Summoner Spells Back to Top

  • 12.png Teleport allows Gangplank to jump into a fight to help out his team, along with many other great uses make it a staple.

  • 4.png Flash is an extremely powerful summoner spell, allowing you to get a kill or live most of the time that It's used.

Masteries Back to Top

My main page:
       Ferocity:

  • Sorcery: Very useful as Gangplank is primarily a caster.
  • Feast: Good for sustaining health in lane.
  • Natural Talent: Small and simple boost to damage and slight healing to W
  • Bounty Hunter: Potentially 7.5% extra damage, typically averaging at at least 4.5-6%.

      Cunning:
  • Savagery: I typically start out with Doran's Ring or Corrupting Potion on occasion, providing assistance to lack of early AD to aid in CSing.
  • Assassin: Extra damage to any amount of enemy champs while no allies are nearby, expanding on Gangplank's solo capabilities.
  • Merciless OR Meditation: Merciless is more general, granting more damage to enemies on less health, whereas Meditation is excellent mana upkeep for the early/mid-game for better poke and farming.
  • Bandit: Key to any Gangplank mastery page. This rewards you with 10 gold for poking the enemy in lane (this will typically be with Q, sharing a close cooldown timer). Also gives you a small amount of passive gold when other allies are taking farm.
  • Intelligence: Capitalizes on one of the main stats Gangplank abuses.
  • Thunderlord's Decree: Decent for out-trading enemies in lane, but mainly used for massive burst in coordination with Cannon Barrage (ult) along with the 3902.png(Death's Daughter) upgrade.

Trial by Fire
STATIC COOLDOWN: 15
Trial by Fire

INNATE: Gangplank's next basic attack burns the target, dealing 30 - 200 (based on level) (+ 100% bonus AD) bonus true damage over 2.5 seconds and granting Gangplank Trial by Fire2 30% bonus movement speed for 2 seconds. Turrets receive 「 50% reduced damage 」.

Trial by Fire cannot be applied with Parrrley.png Parrrley or Powder Keg.png Powder Keg, but destroying a Powder Keg.png Powder Keg instantly readies Trial by Fire and grants its bonus movement speed.

A very powerful and versatile passive, Trial By Fire is one of Gangplank's main tools to win trades due to It's mini-Ignite damage. Abuse this ability while farming/pushing with Powder Keg (E) to reset it for maximum efficiency.

Things to note:

- Trial By Fire does NOT apply on Q or E, only on basic attacks.

- Trial By Fire stacks with similar movement speed bonuses (Such as the Phage effect).

- Work around this with E as much as possible.

Parrrley
RANGE: 625

COST: 40 MANA

COOLDOWN: 5
Parrrley

ACTIVE: Gangplank shoots the target enemy with his pistol, dealing physical damage and applying on-hit effectsParrrley can Critical strike icon critically strike.

  • PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 20 / 45 / 70 / 95 / 120 (+ 100% AD)

  • PLUNDER: 「 Gold 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 」
If Parrrley kills its target, Gangplank plunders gold and Silver Serpents.png Silver Serpents, the latter of which can be spent to upgrade Cannon Barrage.png Cannon Barrage.

-Always max this first as It is your general farming/poke tool, and applies on E. Try to abuse this with Powder Keg (E) since it applies Plunder gold to each minion killed by E. Try to have a balance between poke and farm with this ability, rather than focusing on one.

Remove Scurvy
COST: 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 MANA

COOLDOWN: 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 / 14
Remove Scurvy

ACTIVE: Gangplank consumes a large quantity of citrus fruit, removing all crowd control affecting him and healing himself.

  • HEAL: 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+ 90% AP) (+ 15% missing health)

-Remove Scurvy should always be maxed last as It's rank-ups are all pretty weak compared to other abilities in Gangplank's kit.

Decent for In-lane sustain, but usually best saved for CC or healing up below the 50-40% HP threshold due to It's increase in heal based on missing health.

Remove Scurvy cleanses all crowd-control effects, but does not remove status effects (Ahri Charm, Exhaust, Airborne allowing you to do anything but move, etc). Keep in mind this ability has a 0.25 second cast-time, so saving it for the last moment Is usually a bad idea.

