Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash

Ezreal does have his Arcane Shift [E], however a second mobility tool never hurts. It can be argued that Ezreal is picked mainly for his safety as an ADC, however there is no other Summoner Spell that can compensate for his lack of damage compared to other ADCs in the late game. Flash allows you to reposition yourself effectively in fights or escape a gank/engage. This can also be used offensilvey to secure kills that would otherwise escape.
7.png Heal

Heal allows you to bait a fight and win a fight that you otherwise wouldn't. Heal is also used offensivley OR defensively with its movement speed buff. It's also more used as it can also heal your Support or others around you and also give them the movement speed buff.
21.png Barrier

Like Heal, Barrier will allow you to win fights that you otherwise wouldn't, and is a better pick when faced versus upcoming burst, such as an 103_64.png Charm [E] into an Orb of Deception [Q] or a 238_64.png's Death Mark [R] combo or Turret shots. Shields often offer more than heals. However, it doesn't support your team, and more often than not, is harder to use.
1.png Cleanse

Cleanse is a very different defensive spell that sometimes may be hard to use, and may make you feel a bit naked. Taking cleanse is good when the enemy has multiple Crowd Control abilities, e.g. stuns; slows; snares; roots. Cleanse has NO effect on suppression, knock-ups, knock-backs, grabs and fling abilities. Cleanse will remove the following effects: Blinds, Charms, fears (This includes Hecarim's ultimate), slows, polymorphs, silences, roots, stuns and taunts. Champions that can be hugely outplayed by this Spells include the likes of 4_64.png with his Gold Card [W] and the whole of 89_64.png's kit, mainly her Zenith Blade [E], though.

Here is a whole list of Debuffs in the game http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Debuff
3.png Exhaust

It's not very likely that you will need to pick up Exhaust yourself, since most of the time your Support will, however sometimes it is better to run 14.pngon Support and 3.png on the ADC because the support can go in, apply their CC and leave some secured True damage behind, while the ADC can deny movement speed, attack speed and damage whenever they feel they are in danger. This comes extremely handy in 1v1's, wether it may happen in split pushes, or when getting caught out. It's a great dueling and escaping spell.
14.png Ignite

Vice-versa to what I just mentioned, picking 14.pngyourself allows you to jump in first, while the support has jumped in with their CC, leaving the threat weak. With Ezreal's natural burst, Ignite will add further damage to a kill that may flee, escaping your spells and auto attacks.

Maxing order

R>Q>E>W

You obviously pick up ranks in your Trueshot Barrage [R] at levels 6, 11 and 16.

You want to max your Mystic Shot [Q] first and pick it up at level 1 as it is your bread and butter skill, your main source of damage at the lowest cooldown. This is what makes or breaks Ezreal players.

[W] is only considered a Utility spell for yourself and your allies. Apart from that you get Rising Spell Force stacks by hitting allies to give them attack speed and enemies to damage them (this does not work on minions) you can also get passive stacks by using your Arcane Shift [E] to jump into your Essence Flux [W]. You can also use W, like all of Ezrea's other spells to just charge the Sheen for your next auto.

Maxing [E] second, and putting a point into it at level 2 is very appropriate to have your aggresive/defensive mobility tool early. With your [Q], you can have a HUGE burst and outplay potential at level 1. Also lowering the cooldown on this ability is key.

I pick up my [W] at level 4 most of the times (unless I don't pick it until level 13, which is also viable] to increase my potential burst by a bit, and to give myself and my team (mainly my support) the attack speed buff. Giving the attack speed buff to the correct person can be HUGE when sieging or fighting. Notice how I say person, this is an AOE spell, so you can offer this to multiple people on your team.

In-depth abilities

Rising Spell Force [Passive] Ezreal_RisingSpellForce.png

In game definition: Hitting a target with any of Ezreal's abilities will increase his Attack Speed by 10% for 6 seconds. (This effect can stack up to 5 times, so 50% attack speed)

This is probably one of the strongest passives an ADC can have, as long as you hit your skillshots constantly and using your Attack Speed buff, your DPS will increase significantly. You can also get your 5 stacks of Rising Spell Force in an instant way by using Trueshot Barrage [R] on minions or in a teamfight. Remember, if you can't hit a [Q] for whatever reason, options still remain with your [W] to use on an ally or an enemy and your [E]. Don't forget to use this when sieging, the attack speed is very noticeable.

