Summoner Spells Back to Top

No other sums can be brought into the jungle as Ekko.

Masteries Back to Top

Intelligence and Precision on the Cunning tree is something that varies a lot between Ekko players, I prefer Intelligence as of Season 7 because of Lethality not being as good for mages as early armor pen was.

Starting ekkow.pngon ekko in the jungle not only gives you a healthier clear because of the stun and shield, but a faster clear because of the execution damage per auto when the monster is low on health. It also uses less mana in your early clear which is another bonus.

NOTE: if you are against a a jungle you think will invade you at level 2 you should start q and then go into e, this will hurt your clear but allow you to fight at level 2 or escape with your e.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

    order: cinderhulk>rylais>mejai's>liandry's>ga.
order: runic>iceborn>meja's>spirits>ga. ninja tabi can be swapped out for merc treads and ga can be swapped out for liandry's
order: runic>abyssal>lich>deathcap>void. sorcerer boots can be swapped out for your choice of boots I just value the pen because you are getting void staff very late in this build.

Situational Items

red and blue smite come down to personal preference I almost feel like i value red smite too much not to take every game but I have had great success with both so choose which one you prefer.
1413.png with the changes to rylais and liandry's making this item combination easier acquire it becomes a more valuable build in the jungle because cheap items thrive in the jungle, it's one of the reasons off tank ekko jungle has always been stronger. Cinderhulk has great synergy with these items because of the health the give and this build is very strong, but a very different play style, so give this build a shot and see what you think.

3025.png This build i would consider my standard off tank Ekko jungle build and it's very efficient so if you prefer off tank ekko, which is easier to have success with in the jungle, try this out

3100.png full ap ekko jungle is good but it is harder because of the items being more expensive. this build will still give good results and you can also swap out a zhonyas for the abyssal scepter if you need armor more than mr but i would just build the seekers and sit on it for a bit because zhonyas is very inefficient for gold.

1041.png1039.png The choice between these two items comes down to what you value more, do you value faster clear speed or do you value better sustain. Most games I personally value faster clear speeds so I opt for machete but if you don't feel the same way it's perfectly acceptable and you can choose the healthier clear. be aware that if you start 1039.png you can do the trick where you throw q at raptors while you do red for hp regen so practice that trick in a custom game if you want healthier clears.

VS

Amumu

Medium

amumu is a strong 2v1 ganker but a very weak 2v2 ganker until level 6, if you counter gank him you will win the 2v2 pretty much every time so just be aware of what amumu wants to do and stop him from doing it.

VS

Elise

Medium

Elise will out duel you so don't try to fight her, you can counter gank her though. try to keep up with her map pressure and keep dragon warded early because she can solo at a low level.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

As of start of season 7 fiddlesticks is in a terrible place and his clear speed is too slow to do anything effective on the map, he may look to cheese gank level 2 to start early leads just let your team know to ward earlier and keep dragon warded for his level 4 sneak.

VS

Gragas

Medium

gragas can't really ever kill you and you can out pressure the map just be aware of where he is on the map and try to help your teammates out.

VS

Graves

Hard

graves will have kill pressure on you and if he gets a lead will walk up to camps you are doing and push you off them. you  need to ward jungle entrances and ping your teammates to come help you if he tries this.

VS

Hecarim

Hard

Hecarim is hard because this match up depends upon your team knowing how to play around a hecarim. hecarim will spam gank and there isn't a lot you can do about it, your team just has to not die to his ganks and hecarim will fall off quickly you just can't keep up with his ganks. try to punish his jungle camps when he ganks.

VS

Ivern

Hard

Ivern is tough because he can counter jungle you and you can't kill him for it so you fall behind just make your team aware of what's going on, of how he will try to counter your second buff and try to punish him with your. be careful of daisy as she can kill you easily and be aware the he might start the buff you don't and gank the outer lane so keep your other buff warded so you know what's going on

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

you can out gank him because his ganks are weak and out 2v2 him and he has very little kill pressure on you early.

VS

Kayle

Easy

you win in every way against kayle you can easily counter jungler her as well so just play the game like they don't have a jungler.

VS

Kha'Zix

Hard

he can out 1v1 and 2v2 you so you need to be very careful of fighting him just gank side of map he isn't on and do your best to punish his camps that are up when he is ganking because kha's clear speed before tiamat isn't great

VS

Kindred

Medium

you need to do your best to contest her marks, be ready to fight at her first crab mark, call your laners over as well you need to deny her stacks and you can win.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

Incredibly hard match up for ekko he can easily kill you at all points, can counter jungle you without being punished, can out gank you, can out 2v2 you, and is picked often. just ban him.

