Summoner Spells Back to Top

There isn't a real explanation here.

4.pngFlash is OP and you don't need 6.pngGhost.
12.pngTP is for toplaners. If you have a lot of heal to fight against, MAYBE but only maybe consider taking 14.pngIgnite.

That's it.

Seriously.

New Runes Back to Top

I highly prefer Precision and Resolve.

What Runes you actually take is yours.
These are just some experimental ones I like playing with, that read most valuable for Irelia.

13003d6fa9393a112.png?width=64Conqueror converts portions of your dmg into true damage.
This is really good in TopLane against tanks and generally over the game.
Since you not only get some AD. You also get 20% of your damage into True Damage we may do the maths now.
20% of let's say 100 is of course 20. It was physical before so with enemy armor these 20 dmg could have only been 15.
Since this is true damage he eats the full 20 damage and we get a dmg+ of 5 in this scenario.
Of course over the game and so on you could count it and there will be a relative huge number on dmg+ with this.
On a 1000 damage this would be 50 dmg+ which could be the killing blow.
Calculate to your overall damage in game which could be 30,000 on champions this would be 1500 of true damage from this Rune as BONUS. Add the true damage of your passiveireliapassive.png and you get a lot.

Lethal%20Tempo.png?width=64Lethal Tempo also doesn't look really bad, since AttackSpeed is an awesome stat for Irelia.
Need more tests but 13003d6fa9393a112.png?width=32Conqueror is the safe side.

Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=64Press the Attack will be good if you attack often. Since Irelia does attack often it is also a really nice rune to take. Don't miss testing this one out. I just love true damage I guess. 31.png

Fleet%20Footwork.png?width=64Fleet Footwork is also not bad because of the chasing potential with movement speed. But the rest doesn't really attract.

dot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.png

Triumph.png?width=64Triumph is, no doubt, the best choice here. Presence%20of%20Mind.png?width=32Mana is not really interesting and Overheal.png?width=32 would only be if you have self heal through a lot of lifesteal that you don't have. I love taking lifesteal with BotRK but that's not worth it. And also it was the best 6343.png back then rescueing you on that last breath Ignite14.png.

dot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.png

Legend%20Alacrity.png?width=64Legend:Alacrity is awesome, because of the attackspeed bonus it provides.
As I said before AttackSpeed is really good for Irelia.

Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=64Legend:Tenacity is worth testing. But I still think that AttackSpeed provides a way better bonus to you.

dot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.png

Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=64Coup de Grace is no doubt the best one. Always take this one.

dot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.png

Bone%20Plating.png?width=64 Bone Plating is a nice rune to have since it eats a lot of incoming damage over time and may even win you some trades.

dot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.pngdot-pattern.png

The last one is yours to do as you please. I played a bit with Second%20Wind.png?width=32 Second Wind since it restores a lot of lost health back to you but there are a lot of good runes left to test.
Some say 5abd57da0f30230001f3edd9?width=32 Chrysalis is good because of the extra health in lane and some dmg+ to mid-late-game.

I cna only say. Test out what works best for you. For now my impression in the new runes are really good. Finally they are a bit more balanced so you can actually choose not only according to champion and lane but also some to your playstyle.

Of course max ult first. Then go for Q , E and W.
On Level 1 take BladeSurge for creeping. Don't waste your mana too much.
Take E on level 2 for first trades since it make your target Marked do spam that Q damage out.(more info following)
Then take W for countering some burst damage.

ireliapassive.png Ionian Fervor

This passive ability makes you destroy stuff in teamfights. For every champion you attack you get 1 stack.
Attacking a minion/monster/whatever also gives you 1 stack(2 minons won't give you 2. It's just one for hitting anything else than a champion). For every stack you deal bonus MAGIC damage (but based on AD and level).
At max(4) stacks you get a sweet attack speed buff and a shield damage buff, giving you TRUE damage against shields, bursting enemy shields away like there were none.
This mixed up damage is what always made Irelia so strong and I love that it's still part of her.

