Summoner Spells Back to Top

standard jungle summoner spells. You can take ignite or teleport if you like, but it is better for surprise ganking if you take flash. If Ignite or teleport are taken, I suggest you use movement speed quints.


TELEPORT WILL HELP YOU MAKE PLAYS. I will explain later on in the guide, but essentially it gives you a huge dueling advantage if you have good map awareness.

Ghost can be interesting too since you already have blink built into your kit.

If you are really confident about yourself you can play ekko like shaco with ignite. not really viable but if you think you can go ahead

This is the same as any mid or top lane skilling, except you should start with W. positioning is key based off of how much damage you do to the camps. First clear you should NOT put W directly on the large monster of camps. Use the shield, since it does not last longer than the stun. Otherwise you will end up wasting a lot of hp and blowing your first 2 pots before you first clear. otherwise R>Q>E>W. W IS A ONE TRICK WONDER WITH ITS 1.5 AP RATIO. DO NOT, i repeat, DOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOT MAX W. THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOU TO AND YOU WILL HAVE LACKLUSTER DAMAGE!


if you want to max e, go ahead, but the clear time for your first and second clear wont be as great (tested- does not work at all)

As of 6.13 there is no major change besides q cooldown being a lot lower than it used to be

Starting Items

    standard jungle start
    swap this out for sweeping on your first back
    Good on ekko if you absolutely need to spend the money on sustain

Core Items

    GET IT. people are dumb and if you get your timing right you can 100-0 people with only your ult late game
    choose one of these depending on your role. If you want the vision control, get the scanner. If you want to play agressive and get enemy jungle vision/ buff information, get the blue trinket. If you are snowballing get blue trinket for mid game and then swap to the ward clearing trinket late game
    Just discovered how good this is as a 2nd or 3rd item. Its cost is extremely efficient for what it does, and since you can switch allies, you can place it on the ally that you are ganking a lane with, in case there is a countergank. 8 seconds of bonus crit on you and a teammate plus the bonus ap is HUGE in a 2v2 or 3v3 situation.

Situational Items

    pick what you like, but the first 4 are best. If you need an efficient buy get Abyssal or Void staff. Liandry's torment is not suggested as a 3rd or 4th item. you spend a lot of money for the burn which wont do much to help your team early game, and isnt as good stat wise as the other 5 items listed
    good for burst
    If you get counterjungled or shut down hard early, it is best to get these items to just become a utility role that can last long in fights and still dish out damage. These items actually have a lot more efficient cost for the help that they will give you later on, and FH, RG, and Locket are a HUGEEEEE help to your team.
    Will of the ancients can be good as a last item if you have more than 500 AP. It gives you just that little extra sustain in teamfights and 1v1 skirmishes that you normally wouldn't win. PRO TIP: this combined with your q gives a surprise hp boost when it returns. use the increased damage to your advantage if multiple people are chasing you, because all that damage dealt will heal you and then you can dive back in with your dash, which will proc for even more heal WITH runeglaive
    If you plan on building AD, this is the way to go. Only building these two items gives you a ton of presence in fights, so you can build hp/tank afterwards and be present in team fights

    It is also Viable for ekko to go a ad carry route, now that his passive proc on Dev is fixed.
    New Hextech Items are extremely good on ekko but are more situational depending on if you need the extra help gap closing

zekes is starting to get better since teams now like to play more tanky top laners and junglers meaning fihgts are going to last longer late game (makes the item more useful stacking)

you don't want to be fighting him early on, but as soon as you get Zhonyas, you can 1v1 him any time. Use Zhonyas into w to stun, followed by ult to finish him off

This matchup is kinda difficult. Eve always will have the 1up on you because of her passive, which makes the game all about snowball potential. Whoever snowballs themselves or the team harder will have the larger impact in the game.

Not a counter like Nidalee, but you can prevent him from landing his cc by using your slows, and early on you outdamage him unless you run into a fermented cask. you can kill him late game, but dont try to 1v2 or 1v3 as an ap hypercarry, because that wont end well since he has the engage/disengage to kill you.

Easy

You can easily bait master Yi into your stun, the only problem is catching up to him after he ults, since your q cant slow him.

Easy

His cc is really annoying, so just ward up his jung and focus on punishing him. One of the only junglers i suggest running the counterjungling machete on. Late game you can use ult at last second to dodge his ult, or to reposition so nobody on your team gets hit by it.

