Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png-Flash is a must on Gangplank. You have no escapes so you need this spell. It will save you when you get ganked or if you need to escape over a wall. It also will help you if you need to flash+Q someone for a kill secure.
3.png-If you are an experienced Gangplank player I would recommend taking exhaust in every lane matchup. It will give you a boost in 1v1 potential and will do wonders late game. 
12.png-After teleport nerfs I never take this anymore. Gangplank isn't a champion who can tp into teamfights while split pushing or tping behind  4 enemy champs. I can see this working in lower elo/gold and below. Stay away from TP unless you are gold or below. 
14.png-I would take this versus healing champ like Vlad and Swain or if you are looking to dominate the lane. I would take this 1/100 games if to mix things up a bit.
11.png-Don't get me wrong...Jungle Gangplank is pretty good ever since the jungle item buff. Just sit back and afk farm till triforce and then team fight.

For your ultimate upgrades, purchase in this order-

3902.png-More burst early. Combined with Thunderlord's you do dank damage.

3903.png-This is utility and has kind of no use. If you team fight under it I guess it gives a slight MS advantage.

Starting Items

    I take this 90% of the time. Dorans gives you that early HP and helps with early mana problems.
    If it is a hard lane and I need to rush Trinity Force ASAP I take this. Also this is the recommended top lane start.

Core Items

    This is your bread and butter item. It gives you the CDR, and sheen damage. Once you get this, you should be able to one shot the caster minions.
    These are the boots you get. With the 10% scaling cdr, cdr boots won't be needed. These boots cost a lot more but bring more to the table compared to cdr boots.
    This is your armor penetration. After Trinity Force crit nerfs I take this. Choose between LDR and Mortal reminder depending on enemy team comp. THESE ITEMS ARE A MUST HAVE!
    If you plan on getting critical chance, these are the items you choose. I prefer shiv due to more damage.
    If you need to survive in team fights get one of these. if you want defense items get steraks. it provides damage and survivability compared to the other items which are pure defense.
    STAY AWAY FROM THESE ITEMS!!!!

Situational Items

    This build gives you a ton of AD and suvivability. I like this build alot and it works a lot better in higher elo because its cheaper and gives you a better mid game.
    ionian boots is a must if you are going crit build. if i am extremely fed i tend to go this route. it gives you big crits and dueling potential with anyone in the game. other than the infinity edge, this build is dirt cheap due to double zeal items.
    This build gives you great mid game and a potent late game. if i'm doing bad early game but somehow get a big lead mid game after youmuus completion i go this route.
    experimental build. no scaling cdr for this one.

Her E makes her AA's insta so your barrels will be useless laning phase. Her ult will negate your barrel dmg in a 1v1 and she has the slows. GLHF WITH THIS ONE.

His shield will gangbang your Q early on. You won't get that much +10 from hitting q's. He has stupid poke, a stun which you can orange but it has shorter CD so be wary, and a crazy all in/tower dive. he has global pressure too. KYS if you play vs this.

If he goes Q level 1 just /ff @ 20 or play super passive level 1 because YOU WILL BE HIS BITCH LEVEL 1.

Gangplank is prone to dives and early all ins due to him being squishy and having no escapes. Denying him barrels also kills him because it is a core part of his kit and damage. These champs have better all ins, counter your barrels, and/or out sustain you in lane. 


COUNTERS
8.png50.png-These two champs out sustain you. I would take ignite early and try and punish them pre-6 by spamming q's and and forcing them to 1v1 you. Post 6 its all on outplay and their level of out sustain.

Top Lane

2.png24.png54.png62.png58.png80.png39.png157.png122.png92.png10.png133.png114.png- This is alot of champs...I know... These champs will destroy you in lane if played properly. They out damage you in the 1v1 and can dive you no problem. The since most of them are melee, barrel denial will be hard but they will destroy you. Just play passive, poke with Q for the +10 gp and rush your trinity force. Play for late game because you will be a god post 25 minutes. These champs are meant for top lane. It's a long lane and most likely going to be an island. GLHF vs these champs.

Mid Lane

7.png90.png238.png268.png131.png69.png91.png112.png105.png-These champs have a lot of damage. Most of them are good roamers too. I recommend building somewhat defensively vs these champs. Maw/Steraks is a must. When they roam ping your team mates and quickly shove the wave. Remember you have your ultimate to negate their roam. Use your ult early if it looks like the enemy mid is going to have a successful gank to zone them away from your team mates.