ireliaq.png Bladesurge

This is your main damage output and gapcloser and/or even escape.
Bladesurge does a good amount of physical damage and resets it's cooldown when used against "Marked" targets or when you kill an enemy with it.
So having a creepwave full of low lives means Q spam.
It's a versatile ability making you escape thought jumping on minions/monsters maybe even resetting through killing it and getting even further away. Also you can take some lasthits you wouldn't have gotten with autoattacks.

ireliaw.png Defiant Dance

This spell gives you while holding down (smart-cast) a huge damage suppression.
Always use this if you see your enemy trying to burst out all of his combo blocking the most part of it.
After it release this onto him and follow with a stun and double Bladesurge or even all-in with ult.
In laning, this spell is what makes you win your trades. Block his damage and let him taste yours.

ireliae.png Flawless Duet

Activating Flawless Duet places a blade in a high range around you. Using it again in the next few seconds will place a second blade, connecting them and stunning enemies between the blades (or inside the beam) and also "Mark" them for Bladesurge to be used without cooldown.
Note that not using the second Flawless Duet blade means that the first one will connect to you, which can sometimes be usefull aswell.

ireliar.png Vanguard's Edge

Your ultimate let's you shoot a wide projectile in chosen direction, colliding with the first champion hit and "Marking" enemies on this blade-explosion.
Then the blades scatter and surround them making them suffer when trey try to pass the blades, because of not only damage but also a 60% slow and a disarm.

Using your new abilities:

In lane you try lasthitting with autos. If you get zoned or pushed also ireliaq.pngBladesurge minions you would have lost.
Trading aggressive means that you stun your target with ireliae.pngFlawless Duet into a ireliaq.pngdouble-bladesurgeireliaq.png or a single ireliaq.pngblade-surge and the second one to escape.

If you get all-ined or atleast eat a strong hit, try using ireliaw.pngDefiant Dance before to block most of his damage, then following up in your typical ireliae.pngstun->ireliaq.pngbladesurge combo.

All-In:

Your all-in may look like this: ireliae.pngE->ireliaq.pngQ->ireliar.pngR->ireliaq.pngQ->ireliaq.pngQ for full all in with ireliae.pngFlawless Duet as your opener.
You may also use your ireliar.pngult to open like this: ireliar.pngR->ireliaq.pngQ->ireliae.pngE->ireliaq.pngQ->ireliaq.pngQ which lets you hit your ireliae.pngstun easier due to the slow and zoning of your ireliar.pngult.
But remember to always auto between your abilities.
Your last ireliaq.pngBladesurge can be used to escape or burst even more.
Note that in this combo you might want to put your ireliaw.pngDefiant Dance somewhere situational to block a lot of incoming damage.

Also note that your most damage comes from ireliaq.pngBladesurge AND your dot-pattern.pngauto-attacks.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    First back

Core Items

    Trinity -> Sterak's -> Guinsoo's

Situational Items

Some damage items to chose from. I really like BotRK, Titanic Hydra and Frozen Mallet. Also Maw for heavy incoming magic damage.
These are some situational defensive items. I love Guardian Angel.
Here are some against magic damage. Adaptive helm is really good for magic dps
    Boots to choose from.

Irelia's item build is really simple.

You start with 2033.pngCorrupting Potion, because Mana and Health regen is all that you want early on.
Her biggest damage boost comes from 3078.pngTrinity Force, so that's what you wan't to get as early as possible.
Get 3057.pngSheen on your first back making your autos after Bladesurge hit hard.
Also don't forget your 1001.pngBoots of Speed.
After rushing and finishing 3078.pngTrinity Force you should head on to 3053.pngSterak's Gage making you a lot more tanky while also providing some damage boost.
Then 3124.pngGuinsoo's Rageblade may be your 3rd target because of the attack speed and AD it provides.
Also Irelia can work with the few AP it has got.
The thing with 3124.png is the Passive. It triggers your on-hit effects twice, meaning your passive'sireliapassive.png bonus damage also applies twice. (items like 3153.png and 3748.pngalso btw)
If you feel like getting shit on, pick some defensive items up before finishing your core for example 3156.pngMaw of Malmortius or 3194.pngAdaptive Helm against a lot of magic damage OR take 3742.pngDead Man's Plate against physical damage.
If ADCs run you down pick up 3075.png for some revenge.
Don't forget some HP: 3748.pngTitanic Hydra, 3022.pngFrozen Mallet provide very good stats for you.
3139.png or 3140.png: Against heavy CC if you're the focus.
3153.png: I tried this instead of 3124.pngGuinsoo's Rageblade and it also works. Try it out.
3026.png: I almost always would take this one in late game.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Don't go all-in for his passiveaatroxpassive.png.

