Summoner Spells Back to Top

With TP being nerfed and the meta being changed, Diana top is harder to pull off. You can't do a camp level one and get these juicy health and mana pots to survive the lane. Nevertheless i still think Flash TP is the only option for her because she has no pressure early and gets beaten by every meta toplaner. It will help you TP back, once you are forced to recall, and lose only a small amount of XP and gold.

Sklilling E level 1 is good. It gives you a solid shield and AOE damage good for farming safely without getting punished hard by your enemy. I Max Q first because it gives you the ability to farm and poke early. Its mana cost are also the same at every Level. The W second because of the shield and dmg. You can skill the E at Level 3 when you can cancel an important spell of the enemy. For example against Riven, you can cancel her 3rd Q, which can turn a fight and deny her from escaping. But keep in mind that the E costs a lot of mana and shouldn't be used so often.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Dorans and 2 pots are pretty standard. However, laning is much harder than before since you can't do a camp level 1 and there are no mana pots anymore. You have to manage your mana very consciously.
That's an option but i wouldn't recommend it since there are no mana pots anymore. You would usually go 3 health pots and 2 mana pots but without mana pots or manareg Diana is pretty much left in the dust.
That's an option against poke champs like Quinn or other ranged annoying champs.

Core Items

This should be your goal against an AD opponent. The second Dorans can be skipped against a strong champ, because the earlier you get the seekers the earlier you can start stacking it. If you feel like you can farm savely without dying just get a second dorans before you get the seekers, it gives you some nice stats. The reason i dont build into Zhonyas immediately after is because a stacked seekers gives you enough stats against an AD opponent.
This should be your goal against an AP champ. If you have alot of trouble laning against something like Rumlbe or other AP matchups, skip the second dorans and go for Negatron Cloak first. If you are ahead or feel like you dont need the MR early, you can go for a second Dorans and then look forward to buying a Blasting Wand. And then complete the Abyssal. This item is extremely good against AP Champs.
My second item is mostly Nashors Tooth(not considering boots). The reason is that i split a lot lately. People say Nahors sucks on her in teamfights but in my opinion even then it's very useful since her passive is a very big dmg source and you can use your abilities more often. What boots you buy depends on the game. If the enemy has a lot of cc buy mercs, if they have many squishies go for sorc, if you want the cdr go for ionian.
Against AD i usually go Nashors after getting seekers. The reason i don't upgrade it to zhonya's is that it's just too expensive. The armor seekers gives is enough for the moment.
My final build looks like this in 90% of my games. But in some games you have to adapt to the enemy teamcomp. For example if the enemy has not much AP dmg you dont buy Abyssal.
Boots are very dependent on the current game. Against much hard CC you wanna buy mercs. Against many squishy champs sorc is very nice. Ionan is good when you want to have that CDR on your abilities and spells. I also go Ionian when i have the gold for it.

VS

Darius

Medium

Someone requested me to add more matchups about the juggernauts. Even tho i haven't played against any juggernaut as Diana cause of inactivity recently, i will try to put some overall info about the matchup.

Mid-Hard

Bruiser overall are really strong against Diana. Darius especially has a lot of damage over time and tankiness. As i said i haven't played against Darius yet but i would try to trade early and use W properly by blocking his Q DMG. If you get your passive and Q off you probably will win the trade. If you realize he wins the trades, you don't want to fight him more. Just make him push the lane by pretending to walk up and wait for your jungler to gank. He is extremely vulnerable to ganks. If he pushes really hard into your tower you can carefully trade him since you wont get punished hard if you are close enough to your tower. That's why no one plays Assassins Top. They are really weak against tanks/offtanks. Just farm with your Q, rush seekers and stack it. When you get level 6 look for an opportunity to TP bot since Diana roams are good if you do it right.

VS

Garen

Medium

Someone requested me to add more matchups about the juggernauts. Even tho i haven't played against any juggernaut as Diana cause of inactivity recently, i will try to put some overall info about the matchup.

Medium

I think Garen is one of the Juggernauts you don't need to fear that much, since he doesn't have cc to lock you down. You should still be careful tho. As much as i know he deals much more damage now. You probably can trade with him if you manage to use your shield before getting silenced. If you cannot, just farm with your Q rush seekers and stack it. Try to TP bot if you find an opening.

VS

Gnar

Medium

Easy-Medium.

