4.png - Early escape and engage tool, allows you to (E)dianaE.png + 4.png, catching your opponent off-guard. Ignoring the obvious fact flash can get you over select few walls the key to remember is that it's instant. That means not only can you avoid danger but you can cause mayhem and wreak havoc to your foes. Putting this as simply as possible - flash can allow you to INSTANTLY close the gap and land abilities that you could otherwise not have been able to land. Advanced: Flash can also be used to input buffer her (R) dianaR.png.

11.png - Regardless of her amazing clears, she still needs smite for objective control and pressure. This summoner spell grants you access to the jungle items which are needed to be potent in the jungle. Smiting the jungle camps grant unique buffs that can really be useful:
  • Gromp : Grants "Gift of the toadstool," poisoning enemies who attack you with magic damage over time.
  • Crimson Raptor : Grants "Razor Sharp," giving you a warning and Magical Sight (can spot invisible units) when an enemy ward spots you.
  • Greater Murkwolves : Summons a Rift Spirit that watches over a portion of the jungle, giving vision to your team.
  • Krugs : Grants "Gift of the Heavy Hands," stunning minions and monsters you strike and doing bonus true damage vs turrets (this consumes the buff).
  • Red Rumbleback : Restores 20% of your maximum health instantly.
  • Blue Sentinel : Restores 25% of your maximum mana over 2 seconds.

Safe Jungling

Cunning:

savagery.png(Savagery)(5/5) A must for jungling, allows you to cleave your way through the jungle with ease. Although it doesn't apply to any of her basic abilities. It's mainly used for auto attack based champions or melees.
runic-affinity.png(Runic Affinity)(1/1) This mastery is one of the most important for junglers as it makes neutral monster buffs last 15% longer. Applies to the following:
  •  Crest of Cinder (Red buff) will last an addition 18 seconds. | 2 Minutes and 18 seconds.|
  •  Crest of Insight (Blue Buff) will last an addition 18 seconds. | 2 Minutes and 18 seconds.|
  •  Doom Eye (Rift Hearld buff) will last an addition 18 seconds. |2 Minutes and 18 seconds.|
  •  Aspect of the Dragon (5th dragon buff) will last an additional 27 seconds. |3 Minutes and 27 seconds.|
  •  Hand of Baron (Baron buff) will last an additional 27 seconds. |3 Minutes and 27 seconds.|
  •  Crest of Crushing Wrath (Vilemaw buff) will last an addition 27 seconds. |3 Minutes and 27 seconds.|

Resolve:

recovery.png(Recovery)(5/5) Increases base regen. Helpful for early game as this can provide safe clears.
tough-skin.png(Toughskin)(1/1) Although her (W)dianaW.png keeps her healthy this still provides extra safety while jungling.
veterans-scars.png(Veteran's Scars)(5/5) Bonus 45HP lvl 1 is pretty amazing! 635HP at the beginning is some of the best base health.
insight.png(Insight)(1/1) Lowers 4.png to 255 seconds from 300. | Lowers 11.png recharge timer to 64 from 75.

You can also take a more aggressive approach, but I find that's purely situation as she does enough damage already.

Aggressive jungling
Ferocity:

fury.png(Fury)(5/5) I personally find that more attack speed is better even on dueling caster such as herself.
double-edged-sword.png(Double Edged Sword)(1/1) Seeing as she is melee this makes her burst 3% stronger, coupled with (Merciless) allows her to be a true assassin.
vampirism.png(Vampirism)(5/5) Spellvamp applies on smite, overall is the safer pick in terms of healthiness in the jungle.
bounty-hunter.png(Bounty Hunter)(1/1) Progressively makes you stronger per kill, as an assassin - this is the go-to mastery point.

dianapassive.png Passive: Moonsilver Blade

  • Moonsilver blade has a built in attack speed steroid (20% flat attack speed.)
  • Every 3rd auto-attack it procs an AoE cleave dealing 20 - 250 (based on level) (0.8 AP Ratio) magic damage centered around her.
  • Deals damage to structures INCLUDING inhibitors and nexus. Note: (You must be standing within a specific range to proc it on the inhibitors and nexus.) 
  • A huge part of why attack speed is really good on her.
  • Especially good at clearing raptors and wolves.

