct runes and items.
  • Respect her level 6 by itemizing correctly.
  • If her shroud is down you are free to engage.
  • She will always look for a pick on your carries, be their bodyguard.

"The trick is to be quick and clever"

Camille is a nice skill match-up in the early stages of the game and the longer the game goes on, the harder she is to kill.
179.png
Laning phase

Respect her level 2 potential and play mirroring her positioning, she can only jump so far and being in the opposite side of the wall she can camillee.png hook onto will give you a huge advantage. Be mindful of the enemy jungle position when you are "forced" near the river.
From level 3 until she gets Tri-gage (Trinity Force + Sterak's) you have a huge advantage over her, simply because she has to come to you and not viceversa. In a 1v1 situation, where she engages on you after she successfully poked you down, you have a shot at winning everytime UNLESS she uses her camiller.png ultimate to avoid your dariuscleave.png Q.
She will trade using camillew.png W, when you see her trying either fake walking towards her then immediately walk back, so that she misses her heal portion of the blade, or straight up walk up to her, dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png W with the extra range and force her to use her camillee.png E. You can also dariusaxegrabcone.png apprehend her when she is trying to camillee.png stun you or when she camillee.png hooks the wall, preventing her from escaping and forcing a flash or killing her. Whenever this happens, keep your dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png W available for when she uses her camilleq.png Q, since she gets a burst of movement speed.
179.pngAfter laning phase

Camille gets stronger with items, and after a certain point you straight up lose if she hits her camillee.png stun. If you are forced into a 1v1 against her, time your dariuscleave.png heals and dariusnoxiantacticsonh.pngdariusaxegrabcone.png slows, and either dodge or use dariusaxegrabcone.png apprehend to avoid her camillee.png stun.
In a teamfight, she will try to camiller.png isolate one of your teammates from the team. Prevent that from happening with your dariusaxegrabcone.png E and burst her down with your teammates.
You should never get to a point where Camille is relevant if you smashed her in laning phase, so try and end the game A.S.A.P. by forcing objectives with your lead.

"Tell me, can stone bleed?"

Laning Phase
Galio, like any other tank, is really easy to play against given you dodge his galioq.png Q - Winds of War and avoid getting chunked down by his galioe.png E - Justice Punch, galioq.png Q, auto-attack trade. He will then wait until your slows are gone (he is pretty tanky with  Aftershock.png?width=32aftershock active) and will galiow.png W - Shield of Durand to slow and taunt you, so he can get away. Contest every single CS, deny him the possibility to autoattack minions and watch him autolose as soon as he uses his mana up to get some gold from creeps. After he is out of mana, stay in front of the wave and go for the kill if he walks up, but be mindful of ganks.
179.png
After laning phase
Tank matchups bring utility more than damage, and provided you played lane correctly you should be able to split easily and absorb pressure while doing so. Back off if said tank is engaging you if you are not tanky enough to win a 1v2, 1v3 and so on, and engage if you can. Galio will try and be present in teamfights with his galior.png ultimate, and can engage on priority targets by charging up his galiow.png W and 4.png flashing.
