Summoner Spells Back to Top

The common spells used by ADCs is flash4.png and heal7.png. Some players prefer to stay on the old days and use barrier, however I personally prefer heal. Exhaust3.png is a viable option when you are facing a burst heavy team or if you plan on dueling a lot throughout the game. Ignite14.png should be used if you are confident in you and your support's abilities to win and quickly kill your lane to set yourself on a one way ticket to steam roll the lane. It can also be used for vision on champions with invisibility such as Vayne or Twitch.

Masteries Back to Top

I go down the ferocity tree into Warlords Bloodlust because it suits Draven's kit really well. Draven is the heaviest hitting ADC early game, and when early fights in lane come around, sustain is needed. Warlords gives health back reflecting damage done, and since Draven has huge early game auto attack damage, he will get more health back than other ADCs. I can't tell you how many times that Warlords has saved my life in lane just barely from early game. Not only in early game is Warlords useful too.

Fervor of Battle is another viable option, however Draven does enough early damage and damage overall, so when fighting other ADCs, the extra damage isn't really worth it for the other things you can get from masteries. One interesting thing with Draven is that the Q empowered auto attack counts as an ability, stacking fervor as an ability (2) instead of 1, with the usual auto attack. This gives the fervor damage to Draven much faster than other ADCs.

Thunderlords is also a good viable option. Draven is excellent at early trades, and with the quick Edravendoubleshot.png, auto, auto, thunderlords will put down an extra bit of damage. This tool is really useful to make sure you do a lot of damage to the enemy ADC as possible.

Grasp of the Undying is something I have experimented with, it is a useful source of sustain, and with it you will almost never lose a trade.

Other masteries can be replaced, such as Double Edged sword can be picked up, Assassin if you duel a lot, and Bounty Hunter is also good. Those are up to personal choice.

The reason for maxing Qdravenspinning.png is pretty obvious as it is where all of his damage comes from in his kit. It allows him to hold 2 axes at once, but control more than 2. They are hard to catch, they can be controlled easily. Immediately after an auto, move towards a direction, the direction you want them to go, and they will locate towards where you moved. The distance they travel does not change. Practice makes perfect with catching and controlling axes. Draven drops the axes after a few seconds,  meaning you will have to continue auto attacking with them if you want to keep them. This is one reason that Draven is a heavy pusher and easier than other ADCs for csing. (45 mana all levels)

As for the choice between Wdravenfury.png and Edravendoubleshot.png The E is a lot more useful in many ways. During fights the E is thrown out to displace an enemy for peel or engaging purposes. But after that it's done til the very end of the fight. It is better to upgrade an ability that can be used many times during the fight. The W's reset mechanic helps Draven stay back or forward as needed like kiting or chasing. While catching axes the movement speed from the W keeps him in the right distance and buffed with attack speed. From 40% attack speed to 60% for 3 seconds, it is a great buff for fights to dish out as much damage as you can. As long as you keep catching axes, you can retain the high attack speed and kiting ability. (Wdravenfury.png 40 mana all levels)

Draven's Edravendoubleshot.png is useful for engaging as well as disengaging enemies. It knocks the enemies to the side, (hints the name stand aside) away from the middle of the ability. Be very careful with the positioning of this skillshot because the direction you throw it can bring them towards you a little bit if you do it right. The ability slows for 20% at level 1, scaling by 5% each level. (70 mana all levels)

Draven's ult, dravenrcast.png Whirling Death can be used to snipe someone across the map or to put down more damage in fights. The most common use of it is for more damage in fights. During fights wait until the team is most lined up and use the ability. It will go across all of them and since it returns, it will damage them twice. The return time is a gift and a curse, giving it more time to reach a larger area if the team is spread out, and too much space when sniping an enemy, just enough for them to walk out of range and be safe if it does not kill them the first time. It is better to be used when first engaged in fights to get early damage and so you can focus on catching axes during the rest of the fight. Try to position yourself in a way where the enemies are lined up and in a choke point so they cannot escape. (120 mana all levels)

Draven has overall high mana costs, so you want to be careful to use your abilities carefully and not waste them.