 dianaQ.png Q: Crescent Strike
  • Reveals non-stealthed champions for 3 seconds.
  • Applies moonlight which interacts with your ultimate.
  • Powerful poke tool, good for whittling down squishier targets.
  • Useful for checking fog of war, neutral monster camps and epic monster camps.
  • Main damaging spell that travels in an arc, passing through all units hit.
dianaW.png W: Pale Cascade
  • This ability is what allows Diana to clear the jungle efficiently while staying healthy.
  • Gives her surprising tankiness.
  • Detonating all 3 spheres doubles the shielding strength.
  • Another great tool to clear jungle camps hastily.
  • Can detonate mid-lunar rush. 
dianaE.png E: Moonfall
  • In melee range of an enemy champion use this ability right before using lunar rush to position yourself behind the target.
  • Can be used mid lunar rush to disrupt tanks while flying towards squishies.
  • Can cancel enemy auto-attacks (both champion and monster.)
  • Maximize the effectiveness of this ability by waiting until they're they've expended their gap-closers and escapes to stick onto the target. (Advanced: interrupt dashes mid-flight such as : Rengar's passive, Lee sin's Resonating Strike and Irelia's Blade Surge.)
  • Reveals stealth champions.
dianaR.png R: Lunar Rush
  • Powerful single target gap-closer that consumes moonlight, refreshing it's cooldown.
  • Targeted ability used for engaging/disengaging.
  • A versatile ability used for clearing camps faster and for making efficient ganks.
  • Lunar rush helps stick to champions with multiple dashes and blinks if used properly.
  • If your dash is interrupted for any reason, but you would have reset off moonlight, the cooldown will be refreshed just the same.

Starting Items

    ALWAYS start these items, more effective than hunters machete. Refillable potion isn't worth it's cost.
    These should be your first/second clear recall.

Core Items

    This set gives you enough burst and pen to nuke squishies, ontop of its dueling potential it gives you 30% Cooldown Reduction for extended trading.
    For a more defensive approach get these items, depending on the threat - build accordingly.

Situational Items

    If your team doesn't have a front-line nor tank.
    If your team is lacking damage or you're extremely far ahead.

Jungle item choices

1039.png: Gives you 150% base mana regen while you're in the jungle and applies DoT that heals you for 25 health over 5 seconds. Seeing as Diana has to spam her abilities this benefits her greatly.

3715.png: Applies a de-buff to enemy champions you smite causing them to deal 20% reduced damage as well as burning them with true damage and granting vision of them for 3 seconds. This is a duelists best jungle item.

3706.png: Good against hyper mobile carries or champions that have no escape mechanic.

1414.png: Baby ludens is really strong as it helps her AoE clear and gives her early burst.

Boots & Enchantments

1001.png: Standard boots - helpful item to assist in ganks and moving around the map with ease.

3020.png: Gives you more damage to enemies, usually the go-to boots however you could always experiment with what works best for you.

3158.png: Great for reaching 40% CDR as well as having flash and smite on an even lower cool-down.

3047.png / 3111.png: These are counter boots, buy them if you find yourself needing extra defense or if you're team is lacking a tank.

1313.png/1311.png: Consider buying these if you need more movement speed.

Offensive

3115.png: One of the best items on Diana there possibly is, not only does it give you magic damage on-hit but it gives you high amounts of ability power and cool-down reduction.

3089.png: Highly sought after by most mages due to its massive ability power and ability power multiplier of 35%.

3100.png: With runglaive being gone, definitely grab this item once you've picked up a few items. 

3135.png: Good against teams building high amounts of magic resistance.

2139.png: Always buy this item when you're fully built and/or split-pushing.

Defensive

3157.png: Extremely valuable with her engage based kit, primarily purchased for its unique active.

3001.png: If you have 2 or more magic damage sources on your team consider buying this item as this not only makes your tankier but allows your team to deal more damage magically.