A huge from this ability is also to check brushes. If you don't see someone, but your abilties hit, you will be noticed by your Rising Spell Force stacks.

Mystic Shot [Q] Mystic_Shot.jpg

In game definition: Ezreal fires a bolt of energy, dealing physical damage that applies on-hit effects. Ezreal's cooldowns are reduced by 1 second if Mystic Shot hits a target.

This is one of the reasons why Ezreal is picked, for his safety. Your [Q] is 1100 range, this exceeds most of the range of ADCs and some CC spells, meaning you can be at a distance and still dish out consitent damage. When your Q hits, its cooldown will be lower by 1 second then when you would otherwise miss it. Hitting your Q is also important to reduce the cooldown on your E and R, making them seem back on rotation faster then they would normally be. Your Q is on such a cooldown that your Rising Spell Force passive should be up a lot of the time.

Don't be afraid to use this to farm, as its mana pool isn't also very high, however you will run out of mana at some point. Try for the most part to use this to poke and trade.

Mystic Shot applies on hit effects, so it's going to proc 3078_32.png's  3057_32.png to do TONS of damage, 3044_32.png for the movement speed buff, being able to kite for days, 1053_32.png lifesteal, 3035_32.png 3134_32.png Armor Penetration, 3031_32.png3086_32.png Critical Strikes and Damage, 3025_32.png the AOE slow, 3022_32.png the slow like the old Phage, 3087_32.png and of course, the magic damage from Statik's. Also don't forget about the boot enchantment 3252_32.png3277_32.png , acting as a second Phage to make you even better at kiting and being slippery and Red Buff.

Ezreal should be looking to win the game from Early to Mid game, sometimes late mid game. However, during the late game you may be wondered to see that you will not do as much damage to everyone as you did before, apart from the enemy ADC and mid laner unless they have itemized accordingly. This will call onto needing to buy 3153_32.png3035_32.png to survive the late game and not be completely useless, your Q should still do work with these purchases.

Pro tip: don't cancel your auto attacks to use a Q as this is a huge loss in DPS.

Essence Flux [W] Essence_Flux.jpg

In game definition: Ezreal fires a wave of energy that damages all enemy champions it passes through for magic damage. Allied champions hit by it have their attack speed hasted (or increased) for 5 seconds.

Ezreal's W has long been changed and no longer reduces enemy attack speed, however it still remains a strong skill, just not as much for AD Ezreal, however godly on Midzreal/Magereal.

As a base damage, Essence Flux does indeed do more damage than Mystic Shot, however this doesn't benefit you very much as the only AP you will get most of the time will come from 3057_32.png and it is a very mana hungry ability. Only use this when sure. However, this is a good long lasting utility spell even with 1 rank into it, as this will help you take towers and objectives with ease. Think how goldy this attack speed increase is on things such as 11_64.png5_64.png19_64.png23_64.png24_64.png77_64.png126_64.png266_64.png254_64.png. Free 40% attack speed to become monsters.

Arcane Shift [E] Arcane_Shift.jpg

In game definition: Ezreal teleports to a target nearby location and fires a homing arrow at the nearest enemy unit, dealing magic damage.

This is 4.png on a lower cooldown, with a bigger range that can teleport over most walls AND does damage. Isn't that AMAZING?

Be careful when using this aggresively, as you may just end up being baited, jumping in and then a roam or a jungle gank happens from the fog of war and you are left with your pants down without your [E]. Also, this spell costs 90 Mana. Having to use this a lot in the early game can eat your mana pool and is on a fairly high cooldown with only 1/2 ranks into it. Having to use this let's say 2 times because of poor positioning/pathing and or simply not paying attention will leave you to the mercy of your pitiful auto attacks.

With this you are supposed to dodge key abilities, and make the enemy waste key ones. You will put the enemy threat at a disadvantagious position since you will shift away when the threat comes flying to you, leaving them go back to nothing, and you repositioned ready to face-roll them. 39_64.png comes to [Q] and [E] you? No problem!

The difference between an Ezreal and a god tier Ezreal is the difference between knowing how to use your E offesnively for its damage alone, additionally lining up for your Mystic Shot and Trueshot Barrage, and Arcane Shift has a lot of base damage.

Pro tips: As mentioned, your E will allow you to jump over most walls, and almost doubling the distance you would normally jump, because of how blinks work. Also, Ezreal has special interactions with abilities such as 53_64.png's hook, 27_64.png's flip. You can take away such important cooldowns as these by just shifting at the same time the CC has been used. You will take the damage, but will still be able to blink, being stunned a bit in some situations before being able to normally walk again. There is no travel time so you can't get interrupted by knock-ups or other forms of CC midair like many other champions. However if 412_64.png lands his Death Sentence even though you have Shifted away, then RIP my friend.