Powder Keg
RANGE: 1000

COST: 1 POWDER KEG

RECHARGE TIME: 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10
Powder Keg

PASSIVE: Gangplank stores a charge of Powder Keg periodically, up to a maximum of 3 stored at once.

ACTIVE: Gangplank places a Powder Keg at the target location, which lasts for 60 seconds.

  • The explosion sets off a chain reaction that explodes other connected kegs, regardless of their current health, though enemies will not take damage from kegs beyond the first. If gangplankqwrapper.png  Parrrley was used to detonate the Powder Keg, the explosion plunders every enemy it kills.

-Does bonus damage to champions
-Ignores 40% armor
-Slows for 40% (lasts 2 seconds)
-Lats 60 seconds

-A very complex ability, Powder Keg Is the way for Gangplank to combo his passive and Q to win fights and enhance pushing. In-lane, this ability should be used to farm and zoning, while the damage or poke should be a secondary.

-For poke, you have to use this ability smartly, placing more than one barrel in cunning spots or in quick conjunction.

-For pushing, place a keg behind the enemy's turret, abusing your Passive on the turret before resetting it by destroying your Keg on incoming enemy minions.

-Against enemies who like to jump on you to trade, always try to keep a barrel surrounding you to zone them away.

-Against ranged opponents, use Powder Keg as a distraction for CS, and a zoning tool against the enemy jungler.

Things to remember:

The amount of barrels you can place are effected by Ult ranks.

Powder Keg is fairly weak early, but scales extremely well as the game goes on due to Gangplank's ult.

Cannon Barrage
RANGE: Global

COST: 100 MANA

COOLDOWN: 180 / 160 / 140
Cannon Barrage

ACTIVE: Gangplank signals his ship off-shore to fire upon the target area for 8 seconds, calling down 12 waves of cannonballs in clusters of 3 every 2 seconds, and Sight icon revealing it for the duration.

Each wave deals magic damage to all enemies hit and Slow icon slows them by 30% for 0.5 seconds.

「 MAGIC DAMAGE PER WAVE: 35 / 60 / 85 (+ 10% AP) 」

Gangplank can purchase upgrades for his ship in the store at the cost of 500 Silver Serpents.png Silver Serpents each, which improve Cannon Barrage:

  • Death's Daughter item.png DEATH'S DAUGHTER: An initial cannonball lands in the center of the barrage, dealing a cluster's worth of true damage to all enemies it hits and Slow icon slowing them by 60% for 1.5 seconds.
  • Raise Morale item.png RAISE MORALE: The barrage grants allies 30% bonus movement speed while they are inside the area, persisting for 2 seconds after leaving it.
  • Fire At Will item.png FIRE AT WILL: Cannon Barrage fires 「 6 additional waves 」 over its duration.
「 TOTAL MAGIC DAMAGE: 420 / 720 / 1020 (+ 120% AP) 」

-This Is a very powerful ability that grants global presence and assistance whenever It's up. Try to save this for your allies rather than using It in your own lane for whatever reason.

Always keep track of your allies whereabouts and healthpools, If you see their health randomly fall, look at their lane ASAP and be prepared to ult.

ULT UPGRADES:
  • Death's Daughter: This will grant you a lot of extra instant true damage on your ult, making your ult better for burst, assassinations, and teamfights. I typically rush this.

  • Fire At Will: This upgrade allows Gangplank's Ult to fire off more Cannons, and fire them quicker. I prefer to get this as my second for mid-game, allowing massive amounts of damage from the Fire At Will upgrade.

  • Raise Morale: Raise Morale grants a very powerful movement speed boost (25%) to all allies in It's AoE. I prefer to get this as my final upgrade for late-game for better engage/disengage.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Decent sustain, makes rushing Sheen easier.
Typical starting item for mana upkeep/farming.
I typically purchase these on first back due to the nature of my GP playstyle. This is intended to farm and scale much harder a little later rather than spiking early in lane.

Item Explanations:

(Please keep in mind these are all just my opinion)

Starting Items:

  • 2033.png Grants great sustain and insane trading potential, making it a very powerful early-game boost. It's use also lasts a long time, unlike many early-game items due to the way potions work during this season, along with the free damage boost on use. I prefer to pair this with Grasp of The Undying.

