Summoner Spells Back to Top

This should be self explanatory but I'll explain it anyways,

4.png The reason we take flash instead of ghost is because Ivern is the  Janna of the jungle. He isn't a champ who runs people down like Hecarim or Olaf. Flash synergies with iverne.png flashing for the AOE slow in tense situations and flashing to shield a teammate. Flash also synergies with ivernq.pngtoo, if you're nimble enough to flash Q on Ivern that is.

11.png The reason we take smite is because we're jungling. If you don't take smite you cant get the bonus xp from  1039.png. Smite also helps Ivern with counterjungling, as you can mark then smite.

Masteries Back to Top

Cunning: 18

Wanderer: Ivern doesn't benefit from the 5 more damage to monsters and minions because he doesn't hit the camps. The out of combat movement speed helps Ivern move around the jungle a lot faster.

Runic Affinity: Ivern benefits from this more than the other options, the extended blue buff and red buff duration helps your early game presence be stronger.

Meditation: Ivern's job isn't to do damage, the mana pool helps him in the early game with counterjungling.

Greenfather's Gift: This gives you a LITTLE bit of extra damage on ganks, I prefer it over Dangerous Game.

Intelligence: 5% extra CDR on Ivern allows his shield to come up more. Again, we aren't playing Ivern to kill people.

Windspeakers: Windspeakers synergizes with 3190.png3107.png3504.png,iverne.png, and 3174.png. The extra shielding and heals trumps over any other keystone you have the option to take.

Resolve: 12

Recovery: We aren't building a whole lot of resistances on Ivern besides 3190.png, so this is the better option next to Unyielding.

Explorer: The extra movement speed helps Ivern move around the map faster. The movement speed also helps with bush kiting.

Runic Armor: This helps Iverns sustain and also gives his shield and heals more power on himself

Insight: Smite has a reduced cooldown along with your flash. Stacking this 3158.png makes your earlygame pressure VERY STRONG with counterjungling and clearing.

ivernpassive.png Ivern's Passive: Ivern's passive is what allows him to have so much pressure. Ivern's passive takes health and mana in exhange for marking a camp. This camp will then later be able to be consumed for free and grant HP and XP.

ivernq.png Ivern's Q: Ivern's Q is his playmaking skill when used correctly. Ivern's Q is a skillshot snare. When hit, allies can use this to jump to the target by clicking. Daisy and Ivern can also use this. You max this second because it's a skillshot, Ivern's E is more reliable.
ivernw.png Ivern's W: While the bushes may seem kind of lackluster, they aren't. Bushes can block vision when sieging if put across the lane and block vision behind a tower when defending. Bushes also give you vision for a few seconds when casted to scout in your jungle.
iverne.png Ivern's E: Ivern's E is a powerful shield which slows after it pops. You max this first due to the gank pressure and no way to counter the slow but to flash away.
ivernr.png Ivern's R: Daisy. While it may seem once again that Daisy isn't too powerful, she is. Combining your other cc with Daisy's knockup after 3 attacks allows you to chain lock someone for a very long time. You can also force towers down very easily. Daisy can be used as an engage or used to peel, choosing the correct one will decide if the teamfight ends in your favor.

Situational Items

I personally go mejais, but that isn't consistent to buy as a beginner. As you get better with Ivern, you can take this option.
If you need extra siege or lane pressure, Zz'rot isn't a bad buy.
3174.png Athene's on Ivern is the best item on him. You shield's heal people, you get mana regen, 20% CDR, and it's very cheap.

3107.png Redemption is mostly for the active, but it also gives HP and more % on shields and heals, synergyzing with Ivern's E.

3158.png Cooldown boots are mostly for the reduced summoner cooldown which allows smite to be up more  often.

1414.png Runic Echos for the movement speed and Red smite to proc true damage on your bush autos.

3512.png If the game gets this late, Zzrot is a good choice for lane pressure to force sieges with bushes.

3190.png Locket because of all the shield boosting we already have makes this item insane.

3109.png Knight's Vow is a really good item on Ivern. It helps him keep a particular carry alive and also gives him a little sustain if they do a lot of DPS.
3504.pngThe extra shield and heal strength synergizes well with your heals and shield. The passive attack speed and on hit is also really good with your DPS.

VS

Elise

Medium

You win 2v2 if she doesn't cocoon you. Elise usually starts blue, look to take her red level 2. Elise can burst you if she runs into you with cocoon. Get vision when she appears in different places on the map so you don't run into her.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Evelynn lacks the CC to chase you down and lacks the burst earlygame. You win 2v2 and 1v1. Use vision wards and wards for your laners. Ward directly on the camp rather than in bushes with your trinket to keep track of her an countergank her. Evelynn usually starts blue, look to take her red level 2.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Gragas lacks the burst to burst you down, but can chase you if you don't juggle your CC correctly. You win counterganks whether or not he goes on you. E while he's charging at you with his E to block any burst he has. Gragas usually starts blue, feel free to take his red level 2.

VS

Graves

Hard

Graves is another hard matchup. You can invade him and take one of his buffs early, but he can easily kill you if he gets the jump on you. Taking one of his buffs and counterjungling him is the best way to shut him down. You can win 2v2 depending on the matchup.