Diana is actually decent-strong against Gnar. Dianas w and q allows her to farm. Gnar will most like not come in melee range so you just farm until you get 2 Dorans + seekers. After stacking seekers you will be able to fight him easily. His Auto attack range isn't that high to farm from very behind, so either he uses his q to farm or gets closer where you can throw a Q followed by your R. Keep in mind that you can interrupt his jump with your E. Don't fight him when he is about to get mega Gnar. And follow the usual build path described in the *Items* section against AD.

VS

Irelia

Medium

CLASSIC. Medium-Hard Matchup

Early in this matchup you have the upper hand. The attack speed reds and your w gives you the ability to trade really well early against Irelia. If she maxes her w, she will start hurting a lot, so you have to watch out for that. That's around level 4-5 when she has 2-3 points into w. At this point you should not underestimate her dmg, because it can end really badly if she gets a kill this time around. Anyway, if she maxes e for some reason, you will probably be able to trade her until she gets her ult and sheen. When she gets her sheen and ult, you probably will get oneshot if you dare to get near her. AVOID to get stunned and only use your q to farm. Quick TIP: You can see if her W is up or not buy clicking on her an and watching the top left side if there is the w icon or not.

ITEMS: Against Irelia i usually buy 1 Dorans. 2 Dorans would be really good against her because health counters true dmg. But i try to avoid spending too much gold on dorans in hard matchups because i will need it to get my core items as early as possible. My first item after the dorans is mostly seekers. Its passive makes it a really good item to buy early against ad. Then you focus on stacking your seekers. This might surprise you but go for the rylais next. i buy a Giants Belt right after the seekers and then go for the rylais straight. The rylais gives you the ability to survive the lane and even trade with her once you completed your rylais. Its an exception since Irelia is a true damage dealing champion but thats not the only reason. Rylais is overall an underrated item especially after the buffs. It now gives 100 AP which is as much as a ludens and the other changes on it are good too.

My Build Path against Irelia is the following:

VS

Malphite

Medium

Another boring lane... Medium.

You have the upper hand in this matchup in the early levels. He cant push as hard as you can. He wont deal damage if you time your shield right. So what you do against this kind of Champions? Push hard and make him use all of his mana to farm under turret and still miss tons of minions. BUT be careful. Junglers like to gank a Diana especially when she pushes hard like this. Keep your lane warded and stop pushing if you dont know where the jungler is.

VS

Maokai

Medium

That Tree. Medium.

Its actually annoying and boring to play against Maokai. He will just sustain, tank and deal decent amount of dmg. Your goal is to farm up. Buy 2 Dorans and go for Abyssal. Don't underestimate his dmg. It happened to me a lot, that i wanted to fight him and end up dying. If you feel like you can fight him, try it but back up as soon as you realize, that you are loosing. At level 6 with abyssal you should be able to fight him. But as i said. Don't underestimate him. You don't have to fight, you can just farm and do your stuff mid-late game in team fights and stuff.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

Such an ANNOYING champ. Medium.

Although he is a very strong laner, Diana is decent against him. Just be careful early and don't get cheesed by underestimating his damage. You also will be the target by morst smart jungler since as Diana you don't have any escapes and Nautilus has the ability to lock you down with his endless hard CC. You have 2 options: First option You fight him from the beginning with the goal to win trades but in such matchups you are exceptionally mana hungry since your abilities barely do damage so you buy 3 Dorans which delays your Abyssal. Second option is to just farm safely with 2 Dorans and focus on getting Abyssal ASAP and fight him afterwards. I personally recommend the second option because 3 Dorans delays your Abyssal and playing aggressively early will draw the attention of the enemy jungler. Once you get Abyssal you can win trades more easily if you both are even in gold and experience.

VS

Riven

Hard

Riven Players man... Hard Matchup if the Riven knows how to play.