  • 1056.png Allows for a much easier time in lane, adding a lot of early health, and the capability to farm/poke easier with It's passive mana regen and mana on unit kill. I prefer to pair this with Thunderlord's Decree

Why not start off with a 1055.png?

Although It gives great stats, I feel that Gangplank doesn't benefit from the lifesteal enough, and that the tradeoff in damage is made up with the mana upkeep 1056.png provides. 1055.png Is a more aggressive purchase, In which sense 2033.png Is typically better for that on Gangplank due to the damage output and sustain It provides.

Core Items:

  • 3078.png Gives Gangplank everything he needs the most, while being very effective early-game, making It the best early-game item for him, and probably the most essential item for him above all others.
Trinity components explained (Talking about them in Trinity Force, not the items themselves):

  1. 3057.png Insanely increases damage, helps with early mana issues, and boosts CDR a decent amount.
  2. 3101.png Great synergy with Barrels, allowing to hit them easier at the early levels where the tick rate is slow. Also boosts CDR greatly.
  3. 3044.png Gives some decent health and AD, and a great movement speed passive, similar to Gangplank's passive, which gels with his kit nicely.

  • 3142.png Extremely powerful boost to damage and utility.

  • 3031.png Enhances what Gangplank Is all about: Crit and damage. Infinity Edge Is a very simple yet important purchase.

  • 3087.png Is a great boost to crit, and provides a decent boost to damage with It's passive.

  • 3053.png Adds a ton of health on top of 3078.png, and a passive that makes it more difficult to burst Gangplank, all while adding a decent boost to base AD, which will heavily increase 3078.png damage, as 3057.png works off of base AD.

  • 3036.png/3033.png One of these should be purchased when armor penetration Is needed over defense. Both have decent damage and great penetration, along with situational passives to choose from depending on the enemy team's status.

  • 3156.png Is a very powerful situational item. It's decent AD boost, insane shield, and small boost to armor pen make it the typically better purchase over other situational items against AP heavy teams.

  • 3046.pngIs a very powerful tool for Gangplank. While it doesn't add damage, It grants an incredible amount of utility with each stat/passive.

VS

Aatrox

Easy
Difficulty: 4/10

Aatrox Is fairly squishy and doesn't have much burst to out-trade Gangplank. Winning lane is only a matter of avoiding his aatroxE.png (E) poke, playing passively once his aatroxW.png's (W) effect is up and knowing when to stay away from him past 6. Otherwise, It's very easy to dominate the lane with heavy poke.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy
Difficulty: 5/10

Cho'gath has great laning, so just focus on farming over harass.

Keep in mind his rupture.png (Q) will knock you up followed by a slow, so using removescurvy.png's on his knock-up will not help. Save it for his slow that comes afterwards.

Abuse your barrel for extra range while CSing to avoid his constant poke.

VS

Darius

Medium
Difficulty: 7.4/10

Darius Is a very simple match-up, but difficult to manage as he can insta-kill Gangplank with one combo. Your goal is to wait out the lane phase, so save raisemorale.png (E) for defensive purposes in-lane.

If you get hooked by his Apprehend dariusaxegrabcone.png (E), save Oranges for his dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png (W)'s slow, as both only last 1 second.

When fighting Darius, always keep in mind that his dariuscleave.png (Q) will heal him for 15-30% of his health (Increases based on missing HP), and is on a pretty short cooldown. Your goal is to kite around him as much as possible since he's quite immobile.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy
Difficulty: 3/10

A simple farm lane.
Mundo is a very tanky and sustains extremely well while dealing decent damage. Just keep away from him and farm up your Silver Serpents. Try to pull the minions to your tower and farm safely.

VS

Fiora

Hard
Difficulty: 9/10

Fiora Is an extremely powerful laner who spams often.

Fiora's  fiorariposte.png (W) Is going to be a key factor in lane as it can deflect Gangplank's Keg's. Riposte has a long cooldown so spamming Keg's to trade or zone Is good.

When Fiora hits you with her fioraflurry.png (E), you have to keep in mind the first attack Is a slow, while the second is a critical hit, so cleansing the slow won't help you avoid the crit in most cases due to It's cast-time.

