Summoner Spells Back to Top

Heal + Flash is normal for every ADC and is the best summoner spell combination in almost all cases.

Barrier + Flash can be viable against heavy burst champs like LeBlanc and Veigar because you can use it before they one-shot you.

Cleanse + Flash against very HEAVY CC like Fiddlesticks, Veigar, Leona, ...

Ignite + Flash if you go mid lane and want to have kill pressure.

Masteries Back to Top

18-12-0 is the best choice for ADCs right now. 12 points in Cunning because it amplifies your late game damage and gives you the better pots which also regenerate mana instantly. Besides that, you get the Dangerous Game mastery which is pretty good for 2v2 trades in lane and also later in the game.

Always use this skill order. Many Ezreal players do not skill W until level 8 or even later but it is actually very important because it is an easy way to get stacks for your passive which gives Attack Speed. Besides that you get an AA reset AND it procs your Sheen/Tri Force/Gauntlet!

Q: Main damage in lane and teamfights, try to poke as much as possible before fighting
W: AA reset, procs Sheen/Tri Force/Gauntlet. USE IT.
E: It is normally used as escape or to dodge skillshots like Varus' ultimate but it can be used offensively for the damage if you are 1v1 and do not have to dodge stuff...
R: Try to snipe people across the whole map and use it before teamfights or as cleanup. Can also be used as waveclear if you want to recall or even in a 1v1.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Always start with these items, no matter what.

Core Items

Build path 1: these are your core items. You can build BT or Botrk before Last Whisper but you should always build Tri Force and Muramana OR Essence Raever first.
Consumables are very good, always get HP pots if possible. Elixiers should be bought very late for important teamfights.
This build path called blue build is still very good on Ezreal but you have to be very good at him and you should be able to land your Q many times to make this build really work out. If you are new to this champ, I recommend using the other path instead.

Situational Items

Upgrade Vamp Scepter to one of these items, depending on what you need in the current situation.
You CAN also choose MR or Armor boots against 5 AD/AP Champs. Never go MPEN boots because your main damage (Q) does physical and not magical damage.
Situational defensive item. Get one later in the game, especially when you are ahead and should not get caught or you lose the game...
Get this after around 20-40 minutes, depending on the situation (do you need wards or do you have to check bushes/baron/dragon without facechecking?)
This is not as good anymore since mid-season 3 because Shiv only crits if your AA (Ezreal Q) crits, and the Q cannot crit.
Get one of these two, depending on your enemies (Mortal Reminder is good against champions like Fiddlesticks or champs who rely on lifesteal/self healing. Lord Dominik's Regards is good against many tanks.
Infinity Edge is a possibility if you do not need a defensive item or if you want to buy it late game to replace Muramana (can be good in certain situations).
This can work but there are just better items for Ezreal.
Viable if you do not go blue build. Obviously pretty good considering you get mana back and CDR is always helpful. However, you have to replace it with something and I think Muramana is better because you can get a tear early and won't have mana problems at all and when it is stacked, you have a lot of damage. You could also replace the upgraded Last Whisper item you would buy with Essence Reaver against squishy targets.

The thing about Ezreal is that you have lots of possibilities on what to buy depending on the current situation. Try to think about what would be best in your current situation depending on what your team needs right now to win the game and take as many things as possible into consideration, such as:

- enemy team composition
- your own team's composition
- need damage or disengage/cc?
- how do teamfights play out?
- who is going to be the first target you hit in fights?
- ...

VS

Ashe

Easy

Ashe's range is higher but you can farm easily with your Q

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

Well, Caitlyn has a 650 range which is 100 more than Ezreal but just like in every other matchup you can farm safely with your Q. Avoid being hit by her E and do not step into traps or she gets free headshots on you.

VS

Corki

Medium

Corki's burst is strong, especially after 6 but he does not really have kill potential on you as long as you do not get caught by the support/jungle's CC.

VS

Draven

Medium

Welcome to the League of Draven... Just farm and poke, avoid trades because his Q deals tons of damage. The good thing about it is that you can see where he is most likely going to go because he wants to catch his axe. Use this to your advantage and get free Mystic Shots in his face.

