Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash is a must-have, obviously, because Mundo has no dash or something like that. I use it for escape most of the time.

Other Summoner Spells you can run besides Flash:

12.png I take Teleport most of the time, its safe, you are faster back on lane, its good for splitpushing, roaming or diving their backline in teamfights.
14.png Ignite is a good alternative for some lane-matchups. It gives you a bit of kill-presure, but it's risky to pick because other Summoner Spells are better in the Lategame.
6.png Since Teleport got nerfed and Ghost buffed, it's now a really good option to take beside or instead of flash. Take it together with Flash against a really hard matchups like Darius to have an absolutly safe Laning phase. It is also good for escapeing or chasing. The Movementspeed together with your Ultimate is insane.

Masteries Back to Top

As for most Toplaners Grasp of the Undying as Keystone is a very good choice for Mundo too. I would recommend to take it against every meele opponent. Against ranged or very poke-heavy opponents Bond of Stone is a good alternative too. The damage reduction is very helpfull in lane and it gives you much more utility in later teamfights.

The new Mastery Courage of the Colossus you should'nt take on Mundo because he can't prog it with his slow.

drmundopassive.png Adrenaline Rush (Passive)

Dr. Mundo regenerates 0.3% of his maximum health each second.

You have more HP-regeneration. Thats it. You won't notice it until lategame

infectedcleavermissilecast.png Infected Cleaver (Q)

RANGE: 1000 / 60
SPEED: 1850
COST: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 HEALTH
COOLDOWN: 4
ACTIVE: Dr. Mundo hurls a cleaver in the target direction, dealing magic damage and Slow icon slowing by 40% for 2 seconds the first enemy it hits, and healing for half of the cost.
If the Infected Cleaver kills its target, cost is refunded. Infected Cleaver's has a minimum damage threshold, and is capped against non-champions.
  • MAGIC DAMAGE: 15 / 17.5 / 20 / 22.5 / 25% of target's current health
  • MINIMUM DAMAGE: 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280
  • MAX. NON-CHAMPION DAMAGE: 300 / 350 / 400 / 450 / 500

This is your core-ability. Use it everytime its up to either harrass your lane-opponent or for safe farming. The slow will help you to chase enemys down or kite them when you're chased.
Cleavin' all day. Just spam the hell out of it. As long as you hit or better kill something with it, you will not notice the costs at all. In fact if you kill for example a minion you will get mor HP back than you've given, because this refund counts as a kind of heal, which is increased by the Mastery Runic Armor and later by additional 25% from your Spirit Visage.

burningagony.pngBurning Agony (W)

RANGE: 162.5
COST: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 HEALTH PER SECOND
COOLDOWN: 4
TOGGLE: Dr. Mundo sets himself on fire, dealing magic damage every half-second to nearby enemies and reducing the duration of crowd control on himself.
MAGIC DAMAGE PER HALF-SECOND: 17.5 / 25 / 32.5 / 40 / 47.5 (+ 10% AP)

CROWD CONTROL REDUCTION:10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30%

This ability makes Mundo an unignorable AOE-Monster.If you can get 3151.png Liandry's Torment and 3116.png Rylai's Crystal Scepter your enemys will drop low in seconds, while not getting away from your perma-slow. But even without this Items, 100 base-damage per second just by one ability are more than enough.  Your opponents have either the choise to focus you, which will give your teammates the opportunity to take them down, or just die in front of your feet.
Dont use it for risky plays on low HP, because the life-costs are too high in the early-game. Just harrass with infectedcleavermissilecast.png Infected Cleaver to force your lane-opponent to go back, then use burningagony.png Burning Agony to push fast to the tower, go roam or base. But be aware of ganks! As mentioned Mundo has no escapes, so its important to know (or to guess) where the enemy-jungler is. The minimap is your best friend!

Once you have 3065.pngyou will regenerate fast enough to have it turned on allmost all the time. And don't forget the passive effect, when you're facing CC.

masochism.png Masochism (E)

BONUS-RANGE:  150
COST: 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 HEALTH
COOLDOWN: 6
ACTIVE: For the next 5 seconds, Dr. Mundo's next basic attack has bonus range and deals a percentage of his maximum healthas bonus physical damage.
On activation, Dr. Mundo gains bonus attack damage, increased by 1% per 1% of his missing health.
Masochism resets Dr. Mundo's autoattack timer.
PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 3 / 3.5 / 4 / 4.5 / 5% of maximum health
Minimum Bonus AD: 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 AD
Maximum Bonus AD: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 AD

This ability is Mundo's source of unexpected damage. The one buffed Autoattack is very strong in the lategame, or for lasthitting minions, but the Bonus-AD scaling with missing health, can be a big surprise for overextending opponents.
Bless the Flying Spaghetti Montser, the Doctor got buffed in 6.19. The min. damage was increased by 10 and the max. damage by 20. Also the cooldown went down by 1 second. This not seems much but it helps Mundo against many matchups he could'nt 1v1 in lane.

sadism.png Sadism (R)