Ahh yes, the 2 jungle ap assassins. This is yet another snowbally type of game. dont counterjungle, and get vision on the river, since nidalee players like to get the vision control with their traps/sightstones. If you have vision of her and counter her vision, that is your best bet. when fighting bait her jumps/ cd reduced w into a stun. that way you can burst her before she can get that missing %hp damage off

Medium

Depends on how good the olaf is. Pre 6 you win, and post 6 you need to bait his ult so you can cc him. You will probably 100-10 him easily but that last 10% is hard to get with his attack speed buffs.

Easy

this is quite an easy matchup since you have the ability to dash over walls and teleport. If you teleport as soon as she starts burrow. she wont have the time to react and get the knockup to kill you. Kite her with your q and dash and if she chases you shes dead.

Easy matchup early and mid game. Your cc is better than his and if you invade him lvl 2 or 3 he will not have the mana or cds to run away from your q slow. Late game is harder, so furor boots or alacrity boots are suggested. WARD AND COUNTERGANK. he is worthless if you countergank and stun.

Hard

very hard matchup. If you or your team give him a kill and he gets dev jung item, its game over. use your W to set up baits for him to ult you, and then ult to do as much damage to him before dashing out.

Zeke's Back to Top

with the introduction of Zeke's last patch, we saw an incredible mid-late game item that vastly boosts 2 of your team members. This is an INCREDIBLE boost for ekko, in the fact that it gives you some essential armor for late game, and the same amount of ap as your jung item. In fact, the gold difference between buying your jung item and zeke's is 50 gold. To show how important that gold cost is, jungle items are designed to be extremely efficient at their cost. they provide a huge benefit for clear and sustain, while giving a huge relevance in mid and late game. NOW, take Zeke's. Crd. Armor. The same AP as your Jung item. Mana. THIS IS EVERYTHING EKKO NEEDS TO BE A POWERHOUSE IN THE EARLY AND MIDGAME. Not to mention it is 700g less than anything else that you would buy that had a needless in it. 


BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

what about the passive? THE F***ING 20% AP BOOST AND 50% CRIT CHANCE THAT IS GUARENTEEEEEED FOR 8 GOD DAMN SECONDS. 

By buying this item, you effectively double your damage output, AS WELL AS SOMEONE ELSES. And its not like kalista soulbound where you can only do it to one person. Just slap it on the highest damage dealer on your team and POOF! enemy team is dead, and you guys just won another game.

This is perfect since Ekko thrives in choke point and drawn out battles.

As of 6.13 I believe That Zekes is still  very viable in soloq

HEADS UP. THIS IS A REALLY EXTENSIVE GUIDE. UNLESS YOU ARE STARTING A GAME AND JUST LOOKING FOR A BUILD/SKILL AND MASTERY TREE, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GRAB A SNACK AND START READING. 


Hi, My name is P0ultryGe1st, otherwise known as JazzJazzMan. This guide is here just to help anyone that stumbles onto it, wanting to learn more about Ekko. On my accounts I am mostly assassin mains, with last seasons main being Shaco, and ending with around a 64% winrate.

This season I have mostly been taking a break from ranked to do one thing. LEARN. and by learn I mean study the meta and what fits and what will have potential in the next patch. I was one of the leading guys playing gragas jungle 2 patches before he was considered meta, and same thing with Irelia. I have always been good at predicting meta, and since cinderhulk is starting to phase out, it is about to be the time of assassins! (or tank assassin)

SO! Here are some Pros and Cons to playing Ekko!

PROS:
-Incredible gank potential and objective control
-2.25 sec stun if you land your w (not that hard to do if you are patient)
-A POWERHOUSE LATEGAME WITH EASY CARRY POTENTIAL
-blink is built in to kit, so you don't need to worry as much about aoe cc (aka azir ult, thresh ult, flash isn't cc, but if they flash as your blink procs you blink to their flash locat1on)
-the passive stacks baybeeee!
-you are a slippery little MotherF***er
-beats people to death with a yo-yo and a clock arm
-OVERALL SATISFYING PLAYSTYLE IF YOU PLAY CAREFULLY FOR THE FIRST 6-8 MINUTES


CONS:
-Weak 1st clear if you don't get a proper leash
-mana problems until you get your runglaive.
-extremely squishy if built full AP and requires a lot of team communication when trying to make plays with a zhonyas.
-you need to get good with the timing of your W
-need to not worry about going balls deep all day erry day
-if you get shut down or counter-jungled you need to know when to switch your build to be more team fight/tank oriented

Top Lane Synergy (for those who duo top and jungle) Back to Top

Here is a list of a bunch of top laners (that take TP of course) that Ekko has great team fight and gank synergy with.


