Summoner Spells Back to Top

14.png is highly recommended as it gives you tremendous dueling power in lane and reduces the health regen of champs like Darius and anyone running Grasp of the Undying.  12.pngis not recommended as it ruins the entire point of playing a stealth champion, and Evelynn is not a teamfighter anyway.

4.png is mandatory.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

This setup gives Evelynn tremendous damage potential, focused largely on the physical, AA-based damage of her E evelynnE.png, which is her main tool of attack.

Bounty Hunter (Ferocity) and Wanderer (Cunning) both incentivize roaming to find kills in other lanes, which Eve excels at.

Fervor of Battle (Keystone) synergizes greatly with Eve's evelynnE.png, allowing her to get eight stacks with just E + Q + AA.

evelynnE.png (E) - Ravage
This is your central damage spell and must be maxed first.  It auto-attacks an opponent twice, scaling off both AD and AP, and gives Eve 120% attack speed(!) at rank 5.  The hybrid damage of this spell is incredibly high and will often catch your opponents off guard, turning a potential losing fight into a winning one.

evelynnQ.png (Q) - Hate Spike
This is your main farming tool and should always be taken at level 1.  It gives you additional range to bully melee laners and lets you farm at a distance against ranged laners.  In direct fights, you do not want to spam Q, as it's cooldown is shorter than the cooldown of Sheen; try to time your Q to proc Sheen with your autoattacks.  However, if they flee from you, spam it as much as you can.

evelynnW.png (W) - Dark Frenzy
Your engage and also your escape tool.  It gives you bonus movespeed and, importantly, REMOVES ALL SLOWS.  This ability renders the engages of champs like Nasus completely worthless, allowing you to dance around them Qing to your heart's content.  Additionally, the cooldown of W is lowered by 1 second for each spell you land on champions, so spam your Q when running away from pursuers to get that little burst of speed to get away.  Kills refresh the cooldown entirely, letting you chase multiple low health targets.

evelynnR.png (R) - Agony's Embrace (so emo!)
This is funnily enough your least important spell.  You will usually use it to open your burst combo (R + E + Q + AA), slowing your target and maxing your Fervor of Battle with just three spells.  You can also use it on multiple attackers to gain a large shield that will let you tank enough damage to get away from surprise ganks.

evelynnpassive.png (Passive) - Shadow Walk
You are invisible, use this to your advantage whenever you can.  Your enemy laner will often forget that you are in lane with them once you're invisible, allowing you to get a surprise flank from the bushes along the lane.  Or you can roam mid (checking all bushes for pinks along the way!) and gank their unsuspecting midlaner.  In the mid-late game, use your waveclear to push up a lane, then quietly wait for a squishy ADC or mage to push it back and blow them up.  Make sure to ward their jungle ahead of time to avoid multi-man ganks, Eve is fast but not tanky and will die quickly if swarmed.

This ability also gives you considerable mana regen when invisible, use it in lane to allow more Q spam.

28.png (Passive) - Evelynn Top
NO ONE PLAYS EVELYNN TOP.  There are no Mobafire guides to Eve top, no one makes Youtube highlights about her, even pros players don't troll their smurf games with her.  This is your biggest advantage: since Eve top is a complete unknown, your opponents will often underestimate you, thinking you to a be a troll or idiot ignoring the meta.  They'll accept your Q harass then walk up to you at half health and try to all-in you, unaware that your burst combo beats theirs.  Then they'll do it again thinking it was a fluke.  Their midlaner will forget you exist, right up until you appear behind them in lane.  You are an anomaly, a joke, right up until you're oneshotting their carries in the midgame.  Make them regret underestimating you.

Situational Items

Squishy carries escaping your burst? More slows!
Good defensive items (though feel free to experiment).
The key to winning the splitpush game.

Always start with Corrupting Potion.  The health and mana regen are good but the Touch of Corruption effect is just more damage for early game trades. Use it even at full health if you're going in for heavy damage or a kill.

You'll want to rush your Triforce as fast as possible, as it gives Evelynn her tremendous dueling power.  Start Sheen first as it synergizes with your Q, allowing you to spam Sheen procs on champions and clear minion waves quickly.  If you are forced to return to base without enough to first-buy your Sheen, buy a Longsword to build later into a Phage.

Once you have your Triforce, try to score a quick kill on the top or midlaner, and try to take their tower.  This should net you enough for a Tiamat, which accelerates your waveclear even more.  Once you have your Titanic Hydra (or Ravenous if you're feeling adventurous), you can take one of two options.

1. Splitpush
You'll want to buy a Zz'rot portal to keep the waves pushing in your favour, and it can also attract clueless carries into walking far out into lane by themselves - an easy target.  You'll want more AD for tower pushing so grab a Hextech Gunblade or Sterak's Gage, and finish your build with a defensive item.

2. Assassinate

This is closer to the standard way to play Eve, as a teamfight flanker and assassin.  You'll want a Hextech Gunblade or Frozen Mallet to slow down your targets, and at least two defensive items to survive retaliatory damage from the enemy team.  You'll may get trapped in the middle of the enemy team if they all retreat while you're behind them so a Guardian Angel may save your life.

VS

Darius

Medium

Keep your distance, you will need jungle help to kill him.

VS

Fiora

Medium

Don't let her hit your vitals, and be careful not to lose your burst to her parry.  Shutting her down early should nullify her power.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

His Q hurts, you may need to buy early armor.  Scout bushes while invisible for hidden barrels.

VS

Garen

Hard

His Q silences you, preventing you from evelynnW.png away from his E damage.  Play safe and run anytime he moves toward you.

VS

Gnar

Medium

Use your evelynnQ.png to farm early, once you have Sheen/Triforce you can duel him.  Wait for Boomerang on cooldown.  DO NOT fight Mega Gnar.