Always trade short fights. Over-time he may win some early trades if they take too long because of his self-heal from aatroxw.pnghis Blood Thirst.
If his passive is out, get his Q aatroxq.pngDark Flight and all-in him.
Mid-Late-game trades should be on your side.
I've never had any problems against Aatrox on most Toplaners.
I think it's not a good champion. Sorry.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

The key is predicting his ultfeast.png to block it with your Defiant Danceireliaw.png.

It's flat damage reduction. No armor or magic resist which means his true damage also gets reduces bei A LOT.
Trades are easy because of his cooldowns.
Try zoning him do deny minion kills for his passive regen chogathpassive.png.

VS

Darius

Hard

This is actually hard because of his high burst potential.

On level 6 you should win.
Try juking out his Q Decimatedariuscleave.png by staying out of it or at least in the inner circle.
Staying on the outher circle will scare you for your life and heal him up.
Bladesurgeireliaq.png is perfect when having him "Marked" because you get into close range when his Q dariuscleave.pngtriggers.
You can also escape with it.
High reflexes are needed here.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

He has got high sustain on level 6 due to his ultsadism.png.

Early trades are yours and he's easy to zone.
Try standing behind minions or do raw dodging.

VS

Kennen

Hard

This is Kennen.

Kennen is a meele killer and counters a lot of TopLaners.
Run from his ult with Bladesurgeireliaq.png and re-engage with your ultireliar.png into Bladesurge ireliaq.png while setting up your Flawless Duetireliae.png for a nice stun and another "Mark" for your Bladesurgeireliaq.png burst.
Remember to only re-engage with your ultireliar.png if your Bladesurgeireliaq.png is actually ready or you will be standing there eating a stunkennenpassive.png and he will be escaping.

VS

Olaf

Medium

He can get out of your stunireliae.png and ult barrierireliar.png with his ultolafragnarok.png.

That means you gotta escape or try trading him which I don't recommend.
If it's a Reckless Swing-Olafolafrecklessstrike.png block it with your Defiant Danceireliaw.png making a comeback to blow him up.
With Undertow-Olafolafaxethrowcast.png you shouldn't have a lot of problems.
Ultingireliar.png or Flawless Dueting ireliae.pnghim may not stun him in his ultolafragnarok.png, but will still "Mark" him for some nice Bladesurgeireliaq.png reset. Also he can break through your ult wallireliar.png but will still get the damage.

VS

Renekton

Hard

Eat his Q Cull the Meekrenektoncleave.png with your Defiant Danceireliaw.png and don't fight him in his ultrenektonreignofthetyrant.png.

He could sometimes win some trades due to his nice stunrenektonpreexecute.png if you run away after that.
Be brave and stun him backireliae.png using your "Marks" wisely for double-Bladesurgingireliaq.png him. His cooldowns are similar to yours. Use them wisely and maybe be the second one to stun and not the first one. He got short burst combos renektonsliceanddice.pngrenektonpreexecute.pngrenektoncleave.pngrenektonsliceanddice.png and yours take longer which means you have to be the one who gives him all back.

VS

Sion

Easy

Dodge his minion tossessione.png and block his sionw.png explosion with ireliaw.png.

I find his sionq.png easy to avoid so it's not that hard hitting him in lane.
You zone him pretty well.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

It is really hard hitting him with your ireliae.png since he got so much mobilityyasuodashwrapper.png.

Use your ireliae.png on yourself when he's attacking you to get the highest chance of hitting.
Once he's stunned he blows up and you can get back to wait for another trade.
The whole part is about setting up your ireliae.png.
ireliar.png is helpful for hotting your ireliae.png due to it's slow.
I actually don't know what to block with ireliaw.png.
His most damage comes of his Qyasuoqw.png and his dot-pattern.png autos.