3027.png: Good for scaling into mid-late game, consider buying this item if your team needs a healthier front-line.

2138.png: If you find that the enemy team has a lot of crowd control, don't be afraid to buy this item.

Easy
  • You can invade him post 6 or earlier (with the help of your team.)
  • You'll clear much faster than him so you can set-up to counter gank.
  • You'll out duel him in nearly every stage of the game.
  • You can (E)dianaE.png his (Q)bandagetoss.png but the stun will still apply.
  • Your (W)dianaW.png will nearly negate all of his damage early on.

Cho'Gath

Easy
  • His clears are extremely slow and remains relatively low in the jungle pre 6.
  • Use (R)dianaR.png to avoid  (Q)rupture.png.
  • Pressure/Punish his jungling after reaching level 6, as this will deny his stacks and cause him to fall behind.
  • Don't let the game go on too long otherwise he'll become quite healthy, use your passive and sheen proc to push towers.

Diana

Medium
  • Strike from the fog of war, catch her by surprise so she'll never be able to burst you before you do her.
  • (E)dianaE.png her (R)dianaR.png to mitigate her burst.

Dr. Mundo

Hard
  • He'll stay rather health in his jungle path while clearing with decent speed.
  • Attempt to snowball your lanes and consistently ward for your laners.
  • Track his every move and choose to either counter gank or gank another lane.
  • If you're unable to preform ganks, stick to farming and aim to outscale for mid-game
  • If the game lasts too long you will be unable to burst him down quickly.

Ekko

Medium
  • Think of ekko like another Diana, quick and bursty while still maintaining tankiness.
  • Use (E)dianaE.png + (R)dianaR.png to place yourself behind him when he throws his (Q)ekkoQ.png.
  • Use (R)dianaR.png to jump out of his (W)ekkoW.png but when it's down use it to go in.
  • Each time Ekko uses (E)ekkoE.png you need to throw on your (W)dianaW.png to maximize the defensive capabilities it provides.

Elise

Medium
  • Early game she can terrorize your lanes, if you have a slight level advantage aim to counter-gank.
  • So long as you avoid (E)eliseE.png you can out-trade her post lvl 4.
  • Expect to be invaded, throw some defensive wards around your first main neutral monster camp and focus on clearing.
  • I can't stress how important it is to reach level 6 ASAP, take scuttlecrabs and alert your lanes of incoming ganks while you farm.

Evelynn

Hard
  • Expect to be invaded lvl 2 - 3. Putting 2 points in (W)dianaW.png might just keep you from dying early on.
  • Use (Q)dianaQ.png to sweep for Eveylnn when approaching neutral monster camps.
  • If you're being engaged on use (E)dianaE.png  after (W)evelynnW.png to maximize escape potential.
  • Aim for late-game, you'll out-scale and out-duel her once you have a few items and level.

Fiddlesticks

Easy
  • (E)dianaE.png his (W)drain.png to cancel his channel.
  • (R)dianaR.png + (E)dianaE.png to gap-close and cancel his (R)crowstorm.png channel.
  • Aim to burst him before he can engage.
  • Invade early on after watching him use his (W)drain.png as this will leave him vulnerable.

Medium
  • Regardless of his slow jungle clears he'll be able to duel post lvl 3
  • Avoid (R)fizzmarinerdoom.png with (R)dianaR.png at any chance you get as this will cut his damage significantly.
  • (E)dianaE.png his (Q)fizzpiercingstrike.png to disrupt his dash.
  • If you're unable to (E)dianaE.png his (Q)fizzpiercingstrike.png simply (W)dianaW.png the damage.

Gragas

Easy
  • His ganks lvl 3+ are quite strong, however his clears are lack luster. Aim to counter-jungle whenever possible.
  • (E)dianaE.png his (E)gragasbodyslam.png whenever possible.
  • (R)dianaR.png his (R)gragasexplosivecask.png to avoid being knocked out of the fight.
  • You'll scale much harder in terms of damage later on.

