Summoner Spells Back to Top

Flash is a must as it always is. Rather than going with the exhaust it's better to go with smite as buffs can be shared with your ADC/Jungler (once you reach level 5). Your Q should also replace your need for exhaust

You can run exhaust if you want too. You can still clear camps. At level 1 it takes 40 seconds for you to clear the camp and at level 18 it takes 6 seconds.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Cunning

Movement speed so you can roam in the jungle

Mana regen while in lane (you also use a lot of mana to clear jungle camps)

Reduced cool downs seems better than additional magic penetration

You have quite a strong shield so windspeaker's blessing will help enhance this

Resolve

Extra MR and Armour as Ivern is quite squishy early on

More movement speed for when leaving lane

A bit of extra health and health regen (he also uses health to clear camps)

Ultimate levels first (as always). Daisy does some good damage and the knock up can also be good but hard to pull off. She is a very good distraction and gains health/damage the higher the level.

Your E is good to level first. Provides a good shield and good damage when it explodes. The area in which it explodes is also quite large. Level this second if you want too and do Q first however, I think the shield is more important as Q performs its function with just one level.

Your Q should be next. Great gap closer and nice root which gets longer the higher the level. Also does some nice damage. You can level this first if you need to however, I feel the main advantages of this are the root to either escape or allow you or your allies to dash to them instantly. You can perform this at level 1 and the shield is better to have first so you can fulfil your support role and protect your ADC from damage.

Your W should be last. It can be useful to put enemy team off but don't see any point in levelling this until last. It's also good for revealing other brush areas and saves using a ward if not needed. You can also have fun with this with a rengar on your team. The higher the level the more damage you do from brush.

Support AP Build

Your main build gives you 45% CDR with the right masteries. The new 3107.png is a good fit for Ivern with health, heal, extra damage and health and mana regen.
Armour and mana from 3110.png will help you in lane. If you need more MR instead of armour then go with 3194.png
I've gone for 3009.png as the extra movement speed is good if roaming but 3117.png are als viable.
I think 2302.png is better than 2301.png on Ivern.
If you want to do more damage as support then either 3116.png or 3152.png are good options as they both provide health and damage. 3116.png also has a nice slow. The staff has lost some of its fire power in patch 6.24 but it's still a good cheap item for Ivern with the damage, health and the slow.
Support players tend to leave a spot for a ward. Instead, as a last item, I think either 3102.png or 3512.png are good, depending on what you need in lane. You could just also go with 3083.png for the health.

Build Order: 2302.png 3050.png 3107.png 3009.png 3110.png 3102.png (swapping Solari with Zeke's is possible, depends on the lane)

Utility Build

This is just an alternative build with a bit more health and shield from 3194.png and I've added 3504.png as this will help your ADC with the extra damage and attack speed. If you want 6 items then I would use 3050.png to help your ADC and get armour or 3065.png if you need more MR and health. You could also get 3083.png just for the health.

AP Build

This build I would use in ARAM. I would take standard AP runes. Again I think its good to go for items that give you CDR and aim for 40%. I've gone for 3102.png instead of 3135.png. Rest of the items will provide you with good damage and enough mana.

Other Items

3190.png This used to be a must buy but has now lost a lot of its usefulness however, still a nice item for some cheap MR and Armour.
3109.png This could also be a nice option with the extra Arnour and health however, my build is not really focused on Ivern being tanky so taking the damage from your ADC might not be helpful.

VS

Alistar

Hard

A hard match for Ivern. Alistar is very aggressive and in your face. Not really what Ivern wants. If you can stay away from his combo then you can steadily poke away

VS

Ashe

Medium

Ashe has good range but if you can root her and shield your ADC at the same time then should be able to reduce her health a fair bit

VS

Bard

Easy

Not that hard to play against. Just try to stay away from his double stun and poke away. Your range for skill shots is much higher than Bards

VS

Blitzcrank

Medium

Another tricky one. If you are grabbed, you will lose a lot of your health. Your shield could help turn this around but depends on the situation. Dodge his grabs then you should be fine

VS

Braum

Hard

Not that easy to play against. Braum is a tough customer with lots of health and does a good job at protecting the ADC. All you can really do is poke away with your root and let your ADC chip away at his health

VS

Caitlyn

Easy

She is slow, easy to root and you can avoid her skill shots easily too.

VS

Corki

Easy

Corki has low healh but has good poke. Again your root is the way to go here. Should do good damage and give your ADC a short window to cause some damage

VS

Draven

Medium

Draven is tricky. The early game is yours. His range is not great but he does nice damage. Can be hard to pin down with his W speed. Late game is a problem due to the damage he dishes out. Your shield wont help much here.

