No need to comment about flash. Exhaust is needed when you are facing opponents that can kill your adc (assassins or strong marksmen).

Ignite is needed in some circumstances, like when you are facing a soraka. When I'm facing soraka plus one of the champions i mentioned above, i pick exhaust. Ignite is hardly ever used.

howlinggale.pngGreat disengage potetial. It's kinda slow but it's wide enough to be useful. I max it last but 1 level of Q is needed during the lane phase to avoid ganks (can interrupt zac's zacE.png or jarvan's E-Q combo if its correctly timed)

with the core items suggested above you will have 35% CDR ~15minutes in. 3504.png Gives you bonus heal+shield but it's only needed when you play with auto-attacker marksman or you have another auto-attacker in team
for example with this team 92.png20.png7.png81.png40.png you have no auto-attacker in team. So ardent isn't that useful. In that case build 3222.png. It has the same passive effect plus the very useful active cleanse!!
marksmen that don't need ardent censer: 81.png42.png202.png6.png
other laners that need ardent censer: 24.png266.png56.png39.png11.png2.png48.png23.png

Same goes to 3050.png: If you have 81.png42.png202.png6.png in team OR your lucian for example goes for the cleaver-youmous build that doesn't use critical, don't build it. 

P.S. There might be games where you will build something like 3158.png2045.png3069.png3504.png3050.png3190.png
those items give you 50% cdr which will cap on 40%. Nevermind! If you don't like that or if it proves out that 3050.png doesn't work with your team composition, just sell it and buy 3026.png or 3512.png. (3512.png combos great with 3060.png for insane splitpush)

Remember, your shield [E] has 5.5seconds cooldown when you have 45%CDR and it lasts 5seconds. So its like having a permanent shield+attack damge on your marksman. Ardent's passive lasts 6 seconds so its permanent as well and your keystone mastery lasts 3 seconds, so its like having bonus armor+MR more than 50% of the time. 
So, having 45% cdr gives your marksman: shield+attack damage+damage per hit+attack speed+armor+magic resist.

vs other supports Back to Top

Janna is not that strong during the lane phase. You prefer enemy laners as weak as janna so that u can pass lane phase successfully. 
enemies like karma, zyra, blitz, thresh, sona, MF or even soraka are hard to beat. They have either heal for better sustain or poke potential for better trades. 
You prefer enemies like tahm, alistar, taric, leona (yes leona is aggro but u can counter her engage [E] with your [Q])
When you are facing enemies without heal or any sustain, like zyra for example, you can win the trades with your [E]. 
During a trade, remember to tank a couple of skillshots for your marksman because he will (99%) be the enemies' target. Tanking some damage for your adc can win you the fight.


vs Ganks Back to Top

Janna is very good at surviving from ganks. All her abilities help her survive, which can make her immortal if combined with the proper warding. Be sure to stay behind your marksman, so that he gets the bonus movement speed [Passive] if you decide to run back. As mentioned above, your Q (like any other knockup skill) can interrupt many engage spells. You will have it on level 1 so use the cooldown wisely.

[W] this is the most useful skill when it comes to ganking. it gives you bonus movement speed and it can slow the enemies.
BUT
If you are for example 3 people chasing 1 enemy, it is worth to use W on the enemy. Both you and him will lose movement speed but your allies will not, so they will reach the enemy. If there are 3 people chasing you, it IS NOT worth using W on one of them. It will slow you and your target, but 2 of the enemies will still have their maximum movement speed.
