Summoner Spells Back to Top

Teleport is standard on most Top Laners, Mundo is no exception. Teleport allows you to not miss minion waves while laning Top Lane, and lets you join fights across the map.

Flash is also standard on most Champions, you might be tempted to run something such as Ghost 6.png, but Flash 4.pngis still more valuable. Mundo is already fast enough, and without Flash you won’t be able to follow champions over walls, or immediately close a gap to escape.

New Runes Back to Top

Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=64Grasp works well with Mundo's Kit, giving him sustain in fights through auto attacking, and buildlin on his already big HP pool, and dealing damage based on his HP, it's passive and very easy to proc without even thinking about it during fights.
Bone%20Plating.png?width=64 Bone plate simply makes you take less damage for free
Conditioning.png?width=64 Mundo doesn't need Second%20Wind.png?width=32 Second Wind in most matchups, so getting Free Armor & Magic Resist @ 10 minutes is free stats for not running the other runes.
Revitalize.png?width=64 Bonus Healing on yourself is so important, since your kit is primarily about healing, having as much of it is best.
The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=64 Having Mundo's ULT up as much as possible is what makes him useful, and that's just what ULT Hat does, lets you have ULT up more often.
Transcendence.png?width=64 Getting 10% CDR at level 10, as a Top laner you get to level 10 fairly quickly, so you get effectiveness out of this rune during at least half of the match, and it not only gives you CDR towards Mundo's ULT, but having Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png & E masochism.png off cooldown quicker gives you more damage.

Abilities Back to Top

Skill Order
sadism.png dot-pattern.png infectedcleavermissilecast.png dot-pattern.png masochism.png dot-pattern.png burningagony.png

drmundopassive.png Passive

Mundo passively regenerates 0.3% of his Max Heal each second.

Mundo's Basic Abilities infectedcleavermissilecast.pngburningagony.pngmasochism.png cost Health to cast

infectedcleavermissilecast.png  Infected Cleaver

Mundo throws a cleaver, dealing magic damage and slowing the first enemy hit, if you hit an enemy it refunds a small amount of health.
  • This ability is on low cooldown, and should be spammed during fights
  • Use this ability to hit CS in lane that you are zoned from
  • Move to the side of the minion wave to land Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png  on the enemy champion.
  • You can also throw this into a bush to check if there is an enemy champion in it.

burningagony.png Burning Agony

Active Mundo deals magic damage in a small area around him & gains tenacity
This ability deals damage to mundo every single so be sure to toggle if on and off appropriately.
  • Cast this during the start of any fight just to do more damage.

masochism.png Masochism

Passive: Taking Magic damage or casting other abilities give Mundo bonus Magic Resist
Active: Mundo gains bonus AD based on missing Health & resets Mundo's auto attack and his initial auto attack deals bonus physical damage.
  • Use this when you get in Auto Attack range to deal lots of damage
  • You can also spam this during fights, it's what makes Mundo be able to take down carries during fights

sadism.png Sadism

Mundo Regenerates TONS of health per second & gains bonus movement speed for the duration.
  • Use this during any fight when you start to lose health, or need the movement speed, Sadism sadism.png was recently buffed, making Mundo very, very strong, even if the enemy has healing reduction 3123.png3165.png14.png it doesn't matter to much.
  • Don't cast Mundo's ULT to late either, it's not something to be held on to, just use it, it last a long time, and the cooldown of it is very short, so don't wait until the last second to cast it during a fight.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

1054.png Doran's shield adds to Mundos sustain in lane, and makes any matchup easier for him, other options really suck such as 1055.png.
2003.png You start with 1 health pot, use it if you take a big trade and lose past half your health.
3340.png You get a free ward on cooldown, use to ward around 2:50 to dodge the first junglers gank.

Example Full Build

Your first item should be determined who you are against in lane, if you are against AP build 3065.png if you are against AD build 3068.png or 1011.png + 3047.png into 3065.png.

3065.png Sprite visage makes Mundo very, very, very hard to kill, it enhances Mundo's healing which he has from lots of sources, so it should be a priority to complete this item in a reasonable time.

3060.png Banner of Command lets you put even more preasure on an enemy AP laner, by having a minion push the wave.
3111.png or 3047.png are you best boot options on Mundo, obviously both are defensive and give you either armor or magic resist, most cases you will want Ninja Tabi's since 3065.png gives you a good amount of Magic resist already, but if you need (which you probably don't ) the extra tenacity than consider 3111.png.
3068.png & 3075.png Are the Armor options which also let you deal damage to the enemies around you or hitting you, so more damage + tankiness is great.

3742.png Deadman's Plate is fine, it makes you faster so you can swap it for Thornmail against harder to get onto targets, and it's passive gives you a good amount of initial burst as well.
3046.png If you are very fed and looking to push a lead even harder after finishing at least 2 tank items (3065.png3068.png) you can consider building Phantom Dancer, you get enough AD from E masochism.png, and the attack speed and crit from Phantom Dancer enhance your damage output a ton, and the passive from PD makes any target you are hitting deal less damage to you, which is just so oppressive for a champion like Mundo that is already healing able to tank a lot of damage. It's your best snowball item for sure.
3748.png You can replace Warmogs 3083.png for Titanic Hydra, it offers more wave clear, and more AOE damage from auto attacks during fights, if the enemy team is relatively short range, and likely to clump up during team fights you can get tons of value out of Titanic Hydra auto attacking, dealing damage to the enemies behind them.

