Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on him. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

For this champion I recommend going for the Precision Tree.

Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32 Press the attack is good on him because you can auto the enemy often.

Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph restores your health when you get kills or assists.

Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32You need Legend:tenacity as you are rather immobile.

Cut%20Down.png?width=32 Finally Cut Down is good because you will not be tanky early and may be against enemies with more health. This is a theory craft page.

In the second tree we will be Taking Resolve and taking Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin which will protect us against enemy autos and damage.

Revitalize.png?width=32 Revitalize is good too on you because of your passive and the items you will buy.

Gnar’s Passive is Rage Gene

Gnars base movement speed and attack range will increase every level. Gnar generates rage when receiving damage and dealing damage. Rage decays if he has not dealt or taken damage in 13 seconds.

At maximum Rage, Gnar will transform into Mega Gnar for 15 seconds. After regeneration to normal, he will not regenerate rage for 15 seconds afterwards.

MEGA GNAR: Mega Gnar increases base attack damage, health, armor and magic resistance. He turns into a melee champion and is slower.

Gnar’s Q is Boomerang Throw / Boulder Toss

MINI GNAR: Gnar throws a boomerang forwards in a lane. Any target hit is dealt damage and slowed. The boomerang returns to Gnar after hitting its maximum range or an enemy. On its return it deals 50% damage to enemies. Catching the boomerang reduced the cooldown.

MEGA GNAR: Gnar throws a Boulder in a target direction dealing damage to enemies hit and slowing them. If Gnar picks up the boulder it is reduced in cooldown.

Tips and Tricks: While in mini form, using your Q will deal damage to the first enemies hit, however this will make the boomerang come back to him quicker and not have as big of range. Your Q’s return direction can easily be manipulated. You can use your Q offensively and throw it towards enemies, or if they are out of range, throw it behind you and reposition and miss the boomerang and hope it will hit the enemy- this also increases your style points by 55% ! In Mega form, you want to throw your boulder and pick it up straight away. This is so you can deal extra damage to the enemies in extended trades. Remember, you’re melee and no longer ranged.

Gnar’s W is Hyper / Wallop

MINI GNAR: Every third attack on the same target within 3.5 seconds deal extra damage and increases his movement speed that decays over 3 seconds.

MEGA GNAR: Gnar slams the ground stunning any enemies hit.

Tips and Tricks: As you’re a ranged champion, going for trades is a must. Your W will stack and deal extra damage to enemies if they are hit 3 times with your Autos/Abilities. Make sure to always utilize this ability and abuse your range advantage on enemy champions. While in Mega form make sure to use your W, it is no longer a passive! Use your W as soon as you’re on top of an enemy.

Screenshot_3.3.png

Gnar’s E is Hop / Crunch

MINI GNAR: Gnar leaps to a target location gaining extra attack speed. If he lands on a unit he will bounce further. If the target was an enemy then Gnar will slow them for 80% for a brief period.

MEGA GNAR: Gnar leaps to a target location, deals damage and slows enemies he lands on. If Crunch is used to transform, he will bounce forward.

Tips and Tricks: Your E ability is a very multitalented ability. It can be used to engage or escape. It can even be used to jump over small walls. When using your E I recommend that you try to use it on a unit so you get the further leap. This is good when you’re about to go into mega as well, but you can use the double leap to get into range for your melee attacks or to chase enemies.

Gnar’s Ultimate is GNAR!

MINI GNAR: Boomerang throw on catch cooldown is reduced and Hyper’s bonus movement speed is also increased.

MEGA GNAR: Gnar knocks enemy’s in a direction dealing damage and slowing them. Enemies hit into terrain are stunned.

Tips and Tricks: Like your E, your ultimate is rather versatile however can only be used in melee form. To get the most out of your ultimate, you need to know what to do and when. You may need to be the frontline and pull enemies into your team rather than into the wall. Practise makes perfect when using your ultimate

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Start this item in most games. Gives you extra AD and will make you stronger
If you're against a sustain lane or hard matchup

Core Items

Your first major item is going to be Black Cleaver.
Your second item is going to be boots
Th third item you should get will be Frozen mallet.
fourth item is going to be Randuins Omen
Your fifth item is going to be either Adaptive Helm or Spirit Visage.
The last item is going to be Guardians Angel.

Situational Items

Pick up Adaptive if you're against a Burst or AOE magic damage champion (Like Kata)
Buy either Mercury Treads or Ninja Tabi.

For starting items you want to either get a Dorans blade or Dorans shield. I would recommend getting a Dorans blade in most situations because it is the stronger of the two and gives you some extra early damage. However, you may want to take a Dorans shield instead if you’re against a heavy poke/ sustain lane.

Your first major item is going to be Black Cleaver. This item gives you Attack Damage, Health and cooldown reduction. This is a good item because it gives you stats that will help improve your gameplay. This item will also help chase enemies. Your second item is going to be boots, you can get either Ninja Tabi or Mercury Treads. You should get the boots that will benefit you the most. For example, does the enemy have lots of AD Damage or does the enemy have lots of AP? Buy the boots that will help you the most. The next item will be Frozen mallet. This item is very good on Gnar because it gives him lots of health and some Attack Damage. Your fourth major item is going to be Randuins Omen, this item gives you lots of armor and health and is very good against high attack damage teams. Your fifth item is going to be either Adaptive Helm or Spirit Visage. Your last item is going to be Guardians Angel.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

This is an easy matchup because of the range advantage however is very frustrating to play against because of his sustain from his passive. In the early levels you need to abuse your range advantage and attack damage by poking him as much as possible. You need to abuse him while he is in auto attack animation or whenever he comes to CS. It is likely that this enemy will not be able to trade back before they have their items.

