Masteries Back to Top

"Why did you take tenacity if he gets it capped from maxing W?"  That's why.  He doesn't get those bonuses until you max w.  I rather take that buff than +3 armor/mr during fights because you're not going to have more than 2-3 people hovering around mundo, not only that you're going to be stacked with tankiness that those won't matter.

Now you're wondering why am I taking e second...if I'm going to splitpush, sunfire and zzrot already do all the work at this point.  Maxing E second helps damage all the way up to lategame, not only that w will kill you.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Always, the main goal is to live and cs

Core Items

Depending on matchup you grab sv or sf then zzrot third. Now depending if your carries need help you buy knight's vow. I've been buying i about 80% of my games now
Just buy the standard tank items, whatever your team is in dire need of.

Situational Items

If you're insanely ahead after core items or you feel like they ignore. FYI I never usually buy these.
If your support for some reason didn't buy this you buy it as it also gives you 10% bonus to healing yourself

VS

Darius

Hard

Just like any other melee matchup, don't trade him early levels.

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

Heimer is the only problematic matchup due to low turret clear, all ranged characters you need to be careful at low levels

VS

Illaoi

Hard

Kill her before 6 or wait until midlate because you will 100% lose a 1v1, this goes for any melee against illaoi.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

Don't let him q early, just q your cs

VS

Renekton

Hard

Like darius don't trade early

VS

Ryze

Hard

He's really annoying luckily he usually is played mid but try to again just stay alive and wait for jungle

Mundo is the secret meta, hurrdurr your way to gold Back to Top

Mundo is the best champion in the game! Sustain, annoyance, tankiness, damage.  If played correctly you will have top 3 damage, most damage taken, and possible most cs gained.

Here are some pictures in order: my smurf with a 6.42 kda which proves he can carry to gold, my last ranked games in plat 3 promos with a 9-winstreak, my first time hitting plat from gold 5 in 57 games with Mundo being the only level 5 mastery as a one-trick.  I had a 71 wr up to plat 4 promos fyi, he's "broken".  This is currently what Nunu is experiencing as having too much health and doing too much work...people don't know Mundo is the best champ in the game

How to play Back to Top

My main goal with mundo early game is to live, I mean that's his whole concept with his ult.  With masteries built for sustain you should have no problem living and cs'ing fine.  For nearly all matchups I play cautiously csing when I need to with cleaver and cleavering to keep them scared.  When using your ult, don't bait it when you're low or for more e damage.  Ult costs 20% hp.  Just use it to close the gap and to get the most out of it, also to prevent yourself from dying because you thought it would heal you in time.  The only worrying thing you need to look for is if top lane took ignite or if their first item was a healing debuff item.

First know his e resets autos.

Early game

Don't trade early game, your cleaver takes 50hp level 1 and 60 hp level 2.  You're killing yourself.  First of all cleavers are not good until you level it to 2 and it becomes insane at level 3.  If you can get your opponent down to 40-50% they're dead.  Okay so you lived to level 6, but wait, level 1 ult is only going to heal for a few hundred while sacrificing 200 hp.  Don't expect your ult to heal you for a ton, and don't expect the ult to give you insane movement speed level 1.

Mid Game

As a top laner you have to make sure to use your tp effectively with your team.  By now you have 1 and 1/2 items.  You can help gank mid or you can 1v1.  Make sure that you've thrown a few cleavers.  If it's a squishy you can dive them if you're splitpushing.  They don't expect it.  Usually every time a I do this they flash and die as well.  At this point of the stage I engage alpha mode. I facecheck and run in front of them to make them use abilities since I'm tanky enough to live.

Late Game

At this point I split push and watch my tp and let my team know.  The only bad thing I don't like about mundo is that he has no hard cc so if they have hard engage it's hard for me to peel.  Other than that make sure to run in and out if you get a healing debuff.  You don't need to train your target if it's killing you.  Getting your hp back makes you a raid boss.  Even as mundo you can kill both apc and adc in a fight by annoying them that doesn't mean you should go after them because his w and sunfire can do huge damage and he can tank a lot.