VS

Ezreal

Hard

Hard to play against with all his skills. A good Ezreal player will be a nightmare for Ivern as he will just dodge your Q all day long

VS

Graves

Medium

He does a lot of damage but should be easy to root. He also has short range and low attack speed. Not easy as he could quite easily kill both you and your ADC with his high damage but I think he is quite easy to play against

VS

Janna

Easy

I think Ivern does best against mage heal supports. Ivern does pretty good damage himself and his shield should be enough to protect your ADC. Root her and she wont have a good day

VS

Jhin

Hard

Jhin does lots of damage. Very hard to play against. His weakness is that he is very slow and you can catch him out but, this is very hard to do. Again, this will be a long poke game

VS

Jinx

Medium

Lots of damage, fast, your shield useless when using in defensive situation due to her damage. She should be easy enough to poke and you can dodge most of her skill shots. Not easy to play against, but not overly hard either

VS

Kalista

Easy

She is quite mobile but you should be able to land your Q on her early game. She has low health and damage is not too high early game. She will get stronger late game but if you have outplayed her in the early game then this should not be a problem

VS

Karma

Hard

High damage, mobile and generally annoying to play against. Again, landing your Q is vital with her but you will spend a lot of time trying to dodge her Q.

VS

Leona

Hard

As with most tank supports, she is hard to play against. Leon does good damage and has several stuns. I suggest levelling your shield first, your ADC will need it early game

VS

Lucian

Medium

Can be tough to pin down. One of the easier ADC's to play against. Land your Q and your ADC will have some fun

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

Shield and your Q should be enough to sustain her. If she gets fed its game over. You don't need to get too close to her due to poke on your Q so can easily avoid her attacks. Not easy to play against as she does some good damage

VS

Morgana

Medium

Avoid her Q and should be fine. Her shield is much better than your but should be a pretty even game against her. Very similar to Ivern although she is the better support. Dodge her skills and you should survive

VS

Nami

Easy

Can be annoying but again, you can stay out of her range. Pin her down and she is very squishy so should have no major problems with her

VS

Sivir

Medium

Can be hard match, depending on the player. Landing your Q could be tricky as she can just use her E all the time to block

VS

Sona

Easy

Your range much better than hers so just poke all day long.

VS

Soraka

Easy

Her primary goal is to top up her ADC with health and prevent you using your skills. One of the easier supports to dispose of. Kill her first and should be easy. If she is low health she becomes useless. Poke her to death

VS

Tahm Kench

Hard

Annoying. Don't pick Ivern into Tahm. It will be a long game if you do

VS

Taric

Hard

Hard to play against as he has lots of health. His ult is also very good at protecting his ADC so if you ult, he should ult. This match up does not favour you, sadly

VS

Thresh

Medium

Another tough customer. You can outplay him with your shields so if he lands his Q on your ADC, shield your ADC and root their ADC if possible. Should be enough for your ADC to escape or cause damage themself

VS

Tristana

Medium

She is annoying but she is easy to pin down. If she lands her E then just use your shield and it should do minimal damage. You will need to time your shield though

VS

Twitch

Hard

Twitch is just really annoying at the moment. He hides and does a lot of damage. Do not pick Ivern into Twitch. You need a tanky support.

VS

Varus

Medium

Varus has very good poke but if you can lock him down then he should die

VS

Vayne

Medium

High damage output. Can be a tough match. Wait for her to use her Q and then try to root her with your Q

VS

Zilean

Easy

Fairly easy, avoid his bombs but your shield should take most of the damage should your or your ADC get caught

VS

Zyra

Medium

She is generally annoying to play against at the moment. Lots of damage, lots of plants. Might be a good idea to level your shield first against her. Root her (the irony) and she should lose lots of health

General Tips Back to Top

Use your W to check normal brush for anyone who might be hiding as it reveals the surrounding area for 3 seconds. Saves using a ward.

Use your Q to root an enemy champion which will enable your ADC (or somebody else) to dash to them. Use your E on them before they dash in to shield them from damage and also cause damage once it explodes and will also slow the enemy.

Your range and damage are increased when in brush so use your W to your advantage. Useful around turrets to deal extra damage and also in team fights.

You can use your Q on non epic monsters (in the jungle) and then dash to them. This does not cause any damage but can be good to escape or save time when in the jungle.

Taking smite will help you and your ADC steal enemy blue/red buff with ease once you have reached level 5. Don't take your own junglers buff's unless they say it's ok ;)

Use your shield on Daisy when trying to escape or catch a champion because of the 70% slow on it.

Pros / Cons Back to Top

Pros:

Very good utility
After level 5 there is always a spare jungle buff available
Able to clear enemy jungle and control scuttle crab
Brush is very good in lane
Has a root, shield, gap closed and AOE knock up with Daisy

Cons:

Low damage mid game
Team dependant
Low mobility
Brush can backfire

Items

40% CDR is useful. My build order would be: 3165.png 3020.png 3152.png 3102.png 3089.png 3116.png
Other items to consider: 3135.png 3151.png 3285.png

Tips

You have good distance on your Q, offers gap closer for the team and does decent damage. You should level this first.
Your E is a good shield and slow. Use to either protect an ally or use on your front line to damage and slow the enemy.
Your W is good to use when attacking turrets or defending your own. Also good to play mind games with enemy with multiple placements to encourage enemy to miss skill shots.
Daisy is great in team fights. You need to remember to keep giving her commands. If whoever she was focusing dies, she will stand still. You can also use her on minions and you will still get the knock up.