One of the most Important things about laning against Fiora is her passive. Whenever you see it on an easy-to-land spot, avoid her or attempt to out-smart her with well placed Keg's.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

why are you playing blind pick

VS

Garen

Easy
Difficulty: 6/10

Garen is very powerful when near, but doesn't have too much mobility to reach Gangplank. All Garen's love to rush onto people with their garenslash3.png (Q) for movement speed, so always have a barrel around you so that when he rushes towards, you can simply slow him down with a barrel and speed yourself away from him.

-Garen's ult deals more damage the less health you have, so always try to stay healthy.
-If Garen does get close to you, abuse your passive to shred his health and kite him.

VS

Gnar

Easy
Difficulty: 5/10

While Gnar is in his mini-form, abuse your parley.png (Q) and save Keg's to waste his time or zone him.

While he's in mega-form, simply juke around his abilities and abuse your passive and Keg's. Gangplank wins all trades with Mega-Gnar If played properly.

IN-LANE:
-Avoid his 3rd strike
-removescurvy.png his gnarQ.png's slow
-Try and abuse your raisemorale.png  and passive while he is in Mega Form.
-Have your jungler gank him, bait his gnarE.png (E) beforehand
-Poke him after dodging gnarQ.png (Q)

VS

Irelia

Medium
Difficulty: 7.5/10

-Never extend trades, simply abuse passive and raisemorale.png (E) and walk away when trading with Irelia.

-Always save removescurvy.png for her ireliaequilibriumstrike.png(E)'s slow/stun as It's the only way she can win a trade against Gangplank without ult.

-Zone her away from minions with Keg's

- Keep in mind her ult does massive damage, so It's best to keep trades very short and distance yourself properly.

VS

Jax

Medium

Difficulty: 7/10

Jax has good harass and wins most trades where he gets his 3rd strike off.

Laning against Jax, always surround yourself with a Powder Keg for two reasons:

  1. Jax can leap onto Gangplank's Powder Kegs (._.). This will allow you to explode the keg before he destroys it with proper timing, and if you don't, you can still get decent harass off with passive and Q.
       2. Jax players love leaping onto their opponents for harass, so this will not only                zone/scare him away, but can possibly punish him for trying to harass as well.

Do not linger in trades with Jax, an in/out tactic is best in this lane.

VS

Jayce

Medium
Difficulty: 7/10

Jayce Is a powerful toplaner who has a ranged form to counter Gangplank's barrels. Against Jayce you have to stay on your toes and be prepared to dodge incoming cannon blasts while waiting for ganks. Once Jayce goes into melee form you can typically out-duel him If raisemorale.png is used properly.

VS

Kayle

Medium
Difficulty: 7.4/10

Stay back and safe-farm until you get your first core item, then start poking her. Kayle can easy take out your Barrels due to her ranged form ability.

-Use removescurvy.png on her slow ASAP, a good Kayle will try and hammer you down immediately after
-Keep track of her Ult's cooldown (100/90/80)
-Never extend trades due to her passive

VS

Kennen

Medium
Difficulty: 7/10

Kennen has great harass and burst, so your goal is to match his harass and out-sustain him in-lane.

How to avoid Kennen's harass:

Staying behind minions to avoid Kennen's kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png (Q) is easy enough, but the most important thing is his Mark of The Storm (Passive) and his  kennenbringthelight.png (W). They synergize together for easy harass.

Your goal is to keep track of the stacks, on him and yourself. Every 5 basic attacks, Kennen will be able to apply his Mark of The Storm onto you, which will then allow him to harass you with his kennenbringthelight.png. Once you see him with 5 stacks, play passively.

Now focusing on his Mark of The Storm stacks, keep in mind he only needs 3 of them on you for the stun, and that all of his abilities (kennenbringthelight.png applies it every 5th auto-attack) applies it.

VS

Lissandra

Hard
Difficulty: 8/10

Lissandra has good range and high damage output not to mention CC and escape. Just try playing defensive and assisting other lanes.

-When she all-ins you, save removescurvy.png for her ult, not her snare.
-Avoid her lissandraQ.png (Q) range

VS

Malphite

Easy
Difficulty: 410

Malphite has decent harass while building full tank. Simply focusing on farm is the best option.
When trading, save your removescurvy.png to cleanse the attackspeed slow from his landslide.png (E)

VS

Maokai

Easy
 Difficulty: 5.6/10

Similar to Mundo, Maokai is very tanky and is usually un-killable. The difference here is that Maokai has less sustain but more damage, making the lane a bit rough at times. Your goal, like against Mundo, is to simply out-farm him and wait out the lane-phase.