Trueshot Barrage [R] Trueshot_Barrage.jpg

We're getting there.

In game definition: Ezreal channels for 1 second to fire a barrage of missiles dealing magic damage to each unit it passes through. However, it deal less damage for each unit it hits.

Key thing to note here when Ezreal supposedly "channels" his ult. If let's say you are ALREADY casting your ult, and scumbag 89_64.png and 67_64.png walk up to you to say "Hi." your ult will still wreck them. It will not be canceled, as to the likes of a 30_64.png Requiem or 9_64.png ult where they would be canceled.

In lane, there are two ways to use Trueshot Barrage. One being to clear minion waves, by clearing, I mean reducing the creeps' HP and then clearing them up with your attack speed from your passive. Ezreal's ult doesn't abysmal damage if behind or on-par with the enemy team.

The second use is for an all-in either started by you or your nice support who landed their CC. Try to use your ult in this situation by not hitting minions (this is hard, and it doesn't matter if you do hit creeps, just try not to) since your ult does less damage with the more units it hits. Outside of lane, landing your whole combo consisting of R>[Q/E] /W will NUKE someone. Single target = High damage. Along side with CC of a 412_64.png89_64.png143_64.png you are ready to go!

In teamfights just try to use this on as many targets as possible to do your AOE damage and start your passive up, try to lower the HP of a threat, and kill escaping threats at low life.

Pro tip: This is a global ult that gives vision, you know what that means! You are on the lookout to snipe targets and buffs across the map. You can also check if Dragon/Baron are up respectively. You won't lose a teamfight if your TrueShot Barrage isn't up, and you will get it off of cooldown fast anyway by landing your Mystic Shot. Purchase the 3342_32.png at level 9 (or when you can, don't buy it earlier than level 8 so you can make the most of the buff it gets with range) as a small 2.png for secure vision and not a waste of your [R]. Upgrade it fully when you have gold left around.
If you see someone is low life, they are most likely going to go in a bush or near their turret if you know they are low but however have lost sight of them.

Cool fact. it takes 8 seconds for the Trueshot Barrage to fly over from one base (fountain) to another.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

The starting times of all ADCs. Offers AD, Health and Lifesteal. All the things you need to survive the early game. Keep your dorans, or buy another, as it's 3% lifesteal is very handy mid game. It's good to be sold after your first Lifesteal item, but even then it's a good keep.
These are the items that you need to get very early on that will build into your Tri Force. Sheen 1st for damage, or Phage 1st for survivability.

Core Items

Here come's the power spike and where the fun begins! You decide wether you want Attack Speed on your Ezreal, or Cooldown Reduction. Make up your mind from what you have selected in your runes and masteries. Also for boot enchantment, you can get Alacrity for the movement speed, Homeguard for when you are behind and need to get out of base fast and Furor when you want to be kiting and running faster than before alongside your phage.
Your build should look something like this and you can stand up on your feet even better than before with the help of BotRK. After your BotRK you should ask yourself if you need the snowball effected of Last Whisper AND the enemy has purchased Armor OR you buy the IE which grants good AD and critical damage+strike The reason why BotRK is bought is that so can Ezreal can actually have a chance while fighting someone, with it's passive %hp damage, and it's active to steal movement speed and gain health. The build so far is Tri Force > Boots > BotRK into one of your items, for the mid game, and then completing the other. I personally go Last Whisper as my 3rd item (not counting boots)
Your 6th item, if you want damage, can be one of these spicy choices. BT will help you with damage and a huge sustain accompanied with lifesteal and a shield. Essence Reaver will help you with damage, lifesteal, cooldown reduction, and a bit of mana on auto attacks. A bit of a weak item, however still strong. Statik Shyv will offer you attack speed and wave clear. Black Cleaver will give you further armor penetration and health. Don't listen to anyone when they say "Don't buy 2 sheen items" because it DOES work, and Gauntlet on Ezreal is pure bliss with its kiting potential. Mercurial Scimitar is overall a good item that does damage, give MR and help you from debuffs such as Zed's ult and offer you movement speed.
This should be your item build MOST of the time unless you want to throw in Cheese. As mentioned, if you have enough gold, sell your boots for a Zephyr.