Matchups Back to Top

Click on a champion below to see the author's notes on that particular matchup.

  • Camille
  • Cho'Gath
  • Darius
  • Irelia
  • Jax
  • Kennen
  • Malphite
  • Vladimir
  • Yasuo

Camille can set you up for ganks with her E camillee.png & ULT camiller.png

watchout for that, avoid walls so she can't take really good trades with her E camillee.png

It's very hard for either one of you to kill the other, if you both commit fully to a trade, its likely that a jungler is coming. So always be watching for that, and Enjoy a free laning phase.

Darius can walk into you early levels and kill you, if he moves past the minion wave throw a Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png at him and kite away.

Irelia is very strong in lane, and deals mixed damage, so you can build 3076.png into 3211.png

Irelia can kill you levels 1-6, so play safe and avoid her ireliae.png stun

Jax deals mixed damage, and can actually knock down mundo if he can stick onto him.

infectedcleavermissilecast.png him and walk out of auto attack distance, if you commit to a right clicking contest jax deals more damage. so keep that in mind, and know that you can play fights very slowly.

Mundo easily tanks Kenne's early game, and mid to late game if you have 3211.png you should be able to tank his damage.

Basically a free lane so long that you don't walk into all his abilities.

Malphite basically can't damage you, the only way he can deal a good amount of damage to you is with his obduracy.png W.

A free lane, Malphite can gain advantage by TP'ing and ULTing.

Any AP lane is very easy for Mundo because of his itemization and early sustain.

Rush 3065.png and, you can die, but only if you run into the enemy tower and afk.

3751.png > 3076.png > 3047.png

Yasuo is all auto attack based, 2 easy items negate a lot of his kit.

Early Game Back to Top

Early game you should avoid early trades and look to farm safety. The harder you scale the easier the game will be for a Mundo, when you have the ability to become unkillable late game, taking early risk isn't as rewarding.

In the hardest matchups you can farm from a distance safely with Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png
In melee matchups when the enemy tries to contest you for a CS, they will usually dash or walk into you, in which case all you have to do is throw Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png at them and walk away. If you stand to trade back to them, you likely only trade 1 auto attack and start moving into their minion wave to take even more damage, and put yourself in a bad spot. You can take hits and sustain the damage over time with Mundo's passive drmundopassive.png & Doran's Shield 1054.png

You can take small trades level 5, especially if you put 2 points in E masochism.png before level 6, instead of 3 into Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png. To take a small trade you get in front of the enemy champion hit them with a Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png then Auto Attack > E masochism.png for the reset > and hit them with another auto attack then walk away. It's a good amount of burst damage, that doesn't cost much. It can also happen very quickly, so some players might not respond with their damage in time.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game you want to continue to farm, you can look to make plays across the map with TP 12.png but it won't be as impactful as other top laners that can offer CC when they TP in. Mid Game is not the time in which Mundo can face tank everything, you can tank 2-3 champions, or a tower, but not all 5 champions + a tower, you need items for that and lots of them, so Mid game you should continue to farm your lane as well as possible & even better if you can farm jungle camps as well.

Any gank that you recieve after level 6 should be good for your team, in ideal situations you avoid key CC during a gank and walk away with  ULT sadism.png wasting the enemy top laners resources and the enemy jungler time. Even if you do get hit though Mundo's ULT and general tankiness can be very forgiving and get you out alive.

If you jungler is top side and moving into the enemy jungle, you can push out your wave, then move into the enemy jungle with him to setup a fight.

If you are behind don't go for fights or trades, trade your health for CS, not your health for the enemy's health, unless you are setting up for a coordinated gank with your Jungler. Pay attention to your tower HP, and where the enemy jungler could be, since once you get behind you become an easy gank target. It's ok to walk away from your tower and some CS if you know you will die for staying there.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game is when you can start to take over games as Mundo, when you are sitting on 3ish items 3065.png3068.png etc. Then is the time to start walking into enemy champions, with multiple towers probably being down on the map, all champions will be moving around the map to some degree, which creates more likelihood of a fight breaking out that you can be involved in, and team fighting with Mundo is pretty simple, you throw your Q infectedcleavermissilecast.png at the closest target, and chase them down, using W burningagony.png when you get near them and leaving it on during the entire fight, and E masochism.png when you get close enough to auto attack. It's pretty simple, and being a champion that is simply a BIG HP Bar, you don't have to do much kiting or land any incredibly hard skillshots, it's more about if you are in the right position or not at the start of a fight that will determine your overall effectiveness during a fight.

It's ok to push out the wave Top or Bot lane, but committing 100% to a split push isn't as effective as using Mundo to fight the enemy team. If you have nothing else to do but split push that's fine, but if you are simply pushing waves then walking up to hit the towers than you put yourself at risk.

It's better to push out minion waves the move away from the tower and wait for the next wave or recall and move to the other side of the map with your team.
