Summoner Spells Back to Top

Alway's a must if in the jungle.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Courage of the Colossus is such a strong talent right now and on Elise if you can land your cacoon frequently then it is a good option. Overall the talent is much better early on than the old Strength of Ages, which took time to build up for before it became useful. Going Thunderlord's Decree is still a strong option if you plan on playing aggressive early on, but I think the Shield from Courage is too strong to pass up.

Q>W>E is your new max priority! Which the new item runic echos you can poke way more efficiently than before with your human W, Especially if you build rylais+liandrys it becomes the most devastating poke you can ask for from a jungler, on par with nidalee spears because of how much aoe damage it can do. Basically what I'm trying to say is that if you dont max W second and you wait until very late game to max it won't be doing that much damage because you fall off late game, if you max it during mid game it becomes much more relevant than it would late game, so it is important to max it! Your E maxxed 2nd is definitely not as benefical as maxxing W second.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

99% of games I start talisman because the added health sustain from machete is not as important as the added mana sustain you get from Talisman early on. refillable potion most of the time unless you are trying to play aggressive, then I would possibly by 3 pots.
All 4 of these boots are great choices. Typically though the 3 I usually by are swifties tabis or mercs, because they offer a lot more combatwise than cdr boots do, but cdr boots are very strong. It's just that since you are building a lot of damage with Elise your boots can help pick up your slack. Swifties will help you dodge abilities and merc and tabi just make you straight tankier, which I value more over cdr, but you can definitely build cdr boots, especially if you have a team that is too tank heavy already.
(PRESEASON 7 UPDATE) I never build Cinderhulk because it is just not an effective buy on a champion like Elise, since she is not a tank, but rather a high HP assassin with ways off avoiding damage. Skrimishers is the best option of Elise right now because of the burn and you can proc it a ton when you are in your Spider Form W. Tracker's is still a good option as well if the support isn't warding effectively or at all.

Core Items

Super strong on Elise combined with runic echos passive, build this right after your jungle item and boots. Abyssal is very good right now as it gives you a lot of magic resist and AP along with a very nice passive that reduces MR of enemies. I would build this after rylais if the enemy team has a lot of magic damage along with a decent amount of MR. If they have little magic damage but a lot of MR, I would probably opt for void staff.
Now that Zhonya's is cheaper and gives some CDR I think it is an essential buy for Elise, especially now since it is much cheaper than it was in previous seasons. I would normally build zhonyas after Rylais if the team is more AD heavy or if the ADC is fed.

Situational Items

Strong item right now because it gives you tankiness and extra damage, and elise is a champion that usually gets involved in close combat a lot so the passive would do a decent amount of damage. I would generally not build this item though because randuins is just a stronger tank item and you should already have a lot of damage with rylais and iceborn/abyssal. If you feel that you can survive in teamfights then this might be an ok choice to do some more damage.
Very good snowballing item, but need to combine with rylais to use it to maximum effectiveness. I would only build this in two scenarios, first being you are snowballing very hard, because having a lot of health while snowballing is a very good since most people won't buy penetration items until mid late game. 2nd is if the enemy team has an abudance of tanks, this item is great for shredding them. Other than that there are better items to buy than liandrys.

VS

Amumu

Easy

you win 1v1, try and track his movements, be careful lvl 6.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Ekko got buffed so he is a little harder to lock down now, and especially if he gets runic echos he will be very hard to lock down. You need to take advantage of the early game to get your team ahead, his teamfights are very strong especially if the ekko knows what he is doing.

VS

Evelynn

Hard

Very strong jungler now that vision is limited to only trinket wards and pinks. You want to get green enchant to ward her jungle so you can track her. Doing this will help you alter your team where she is because especially in lower elos evelynn takes advantage of being untrackable. Her 1v1ing is ok, but be careful if she is snowballed, her damage can surprise.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Similar to Elise except scales very well into mid and late game. You can beat him in 1v1 situations early on, so try and pick good fights. Hes skillshot reliant so you can try to dodge his skills with your rappel if he uses one.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

He's very weak early on during his first clear, so you can take advantage of that by counterganking or ganking early on. Or you can try to find him in his jungle and kill him, since you can 1v1 him no problem. J4s love to gank so if you can countergank then they will be kind of screwed.

VS

Kindred

Hard

Very strong early game jungler, she can 1v1 you so don't all in her unless you have an overwhelming advantage like an extra teammate to help or she used her spells. DENY her stacks don't let her stack especially from your jungle.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

whoever strikes first will usually win. Skill matchup mainly because these junglers can outplay with their abilities very easily. Rappel his q if you think you can 1v1 him.

VS

Master Yi

Easy

wait for him to alpha strike then cacoon him. Weak early on so try and exploit his weakness by invading him or ganking lanes.

VS

Nidalee

Hard

A strong version of Elise early on right now, Need to be very weary of her damage at 3, if she lands the spear you are probably dead if you can't rappel the pounce so be weary. Try and gank your lanes as much as possible because nidalee will probably counterjungle you a lot and her lack of pressure on the map will be her undoing if she goes the Counterjungling route, even though she will be higher level than you.

VS

Nocturne

Hard

Very secret op champion, his W will gurantee block one of your abilities, try and make that ability cacoon that he blocks because you can still do a lot of damage to him with your other abilities. The best thing to do is to wait in a brush if you think he is going to walk a certain way so he has no time to react to your full combo, rendering his shield useless.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

Similar to nidalee but much weaker, he will try to gank lanes because he is one of the best gankers, so try and track his movements.

VS

Sejuani

Medium

need to get ahead of her early because her early game is where she lacks, if you dont get ahead early it might be a probably, but you should be able to relatively easy.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

you can kite her pretty well with your cacoon, she does a lot of damage early on so be careful. try and deny the scuttle crabs especially when she is tryinng to stack devourer.

VS

Udyr

Hard

Very annoying to play against, I always ban him so I haven't faced one in awhile but he will try to be annoying as possible. be careful at 1v1ing as he is a strong 1v1er.

VS

Zac

Easy

Strong ganker but his dueling potential isn't that strong. You can rappel his E if you think it is going to hit you, so outplay potential in this matchup.

Combos and Ganking Back to Top

Main combo( starting in human form): EQWRQAAW, this is the best combo for maximum damage for Elise. The only thing that can change in this combo is that the 2nd and 3rd spells can be swapped, lets say you land your cacoon max range on a target, you W first to let the spider gain some distance and then q because since the spider hasn't hit your target yet you are still getting max damage from W, and eventually once you Q in spider form the spider will fly to your target so the damage will be dealt.
Ganking from Spider form: EAAQAAW and then REWQAA. the reason you want to AA a lot is to get red buff (if you have it which you should when you are ganking) on your target to make it easier to land the cacoon.
Ganking from Human Form: You want to basically Q the target and AA as much as possible and then can use your main combo on the target. AA again to apply red buff to make it easier to land E.

About me Back to Top

I'm a Diamond 5 jungle main in season 6, was platinum for 2 years but finally got to diamond through stable internet. I main Lee sin Elise and Gragas, Elise being my most played over the course of season 4 to season 6. I've probably played 100 to 200 elise ranked games over that course and my winrate is around 60% with her, probably more. My summonername is frostyswag if you want to ask questions, thanks for reading this guide!
