Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png+12.png Is the best option (Ghost works aswell)

New Runes Back to Top

RUNE PAGE 1: The Standard Bankplank runes, I've pur resolve as secondary which gives sustain. Sorcery is also a valid choice depending on the matchup. Resovle 2nd for survivability and sustain and Sorcery for a more aggressive lane. In the sorcery tree I would recommed Ultimate Hat/Manaflow + Scorch/Celerity.

RUNE PAGE 2: The GraspPlank runes. Works well into difficult lanes, graps helps you get more sustain + extra poke. I would still use Kleptomancy in most matchups, but versus champions like Vladimir Grasp is a good choice.
You can go both Sorcery/Insight as secondary, I prefer Sorcery in most matchups.

ALWAYS MAX Q!!

Don't throw points in Remove Scurvy since it scales with 15% missing healt (It was good to put 2/3 early points on as OG Gangplank)

Barrels depend on your Q for damage.

It doesn't really matter if you upgrade 3901.png or 3902.png first. Death's daughter is better versus Champs that can easily escape your ult such as lb and ezreal

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Great Starting for Gp, gives extra heal and mana regen.
    Almost ALWAYS RUSH THIS
    Faster Sheen powerspike
good item if you can't afford Sheen 1st back or if you got both Sheen and cull.
You can also buy refillable potion and upgrade to corrupting on 1st back.
Bandit was removed in 8.5 but the gold/10 was doubled (from 2 -> 4). Relic still works as a defensive gold item.

Core Items

    THIS IS YOUR MAIN ITEM
These are all good, take the one that suits you and the matchup. !! If you have a VERY tough lane vs AD champs rush Tabi before anything else !!
This will Greatly Increase your Damage
Great for chasing and tons of damage.
In tough games buy TRI -> Steraks -> Youmuu.

Situational Items

Great item for survivability vs burst and gives lifesteal + cdr
The best MR items for GP
Great Armor item, Effect procs on Q
More crit and increases the non-barrel damage.
Good lifesteal item with high damage, can replace death's dance
    Great for dueling
    Good Crit Item

3033.png/3036.png I do not recommend buying these, your barrels already have the 40% armor peneteration. Mortal reminder can be good against a Heavy healing team.

1056.png+ 2x2003.png + 3340.png -> 3057.png -> 3078.png ->3009.png -> 3363.png(lvl 9) -> 3901.png -> 3031.png -> 3053.png - >3142.png ->3902.png -> 3087.png ->

3147.png  ->3903.png

Remember that the ult upgrades depends on how much farm you have, they are simply there to show you my preferred upgrade order.

NOTE: Never blindly follow a build, ADAPT your items to your opponents!!

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Have Barrels Close-by and punish him when engaging.

VS

Akali

Medium
Use barrels to take her down in the stealth, just farm otherwise since they will most likely be building tank and soaking your damage.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

Just farm, he will heal up and be super tanky.

VS

Darius

Medium

Do not get Close to him and don't let him get 5 stacks, kite him and poke him down.

VS

Diana

Medium
Make her Life a living hell pre 6. When he gets 6 use your barrels to punish her for engaging. Buy hexdrinker/Specter's Cowl if you need a defensive item.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy
You will most likely not be able to kill mundo, maybe in the first 3 lvls. Just farm and play safe.

VS

Ekko

Hard

Ekko can easily get to your barrels and trade well, play safe and farm.

VS

Fiora

Hard

She can parry most of your damage and punish you hard, play safe and don't try to fight her.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Fizz is very strong 1v1 and can Dodge your barrels. Try to bait his jump and poke him down.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

It's all about the skills

VS

Garen

Easy

Keep poking him and don't let his passive activate.

VS

Gnar

Easy

Poke him down when he's in mini form and kite/remove cc when he's mega.

VS

Graves

Hard

Graves can easily take down/Dodge the barrels and he's super strong in 1v1 fights, stay away from the walls and farm.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

VS

Illaoi

Medium
You can fight her but doge her spells, if she gets a clone of you try to deny her if you can. Otherwhise run ;)

VS

Irelia

Medium
You can take Irelia down early and late game, be careful of her powerspikes mid tho.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

VS

Jax

Medium

Jax is a very strong champion 1v1 and can easily get to your barrels, don't use Q when he Dodges and time your W perfectly.

VS

Jayce

Medium

VS

Karthus

Easy

karthus does have a lot of damage but is also super squishy early, destroy him with your barrels.

VS

Kennen

Medium

Just Dodge the skillshots and poke him down.

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Lee sin is strong 1v1 and has good sustain, focus on dodging his Q.

VS

Lissandra

Easy
Use W to negate the cc and if she keeps winning trades get a Specter's Cowl.

VS

Malphite

Hard
Malphite is a mountain, he will soak your damage and outsustain you; Just farm.