Situational Items

    Possible Situational damage items
    Defensive situational items

The first thing you will notice is that there is no zeal item. That is because with the rune page I have set up, there is no need for one. With 3006.png there is a lot of attack speed already, and you can just go straight damage. This does lower the amount of critical chance you have, but I believe it makes up for it in the pure damage and safety that the build brings. The main items, in order, are 3031.png3072.pngand from then on the build is all optional/situational. If against an ap heavy team, items like 3156.png3139.png are helpful and damage oriented while giving helpful passives and defense. Against a heavy tanky team, a last whisper item 3036.png3033.png can be picked up and against burst teams 3053.pngand 3026.png can be picked up. If incredibly ahead a 3078.png is a good option for TONS OF DAMAGE! This is because with the sheen, the auto attacks can be buffed by a lot. With Draven's Wdravenfury.png reset mechanic, he can continually access the sheen's passive and dish out massive amounts of damage in fights. However this item should only be bought if you are very ahead or very confident in your ability to kite and stay alive. This season has ADCs in a situation where they are very vulnerable, so getting full damage with a tri force is something that should be done in certain situations, such as if you are not against a lot of assassins. If the team you are against a squishy team and ahead, the crit Draven build with 3031.png3508.png3046.png or another zeal item is nice, with a last whisper item. However when up against assassins, it will not be optimal since you will be very squishy.

Now. there's been talk about a build that starts with 3142.png and 3071.png in korea. I've tried this build and it's pretty good. The build from then on goes situational, and it helps with many factors. It has a good amount of armor pen. for less tanky teams and it gives 30% cd which is amazing for keeping q at all times. The q comes off of cooldown perfectly for you to keep your double axes at all times. the passives and actives allow massive mobility for draven in fights which helps with kiting and positioning.

I'd like to talk about the youmuus start, because I get questions about it. It is a really strong start because it has a good amount of AD as well as armor penetration. With its stats and unique passive which gives attack speed for a short time, dealing damage to enemy laners without a lot of armor is easy. Whenever I return to lane with a youmuus, and I see the ADC alone without the support, I Edravendoubleshot.png in and use the youmuus. I kill them and burn summoners almost every time. The enemy never suspects the amount of damage you deal with this item start, sometimes neither do you. Its an amazing item.

VS

Alistar

Hard

Going against the new alistar is, well, always hard if they know what they're doing. Make sure to always control your axes correctly and safely. If an axe lands near him, he will take advantage and combo you. Then you have put yourself in a situation where a fight has begun that you might lose if the ADC has not taken advantage of your cc'd state. In fights he will try to headbutt you or catch you out, so watch out for his engages. Using your Edravendoubleshot.png can block his engage with Wheadbutt.png if timed correctly, however to do so correctly requires a fast reaction time and foresight through his aggressive movements.

VS

Ashe

Medium

Ashe is very easy to take advantage of up until level 6. Before she gets her ultasheR.png she is vulnerable. She is very immobile and as long as you stay safe from her WasheW.png you will be able to farm fine and trade fine. Engaging on her with the Edravendoubleshot.png will not be hard and keeping up with her with the Wdravenfury.png movement speed will make it easier to get close to her. She is not strong early game so early fights should not be too hard

VS

Bard

Medium

Bard is pretty complicated. His qbardq.png allows him to stun you in a minion wave if you're trying to avoid it, and other pokes delivered from the opposing ADC. This creates trouble when catching axes and avoiding an unwinnable trade. his Ebarde.png makes it hard to stay aggressive in lane because of ganks, and his Rbardr.png makes it hard to avoid unwanted engages. However it is playable against if you try to avoid being behind one minion, to avoid q and get stunned, and the R is avoidable if you have fast reflexes or flash up.

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

Caitlyn has the most range in the game, so she can out lane a lot of ADCs especially Draven. If caught off guard or caught too close, a well placed Edravendoubleshot.png can engage well onto her and begin a nice trade. However she will likely netcaitlynentrapment.png out, and if it hits you this will result in a loss of the trade and a disengage. If allied with an engage or catching support such as 89.png12.png412.png53.png can create a scenario where you can get close enough to her for you to win the fight or trade. Also, be cautious of her trapcaitlynyordletrap.png  placement as well as your axe placement. Be sure not to control your axes into a trap, where you will lose a lot of health by her Qcaitlynpiltoverpeacemaker.png auto combo. Her Qcaitlynpiltoverpeacemaker.png can also be easily dodged by a well timed Wdravenfury.png speed boost to dodge it.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