14.png - you both can layer your cc in teamfights EXTREMELY EASILY if you layer the AOE stun with both of Sions Knockups, plus with him being so tanky and having decent peel, you dont have to worry about being killed instantly.

31.png- being one of the last champs that has a silence, this makes team fights and ganks extremely easy. Plus the added knockup! both of you can seal and dish out damage as a front/mid line (even though you are squishy early on).

17.png- dont judge me, but since the update these two do extremely well together. if there are shrooms in the right spots, you can double slow by bouncing and arming into the ekko stun. (takes skill)

57.png- kinda a boring pick, but hes extremely good in the current meta. Root and knockup in which both of you can straight dive the backline. his ult keeps you alive, and you two can layer ults to deal tons of damage.

59.png- self explanitory- shootin hoops baybeee

98.png - also a meta pick that is kind of boring to play, but the huge surprise factor comes in when ekko blinks, and a wild shen appears with a taunt.

114.png- YES. YES. YES. the team fight and gank potential with this is insane, meaning you two can dive backline and survive with her huge aoe heal (PLUS THE FUCKING CC BLOCK SHE HAS). This means you get even MORE of a movement speed buff (30%) to kite around.

150.png- only reccomended if the gnar is experienced, the layered stuns work wonderfully, but the gnar has to be ablue to land multiple man ults for this to work.

266.png- The aoe damage combined with the knockup and slow make this a wonderful team comp. Both of you ult in the middle of the opposing team at the same time and you do about 2/3 of their hp late game. (if not just flat out kill them).

Mid Lane Synergy (again, for those that duo mid/jung) Back to Top

1.png- really easy to play for beginners, and if she lands a stun that means the followup stun from ekko is 99% guarenteed.

45.png- his huge damage and lockup compliments yours nicely, providing he is good at positioning pre- gank, since veigar is extremely slow.

61.png- Orianna is the queen of mid lane pressure, and the fact that she can shield you as you dash in means you ahve a guarenteed slow to land your q and then land a stun.

90.png- Surpress. 'nuff said.

112.png- Same reason as ori. He's a control mage that is an OP this patch. Let him take your wolves or razorbeaks, cause the further ahead he gets the earlier his power spikes are. (plus you get a roaming partner since he can one shot a wave)

114.png- Fiora is actually a decent flex pick now that she has a gap closer that isn't a targeted ability. She has good carry potential, and her parry allows her to block damage and cc which is huge when laning against poke and assassin mid laners.

85.png- all depends on if your duo knows how to play kennen and deal with the spark stacks. If yes, then ekko/kennen is a huge teamfight threat.

99.png- PERFECT MATCH, her combined cc from her slow and her root makes it super easy to land your stun. Unless the enemy flashes, they cant escape, and at that point just loop around for the kill.

Jungle Clear/Early Ganking with Ekko Back to Top

As Ekko you don't necessarily need to get both of your buffs to gank. Always start bot lane with your duo, and then work your way up that side, including the corresponding scuttle crab. Depending on where your mid laner is and how comfortable you are tower diving, use the corresponding gank position from one of the circles. You can also head bot lane if your team has a way of chain ccing.

Use your first pass mid to blow one of their summoner spells, and then loop around when you have made it look like you left to farm. Then go in for the kill. DONT BE AFRAID TO FLASH DASH STUN. IT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE SURPRISE FORM OF CC THAT EKKO HAS! Rinse and repeat for every lane.

Tower diving is also a very important factor with Ekko ganks, which is mostly done under top lane pre-6, and then bot lane post-6 when your bot lane is level 5. Use your shield proc to your advantage for Pre-6 ganks, especially since you can last for 1-2 more tower hits if you keep track of the ramped up damage for each consecutive hit you take. Post 6 ganks HEAD TO BOT LANE. dive the bot lane again with your dash and your slow/stun. YOU WANT TO BE THE ONE THAT TAKES THE AGGRO. That way you can bait all the enemy CDs, and then reset turret aggro and get back a ton of hp you lost to the turret as well as enemy spells and attacks.


Other Possible Starts for Ekko Back to Top

If your bot lane wants to take their creep for the lvl 2 advantage. ALWAYS START WOLVES. they deal less damage than the razerbeaks, a relatively easy clear, and smiting a wolf gives you the security that you wont be invaded, since you have the aoe jungle ward.