VS

Nasus

Medium
Difficulty: 6.6/10

Spam barrels on your minions to deny him CS, poking him down with barrels and passive spam as much as you can. Save removescurvy.png for his wither.png (W), and play a bit safer when It's on cooldown. Once you've pushed to his turret, have your jungler ready for a counter-gank while you abuse your barrel's range to continue denying the dog his treats.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

Difficulty: 4.6/10

Nautilus has very low damage, but super heavy CC, meaning he's going to rely on his Jungler to kill you, so that's the most important thing to keep track of in this lane. When trading with Naut, make your passive a priority over your raisemorale.png, allowing you to use parley.png normally in trades as well instead of trying to harass with parley.png+raisemorale.png. Save removescurvy.png for his slow rather than his passive snare.

VS

Olaf

Medium
Difficulty: 7.4/10

This is a very harsh lane as Olaf wrecks Gangplank in every trade while building tanky, and is extremely hard to poke due to his great sustain and tankyness. That being said, he doesn't have much mobility, so your goal in this lane is to play safe and out-farm him.

It's all about his olafaxethrowcast.png (Q). You want to stay at a safe distance in this match-up, otherwise making his olafaxethrowcast.png much easier to land which will then chunk you and slow you down. Even when staying at a safe distance, your goal is to simply avoid his olafaxethrowcast.png's, which can prove to be difficult.

Instead of using Kegs to harass or zone, use them as a defense tool to avoid him getting too close and to freeze the lane easier.

VS

Pantheon

Hard
Difficulty: 8/10

- The best thing to do in this lane Is wait for ganks or for the lane to end. Pantheon will punish you heavily for trying to CS, so don't worry about losing farm.

- Use ult to help other lanes.

- Keep in mind he has 100% crit chance if you are below 15% health.

- Abuse 12.pngto help your allies.

- Always stay aware of his location as It's extremely easy for him to gank a lane with his ultimate. Let your allies know he's most likely coming and abuse this time to farm.

VS

Poppy

Hard
Difficulty: 8/10

Poppy has great dueling power with utility from her passive and E, along with insane damage granted from her kit. Her downfall in this match-up is her range. She doesn't really have unavoidable damage, but can destroy very easily if given the opportunity. Avoid getting near any wall when fighting her, and spam parley.png while her passive shield is not on.

VS

Renekton

Easy
Difficulty: 5/10

Renekton has decent sustain and trading potential, but he's easily out-traded by passive/barrels so long as you avoid his spell spam. Prioritize spamming your passive against him over Barrels, unless he's dealing too much damage to you. Don't overextend all-ins If he has ult.

VS

Rengar

Medium
Difficulty: 7/10

This lane Is mostly about control, mostly for brushes, but also Rengar's aggression. Abuse Kegs in brushes, never in the lane, because:

  • All Rengars LOVE hiding in bushes for the entire lane to CS, or do anything in general.

  • Rengar can jump onto Kegs, and If he does, he does damage to them which makes it extremely hard to use them in lane properly.

Keep up wards and control over brushes to start being able to win lane.

Play around his Ferocity stacks, once they reach max you have to play a lot more passive.

VS

Riven

Medium
Difficulty: 7/10

Riven Is a lane bully who thrives off of laning phase, so she can be quite difficult. Gangplank out-sustains her and can typically out-trade her, but If Riven gets a proper all-In onto Gangplank the fight is pretty much over, so play it smart.

Riven can block most of Gangplank's barrel damage with her rivenfeint.png's shield, so prioritize using that as a bait for her shield to abuse your passive on her.

-Riven's get cocky so easily, so abuse her cooldowns and spam.
-Beware her massive mobility
-Don't removescurvy.png her knock-up
-Respect her power-spikes
-Don't fight her while your health is anywhere close to low

VS

Rumble

Easy
Difficulty: 5/10

Avoiding his rumbleflamethrower.png (Q) and rumblegrenade.png (E) harass is crucial

Your goal is to work around his rumbleshield.png's as it has a low cooldown, making it very spamable. When Rumble blocks part of your raisemorale.png damage with his shield, rush in to apply passive and parley.png to win the trade. The same tactic applies if he is using in an attempt to secure harass on you.

