Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png is always taken on Gragas support for playmaking with your E+Flash and general safety. You want to be running 4.png14.png against teamcomps with little to no dive-threat and 4.png3.png against teamcomps with heavy divethreats (such as 157.png,59.png,114.png etc.) or vs. a high pressure bot (like if you're playing 79.png498.png vs. 53.png51.png).

Basically ignite for early kill pressure and if you don't need exhaust lategame, and exhaust if you don't have a lot of all-in potential earlygame and need it for the later stages of the game (I mostly run exhaust currently though due to the jungle meta with assassins).

New Runes Back to Top

The Resolve tree offers a lot for Gragas support in terms of Tankiness and utility throughout the game. Aftershock is a nobrainer as it gives you high tankiness as you engage with some extra damage in the end of the Aftershock explosion. Font of Life procs from your Q, E and R and offers your team some extra healing which is really nice. Iron Skin offers you more presence in lane due to higher armor and Overgrowth gives you a nice boost of HP scaling throughout the game as you're close to dying minions.

Domination is the 2nd best tree, as for many supports right now. Zombie ward+Ingenious hunter is the combination you want to go for which offers you INSANE Active Item CDR% on max rank (40%) and extra vision as you kill wards/your wards expire. Really solid tree for Gragas support over all that gives you everything you want and need.

Masteries Back to Top

This is the optimal mastery page you want to run on Gragas support. 3/4 of your skills proc Stoneborn Pact which makes it a REALLY valuable keystone on Gragas (honestly it's pretty broken if you can get some early HP to help heal your allies even more). Because of this, you want to run 18 points in the Resolve tree picking up Insight for the extra 15% Flash CD reduction which helps your engages a lot. Your remaining 12 points can either go in the Ferocity or Cunning tree, Cunning being the slightly more defensive choice with some extra mana regen for spam and cookies for sustain.

You can either start with Q or E depending on enemy lane composition and if you can land your E or not. If you think that you have a stronger lvl 1 than the enemies, start E and harass them with an E+Auto and disengage, if not then start Q and put it on the ranged creeps lvl 1 and push the wave to get your lvl 2 faster than them. After that you want to pick up the skill you didn't lvl 1, and follow it with an R->E->Q->W max, maxing your E first for added utility (remember you are playing Gragas support as an engage/peeler, not really a frontline tank or damage dealer).

Situational Items

You will always start with Relic shield and get your boots1+sightstone as early as possible. After that you want to complete your boots (mobis if you want extra roam speed, or lucidity if you want lower flash CD for more playmaking). After you have your boots2, sightstone and relic shield you want to rush a Redemption (if enemies have no burst) or Locket (if enemies have great single/aoe target burst). After you've completed both those items you want to finish your Ruby Sightstone followed by a Knight's Vow on the target with the best mix of DMG+Tankiness (most likely jungler such as Zac). After that complete your build with a Mikaels if they have CC, or Gargoyle Stoneplate if you need extra tankiness after engaging. Abyssal Scepter is another viable purchase if your team has a lot of magic damage and you want to boost it.

VS

Alistar

Medium

Alistar is actually much like Gragas, both in and out of lane. In lane both of you want to find favourable engages with your tankiness, and out of lane find good engages/peel for your team. Optimally you want to trade on him before he trades on you with a E+Auto+Q combo and then fall back. If he trades first you are almost forced to overextend in the trade with your gragase.png which can result in a lost trade. Be decisive and correct in your engages and it's not a very difficult matchup as you have the damage advantage.

VS

Brand

Easy

Gragas support thrives on squishy mage lanes, as you have the all-in potential throughout the game whilst being tanky (much like a tank like Leona). Use your E aggressively throughout the game on Brand whilst dodging as many skillshots as possible and you should win almost every trade. The only way he wins this matchup is if you miss an E and he gets a free brande.pngbrandq.pngbrandw.png combo on you with a 2s stun that will take 50% of your HP. When you have your ulti you can always go for an E->R->flash combo and knock him towards your team for free kills.

VS

Braum

Hard

One of the hardest matchups for Gragas support due to the fact that Braum can block every engage from you with his braume.png. In lane it's not super bad for you as Gragas as you can just W->E->Auto->Q +backoff trade without him being able to do much. The worst part is the mid/lategame where he blocks you (literally) from EVER engaging on his team if he's around. Even if you hit an E-Flash on a carry with your ultimate in the air being ready to knock them to your team, he can simply braumw.pngbraume.png whenever and just block your ult which makes his carry get knocked to safety instead. Don't make overaggressive engages, and only try to use your flash engage combo when you know his shield is on CD or he's not around.

VS

Karma

Easy

This lane is extremely fun to play as Gragas to begin with. Usually Karma can just outpoke melee champions and never engage, but with Gragas you force her to counter engage on you otherwise she will lose the trade. This frees up your ADC to basically free hit her/enemy ADC whilst you being able to tank her up. You also have free gragasr.png on her throughout the game.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Lulu is a bit like Thresh in the sense that she has really good counterengage if you make the first move on her. Try to avoid randomly E'ing in towards her as she just meets it with a luluw.png + autos+luluq.png to slow you down for even more damage. If she has cooldowns on her W or E spell, you are free to engage and poke her with your E. Try to countershove the wave at all times with your Q and wait for jungler assistance in this lane as you have better all-in potential than her. In mid/late, respect her lulur.png if you engage on her carries so you don't just randomly E flash in without followup.

VS

Thresh

Hard

Quite a difficult matchup for you as Gragas if the Thresh has good timings on his threshe.pngs. You want to avoid using your gragase.png aggressively in this matchup unless you have Flash and know you can hit it before he flays you away. NEVER E in during the laningphase unless you know you can dodge the hook/flay somehow and get away safely. If you do an aggressive E he will just threshe.png you back followed by a threshq.png and you might end up dead instantly. Play it smart and don't get cocky.

ADCs that synergize with Gragas support Back to Top

TIER236.png498.png51.png22.png110.png

These champions synergize really well with Gragas due to their high damage output/CC followup after Gragas engages.

2 TIER+ Rest:81.png96.png29.png15.png

These ADCs and the other ones not mentioned are not as good as the Tier1 ADCs due to lower damage output in the earlygame that makes Gragas earlygame engages not as powerful. Same goes for the rest of the ADCs not mentioned.

How to play Gragas support throughout the game Back to Top

Earlygame:

In the earlygame your job as Gragas support is to poke your enemies with gragase.png and Q+autoattacks. If you have jungle assistance, don't be afraid to gragase.png4.png on the enemy botlane to force their summoners or kill them straight up. Gragas is not the best earlygame champion, so don't overreach for engages that shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Midgame:

Your job in midgame is depending on how fed your teams carries are compared to the enemy teams carries. Do they have stronger carries than you? Look for gragase.pnggragasr.png4.png engages on their carries knocking them into your team for a quick kill. You have stronger carries than them? Wait for the enemy teams frontline to engage, and either knock them away with your E and then R, or hold onto your R until an enemy carry oversteps and knock them towards you for a quick pickup.

Lategame:

As Gragas your job in the  lategame doesn't differentiate much from the midgame. Assess your carries strength vs. enemy carries and assess whether E-Flashing is worth or not. From there you want to make sure you know who the priority target is, most likely their mid/ADC, incase they overstep and you have a possibility to engage. Don't be afraid if the possibility doesn't present itself to just knock the enemy frontline away from your carries and disengage the fight, it can be more worth than trying to overforce and engage.