VS

Darius

Medium

Darius is frustrating to play against because of his passive. Make sure to not let him auto you for free because the bleed will hurt. When laning against a Darius you will have to abuse your range advantage while in mini form and keep poking him down whenever possible.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

This is an easy matchup because of the range advantage. In the early levels you need to abuse your range advantage and attack damage by poking him as much as possible. You need to abuse him while he is in auto attack animation or whenever he comes to CS.

VS

Garen

Easy

Garen is an easy matchup because Garen in general is pretty useless, In the laning phase all he will do is Farm, He can interrupt some of your abilities with his Silence, but overall not much else. In this lane you want to focus on poking him down and making sure he cannot regenerate his health back from his Passive.

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium

This is a frustrating lane because when you go into melee he will auto you and so will the turrets. Play safe and do not get to aggressive in lane. Take down his towers with your Q. In this matchup, try and poke when possible. You can kill him if he gets too cocky and miss positions.

VS

Irelia

Easy

This is an easy matchup because of the range advantage. In the early levels you need to abuse your range advantage and attack damage by poking him as much as possible. You need to abuse him while he is in auto attack animation or whenever he comes to CS. Her W passive will keep her healthy when she auto’s so make sure to poke her when you’re in mini form.

VS

Jayce

Hard

Build armor and HP early, this lane is very hard because a good jayce will Auto you whenever you go for a minion in mega form. Just farm and try to poke when he is in melee form. You will need to play safe when you’re in Mega version as you will not be able to farm safely.

VS

Kayle

Hard

This is a hard matchup because they can counter you when you’re in melee form. In this lane you will need to play passive and poke when possible. You need to play around with your Gnar Bar and not get to cocky.

VS

Maokai

Easy

This is an easy matchup because of the range advantage. In the early levels you need to abuse your range advantage and attack damage by poking him as much as possible. You need to abuse him while he is in auto attack animation or whenever he comes to CS. It is likely that this enemy will not be able to trade back. Beware of his Sapling placement, and do not hug bushes this is because Maokai saplings deal extra damage when in bushes - you must position correctly where they do not damage you. Remember- Poke Poke Poke!

VS

Pantheon

Hard

You need to poke them whenever they go to CS. Beware, this champion can kill you easily if you misplay this lane. Try to deny as much as possible, but play smart. They can out damage you and easily kill you. Poke and survive. Beware of his Q damage and do not let him trade with you for free. Build health and armour quickly

VS

Renekton

Hard

Renekton is a tough one because he is a fighter that deals extreme amounts of burst damage and is rather tanky. He has a lot of sustain through his Fury bar and Q. I recommend poking him when possible and trying to not get caught out, if he jumps on you with his E- then back off and kite him.

VS

Riven

Medium

When playing against a Riven, make sure to keep your distance. She is melee, which is good for you- however she is really good at getting on her enemies because of her kit. You can counter this by jumping away with your E. In most cases the enemy Riven will outplay herself.

VS

Shen

Medium

You are very good vs Shen. Shen doesn’t deal a lot of damage early game so you should have a fine time laning against him. However you will need to be aware of his gank potential with the taunt from his E.

VS

Swain

Hard

This is a hard matchup because they can counter you when you’re in melee form. In this lane you will need to play passive and poke when possible. You need to play around with your Gnar Bar and not get to cocky.

VS

Trundle

Medium

Trundle is annoying to play against because of his passive sustain. When fighting him, try to dodge his E and always stay out of range for his bite. Trundle’s ultimate is annoying when trading, if he uses it then back off and wait for it to finish. Poke him whenever possible. He will shred your items late game.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

This is a medium matchup because Yasuo is very mobile, which means it can be hard for you to hit your Q or ultimate. Yasuo’s E can make him go through minions dodging all over the place, this means that the majority of your abilities can be countered, for example your Q will be hard to hit. Yasuo is Yasuo. Let him outplay himself, wait for him to use his dashes on the minions before you strike. Your passive is good for this lane because he will be going around the whole lane. Locking him down and shutting him down early is what you should do to win this matchup.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

Pros:

Range advantage when in mini Gnar

Good gank potential

Cons:

No ultimate unless you’re mega gnar

Easily kited in fights if Mega Gnar

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

  • You need to use your range advantage especially against melee champions.
  • When using your Q, make sure not to hit minions if you’re aiming for champions. This is because your Q will come back to you if you hit minions.
  • Your ultimate is very versatile. In team fights you can use it to hit enemies into walls/objects or you can use it to knock them into your team.
  • You can use your E offensively or defensively. It is also able to be used over walls.
  • When you’re chasing an enemy or escaping from one, use your E on an object such as a minion or champion to get a double jump.
  • While transforming, using your E on a minion will double jump. This doesn’t work in Mega Form.