Ezreal outranges Draven. If you allow yourself to be hit continually with his Qezrealmysticshot.png you will lose lane. Be sure to stand behind minions or use your Wdravenfury.png to dodge his skillshots. You can also wait his Eezrealarcaneshift.png out to engage with your Edravendoubleshot.png and win a trade or fight. Ways to bait his E include running at him and autoing him, they will likely E out for safety. When he returns it will be a free engage for a trade against him. When close enough to him, make sure to kite towards where he wants to go to stay close to him so that when he uses his E to escape, you are close enough to him to auto attack and continue fighting. Late game make sure to keep a safe distance. Especially if the Ezreal goes blue build, he will slow you and you will not be able to catch up with him.

VS

Jhin

Medium

Jhin is a very strong champion, and a strong trader. In order to shut down a Jhin in lane, an engage heavy support is needed such as 12.png89.png will really help to lock him down long enough for Draven to do serious damage. Jhin has decently low cooldowns and high damage so if you go for the long game, then you will lose. Wait until he uses his abilities and is on his last bullet to engage. If he isn't stunned, he will have that only bullet then he will have to waste most of the fight reloading so he won't be able to deal all that much damage. Otherwise stay far away from him when he has that last bullet up.

VS

Kalista

Easy

Kalista's early game is very weak compared to other ADCs. Take advantage of this by abusing her early. Make sure the early trades don't last long because her EkalistaE.png damage will give her more damage for the trade the longer the fight lasts. Kalista's WkalistaW.png passive damage will also make a trade harder to win, so be careful of the support's whereabouts. Make sure to kite back from the support and not let the support get too close to you. Because of Kalista's auto attack unable to be canceled, easing up towards her as she is attempting to get farm is a good idea to give her a quick auto attack trade. Since she is focusing on the minion, she will either have to trade the gold for the damage or lose the gold and lose the auto damage trade. Draven's Edravendoubleshot.png is also harder to land on her, because of her jumping ability.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

Kog'Maw is one of the most vulnerable and weak ADCs early game. Make sure to capitalize on this because Draven is just the opposite. Whenever he gets remotely close, Edravendoubleshot.png to engage. He will not be able to dish out as much damage as you do and lose the trade. Once he gets one item like a Guinsoos3124.png I advise against fighting unless you are extremely ahead already. If you haven't taken advantage of him before he gets the item, good luck. His ultkogmawlivingartillery.png is very easy to dodge with the Wdravenfury.png speed passive. Since he is immobile, the Draven ultdravenrcast.png will also be easier to hit.

VS

Lucian

Hard

Lucian is a tough match up for Draven because of Lucian's burst potential early. What I mean is that when trading with Lucian one auto/ability Lucian has his QlucianQ.png into passive, into ElucianE.png into passive again. This can put more damage down than Draven can with a couple auto attacks or just as much. Especially lined up with a CC oriented support, Draven will have a tough time trading with him. If caught off guard, Draven's Edravendoubleshot.png can be used to displace the Lucian, allowing a decent trade.

VS

Varus

Medium

Varus outranges Draven. His skillshots can easily be dodged with the Wdravenfury.png speed passive, but he is immobile. He can be engaged on easily with the Edravendoubleshot.png and after that he is a sitting duck. He has high damage with his abilities, so be careful. However in lane he has really high cooldowns early, so once he uses all of his abilities he is vulnerable to fight.

VS

Vayne

Easy

Draven into Vayne favors the Draven. Early game, Vayne will be unable to trade or be able to deal as much damage as the Draven will. To deal reasonable damage early, Vayne needs to be able to get her Silver Bolts vaynesilveredbolts.png off. This takes a decent amount of time. This gives enough time for Draven to deal a lot more damage to Vayne, especially with attack speed runes, because Draven will deal more autos with more damage than vayne. A quick 2 auto trade is optimal against Vayne because she will not be able to get her Silver Bolts off, only dealing minimal damage. Later on in the game Draven can match Vayne's late game potential. A duel between the two are even, as Vayne has her invisibility with her ult vayneinquisition.png and outplay potential with her Evaynecondemn.png. If played correctly, perhaps a pink ward for safe keeping in these situations, and a well placed Dravenn Edravendoubleshot.png, Draven will be able to win the duel easily.