Hecarim

Medium
  • Sticking onto him maybe prove to be difficult but can be done spacing (Q)dianaQ.png and (R)dianaR.png resets.
  • (E)dianaE.png his (E)hecarimramp.png to stop from being knocked back.
  • Early game he will out-trade you but mid-game his damage will be nothing compared.
  • Consider 1402.png to lower his AD.

Jarvan IV

Easy
  • Quite a lot of counter-play to be had here with avoiding his abilities and disrupting his dashes.
  • (E)dianaE.png his (E)jarvanivdemacianstandard.png + (Q)jarvanivdragonstrike.png to pull him from his destination.
  • Fight him whenever he is alone as with careful movements you can avoid all of his burst.
  • Your engage will prove to be better as you're able to burst and engage at the same time.

Jax

Medium
  • (E)dianaE.png his (Q)jaxleapstrike.png while walking away from his (E)jaxcounterstrike.png to avoid being stunned.
  • Avoid dueling when his (E)jaxcounterstrike.png is on.
  • Wait out his (R)jaxrelentlessassault.png as this gives him A LOT of resistances which can mitigate your bursting potential.
  • Carefully watch his 3rd auto attack passive on his (R)jaxrelentlessassault.png  combined with (W)jaxempowertwo.png. You'll want to time a well placed (W)dianaW.png to avoid taking the brunt of his burst.

Kha'Zix

Easy
  • You can counter-jungle him lvl 4+ as his clears are slow and damaging early on.
  • (E)dianaE.png his (E)khazixE.png to quickly displace him.
  • Use (E)dianaE.png to find him while he is in (R)khazixR.png.
  • Never stay alone when you're unsure of his whereabouts.
  • Carry a 2043.png.

Kindred

Hard
  • Expect to be invaded early on as she can out-duel you.
  • (E)dianaE.png her (Q)kindredQ.png to keep her close to you.
  • Catch her out and stay towards the fog of war as she can (R)kindredR.png your burst.
  • Deny as many passive stacks as possible as she scales much harder than you do.
  • Keep vision on who she marks and play around her.
  • Aim to out-level and itemize against her physical damage burst.

Lee Sin

Hard
  • He'll almost always be able to beat you unless you (E)dianaE.png his (Q)blindmonkqone.png otherwise wait until mid-late game where you out-scale.
  • The biggest advantage your kit has is the ability to stop his "Insec" combo (blindmonkqone.png +3340.png+blindmonkwone.png + blindmonkrkick.png) by Moonfalling him mid ward-hop.
  • Stay in your jungle and continuously farm.
  • Expect consistent invades.

Malphite

Medium
  • His (E)landslide.png lowers a lot of your attack speed, when he does so punish him with your abilities.
  • You can easily dodge his (R)ufslash.png by using (R)dianaR.png to jump to him mid-cast.
  • If he hits you with (Q)seismicshard.png tag him with (E)dianaE.png before he gets too far away.
  • If he is going to (R)ufslash.png you, 3157.png it or simply (W)dianaW.png if you're in no immediate danger.

Maokai

Hard
  • His (Q)maokaitrunkline.png can stop you mid- (R)dianaR.png, avoid doing so directly in front of him.
  • His (R)maokaidrain3.png lowers the damage you deal to everything that is inside his AoE, try picking off their carries before the fight begins to avoid this.
  • His (W)maokaiunstablegrowth.png can be your worst nightmare or your biggest catch, use (R)dianaR.png to position him into the bulk of your team for a singled out pick.
  • Aim to (E)dianaE.png carries out of his (R)maokaidrain3.png to assassinate them.

Master Yi

Easy
  • (E)dianaE.png his (W)meditate.png to interrupt his channel.
  • (W)dianaW.png his (Q)alphastrike.png then (E)dianaE.png to keep him close.
  • To setup your combo, throw (Q)dianaQ.png towards the target he is (Q)alphastrike.pnging.
  • You'll out burst him mid-late game, stick to the jungle until you have the items/levels to deal with him.