Situational Items

As a 6th item however, I usually like a defensive item, mostly being a Guardian Angel for its stats and ressurect or a Banshee's when abilities are flying everwyehre and I need MR. Hexdrinker is a viable MR item that gives AD when needing it when fighting a mage on the enemy team. Omen is a very selective 1v1 defensive item that also has good utility. Zhonya's is not a bad item on Ezreal, it's a Guardian Angel, but you activate it when you want. Also, it's not bad on Ezreal since he has VERY good scalings on his abilities, and will take enemies by surprise.
Please do not build Blue Ez (unless you really want to <.<) as your damage will happen very mid-late into the game. You want to be ahead with your damage, not behind! Late game is too late to achieve your full potential!

I don't want to bore anyone with talking about items, as they only need to be summed up.

Alistar

Easy

A champion that counters Ezreal is one that will out range him in and out of lane, can go all in on him, make his Arcane Shift be used and out trade him. (I wrote this out of anger as I have added details to all the match ups but the text was not saved). A champion Ezreal finds easy to play is one that he can outplay by dodging their damage, engage or simply engages first.

If Ezreal is forced under his turret and pushed out, he will struggle to come back up, but it's hard for him to do this due to his non existent wave clear.

If you have any questions about my match-ups just ask in the comments and I will get back to you.

What makes Ezreal weak? Back to Top

This is a continuation from the match ups. I am sorry I do not have detailed reasons why I think certain match ups
work the way they do (my lolking page randomy refreshed, killing all my text) If you have questions about my  reasoning behind these match ups write a comment. :)

So...

Ezreal Synergies Back to Top

Ezreal can work pretty much with any support, but the support's criteria is split up in 4, and should usually fill 2 in order to be a strong pick together, however that 1 unique criteria is good too.

  • Ezreal needs sustain when trading and poking, this will be achieved wit the help of sustain/armor auras along side heals and shields.
  • In order for Ezreal to achieve a good combo, he will need some starter CC for a good chain of damage.
  • Ezreal needs a body guard, as any sort of engage, displacement or simple all in that he cannot control will ruin him. Additionally if he is getting poked down he won't be able to stay in lane
  • Ezreal has non existant wave clear apart from his ult, which is not a reliable source, he needs someone to keep the lane in the middle, or if sure, at the enemies turret.

So supports that work better than other with Ezreal are:

37_64.png267_64.png for a sense of poke, sustain, engage and disengage.

143_64.png161_64.png1_64.png25_64.png for a sense of poke and engage. These supports win very hard at level 6 and that should be abused.

412_64.png53_64.png201_64.png89_64.png for a sense of engage, disengage and peel.

26_64.png117_64.png40_64.png43_64.png this is for a sense of poke, a bit of engage, a bit of sustain and HUGE survivability and mobility.

Introduction Back to Top

Hi, my name is Zenia with my IGN being Zenia is Taken on EUW. I am a Platinum Bot and Mid main, prioritising 81_64.png in the AD Carry role, along side 236_64.png and 42_64.png. Notice how I don't use the word Marksman, I hate it.

Ezreal has been one of my favourite champions for a long time now and won't get tired of his High Risk - High Reward gameplay with outplay possibilties left and right. While Ezreal can also be played Top, Mid, Support and even Jungle, I still prefer him as an ADC. While there are certainly better Ezreal and ADC players than me, I feel like I know how to handle him and create a guide on my vision of playing him.

This guide is pretty long, so if you just want to skim through that's fine, but I suggest reading everything, so take a snack and listen to some music. :)

Why is Ezreal good? 81_64.png

  • He is extremely safe with his Arcane Shift [E] and his long range abilities.
  • Good, constant poke.
  • Gets a huge power spike in the Early-Mid game when his 3078_32.png is complete, such as the likes of 42_64.png.
  • He has a great follow up burst with Crowd Control spells.
  • He is really fun to play, seriously. :)
Why is Ezreal not good? 81_64.png

  • His damage is very low when behind, and will struggle to come-back until he hits a 6 item build, however Ezreal shouldn't let a game go on for that long, as he is naturally weaker in the late game, with his Mystic Shot [Q] will be tanked by the front-line.
  • Has almost no guaranteed match-up he will win without outplaying.

I have had win-streaks with Ezreal, but not quite as good as this one. My Ezreal ranked match history is found here: http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-history/EUW1/30365123?champion=81&matchType=2&map=1
