Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png is your most important spell. You hardly buy any defensive items, so you are fairly squishy, hence the quick repositioning.

14.png can be good against a team with lots of health regeneration. Can give pressure for a kill lane, but you are lategame oriented.

3.png is very strong against AD assassins like 23.png, 238.png, 91.png etc. and fed AD Carries. Also good for chasing highly mobile targets.

6.png is useful for maneuvering teamfights and has a way lower cooldown than 4.png.

Pick 12.png if you have no confidence to win your lane, want so scale into late game w/o aggression or want to gank sides lanes a lot.

Masteries Back to Top

For Season 6, 18/0/12 is my way to go.

Ferocity Tree

- Sorcery > Fury for more ability damage (not AP!). 4% attack speed is marginal.
- Feast for sustain or Double Edged Sword for more damage, but it's risky.
- Oppressor is best with your stun or in CC heavy teamfights. Bounty Hunter is better for junglers.
- Piercing Thoughts: you deal more magic than physical damage
- Fervor of Battle is nice for everyone with high attack speed.

Resolve Tree

- Recovery for sustain in lane
- Explorer for faster side lane ganking (Tough Skin brings about 0 effect)
- Runic Armor is only effective in combination with the 3146.png. Veteran's Scars makes you slightly tankier.
- Insight is the best option for any squishy assassin. You can flash more often. Only under 20% health, Perseverance is actually effective. But in this case, you should rather recall - or you will die.

Ability Skill Order

Max your W first for maximum damage, your Q second for escaping and chasing (also additional dmg).
E ist just good for avoiding autohits and the stun.

Always skill your R, as it grants you a good defensive buff as well as stronger auto attacks.

Of course you can take Q or E as a first skill, depending on your matchup.

Ability Scalings with Ability Power

Q: 60%
W: 60%
R: 70%

Update: since patch 6.11, the passive stacks go down one after another.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Corrupting Potion or Boots + 4 Health Pots
for a really aggressive start. not my favourite in most matchups
Best trinket for Jax. You automatically get this, if you leave the base.

new as alternative if you prefer the wild jungle

Situational Items

Exemplary Tanky Build for Toplane ;)
viable offensive/defensive item since 6.9. offers similar stats as a stacked roa

Item Explanations

Start and first back

Start with 2033.png or 1001.png and 4x 2003.png, as you like it (sadly, you cannot combine flasks with pots). 1036.png and 3x 2003.png is also fine. Pre-6, you normally just want to farm in order to get your first item as early as possible. If you are going for 3115.png first, then try to go back with 1250g for 3101.png or at least 820g for 3108.png. Alternatively, go 3057.png (1050g) -> 3100.png as first item.

New Rageblade (6.9)

Attackspeed helps a lot on AP 24.png for more Ult passive proccs (even more with 3124.png).

The most interesting aspect is the passive called "Phantom Hit".
Attacking with  3124.png grants the following attack pattern:

AA, AA, Procc, AA, Procc, AA, Procc etc.

Only for the first procc, you need 2 AAs, for every following just one.

Now add the additional damage from your W and 3100.png procc and your AA will deal about 1500 dmg (when fully built and the target doesn't have any additional MRes). Just the procc itself will deal about 700-800 damage.

My preferred full build:
3006.png3146.png3100.png3124.png3089.png3157.png

3006.png for attack speed and movement speed are the best boots on the Mighty AP 24.png for obvious reasons.

3146.png grants strong sustain. The active is now instant (6.9), the rest of the stats remain unchanged.

3089.png is a great pure-damage item, especially since its recent buff (now grants 35% additional AP instead of 30%). If you're confident, you can replace it with 3041.png (not recommended).

3157.png is, in my humble opinion, the best defensive item due to its active. Also, it grants additional AP for even more damage as well as 10% CDR (6.9).

3124.png is, since Patch 6.9, an even stronger alternative to 3115.png (but has no CDR). Grants both AD and AP, one passive grants 15 magic on-hit damage. Slightly increased cost since Patch 5.23. Old Sated Devourer's passive is the new Rageblade's passive.

3030.png offers similar stats as a stacked 3027.png, but has a cone-formed slow. Good for catching up or escaping.

3116.png can be situationally good if there are lot of champs with high MS in the enemy team. Its slow passive procs from your Ult procs and your W.

3285.png isn't that great, but you can give it a try.

3001.png is okay-ish, but only good if the enemy team has at least 2 (fed) AP carries. Grands AP, MRes and, since 6.9, 10% CDR. 3065.png is better in terms of actual tankiness (500 HP, 10% CDR, 25% increased healing).

3143.png and 3102.png are currently (especially in combination) the best defensive items in the game. Only pick both if you are far behind and want to make a comeback as a AP bruiser.

The Mighty AP 24.png doesn't really need any MPen to deal "tons of damage" (pun intended), so items like 3020.png or 3135.png are a waste of gold.