VS

Graves

Hard

His Q and AAs hurt a lot so keep your distance.  Wait for his Q to go on cooldown before attacking.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

You are faster than her tentacles so keep moving and keep your distance to avoid her W.  You can cleanse the slow from her E with your evelynnW.png and use the speed boost to avoid the tentacles that follow.

VS

Irelia

Hard

She can straight outduel you in a fight, especially if she gets her triforce first.  Do not duel her, roam instead and get kills elsewhere.

VS

Jax

Hard

He straight-up outduels you.  DO NOT FIGHT.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Her range, speed boost, silence and ultimate all make catching her, much less bursting her down, a tremendous pain.  Ganks are needed, otherwise roam for kills.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Spam evelynnQ.png, cleanse his Q slow with evelynnW.png, and all-in when he's low.  Avoid his ult.

VS

Maokai

Medium

His non-slow based CC make fighting him difficult, and once he has a defensive items bursting him down alone is near impossible.  Try finding targets elsewhere.

VS

Nasus

Easy

Evelynn is a hard counter to Nasus.  Use your Q to harass him while you AA minions and if he walks forward to farm, use your E and Q spam to get him low.  If he slows you cleanse it with W.  You should be able to kill him by level 2 with just Q and E + ignite.  Harass him constantly to deny him Q farm and he'll become useless.

VS

Poppy

Medium

Her CC makes attacking difficult, but not impossible.  Stay away from walls and dodge her charged ult with evelynnW.png.  If she itemizes defensively against you, you won't be able to kill her alone.

VS

Quinn

Medium

Early game she is a nuisance who can push you out of lane if you're not careful.  But get her from behind with a Triforce and she's just Another Dead Carry.

VS

Riven

Hard

You can go even against a decent Riven player.  A good Riven player will kill you.  Farm under tower and roam often.

VS

Rumble

Medium

Avoid his flames, and cleanse the slows from his E and R with evelynnW.png.  Wait for him to overheat before opening up your combo so he can't retaliate.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

Try to shove him out of lane with Q at level 1.  If you succeed, the lane is yours.  If not, it is his.  In that case, farm under tower until he hits 6.  You'll likely need to outplay a level 6 towerdive with evelynnW.png and 4.png.  After that you'll need to constantly push the wave to counter his splitpush pressure.

VS

Wukong

Medium

He has strong early damage and surprising range, so keep your distance early.  Bait him into using his clone then unleash your combo on the real monkey.

How To Play Hybrid Evelynn Top Back to Top

Hybrid Evelynn is a mid-game monster and is equipped with the tools to get there faster than your opponents.  She only needs one item, Triforce, to duel most toplaners, making her more of a bursty Irelia with more damage instead of CC.  She is also the queen of roaming, with her invisibility making mid and botlane roams unpredictable (as long as you check for pink wards!  Getting caught because of unscouted pinks will make you look dumb.  Also dead.)

The most difficult part of playing Evelynn in lane is learning to last hit with her Q.  The damage it does early is far less than her autoattacks and takes some getting used to.  Also important is using it to attack the enemy laner through the minions.  It prioritizes the nearest enemy champion, allowing you to hit both at once, but requires that you constantly readjust your position to line up the minions and enemy champ.  Most toplaners also have some form of ranged spell or gap closer, necessitating keeping your distance.  This means that the early game is like a boxing match, as you circle around your opponent throwing out light attacks (Q) and waiting for them to make a wrong step or throw a punch you can counter (with your R + E + Q + AA burst).

Against opponents who have more kill pressure like Riven, you should farm under tower and roam to mid or botlane and try to get your teammates ahead.  You will likely lose your tower but once it does the enemy toplaner will roam themselves, giving you some time to farm alone.

Once you have your Triforce and Titanic Hydra, you can opt for one of two playstyles:

1 - Splitpush your balls off.  Hybrid Eve is a splitpush monster and can clear waves faster than Tryndamere.  The 120% bonus attack speed on her E shreds through towers (though it can only be activated on minions and champions).
Buy a Zz'rot portal and camp a sidelane (warding the nearby jungle of course).  Become a massive nuisance to the enemy team by forcing them to answer and denying them teamfight advantage, lest they lose more towers.  If a squishy ADC or mage answers you alone, you know what to do.  If no one comes, hey, free tower/inhibitor/nexus.

2 - Play the traditional assassin.  Hybrid Evelynn is a single-target assassin (as opposed to the AoE monster of AP Eve) so she can't deal with large groups of enemies.  Instead, hide near your teammates and wait for a squishy to move out of position or try to flank your team and blow them up.
Or you can come from behind a teamfight already in progress and blow up the priority target before running away.  Or just wait for the fight to be nearly over and play cleanup crew with the stragglers.  Your team will resent you for that last one but it is effective nonetheless.

Regardless of the style you choose, remember that Evelynn is fast but not tanky and will die quickly and easily when collapsed upon.  Ward ahead of time and use your teammates and blue trinkets to scout out pink wards.
If all else fails, run away, since Eve's movespeed and W makes her incredibly hard to catch.

Notes from a Gold Player Back to Top

I am a low-Gold player.  PLEASE TAKE THIS GUIDE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.  I do not profess to know everything there is Evelynn and that this guide is the best way to play her.  This is just an off-meta idea I stumbled upon in one of Phylol's videos (this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWjVHRQOHOY), then tweaked and reordered until it worked consistently.  I can now consistently achieve high KDAs and carry games against players in low Gold, which is enough for me.  However, if any Platinum or Diamond players would like to try this build/style and refine it further, that would make my day.

This is also my first guide so any advice or constructive criticism is welcome.
