Summoner Spells Back to Top

11.png

Smite is required for any jungler, enables you to clear the jungle camps and buy jungle items.

4.png

Flash is standard for most champions, Gragas is no exception, he gets great value out of the immediate re-positioning of Flash when looking for engages.

New Runes Back to Top

Aftershock.png?width=64Easily proc'd with gragase.pnggragasr.png deals damage based on your health, perfect for a tank that wants to deal some burst damage as well.
Demolish.png?width=64 Kill a tower quicker after a gank, or during sieges.
Conditioning.png?width=64 Free Armor and Magic Resist after level 10, perfect since you are just finishing a huge health item in 1409.png
Second%20Wind.png?width=64 Free health regen during fights + gragaspassive.png Gragas's passive healing will be healing a ton!

cheap%2520shot1.png?width=64 Deal true damage after hitting an enemy with slow or CC, on a 4 second cooldown can be proc'd multiple times during  fight.
Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=64 Give some movement speed as a reward for getting kills or assist, really helps for moving around the map and engaging quicker.

Masteries Back to Top

FEROCITY

179.png
5/5 - 6114.png More damage on abilites, gragas is a spell spamming tank, so you get a ton of value out of bonus damage on abilties.
1/1 - 6123.png Allies will do more damage to targets you damage, great for ganks and team fights, you can easily apply this to multiple enemies with AOE from gragasq.pnggragasr.pnggragase.png1409.png
5/5 - 6134.png Small amount of AP and AD per level will give you some scaling damage during he entire match while you build all tank items
1/1 - 6142.png Deal more damage take more damage, Gragas needs his burst to hit HARD to secure early ganks and snowball games, don't over think the take more damage part either, gragas is constantly moving in and out of fights based on his cooldowns, not soaking up massive amounts of damage all at once so you can get away with running this as long as you play to that style.

RESOLVE

179.png
5/5 - 6211.png Free health regen, not incredibility impactful, but really helpful
1/1 - 6223.png Take less damage from jungle camps and enemies auto attacks, helps a lot against the raptor camp.
5/5 - 6231.png Gragas heals a ton, has high base health regen, and will get a shield from 6262.png all the bonuses from Runic Armor are much more worth than the +50 health from 6232.png
1/1 - 6241.png Lower cooldown on smite and flash, more importantly Flash, later into the game Gragas is a flash engage machine, having it up more often lets you kill the enemies more often.
5/5 -  6251.png Less effected by slows and CC, great for Gragas's in and out playstyle during fights.
1/1 - 6262.png Gives you a shield based on your Health and the amount of enemies around you when you CC an enemy champion. Gaining a massive shield as you engage on an enemy gives their allies a lot more to deal with if they try to damage you to get you off of them.

Skill Order

gragasr.png dot-pattern.png gragasq.png dot-pattern.png gragase.png dot-pattern.png gragasw.png

gragaspassive.png Passive

  • Gragas heals for 6% of his Max Health after using an ability

gragasq.png Barrel Roll

  • Gragas throws a barrel onto the ground, it will stay there and build up power the longer it's on the ground, will explode instantly after recasting of Q (can be buffered immediately after using E gragase.png )

gragasw.png Drunken Rage

  • Gragas drinks from his barrel giving him damage reduction for the next 2.5 seconds, and his next auto attack is empowered dealing magic damage in an AOE around the first enemy hit and deals damage based on the targets Max Health.

gragase.png Body Slam

  • Gragas dashes forward knocking up the first targets hit and stunning them, if Gragas hits a enemy with Body Slam it's cooldown is reduced by 3 seconds.

gragasr.png Explosive Cask

  • Gragas hurls a barrel knocking all enemies hit away from the barrel, allowing you to knock the enemies into you for an easy CC chain.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Always this start no reason to switch up jungle item or Refillable for 3 potions.

Core Items

Situational Items

1039.png Always start with this, 1041.png is no where close to as valuable as the heal from abilities and mana regen you get from hunter's talisman.
2031.png Heals and stays in inventory and refills 2 stacks every time you base, and can be sold later into the game as well, incredibly cost efficient

Carry

1410.png OR 1409.png 3025.png3065.png3047.png OR  3111.png 3742.png3193.png

Best option for those looking to carry in solo queue. Requires a lot of gold and puts more value in spamming abilities, tanking, and damaging enemies.

Supportive

1409.png3109.png3190.png3193.png3158.png Last Item Options(3075.png3800.png3143.png3065.png)

Good option when you have allies worth supporting or when  you / your team is behind, this build requires much less gold so you get completed items quicker even if you are not getting much gold.

1410.png Runic Echos gives faster jungle clear mid game, and higher burst, for the trade off of less health, really good item and is purely preference rather you build this or cinderhulk on Gragas.
1409.png Clear camps passively with it's burn, and damages enemies while you are on top of them, and gives you health and bonus health on any extra health items you buy, makes you tankier and able to make more aggressive plays that would spend more of your health pool.

  • Sejuani

  • Shyvana

  • Volibear

  • Zac
    Medium

VS

Dr. Mundo

Hard

Mundo's healing make it basically impossible for Gragas to kill him alone, you can burst him a lot but once he uses ULT and you are on cooldown there's no chance of you killing him.

Mundo Jungle's counter ganks can also lead to a depressing snowball for him if he catches you with 1 infectedcleavermissilecast.png

VS

Elise

Medium

Elise beats your first 3 camp clear speed, and can do a lot of damage to you if she catches you out. So be careful especially when walking in the river.