VS

Master Yi

Medium

his ganks are weak but he can snowball and counter jungle you quickly be aware of leaving camps up and try to out pressure the map

VS

Nidalee

Hard

she can clear faster than you and can out gank you and will win 1v1 just try to counter gank as her 2v2 isn't that strong.

VS

Nocturne

Medium

avoid 1v1ing him ujust counter gank and be aware of what he will want to ult at level 6 so you can be there. if noct fails his first 2 ult ganks he will most likely fall out of the game.

VS

Nunu

Medium

he'll counter jungle you very hard but his ganks are weak so just out gank him

VS

Olaf

Hard

if he sees you he has a lot of kill pressure on you so you need to avoid going for even a level 3 or 4 scuttle crab if you think he will be going for it, you can't really contest things against olaf

VS

Rammus

Easy

his clear speed is low so unless he snowballs off of early ganks you can beat him by just counter ganking him

VS

Rek'Sai

Hard

Reksai can out 1v1 you and out 2v2 you and will have more pressure on the map so just try your best to help your winning lanes.

VS

Rengar

Medium

he will look to invade you many times so be aware of warding the entries of your jungle and avoid 1v1ing him, he snowballs very hard so it's important you don't die to him early.

VS

Riven

Medium

stronger jungle than people realize but you just want to avoid 1v1ing her look for counter ganks and counter jungle.

VS

Rumble

Medium

he farms faster than you think and his 1v1 is very strong so avoid that. his ganks are weaker so that is where you win just out pressure him on the map

VS

Sejuani

Easy

Sejuani is pretty weak until 6 and you can abuse that just counter jungle her and make her life tough.

VS

Shaco

Medium

Be careful of him early invading you especially if he is running ignite. this match up can be rather tricky to learn counter ganking because the paths shaco takes are pretty odd and he can sneak over a lot of walls.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

she is going to power farm the jungle early try to develop leads early and be careful of her soloing dragon at level 4, keep that warded or tell your support to keep it warded.

VS

Skarner

Medium

will not gank until level 6 most likely try to develop leads in the early game and win mid game.

VS

Udyr

Medium

try not to gank too much with camps up as he will punish you pretty hard with his clear speed

VS

Vi

Hard

Vi is very strong at 1v1ing and counter jungling you and will most likely put you behind at all points in the game, her being in meta will likely make ekko even harder in the jungle. you need to avoid 1v1ing and 2v2ing so don't focus on counter ganking focus on ganking the side of the map she isn't on

VS

Volibear

Medium

ganks and 1v1ing are pretty strong so just be aware of counter ganks and avoid 1v1ing him unless you know his passive has been procd and is on cooldown.

VS

Warwick

Medium

Won't gank till 6 you should even try to start his buff side that he isn't starting to deny him exp and slow down his level 6 so he will have even less of an impact.

VS

Wukong

Medium

he most likely will not be ganking much until 6 so you develop leads pre 6 in lanes and you can win the mid game

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

standard farm jungler just play more gank heavy and avoid 1v1ing or 2v2ing him unless your 2nd is very strong. be aware of early dragons from his as well

VS

Zac

Medium

his ganks are very strong so you will need to be aware of counter ganks but his kill pressure on you in the jungle is rather low so you can be a little more risky on invading for his jungle camps just pay attention to lanes and let your teammates know.

Priorities In The Jungle Back to Top

When you are jungling it is important to keep in mind what to do and when to do it and how i like to think about this is a priorities list where i follow down the list until that option is available and that list is:

  1. Can i secure a dragon/rift herald or a tower kill
  2. Can I kill the enemy jungler
  3. Can I kill an enemy laner
  4. Can I deny an enemy laner a big wave of exp ( at least a wave and half pushing into the enemy where your presence forces the enemy to back off and lose exp from the wave furthering you laners lead over them.
  5. Can I clear the enemy jungler's camps
  6. Can I clear my own camps
It is important to be as efficient as possible in the jungle and to play towards the winning lanes rather than the losing lanes, often telling your losing lane to play safe and try not to die while you snowball a winning lane is your best chance of winning.

KEEP TRACK OF FLASH TIMERS as it is very easy to gank a lane without flash.