Above all, keep track of his Passive meter. If It's in the yellow, avoid his as much as possible as It gives his abilities heavily enhanced effects. Once it reaches the red zone, use Q for free harass, and If he tries to attack you, apply your passive and sprint out of his range.

VS

Shen

Easy
Difficulty: 6/10

Shen has some great dueling power with his shenvorpalstar.png and shenshadowdash.png, along with good defense from his passive and shenfeint.png. The key Is to simply avoid his extremely short range and stay away from his Q passing through you.

VS

Singed

Easy
Diifculty: 5/10

Singed is extremely easy to poke, but has decent damage and sustain with his Item build and ult. Focus on abusing your passive more than raisemorale.png, as you want to save some Powder Kegs for when Singed tries to attack you, making it extremely easy to get away from his trading/all-ins. If Singed Flings you into his megaadhesive.png (W), it will snare you, so be aware of when to save removescurvy.png for that.

VS

Sion

Medium
Difficulty: 6/10

The key thing about this lane is to avoid all of his spells.

When fighting/trading with Sion, always move around him to avoid his  crypticgaze.png (Q) much easier Also remember that if he is in a brush, you won't be able to see him casting crypticgaze.png

If you see one of your minions on low health, Sion is likely to use his enrage.png (E) on it to poke you, so you need to be ready to dodge that.

Sion sets up for ganks extremely well with his kit, and Gangplank can be ganked extremely easily, so never overextend and abuse more wards than normal.

VS

Swain

Easy
Difficulty: 4/10

Swain can bully pretty well and sustain health lost, so to make the lane easier, rush 3123.png. It Is the key factor to dominating this lane due to It's grievous wounds. After purchasing, play much more aggressive.

-Save removescurvy.png for his swainshadowgrasp.png (W).

VS

Teemo

Medium
Difficulty: 7/10

Try to save raisemorale.png for when he trades, making it easier to land them.

-Note that his blindingdart.png's blind does not effect your parley.png
-Watch out for bantamtrap.png(R) when going all-in, otherwise it could go very bad.
-Don't be afraid to use cannonbarrage.png for extra damage

VS

Trundle

Medium
Difficulty: 6.5/10

Trundle has amazing sustain and out-trades Gangplank most of the time.
Your goal is to simply freeze the lane and outfarm him. Trundle has no ranged poke and is pretty easy to gank.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium
Difficulty: 7.5/10

Trynda Is a very powerful lane bully who will typically be spamming slashcast.png (E) and auto-attacks to trade with you. To possibly out-trade him, place a barrel slightly behind you as his spin will most always end up there. Never extend trades with Tryndamere If he has a decent amount of rage.

-Tryndamere is a very strong 1v1 champion, so don't ever try and 1v1 him if he has ult or a high rage bar.

-Hugging the tower is a good idea after level 6 If he Is dominating, since he can't poke you while you do. Just freeze the lane and wait for a gank.

VS

Vladimir

Medium
Difficulty: 7/10

Vladimir has a ton of poke and self-sustain. Rush 3123.png to reduce his insane sustain, and bully him into playing less aggressive.

VS

Wukong

Hard
Difficulty: 8/10

Try to wait out the early-game until 3078.png is purchased as Wukong has great laning.
-Abuse your raisemorale.png's by placing them around you, this way if he dashes in to poke you can heavily punish him.

-Poke him down with parley.png's.

-Out-sustain him with removescurvy.png.

VS

Yorick

Easy

[OUTDATED, will be updated once I have more experience against this champion.]

Introduction Back to Top

Hello, my name is Wonderboy and I started playing League pretty early in Season 2. I started to main Gangplank around mid-Season 3, making him my main in Ranked as well. I hope you enjoy my guide and win some games with it.

Barrels! Back to Top

Gangplank's main source of damage comes from his gangplanke.png. He revolves around his kegs to be effective, which Is also where his large skillcap comes into play. Part of being good with Kegs means knowing when to save them, and how to set them up based on different situations.

How to adapt: If your barrels are being taken down by ranged enemies too quickly, place the barrels at a safer distance and chain them together for an easier detonation process rather than putting yourself and your Kegs at risk.