Elise's repel can easily bait out a ton of abilities any time you engage onto elise, expect her to repel up and wait to cast some abilities so you have something for when she comes down.

VS

Graves

Easy

Graves is short range, so any time he auto attacks Gragas he will be in range to be hit by one of Gragas's abilities, abuse this and punish him any time he dashes into your team with a quick gragase.pnggragasr.png

VS

Jarvan IV

Hard

Jarvan can out pace gragas at most stages of the game, it's up to you to eat his jungle when he ganks early, and counter gank him after you are level 6 can really turn the game around in your favor.

you can cancel his E - Q jarvanivdemacianstandard.pngjarvanivdragonstrike.png with body slam gragase.png

VS

Lee Sin

Easy

Gragas matches Lee Sin's clear speed, and CC make it a huge pain for Lee to ever get a good blindmonkrkick.png engage off.

VS

Sejuani

Hard

Sejuani can just AFK farm and win.

Try your hand at as many ganks as possible early, even if they all fell, it's better than matching Sejuani's AFK farm, since she comes out of it during the Mid game stronger than you.

VS

Shyvana

Hard

Shyvana can play the same type of game Gragas does with heavy farming, but doesn't have to gank, she will look to sneak objectives so failing a gank on your end or being miss positioned on the map you will easily lose multiple dragons.

Later into the game she should be super farmed and if she counter ganks after you blow a full combo Shyvana's mixed damage will shred you in no time.

Try to invade her at her 2nd buff during the first clear, and pink the Dragon as soon as possible.

VS

Volibear

Easy

Gragas out paces Volibear's clear speed and can easily be in position to counter gank him in any lane.

Later into the match he also counters his enages with gragase.png gragasr.png

All your CC and slows make it very hard for Volibear to get anything done against your team.

VS

Zac

Medium

Gragas can shutdown Zac's early game by tracking him in his jungle, showing simply showing up near the end of his clear routes will force him to reposition in which case you can just mirror him to any lane he goes to.

When Zac jumps zace.png you can stop it with body slam gragase.png

Early Game Back to Top

Early game your normal jungle path will look like this:

Buff Closes to bot lane (Blue side Red buff & Red side Blue Buff) > Wolves > 2nd buff > Gank Top / Mid lane

That's as standard as it gets, I'd put a lot of practice into doing this across multiple games to get a feel for when it's good and when you might change up your path.

Other cheese options are paths like

Red buff > Gank Mid with Flash gragase.png
Start the enemies  Red / Blue Buff near their top lane with your Top laner > Your Red / Blue on top side > Your Red / Blue buff near bot side.

After first attempts at Ganks recall as quickly as possible and get either 3711.png or 3751.png if you got a kill / extra gold, and look to gank the bot side of the map straight from base, if you don't get a level from doing a camp, then try to prioritize ganks over doing it, once you attempt ganks you should lose some health and mana, even if you don't get a kill from a gank you can have massive impact from showing in lanes and damaging enemies or controling their movement / wave. So once you gank you can go back to farm.

While exiting the lane leave a ward with 3711.png in the river bush.
Rather than farming all camps then ganking, it's better to show up quicker, then farming camps when you are to low to gank.

Mid Game Back to Top

Once the first tower goes down it is officially mid game.

After the first tower goes down you can expect laners to rotate to another lane EX: Bot lane takes tower, Bot lane moves top / Mid

You have to react to both your team's rotations and the enemies team potential rotations, as long as you are always moving with your support during this time you should be able to make a play onto any champions caught out.

You should also always be looking to make a play and engage onto enemies when your team is behind you. Gragas has all the tools to lock down enemies gragase.png 4.png gragasr.png. Be looking to blow your flash and ULT on the enemy as much as possible.

If there is not play to be made farm camps then sit in a bush and try to counter gank.

You should run into a couple of skirmishes during the mid game, these are small fights that aren't full on team fights and most likely will be chunking enemies and backing off, Gragas is very strong at doing this multiple times then moving in for plays, to do this you have to have a good read on the map and be in positions such as in the river or in bushes to catch enemies moving around the map. If you can get good at doing this successfully than you can get a ton more value out of Gragas's kit during the mid game without having to land a sick engage that drastically flips the game.

Depending on how the match is going in your favor or not in your favor will most likely continue to go this way, if you are losing you can consider going a more supportive route in your itemization with items such as 3109.png & 3190.png

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game Gragas's tankiness isn't as simple as most tanks, he can't just sit on 5 champions and soak everything, you need to move in and out of fights based on your gragase.png and other cooldowns, you heal up a good amount with your passive, so unless your team is completely winning fights you don't have to only walk forward.

During the late game is very important to understand how fights are going and will play out based on your team comps, you want to play them slow and have multiple rotations of your cooldowns, or happen in an instant when you get a good gragase.pnggragasr.png onto the enemy carries. Gragas can be played with both styles and you should look to identify when you can and should play one way or another.

Communicating your team's movements and to setup for plays will give you a lot more chance at having higher level of coordination with your team, mostly all Gragas can do is setup plays, and if you ping your team will have a higher likely hood to understand what is happening more.

If you are caught out solo gragase.png will be stopped by any champion near you so make sure to gragasr.png or 4.png to get away from nearby champions then body slam away.