VS

Hecarim

Medium

You win pre 6, so feel free to get vision in his jungle. You win 2v2 until he's 6. Hecarim can run you down lategame, hide behind carries and shield them. You can peel him off if you juggle CC, but you can't peel him off yourself. Hecarim usually starts blue, feel free to take his red level 2.

VS

Kha'Zix

Hard

While this matchup might seem easy because you're not able to be isolated, it's very rough. Kha can kill you at any point during the game if he's experienced.  Only go into his jungle when he appears somewhere else, then get vision where you can. You win counterganks / 2v2, but lose VERY hard in a 1v1 because he has a gapcloser. Kha starts blue most of the time, take his red level 2.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

Lee sin wins on 2v2 and in 1v1. Lee sin has short enough CD on his gapclosers to catch you in a 1v1 and can sustain well enough to win counterganks. You CAN win 2v2 if Lee isn't experienced but only if he Q's your teammate instead of you. Ward his red, if he starts it then take his blue level 2. Lee can't do much to you lategame when you get locket and redemption. Shield his burst as he starts to ult your carry.

VS

Nunu

Medium

Nunu can consume smite Daisy, so be careful. While Nunu lacks the damage to kill you, he can E spam you long enough for his team to follow, so be careful. You win 2v2 HARD, so look to countergank. Try not to run into melee range of him as he can chase you down. Nunu usually starts blue, look to take red level 2.

VS

Olaf

Medium

You win at all points during the game as he can just run you down. You win 2v2 hard if Olaf isn't 6 though. When Olaf is 6, the only way you'll win a 2v2 is if he as a mechanical error. Get vision and try to ping him off and gank opposite lanes. Olaf starts blue, take his red level 2.

VS

Rek'Sai

Easy

Rek sai lacks the low CD gapclosers to catch you if you invade, so feel free to get vision. You win 2v2, shield yourself before she unborrows.  Ward red to see if she's starting it, if so then take her blue level 2. Juggle cc correctly if you meet her in the jungle and you'll be fully okay.

VS

Rengar

Hard

You lose against Rengar at all stages. Do not walk in his jungle alone. When Rengar goes to gank a lane, ward his jungle to track him, but only then do you walk in his jungle. Rengar can use brushes to jump, so be careful about brush placement. Save your Q until after he uses his empowered W. Do not try to countergank him until you're 6. Gank the lanes he isn't ganking or near. Stand behind your carry so he can't crit you, then help them survive his burst.

VS

Shaco

Medium

You win counterganks very hard pre 6. After 6 it's up to how good the Shaco is to how the countergank / gank will go. 1v1 you always win due to him not being able to catch you. The only time you lose is if he gets the jump on you. Get sweeper at level 9 and peel him off your carries. Shaco lacks the cc to catch you.

VS

Zac

Easy

Zac is a very easy matchup. You can sidestep his E very easily if he's chasing you. Zac usually starts blue, but ward to be sure. Take his opposite buff level 2. Counterjungling Zac is very easy. Look to invade him as often as possible to get vision and take camps. You win 2v2 very hard on counterganks.

Early game Back to Top

Ivern's clear from level 1 to 4 is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljiFO4Z8saY .
Make sure you weave your smite between marking camps. An example of this is mark your gromp then mark your wolves and smite them. So your gromp will be up soon. If did the other way around it would not be efficient. Apply this to all your camps.

Don't always smite your jungle. Try to keep once charge of smite up at all times for counterjungling and scuttle crab.

Play hyper-aggressive and invade, use bushes for vision so you don't run into anyone. Ward enemy camps to alert your team where the enemy jungler is.

Your ganks pre 6 should be you coming from an angle and using your E to slow them. Bush yourself, then use the slow to hit your Q.

Your ganks after 6 should be you spawning Daisy out of vision and having her run in with the speed boost she gets when you spawn her, shield her for the slow, then hit q, she knocks them up, E daisy again. Weave in bush autos through all of this.

Ivern can cheese a buff if you're experienced, it should be as follows:

Ward their topside buff to see if they're starting it.

If they're starting it, mark your buff and your bottom wraiths / wolves, then walk into their jungle and smite their buff after you mark it.

Mid Game Back to Top

Midgame:

Force towers with Daisy after getting pressure in lane.

Gank bot and try to force dragon with Daisy and bushes.

Keep pressuring the enemy jungler by getting wards in his jungle and counterjungling.

Continue vision control and objective control.

Continue counterjungling buffs and camps.

Late Game Back to Top

Lategame:

Ivern's lategame is dependent on how good you are at smiting and peeling your carries. Juggle your CC correctly to peel your important damage dealers / support your tanks. Control vision around baron and dragon using bushes to scout before you ward, so you don't get caught out or cheesed. Use bushes on sieging to hit Q on someone for your team to follow and get a pick. 3 bush the lane to block vision so you can siege towers easily. Distance yourself from the enemy carries so they have to go on yours, then support your carries and keep them alive. If you have no engage, use daisy as an engage with shield on for your team to followup. Daisy has a lot of uses and engaging is her strong suit with the AOE slow.