VS

Graves

Medium

He outbursts you and his passive is pretty OP so do not all-in him until you poked him a lot. Abuse his short attack range and reload times.

VS

Jhin

Easy

Jhin is a very new champ and is still being tweaked but at the moment you can win the lane by abusing his reload time after he used his auto attacks. Do not trade with auto attacks when he has his crit (4th auto) and avoid stepping into his E or he might root you, making you an easy target in fights. Just try to poke with your Q and do not stand in your own minion wave or he might hit you with his Q. If you play smartly, you can outtrade him but keep in mind that bot is 2v2 so you have to think about the support interactions in consideration of your own cooldowns too before you decide whether to trade or not to trade or even go all in.

VS

Jinx

Medium

Jinx can harrass you while hiding behind minions because of her very long range. Farm and try to get into a position where you can poke from the sides of the lane.

VS

Kalista

Hard

Laning against Kalista is pretty hard because she gets free dashes which makes hitting your Q much harder. Besides that she deals tons of damage because of her W and you should definitely try to avoid extended fights if you do not have burst potential together with your support.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

Kog is weak early and can always be harrassed when his W is on cooldown but avoid trading/going all in when it is up because at the moment it is extremely broken. Watch out for his Rageblade powerspike.

VS

Lucian

Medium

He has an advantage because he can use his poke (Q) through the minions but it is dodgable. Look at your own minions' health bar and you can guess when he is going to press Q and in which direction it is going to be used.

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

Try not to stand behind your own minions, especially when they are low or you get poked very hard by MF's Q.

VS

Quinn

Medium

Since Quinn's rework, her Q is really strong because it denies you a lot of vision. However, you can win trades and the entire lane easily if you manage to dodge her Q. Think about where she might throw it and be fast with your usage of Ezreal's E to dodge it and you are fine.

VS

Sivir

Easy

Her boomerang is really annoying but you outrange her so you can easily trade.

VS

Tristana

Medium

She outranges you after level 1 already and can harrass while hiding behind minions AND outscales you if you do not go blue build. Just farm and wait for your jungler to help.

VS

Twitch

Easy

Very immobile, easy to poke but has a lot of damage after 6 (you can just E out..)

VS

Urgot

Easy

Urgot is useless if you dodge his E which you can easily do with your own E.

VS

Varus

Medium

Has a higher range and can harrass through minions. However, he is immobile and can easily be ganked/hooked/whatever.

VS

Vayne

Medium

This is easy if you are very good at Ezreal but do not let her get 3 silver bolts on you and HIT your Qs (this involves a lot of prediction, especially if she is stealthed when she ults)

About the Author and the Champion Back to Top

Sorry, I stopped playing this game a while ago so this most likely won't be updated anymore.

----------------------

My name is Delezatro (also known as iNSUFiN or LdgsrR). I play on EU West and main AD Carry ("Marksman").
I am currently Master at ~100LP and still climbing. Even though I am able to play every ADC on a high level, I reached this ELO by playing almost exclusively Ezreal and Lucian.
Other than that, I am going to start streaming regularly soon, so you can follow me on Twitch and tune in to see me play Ezreal on http://www.twitch.tv/insufin.
I also have a YouTube channel where you can find several montages and gameplays by me.

In season 5 and 4 I stopped playing at Diamond 1, in season 3 I was Platinum 1 with 2000-2100 real MMR. My main champions are Vayne, Kalista, Ezreal and Lucian.

Ezreal is a very strong champ and is fun to play because of his great kit but he is not as easy to play as it may look because you have to hit your skillshots or you are not going to deal much damage. Ezreal can always get farm because of his long range Q, even if you lose the lane. His teamfighting is good as long as you hit your skillshots and his damage with Q and the E mobility are insane. Good supports to play with Lucian are Thresh, Blitzcrank, Sona, Nami, Zyra, Morgana, Janna and many others.

A note about the "Matchups"-section: All the matchups are situational and depend on your own skill and your enemy's skill. Supports also influence the lane by a lot.

A full Ezreal game @ Diamond 1 ELO recorded by me (going to upload a new one soon, this one is a bit outdated):