VS

Maokai

Hard

Maokai is VERY strong in the current meta, use grasp of the undying to keep your Health up. If you absolutely want to fight him Ignite reduces his heals.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy
Zone him out and kite.

VS

Nasus

Easy

Kite him and poke him down, take away his slow with W. Never forget about his ult when going ham.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

Nautilus is very tanky and deals a lot of damage, poke him down with q + barrels and fight when he's low.

VS

Olaf

Medium

You can poke Olaf down and keep your Health up as long as you Dodge the Q's. Be careful of olaf's that use 6.png+14.png they will go ham lvl 2/3.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

Pantheon can block most of your damage, has Heavy poke and will make your Life miserable. The only time you can fight is when he's low on mana.

VS

Poppy

Hard

Poppy deals tons of damage and takes none, just farm.

VS

Quinn

Medium

Quinn is pretty tought to lane against, but since you can take away the blind she's an easier version of graves.

VS

Renekton

Medium

Renekton does deal Heavy damage and heals alot, just play safe and kite him.

VS

Riven

Medium
Riven can Dodge and destroy your barrels easily, the only way to win fights is simply by outplaying her.

VS

VS

Sion

VS

Teemo

Easy
Don't underestimate Satan-sama, he has sick burst. Just poke him down and force him to b.

VS

Vladimir

Hard
Vladimir can poke you down and has great sustain. I would recommend rushing 3123.png

VS

Yasuo

Medium

Yasuo is very strong 1v1 and can deny your Q. That said, he is very hard to play and you should be able to take down a normal Yasuo. If the Yasuo is very good just farm.

VS

Zac

Medium
Just poke and don't underestimate his damage and you should be fine.

Critplank Back to Top

Critplank is the all-out full damage crit build, you will deal shitloads of damage and delete any squishy opponents. If you get ahead in lane, there's no assassin that can OS you critplank is really good.

Example Build for Critplank
3078.png3031.png + 3009.png or3158.png + 3046.png+ 3087.png + 3508.png or 3142.png (essence for boots of speed and youmuu for cd boots.)
Note that both will give 40% cdr but only the essence will give 100% crit (Youmuu will give 80%)

This is just an example build and does not show the build order (Always rush triforce tho

Midlane Gangplank Back to Top

Gangplank is a very strong pick in the midlane (considering mages are often more squishy than toplaners) but you will most likely be forced to buy hexdrinker/Spirit Visage. Stormraider's Surge works well in midlane and makes it easier to all in vs ranged mages like azir and twised fate.

Since you're closer to top/mid Teleport will be weaker and something like4.png3.png/6.png/14.png is better.

The build the same (except some mr) as toplane GP and the Masteries/Runes are also the same.

Jungle Gangplank Back to Top

Starter Item
1039.png + 3x 2003.png If you start red side.
1041.png + 3x 2003.png for Blue side start.

Jungle Item
I compared the damage between these two.

1400.png = Cloud Drake (lvl6)      Veigar(lvl9 with 48 armor)
           lvl3Q: 239                    lvl5Q: 194
           AA: 152                       AA: 107
          Q+E: 233                      Q+E: 307
1416.png = Cloud Drake (lvl6)      Veigar(lvl8 with 48 armor)
           lvl3Q: 251                   lvl4Q: 166
           AA: 165                      AA: 94
          Q+E: 176                     Q+E: 212

Note that Bloodrazor deal 4% of target's maximum hp as bonus damage on AA hit (that includes Q) and will scale better into the late-game. Red/Green/blue smite doesn't matter, Go for Red/Blue if you do not NEED wards.

You can also ignore the jungle Item and rush 3078.png after 1041.png + 3x 2003.png

Go for Q > E > W and Kite with the E + passive movementspeed/slow.

Tankplank Back to Top

The old Gangplank was very good as tank/bruiser, he had high damage with his Q and E passive dmg and he could get out of cc. In many situations playing bruiser gp was better than full crit becuase you had to get up Close and Q also procced Iceborn which made it easier to chase. The new Gangplank does work as bruiser/tank but I do not recommend it. The barrels will not be able to one shot Waves with gauntlet instead of Trinity and you will not be able to zone as hard with Barrels. Most of the times your main damage will be barrels and they COMPLETELY rely on your Parrrley and critical chance.

Tankplank is still viable but not as effective as it once was and I would recommend going critplank with a maximum of 2 tank items.

Here is an example full build if you feel like playing tankplank

3009.png + 3025.png + 3748.png + 3742.png + 3065.png + 3053.png

Q proqs AA  effects such as iceborn, dead man and Titanic.

Mentality Back to Top

NEVER GIVE UP!

Gangplank is a BEAST late game, even if you're 0/10/0 you can still deal shitloads of damage late and destroy their backline. Just farm up and wait for Trinity + infinity.

This Match is a perfect example of this: http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/2702948348/22732179?tab=overview

I got completely destroyed by jax and Yasuo but I still had 16 kills, most farm and most damage. (Our Zac was a beast tho).