Against Riven you only have the first 2 levels to trade freely. After Riven gets her 3 Skills, a good Riven will be able to do dmg without taking any dmg. Your goal is to make her waste at least 2 of her Q's or e to gapclose. You can do it by pretending to walk up to her and walk back immediately after. She will mostlikely see this as an oportunity and try to trade. Its all about mind games trust me. If she uses 2-3 gapcloser, you will most likely win or go even. Some other usefull tips: You can cancel her 3rd Q with your e. Its not easy but you can get used to it. Another tip is !DONT! youse ANY of your spells on her shield. I see it so often, that people use their main damage on my shield when i play riven. Its really easy to avoid especially after the nerfs. The only thing you can use while she has her shield is an autoattack to stack your passive. It is also important what runes riven has and what item she buy. Check the rivens MR when she has 30, she has cooldown reduction. Thats good news. Its also important what first item she buys. A hexdrinker rush is a nightmare for Diana. It forces you to play more passive since Hexdrinker is really good against burst champs.

ITEMS:

The same as Irelia basically. I skip the second doran and go straight for seekers. Then it depends on how the lane is going. If you feel weak, go for rylais by starting with Giants Belt, since it will help you surviving the lane and still turn into a really good item. If the lane is going even or well and you feel like you can deal with her damage, go straight for damage.

About Me Back to Top

Hi I am Thé Exiled One playing on EUW. I was a Riven one trick until i discovered Diana. I played her in normals and started liking her a lot. After playing tons of games with her, I decided to create a new account(Thé Exiled Three) and get it to master by playing Diana only. I got it to Master with an incredible Win-Rate of 80% after 130~ games overall in Season 5. After reaching like 150~ LP in Master i started losing a lot more games because i was not used to play Diana in high elo games.

I have 3 Accounts.

Thé Exiled One, Thé Exiled Two and Thé Exiled Three. All of these are master and on the last one i played diana almost only.

English is my 3rd language so u probably will find alot of grammatical mistakes. Im still working on it!!

About Matchups Back to Top

There are some standard things i don't want to write in every single matchup over and over again, so check this out.

  • Pushing. Diana is really good at pushing and its really important in some matchups to keep the lane pushed. Against ranged mages like lulu for example. If you let her push, she will make you miss alot of minions and poke you to death at the same time. If you push, she will use mana to get minions and lose minions while you get them all. But its not as easy as it sounds. You need the knowledge of how to control a lane. Some tips: Don't tunnel on pushing the lane. Usually the W and the Pots you get after doing the camp are enough to push and keep your health up but sometimes i tunnel too and find myself at 10% HP because of underestimating the enemy damage, so take care of that. Once the enemy is out of mana or you get enough resistance(in this case Negatron), you will have a much easier time pushing. You should also keep in mind, that you put yourself in a really vulnerable spot to the jungler when you push hard. Keep your lane warded and don't walk up too far to the enemy tower.
  • Building. Building the right way is also important. I will tell you what to build in the particular matchups but i will tell you some important things overall when building items. For example against an AD opponent i tell you to build seekers first, which is right BUT in some cases when I realize that my enemy lets say a riven doesn't know how to play right, i build a Large Rod after first back. The idea behind this is to snowball. Its kind of risky but pays of really hard. Don't do this if you don't know if you are able to abuse the enemies mistake because if you fail and die to a riven, you are going to have trouble without any armor. The same goes to magic resist. When i lane against a lissandra for example and have 1k gold i decide by thinking about my potential in this matchup. If the lane goes even and i see the potential of killing her, i buy a blasting wand, since it gives you the ability to oneshot a squishy lissandra at level 6. When I play against a good lissandra who knows how the matchup works, i go straight for a negatron to secure the lane. Even tho you deal much less damage with negatron, you will still be able to kill the lissandra over time if you play right. After getting Abyssal, you will dominate her, since its a really good item on Diana against AP. I recommend to build a second Dorans after first back since it gives you really good and important stats early on.

Teamfights Back to Top

Teamfights are one of the most important parts in League. If not the most important. Diana is fairly good at teamfighting but its really important to make the best decision possible. How you make the decision depends on some factors you have to think about before doing something wrong and lose you team the teamfight or even the game.

Some questions are: Can i burst one of the carries from 100 to 0? If yes, do they have a good peeling team which can prevent me of doing it? If the answer is no, your job is to murder the enemy carry. This obviously wont always work. The Carry can have escapes, flashes, heal ect. If you are weak or the enemy has the ability to keep their carries alive, your job is to protect your fed carry and melt the enemy frontline with him. U also cant afford to be in a spot where u take free damage by there carries. Its not easy to explain everything about teamfighting shortly, because there are so many possibilities. Its a matter of experience. At some point you will be able to calculate in your head what your potential is.