Nidalee

Hard
  • A counter-jungling nightmare, setup consistent vision and play around her location.
  • (E)dianaE.png her (W)bushwhack.png(pounce) as this can be interrupted and put her in an awkward position, do so to save allies.
  • You can out-duel her once her  (Q)javelintoss.png has been expended.
  • Only fight her once you have your (R)dianaR.png as this makes it easier to stick onto her.

Nocturne

Easy
  • He'll try to farm til 6, do the same. If he early ganks - counter.
  • When trying to burst him, use (E)dianaE.png to break his (W)nocturneshroudofdarkness.png before committing all your cooldowns to kill.
  • Use (R)dianaR.png to break away from his (E)nocturneunspeakablehorror.png .
  • Take scuttlecrabs to avoid him ulting your lanes for free.

Nunu

Medium
  • His (E)iceblast.png  and (R)absolutezero.png lower attack speed. Build more flat ability power as this can lower your damage significantly otherwise.
  • Use (E)dianaE.png to interrupt his (R)absolutezero.png.
  • Be wary of invades, setup some vision around the neutral monster camps you wish to take before he can do so.
  • Counter-ganking him is really simple as long as you have red buff/skirmishers saber.

Olaf

Hard
  • Not much can be said or done about him, he'll out-duel you at nearly every stage of the game and nothing in your kit can outplay him besides general burst.
  • Build 3715.png , 3157.png and 3047.png vs. him
  • Stick to your jungle and farm a level advantage.

Pantheon

Medium
  • Early game is jungling is slow, counter-gank him at every point possible.
  • (E)dianaE.png his (W)pantheon_leapbash.png to interrupt his stun. Do so to save allies.
  • If you spot him channeling (R)pantheon_grandskyfall_jump.png, a quick (R)dianaR.png + (E)dianaE.png will cancel it.
  • Dueling him early is a mistake, get lvl 6 then begin to pick fights.

Poppy

Hard
  • Her new kit can provide a difficult challenge for you to fulfill your job, avoid using (R)dianaR.png around her as she can (W)poppyparagonofdemacia.png it causing you to bounce off.
  • (E)dianaE.png her (E)poppyheroiccharge.png to stop from being stunning against a wall.
  • If she is channeling her (R)poppydiplomaticimmunity.png quickly place yourself near her and (E)dianaE.png. This should cause her to cease the action and be left without an ult for the fight.
  • Fight whenever she isn't near her carries.

Easy
  • Despite her high damage she still manages to be an easy opponent, use (E)dianaE.png as she goes to (E)quinnE.png.
  • Damaging her while she's using (R)quinnR.png will cause her to end the spell cast.
  • Use (R)dianaR.png after she has used (E)quinnE.png as this will keep you in melee range of her.
  • Each time she uses (E)quinnE.png on you, have (W)dianaW.png ready.

Rammus

Medium
  • He is extremely susceptible to counter-jungling early on.
  • Ignore him in each fight and aim to 100 - 0 his carries.
  • If you're not counter-jungling you should stick to farming, getting items early will establish a lead.
  • (E)dianaR.png him while he uses (Q)powerball.png to stop him.

Rek'Sai

Easy
  • (E)dianaE.png her (E)reksaiE.png(tunnel) to cease her movement.
  • A quick (R)dianaR.png will stop her (R)reksaiR.png
  • Farm until 6, afterwards duel whenever possible.
  • Consider 3047.png.

Rengar

Medium
  • (E)dianaE.png his  (P)rengarpassive.png(leap) to negate the damage dealt.
  • (W)dianaW.png every time he  (P)rengarpassive.png onto you.
  • Use (E)dianaE.png to reveal him after he uses (R)rengarR.png.
  • You'll be able to out-trade him post lvl 6.
  • 3715.png will be your best-friend, remember to utilize this smite.

  • She'll clear quickly and at a healthy rate, depending on what buff she starts, grab yours and watch where they're are openings for ganks and aim to counter.
  • You'll be able to duel with her as her passive only grants armor.

  • Engage on her back-line and force her to focus you.

Medium
  • Expect early invades, grab 2 points early in (W)dianaW.png as this will keep you alive from 14.png and Red buff.

