Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png

Great escape / engage. On a relatively low cooldown. Ghost isn't needed on Gnar because of gnarw.png, so flash is the spell you want to take.

12.png

Allows for better roaming, and you can easily recall and get back to lanes after teamfights or dragon. A really good spell so you don't miss too much CS in lane.

Masteries Back to Top

18 / 0 / 12 - The reason we go down the Ferocity tree is that Gnar isn't a mage nor assassin, so he doesn't need the cunning tree, he can only proc CotC in mega form so it is completely useless in laning and while chasing, and Grasp of the Undying isn't very good on ranged champions, and isn't worth going into the resolv tree for on Gnar because of his synergy with Fervor, and Snoneborn Pact is a mastery I only like to use when we have at least 2 attack speed sustain champs, but we're better off leaving it to a support...

Natural talent [4/5] - Gives you an even better late game  as Gnar has the tendancy to fall off, and allows for a bit more damage, as gnarw.png scales with AP, and everything else scales with AD.

Vampirism [1/5] - The reason we take only 1 point in Vampirism, is that it is not all that useful late game. Natural talent scales way better every level than a little bit of lifesteal will on a tanky bruiser. This isn't necessary, but it does allow for just that little bit of extra sustain in the laning phase take 2 points in Vampirism if you wish.

Fervor of Battle [1] - The main reason we take this mastery is because it helps so much with your sustain. 80 extra AD late game for free is really good, especially for someone with consistent and burst damage.

Prioritize gnarq.png over anything else, as it scales the best, and the 50% reduced CD from level 1-5 is extremely good for poke and chase. Synergises really well with gnarpassive.png which gives it another 50-60% CDR, so in total if you catch your boomerang, it only has a 20-25% CDR compared to leveling up W first which would leave it at just a 10 Second cooldown instead of a 2 second cooldown.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

These are your basic starting items against AD laners. Helps you build armor sooner late game as well.
Basic starting items against AP, as it allows you to rush a hexdrinker for defensive and offensive purposes. Can later be built into Maw if you want more out of it.

Core Items

Gives you great CDR, and helps you define your Bruiser build. It provides some % armor pen as well as some AD and Health. This is a spectacular first item on bruisers like Gnar!
Gives you some MR and AD, which allows you to play a bit more offensive. A great rush item against AP laners, as it denies being bursted down by AP champs.
Pick 1 and stick with it. It gives great tankiness against any AD champion. Randuins is better against AS champions, and sunfire gives good sustain in teamfights, and dead mans helps for chasing. Only get thornmail if they have like 4 ad champions though. Pick your poison.
Pretty much your only AP defensive items. You can pick ZZ'Rot to help keep lane, but otherwise, these 2 are best. Spirit visage gives you a lot more tanky capabilities, and I build this almost every game, while I build Maw if we already have another tank, or as a 4-5th item, or if I'm carrying
Your boot choices. Berserkers if you are carrying and have another tank, Merc's against CC, and Tabi if they have lots of ad or their attack speed champ(s) are doing well, or if you want to prevent them from doing well

Situational Items

Buy this if you get kited easily, or want to kite easliy. Gives lots of HP, and a decent amount of AD. Mostly used for the passive though. Really great in mini gnar form. Kinda costy though, so I don't build it every game
    Against AP poke
