Summoner Spells Back to Top

This is standard on every top for a good reason. It works well to give you map mobility, return to lane, and flash to escape. But try to use tp only to go to other lanes keep an eye on the minimap and be ready to tp if they get ganked. A good tp play can turn around a game.

Masteries Back to Top

This works well for sustain with grasp and general tankiness with the rest of the tree. I go for cunning next as it helps you farm, do damage, and bandid gives a surprising amount of gold from the cs you miss (or others farm) and from easy autoattacks. It adds up.

gnarpassive.png This is the most important part of playing Gnar. You have two forms ranged and melee. The Ranged form has one of the lowest base stats in the game, melee is one of the highest. So you want to go in when you hit mega. Play safe and poke when you are mini. Mini you also get speed, and attack speed so it helps depending on the situation.

gnarQ.png Max this first. It gives you a lot of damage and poke. With mega it doesn't come back but the cooldown is lower (still lowers if you pick it up). Make sure to catch the boomerang as if you miss it you lose a lot of damage.

gnarW.png This is a lot of damage when you get 3 stacks. Make sure to get the stacks off. When you go mega it's a stun. This is very important as part of your combo. Ideally you throw it into the wall and then follow up with the stun and then a q to the face!

gnarE.png This is an escape or an engage depending on your mood! You hop if you jump on something while mini or when you're changing into mega.

gnarR.png This passively helps your q cooldown. The main ult is when you're mega you can throw the enemy teams. If you get them into a wall it stuns them. This is an amazing teamfighting ult and a good one will win you the teamfight.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This is a good start for more poke, sustain, and some damage
If you're really scared of the lane this is safer.

Core Items

This is your first buy. It gives you all the damage you need and it cuts down on enemies armor for your adc and any other ad damage dealers.
Go for this one if you are against multiple crit champs.
Good damage it gives and a lot of health and armor solid item.
Gives you extra speed while still being good tank wise.
Good as a split pushing item make sure to use on the sidelanes (and then don't stay in the lane push another) Make sure to pay attention to the range.
Good for sustain and health and mr.
This is good against people with one spell that'll wreck you. I.e blitz hook, nid spear etc as it only blocks one spell.
This has a nice active to help in teamfights.
This gives you good sustain and a ton of health.
This is really good for some soft cc to your autoattacks and some damage and health.

Situational Items

Against multiple autoattack champs these are good.

Your main build is black cleaver into a tank build. The items you build depend completely on the game and whose fed. Don't have just 1 build path. Understand what the items do and then tailor it to the game you're playing.