  • Scout un-warded bushes with (Q)dianaQ.png.
  • Carry a 2043.png.
  • Farm until 6 and proceed to out-scale him.

Shyvana

Medium
  • (E)dianaE.png her (R)shyvanatransformcast.png will cause her to fall short of her destination.
  • Expect her to clear fast (if not faster than you.) and setup defensive wards around your overly pushed laners.
  • Duel once you have 3715.png as this will allow you to win trades.
  • Grab an 3001.png as she does primarily magic damage.

Hard
  • Duel him when his (R)skarnerimpale.png has been expended.
  • If he begins to close the distance on you throw on (W)dianaW.png to mitigate some of his damage.
  • 3111.png will help deal with his hard crowd control.
  • Itemize tankier to survive 1 vs 1 skirmishes.

  • 3715.png and 3047.png will help deal with his early game damage.
  • Avoid using (R)dianaR.png directly on him as he can (E)trundleE.png you mid-flight.
  • Farm until 6 and proceed to out-scale.
  • Itemize for more a more "duelist" approach.

Medium

  • You can counter his split pushing and ganking with ease until he gets his core items.

  • If it's (Q)udyrtigerstance.png put 2 - 3 points into (W)dianaW.png and build 3047.png.

What is Input Buffering?


In a nutshell, input buffering is queuing up an ability to be used before you actually use it.

Using a targeted ability from OUTSIDE your cast range on a visible target, and then doing something else continuously is the best example. This makes it so that as soon as that target enters into your range, your spell instantly casts.

Why is it useful?


For pure damage spells, whenever you walk towards an enemy champion, most players automatically move back out of range. However, by input buffering, you can ensure that your spell will cast as soon as they come into range.

Diana tends to be a farm based jungler (similar to 56.png,19.png,107.png) that has the ability to counter-gank. Spend a lot of the time focusing on clearing your jungle from one-side to another as you watch your lanes, if you believe that your lanes will be ganked due to their over-extending take out the nearest rift scuttler and proceed to do the nearest camps. Against invade based junglers (76.png,64.png,35.png) start on your main buff I.E red or blue, take one outer-camp before taking the other main buff. This will ensure you are healthy enough to duel them, often times when they attempt to invade they'll be level 2 - giving you the upper hand. Once you've acquired your enchanted jungle item you can solo dragon. Same thing goes for rift herald (so long as you're level 7 or higher.) Keep in mind your early game isn't that strong comparatively to other duelist, however your (W)dianaW.png makes that less of an issue and you trade dueling for clear speed.

Mid game Back to Top

Once you've achieved level 6 or higher and have your improved jungle item enchanted it's time to begin actively looking to play aggressively. After reaching level 6 your burst becomes exponentially greater than most duelist, aim to use your strength to contest/force dragon. After killing or assisting in the kill of the enemy laner use your (P)dianapassive.png in conjunction with your abilities to shove the wave and pressure the tower. Continue with aggressively farming your jungle while waiting for gank opportunities as this will keep you ahead of their jungler. Once you've established a level advantage you should consider counter-jungling so long as you have the proper vision to do so. Don't be afraid to get creative with gank pathing as Diana has a relatively easy time sticking onto champions - provided you hit your (Q)dianaQ.png you should have an ensured kill most of the time. With the addition to the dragon changes, be sure to consistently pressure dragon/scuttle as the seige/movement speed dragon will be your new best friend!

Late game Back to Top

Most of the time, depending on how hard you've snowballed your lead there isn't much of a late-game to worry about. However that isn't the case ALL the time; this will cover what you should be doing during that. Itemize against threats, what that means is that you be conscientious about your enemies and how strong they are. Always use your advantages to your benefit. If you have an established level advantage you should aim to assassinate the enemy carries or split-push. If you have an established gold lead you should itemize more heavily around what your team needs. Given you'll be around three to four items into your build you should have the ability to force engages with 3157.png. I can't stress this enough when I say you CAN be out-scaled by quite a lot of different champions/items, end the game via pushing towers or focusing dragon/herald/baron as soon as possible.