COST: 20% OF CURRENT HEALTH
COOLDOWN: 100 / 85 / 70
ACTIVE: Dr. Mundo regenerates health every second for 12 seconds and gains bonus movement speed for the duration.
REGENERATION PER SECOND:3.3 / 4.2 / 5% maximum health
  • BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED: 15 / 25 / 35%

You want to be immortal, or even close to it? Then Dr. Mundo is the right champion for you. With his Ult you bring the phrase "tank" to a new level. Activate it in teamfights once you drop under half-HP. Don't use it in fight when you are too low! The costs are very high and your opponents can nuke you down easily. In this case, just go out of their reach, turn it on to escape and do a turnaround if you have regenerated enough.
Your Ult is also important for split-pushing. Allmost one can take you 1vs1 so you will force at least 2 people paying attention to you. If you drop low you can easily escape with your Ult and kite them with infectedcleavermissilecast.png if they make the mistake to chase you.
While pushing with your team, you can tank towers very long when no minions are available. You can dive for years in the lategame.

Skillorder

Because the HP-costs on W are very high at the earlygame, I go Q-E-Q and then W with level four. The two points in Q will make lasthitting very easy. After that, I max Q first for a good early poke and a safe lasthitting and then W for the AOE-damage and E last because the HP-scaling and bonus AD will be irrelevant until lategame.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

    absolute core on Mundo
    Boot Options
i take this most of the time, since it gives you 10% CDR and a ton of HP and Regeneration
Balanced high damage build, go this if you're very ahead
    against full AD teams,
against full AP teams. Take Steraks instead of Warmogs against high burst.
Full immortality build. (not in that order)

Situational Items

these items can also be usefull in special situations but i build them rarely on mundo
If you hang around with you team often instead of splitpushing, this can be a very good choice.

Core items 3068.png3065.png:

Unquestionable these are the items you go best with Mundo allmost every game. Take Sunfire Cape or Spirit Visage as first item depending on your lane-matchup, then go for the other. If the game does'nt go well for your team, go for Warmog's as third item or another tank item, when you're facing heavy AD or AP comps.

If your team is ahead you can directly go for one of these:

Items that make Mundo an AOE-Monster 3116.png3151.png:

Some people keep building Mundo full-tank and sometimes thats a viable choice if you really get behind. But when you're ahead, you give away much of his potential as fulltank. Mundo has enough sustain with his kid to survive very long, even when sourrounded by opponents. With 3116.png Rylai's Crystal Scepter and 3151.png Liandry's Torment or even one of this items you get full use of this advantage. Its not much about the AP becuase Mundos scaling is not that good, but about the effects that make these two items very viable on him.  3116.png Rylai's Crystal Sceptergives you an AOE-slow ones you reach an enemy, together with your infectedcleavermissilecast.png Infected Cleaver no one will easily escape from you. 3151.png Liandry's Torment increases your duel potential against Tanks. Adapt to the situation when you build them.

The nerf of Ryais is in fact a buff for Mundo, because it's now more affordable for a tank and you got only 20% slow anyway befor.

Full immortality build 3068.png3065.png3083.png3053.png3193.png3158.png:

This build I like to run in games where I'm the only tank and your team needs a heavy frontline for teamfights. The first three items are very usuall on Mundo but with 3053.pngSteraks Gage and 3193.png Gargoyle Stoneplate you will make your opponents cry. Your only goal with this build is to suck up as much damage as you can. Even several Ultimates can't bring you down very fast and you can sustain long traides with your Ultimate and Warmogs as well as burst trough  Steraks and GA.

Knight's Vow 3109.png:

This one isn't only for supports, in fact besides them, Mundo is probably best fitting for this one, if you're doing a lot of teamfighting. The true-damage you get from it will barely tickle you and you can recover all of it through your Ultimate. In fact, with the healing you get from your linked ally damage, gives you yet another source of sustain. I would get it around midgame after 3068.png Sunfire and 3065.png Visage and skip Warmog's for it.

Pros

+ heavy sustain
+ strong poke with Q
+ opportunity to bait with ultimate

Cons

- no CC besides slow

- weak against Champs with percentage-HP-damage (Darius, Vayne, Kog'Maw, Brand, Master Yi)
- kiteable
- pretictable (no playmaking potential)
- weak against champs that can deny his regeneration like Teemo Cassiopeia, Darius or Twitch

About me Back to Top

Hi Im theRastaDan,

im still a LoL-newbie and this is my first guide. My guides are mainly made for beginners like myself. Thats why I focus on champs I consider quit easy to play. Most of the time I play Jungle or Toplane, sometimes Support. On all positions I prefer Tank- and/or Utility-based Champions.
Dr. Mundo is the champ I've played the most games with. Of course these are still not many compared to more experienced players but anyhow I consider him as one of my main champions. He is a very solid pick against nearly any toplaner because you can poke tanks or squishys equally with your cleaver or farm very safe. Its not easy to win your lane, because your abilities dont give you much all-in-potential, but on the other hand you will rarely ever lose one.

If you play in EUW, feel free to add me, maybe we can have some fun games.

As you might noticed, English is not my native language, so please dont be mad if i've made a few mistakes. Write a comment and i will correct it.