The same thing can be done with the razor camp.

I DO NOT SUGGEST SOLOING GROMP. gromp takes the longest out of the 3 camps to clear, and he does more damage. Even if you get the %hp burn it still takes forever to hit 2 off of a solo.

If you do decide that invading is a good idea since your team has the stronger level 1, it is always best to have a 5 man head to the opposite tri-bush. That way you can W for vision, and then know what you are dealing with. Best case scenario you loop around the enemy krugs and catch the jungler/duo offguard and get first blood. Worst case you die, but you can solo camps in your own jungle. (still not wise to give first blood though, unless you are going for next-level strats).

it is very important to hit these walls at those specific angles, otherwise the boundary of the terrain will screw you over for your engages/escapes. I suggest you play with your ability markers on (at least for your E)

Fun Teamfight Tips and tricks Back to Top

for this tip to work you will need 3157.png and 1305.png. Dive into the enemy team, preferably after landing a q. That way 1-2 stacks of your passive will be guaranteed with your stun. By this time, if people are grouping around you they will instantly try to cc you. BUT you have the latency advantage (by a couple of milliseconds). Unless its a trap or something in that nature you will be able to ult to deal massive damage. the great thing about having the items above/boots means that you can instantly run out of that 3-4 v1 that you started with your passive move speed proc AS WELL AS FUROR. this gives you the base 40-80% buff from your passive, plus the 12% buff from the boots enchant. that is near 480 movespeed currently, which you dont get easily on ekko since his base movespeed is 340.


If you are running teleport, dont forget that you can use your ult after it to go back to base. Use this to teleport to a tower that you know is going down soon, but you can still TP to in time. then comes the quick decision making. You have 3.5-4 seconds to burst down whoever you want until your ult goes to where the TP ended. if you take too much damage because its 2-4v1, but you get them low thats fine, usually your team will be rotating to that tower to defend. just ult and POOF. they don't know where the hell you went and you don't die. its a win win situation!

Another fun trick is to be used against mages and assassins that have escapes. Use your ult guide model to position behind them, and then Q. Since q does not reset when you ult, if they dodge behind where you were into the ult path (but not nececarially the ult itself) you can change the direction of your q while its going back to you. (kinda like bananazir).

USE CHOKE POINTS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. The reason ekko jung works so well is because his skrimish ability, as well as his ability to catch multiple people in choke points is insane. Practice landing your stuns BLINDLY, or using blue trinket to set it up. UNLESS YOU HAVE VISION, ALL JUNGLE FIGHTS THAT ARE IN THE ENEMY JUNGLE WILL BE BLIND INITIATIONS UP UNTIL YOUR W GIVES VISION. (unless you have a good support and a mid laner that upgrades his yellow trinket). If you land 2 or more in a stun, just go. You do enough damage to be able to make it a 2 for 1 if you die (since the new ap ratios are kickass).

Late Game Ekko Back to Top

at this point, if you are full build, you will deal TONS OF DAMAGE (sorry for Phreak pun). You will have the mr and armor stats of a slightly damage focused bruiser. 


FIRST OBVIOUS THING- LAYERED CC IS YOUR WORST ENEMY. IF THEY HAVE MORE THAN 1 HARD CC ABALITY, DONT TRY TO 1v3 or 1v4 UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY F***ING FED.

Job no. 1 is to always find picks. You have huge burst potential, and if you see a 1/3/1 split in the lanes, it will probably be the best that you go get a solo kill on the adc, who is usually in one of the outer lanes split pushing.\

Job no. 2 is to be a really slippery MotherF***er. Full dive a 4 man, Zhonyas, ult. Be a distraction while dishing out damage, because your team will easily be able to clean up, and you have the ability to 100-0 5 people if they are dumb enough to group around you. 

One IMPORTANT thing to note is that your W shield ekko as long as you are within it EVEN IF YOU ARE UNTARGETABLE (aka Zhonyas and your ult). So if you time right you can  W => Zhonyas => (Stun entire enemy team) =>ULT. if you do this while having around 700-900 ap your ult will deal 1.4k-1.7k damage.and at that point you will have the move speed proc from your passive. That movespeed proc combined with furor boots of mobility will give you a TON of movement speed, and you will have about 1/3 to 1/2 health. This means you can run/bait whoever is alive, and then just jump back in. BOOM. INSTA-PENTA.