How To Gank On Ekko Back to Top

Ganking is one of the strengths of Ekko Jungle but it can be tricky. The goal of your gank is to firstly come from a path they don't expect, for example mid lane you can go over the crows behind them and force them into your w. below i'll put some images of what the paths for your ganks are and an idea of where you want to be placing your w, the idea of w placement is to put it behind them, where they want to run, and next to a wall so they'd have to run around it and into you.top.pngmid.pngbot.png

Objective Control Back to Top

There are many situations you should be looking to call an objective like dragon and I'll go over some of these examples:

  1. Do you have a numbers advantage and can safely do the objective
  2. are your teammates that are around the objective big enough to force a team fight around the objective and win the fight or big enough that the other team doesn't contest
  3. do you have proper vision control around the objective so that it can be safely done
the biggest thing you have to be aware of when it comes to securing objectives as ekko is that if your team is the one doing baron or dragon your combo smite is very weak and most other junglers have a stronger combo smite and can steal because your passive is on cooldown from fighting the objective, but if the enemy team is doing the objective Ekko's chances of stealing are fairly high because you can combo smite with your passive proc e. So just be aware that you need to make smart objective calls so you don't end up giving the enemy the dragon or baron you are trying to secure

When doing the objective combo smite: ekkoe.png 11.png

When stealing the objective you want to throw ekkoq.png and let the return hit stacking 2 stacks of your passive on the objective and then procing the passive with your ekkoe.png11.png combo smite.

Counter Jungling Back to Top

Counter Jungling is an extremely effective technique that you should constantly keep in mind. a lot of what counter jungling is good for is punishing the enemy jungler when they gank with camps up, in many stages of the game you can think of counter jungling as a damage control opiton. what I mean is when their jungle ganks top and gets a kill you can then clear their bot side so they don't actually come out ahead from the kill top, in that same scenario if they ganked and didn't get a kill they will be put behind from your counter jungle and will start to fall off immediately. This is why it's very important to make sure if you are ganking you believe 100% that you will get a kill from it because it's likely the enemy jungler will counter jungle you and punish you for ganking with camps up. this form of counter jungling I would consider defensive counter jungling, it's counter jungling with very little risk, you're not actually fighting the enemy jungler you're just denying them cs on the opposite side of the map. this changes if you ever feel you have a strong lead over the enemy jungle, at that point you can begin to contest camps from the enemy jungle that they want  to clear, if you get to the point where you can successfully do this you have won the game, you will develop a 2 or more level lead quickly and their jungle will be useless. this comes down to understanding and using your lead over the enemy jungle. You should avoid letting the enemy get their buffs and be there on spawn with your team to further push your lead. Counter jungling takes a lot of practice and will come with time played in the jungle, just try to keep these tips in mind and eventually counter jungling will become more natural.

Introduction To Saintkilian Back to Top

Hey, I started playing the game in season four and started maining Ekko on release. I fell in love with the champion's play style and never stopped playing him since i started. I would consider myself a jungle main with mid and top being shortly behind that. In season 6 I ended with 1800 Ekko games played, peaked 200 LP Masters in North America, and ended Masters. At the end of Season 6 I ended Rank 1 Ekko in the world on both Lolskill and Lolking. This is the first guide I have sat down and wrote so I tried to be as informative as possible but it is impossible to include everything and I'm positive i forgot something, if that's the case I apologize and if you have any further questions about Ekko or want to bounce some thoughts off someone feel free to add me on league and message me there if you are in NA, tweet at me and I'll respond when I see it (@saintkilian2), or hop in my twitch when I'm streaming and ask me there! Never worry about asking questions, I have plenty myself and it's important to have your questions answered if you're serious about getting better at the game and getting better at Ekko. I hope this guide has helped you and thanks for taking the time to read this. :)Rank 1 ekko in world season 6 pic 3.png

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

The most common question i get is: how do I improve at hitting Ekko's ekkow.png
and the obvious answer is practice, accuracy with landing w will come with the more time you spend playing the champion. once you know the cast time, animation time, and all of the delays of w by heart it will become easier to hit. Furthermore you should get into the habit of casting w when outside of vision range of the enemy to not show the initial animation and cast of your w to your enemy, you can either do this by casting just outside of their vision range or from a bush.

Another big thing is to keep in mine you can animation cancel with Ekko's ekkoq.png and ekkoe.png
you do this by e >q > take e. you don't want to do this in every situation but it allows you to get your combo off faster and you should get comfortable with using this cancel.

Jungle trips and tricks: Keep in mind one of the strongest things about ekko jungle is his ability to tower dive at level 6. always be the one who takes initial tower aggro as you can ult to reset tower aggro before you die. learn to abuse this power and you will find a lot of success, just look at which lane is far ahead or if a lane is low hp under tower and dive them to safely get kills. BE AWARE of where the enemy jungler is before you dive as you can easily throw a lead if you don't play intelligently and gank with the enemy jungler ready to counter gank under turret.

How to Teamfight Back to Top

Always keep in mind that one Ekko w can instantly win a team fight if placed properly so always look for that. Most of the time you are going to want to look to land a good w and blow up an enemy carry but you can also use your w to create a 'safe' zone for your carries to peel them as well.

My Stream Back to Top

If you want to further get advice from me or want to stop by and hang out I also stream pretty much every day at 8-9 a.m central time NA, hope to see some of you there :) https://www.twitch.tv/saintkilian