GP has 3 main uses with gangplanke.png:

1. The single Keg: This Is typically here to waveclear, zone your enemy laner, gain movement speed from detonation, or to chain~

2: The double Keg: This Is a chain of two barrels used to increase the range and decrease counterplay from your opponents. This Is great for farming at distance or harassing enemies at any stage in the game.

3: The Killer Keg (that's 3): This Is the setup of 3 kegs chained together for a huge range increase that Is extremely effective, but more difficult to pull off. For this one you specifically want to be standing in between the first and second barrel. This will allow you to shoot the first barrel and place a 3rd as they go off.

Early-Game Laning/Trading Back to Top

Early-Game Farming:

Spamming Q on your lane opponent Is usually best during the early-game as you won't be getting many Serpent Stacks until Trinity Force is purchased anyway, but against sustain-heavy laners It's best to just abuse Q for the gold gain.

Save your E for:

  • Zoning enemy laner
  • Poking them down
  • Hiding them In bushes to possibly escape ganks, surprise poke, or to avoid the enemy destroying them.
----------------------------------------------------------
TRADING:

Try to abuse your passive as much as possible (By also abusing E to reset it), since It's a mini-Ignite.

While you are farming, there will always come a time where you or your opponent will want to trade, When this happens, try and keep in mind which champion you're trying to trade with. Champions with high damage and sustain are difficult to trade with and should just be out-farmed.
Against melee champions you want to zone them with your E, while against ranged champions, outplaying your E's mechanical ability against them is key.

Jungle Synergy Picks Back to Top

JUNGLE:

This is a list of the (In my opinion) Junglers that synergize best with Gangplank's disadvantages and advantages. This champs will be ranked as follows (Best to worst): S,A,B,C,D and F.

Please keep in mind this is just for synergy, the listed Jungler could be top tier but be on an "F" level because they don't synergize with Gangplank's advantages or make up for his disadvantages.
  • How good their initiation is, because Gangplank lacks that very heavily.
  • How good their CC is, as Gangplank has no hard CC and doesn't have too much CC in general, and because the better the CC, the easier the barrels are to land.
  • How good at being the frontline they are, as Gangplank is usually squishy or beefy and can't tank.

"S" level synergy picks:

32.png Synergizes with Gangplank's ult better than any Jungler.
  • Initiation: 10
  • CC: 8
  • Hard Tank

113.png CC machine.
  • Initiation: 9
  • CC: 10
  • Hard Tank

154.png Not quite as good when compared to Sejuani, but Naut allows Gangplank to use Barrels easier.
  • Initiation: 9
  • CC: 9
  • Hard Tank

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A" level synergy picks:

Great ult synergy, but just not quite good enough to be on the "S" tier.

  • CC: 9
  • Hard Tank

  • Initiation: 5

  • Initiation: 7

"D" level synergy picks:

62.png The only synergy here is that Gangplank's ult helps out Wukong's.
  • Initiation: 7

  • Tanky

56.png Good initiation, tanks fairly well, but that's about it.
  • Initiation: 7

  • Initiation: 0
  • CC: 0
  • Squishy

35.png no.. why... stop..
  • Initiation: 0
  • CC: 0
  • Extremely Squishy

Tips to Remember Back to Top

  • Gangplank's Passive is similar to the effect of  3151_32.png, as it is a DoT. That being said, if there is a tower involved it will hit you even if you aren't attacking your opponent so long as they have your Passive on them. (Q does NOT apply it)

  •   Gangplank's W will remove any CC that was on him at the time of use, so while fighting an enemy try to always save your W for when they use their CC on you UNLESS you need it's heal to live more than anything OR if you want regen lost health from a trade or a mid/late-game poke.

  • Gangplank's E Is a  powerful farming/harass/zoning tool and Is what his kit centers around. Typically you want to be playing around this ability In conjunction with your others.

  • Gangplank's ult has many uses, for example: Wave clear, Utility, damage, but most importantly Gangplank's ultimate is a global ability, so keep aware of your allies in trouble or enemies escaping with 1hp. Throughout the game, you should be deciding when to use this to help allies in a fight, or when to use this to split-push minions globally.

  • BE AWARE. Watch what your enemies cast and try and juke around at every turn, also be aware of the map and areas that are not warded.
