Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png&11.png are the pretty basic spells. You can take 3.png if you are facing a jungler like Xin, or you have very little CC on your team(for example you are the only one with it, and if support is not the best one). 14.png is used mainly when you don't have ignites on your team and the enemy team has for example 36.png or 106.png, champions with a lot of rehealing.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

You should be running these masteries most of the time as Gnar in the jungle, you could run 0/12/18 but it's not preferable. Not going to get in dept with them because they are pretty basic. You can swap them as you like.

You can also do 18/0/12 or either 18/12/0 running Fervor Of Battle.

gnarW.png is NEEDED on him. It helps him WAY too much in the game with the clears, you ARE going to die unless you get it. Otherwise pretty basic order of R>W>Q>E.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Basic jungler's start.

Core Items

You need this for the AS I talked earlier about. You get around 1.44 or more depending on what you are running and the constant slowls help a LOT when teamfighting and dueling. Choose between Warrior and BR
This should be your full build.

Situational Items

Basic swap items you can get. Hurricane suggested by TSM Dyrus Gnar.
I removed it from the core build after some people suggested it's not that good, you can still use it if you like to.

VS

Hecarim

Medium
120.png is a medium match-up againts Gnar, maybe even hard. Early game Hecarim has the advantage, late game you should be able to outscale him and team should focus him and ADC.

VS

Jax

Easy

Fairly easy match-up. He does have jaxcounterstrike.png&jaxleapstrike.png but you can out-trade him early/late game.

VS

Lee Sin

Easy

Very easy matchup early game, late game you should be able to out-trade him with your gnarW.png and put him to low hp so he run's away/blindmonkrkick.png's you.

VS

Rengar

Easy

SUPER easy match-up, he does have rengarE.png&rengarR.png but it won't affect you at all. You can damage/CC the hell out of him and he won't even realise it. Your gnarW.png and AS item's do A LOT againts tanky/non-tanky champs.

VS

Udyr

Medium

Medium match-up. He has his udyrbearstance.png to chase you/run away. Early game he will probably invade you so make sure to ward your camps. Late game again, it's easy because of the AS items

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

Medium match-up when againts him, you must take your blue and red quite fast and watch out when you encounter him. He has a lot of mobility and damage with xenzhaosweep.png&xenzhaobattlecry.png and a knock-up with xenzhaocombotarget.png which can dominate you. He might not engage with xenzhaosweep.png but wait until you gnarE.png. Late game you should win via help of team

LoL Terms Back to Top

>This is for players who don't know the terms in LoL(probably fairly new)<

CC - crowd control
AA - auto attack
SS - when an enemy is missing from a lane
CD - cooldown

These are the mains one I use in this guide.

Pros and Cons of Gnar Back to Top

PROS:

- You have a lot of CC most of the game.
- Easy to play but hard to master
- GREAT teamfighter(because of gnarR.png)
- Constant slows with 3022.png.
-You are playing a cute ancient Yordle, who doesn't like that?!

CONS:

- Gnar has 2 playstyles/kits which makes him hard to master.
- Rage meter can be game-changing in both ways - good or bad.
gnarR.png needs a lot of practise to land good, game-changing.

Jungle Route and Early-Game Jungling Strats Back to Top

You should and most likely should start to the red-side, not even depending which team you are. Do it, taking golems, red and wraths. Be careful, kite ALL of the camps as much as you can, 150.png early game IS squishy, and you get in Mega Gnar after red(to restore HP, it's around the end of red where you are able to transform). You might die from red/wraths so that is why you need to kite. gnarW.png helps you a lot, with the help of gnarQ.png after you reach level 2. When you take red, you should be already transforming so go to wraths and Mega Gnar gnarQ.png them following up with his W, AA the small ones before going to the big one. After that you can try and gank mid/top/bot(depending on side, bot is NOT recommended early game). After that you can try to do wolves or either recall to restore HP and get the tier-2 jungler's item and then go to the blue-side. Take wolves and grump and ask the mid-laner to come and get first blue(Gnar is mana-less)(this was suggested by Attack on Gnar). After that it's the ganking/taking camps.

Ganking Back to Top

Now ganking can be a bit lackluster sometimes depending when and how you gank. Players who jungle should know when and who to gank, but for new junglers this guide IS NOT recommended, anyways. Ganking should be for the lane who is struggling the most(for example 61.png is having problems againts 74.png and is losing a lot of HP) or gank the winning lane for them to get fed. Choose your own playstyle. Late game is mainly team-fighting.

>THIS IS BEFORE YOU REACH 6<

For example, you finish red-side camps and decide to go mid with let's say 50 Rage(passive), you can go in, use gnarE.png following up with gnarQ.png and that's all, like all you can do unless AA. You simply get almost no CC after those, your gnarQ.png and gnarE.png are on CD.
The proper way to gank is for examle finish red-side camps, go to scuttle and fill up your rage to around... 90-99(if you can) and then go to lane, use gnarE.png to engage and follow up with AA's and a gnarQ.png. You then enter Mega Gnar where you have more CC abilities and you can use your W to stun them(if in range ofcourse). The laner who you gank for should be able to finish them.

>AFTER YOU REACH 6<

After level 6 you get gnarR.png... Probably the most beautiful and cool thing to use(If you are good with it), you NEED atleast 80 rage before you gank, maybe even 70(if you are able to AA more). Disclaimer: You can do this when you are going to be transforming and gnarE.png following up with gnarR.png. You go, gnarE.png, AA with a gnarQ.png in the middle of it and use your gnarR.png to stun them, following up with the Mega Gnar's W to CC them. Your laner IS going to help you anyways, so most likely a secured kill/assist.

About Me Back to Top

My name is Alexander and I am a League of Legends player from the start of Season 5. I live in Bulgaria. I got Gnar around the mid-end of the season and I loved him. I'm currently Silver 3(as of writhing this guide) but soon in my Silver 2 promo's. I love yordle champions including 68.png and 150.png mainly.