VS

Ahri

Hard

Difficulty: 8/10 to 10/10

She can keep her distance while safely farming and harrassing you at the same time.
Try to bait her E then jump in for a trade.
If she ults to get away, don't bother flashing after her. It will not be worth.
Try to farm as good as possible, get to level 6 and avoid unnecessary risks.

VS

Akali

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10

She will harrass you with Q all day long. Trading before level 4/6 can be dangerous, her pre-6 damage is often underestimated.
If she places her shroud on herself, either she wants to secure the cannon minion or a gank is about to start.

VS

Anivia

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

One of the worst matchups you could face. Luckily, hardly anyone ever plays the icebird these days.
She is fairly squishy and a level 2 all-in (with ignite) can bring her down (even with her passive up).
Normally though she will keep harrassing from a safe distance. Her stun/slow + E combo can be devastating.

VS

Annie

Medium

Difficulty: 7/10

Nothing much you can about her. Point-and-click stun, can't be missed (if she engages with disintegrate.png). Try to burst her down faster than she is able to.

VS

Azir

Medium
He can lot the living hell out of you, but once he used his spells offensively, he is vulnerable to your counter attack. So it comes down to how well you handle him in the first few minutes of the laning phase. azirE.png has a high cooldown, abuse it if he uses it improperly.

VS

Brand

Medium

If you manage to juke his brandfissure.png ,then this matchup can be considered to be easy. If not, you're going to be in a lot of trouble.

VS

Diana

Hard

Difficulty: 12/10

Hard matchup. What else can i say? OP omg nerf!!!111
Seriously, try to juke her dianaQ.png in order to deny ult resets. That's about it.

VS

Ekko

Hard

Difficulty: 9/10

As long you don't get stunned by ekkoW.png, the matchup is considered to medium. But if you do, you'll get #rekt. Many 245.png players will try to offensively ult right onto you - careful!

VS

Ezreal

Hard

Difficulty: 8/10

This little fucker will make the laning phase living hell for you. if you manage to cope with all his poke though and are at least even in farm, you win. In a 1v1, he can't really do anything against you - you are way stronger.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10 - 6/10

Can go either way - you are both snowbally. If he gets an early kill - play really carefully and wait for a gank. If you manage to get an early kill - make fish sticks and fry him in his salty tears.

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

Difficulty: 9/10

The father of all annoying imps. Try to farm as good as you can, but do not ever engage when there are his turrets nearby - so never. Even ganking is dangerous. Your best bet is farming well *ahem* and roaming to sidelanes in order to get some kills/assists.

VS

Karthus

Easy

Difficulty: 3/10

Actually the only "easy" matchup. Stay in between your minions, so his laywaste.png's damage isn't doubled. Your jaxcounterstrike.png reduces his fallenone.png's damage by 25%, since it's considered an AoE effect - remember this! Try to jump on him whenever possible; cheese him down and you will have no problems against him, even less in a 1v1 situation.

VS

Kassadin

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10

His early game isn't that bad actually, so look out for his burst. Your jaxcounterstrike.png reduces AoE damage by 25%, but that's about it. After 6, it's really hard to kill him, he'll just run away like the chicken he is. Damagewise, you will win (despite his passive).

VS

Katarina

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

No-Mana-Poke all day long until you're low enough for her to all-in. Even farming under turret is hard. Ask for frequent ganks, so she is pressured to play defensively.
You can use your jaxcounterstrike.png for cancelling her ult, try to time it right. This might turn a teamfight into your favor.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

Difficulty: 8/10

Rather annoying, but always dangerous. Her early-game damage is high, but your late-game damage is even higher. Don't feed her early kills, since the will snowball out of control. Try to juke her leblancsoulshackle.png, so you don't get rooted. You can even juke her leblancslide.png by walking towards her/Qing onto her for a backtrade.

VS

Lux

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

Lane is nearly impossible to win due to her extremely long range and stupidly strong CC.
Try to farm up and have an impact at securing objectives and in teamfights.

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

90.png: You attack me? alzaharnethergrasp.png LoL fuck you!
Really hard to win without any MRes.

VS

Master Yi

Easy

Difficulty: 2/10

Heavy auto attacker vs. a champion with a dodge/stun? Perfect. Careful of his ult all-in in the early game though.

VS

Morgana

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

Most OP champ anyone can pick against any assassin, mage, or CC heavy champion.
Your best bet is to engage when she misses her darkbindingmissile.png.
Don't even bother trying to stun her, blackshield.png will prevent any CC and absorb some magic damage (no physical damage though!).

VS

Orianna

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10 - 8/10

Can be easy, depending on the 61.png's skill level. Juke her commands every time she uses them onto you, jump on her, win the trade. Her orianaredactcommand.png will come too late to shield her against your damage.

VS

Ryze

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

Big nope. New 13.png is about 30% stronger than the old one. Only think about trading, when his runeprison.png AND spellflux.png are on cooldown. Then you have a tiny chance to win the trade.

VS

Swain

Medium

Difficulty: 7/10

Pick 14.png against his swainmetamorphism.png's sustain. With his sustained damage, he can poke better, but you all-in is stronger, if you ignite him. Careful of his swainshadowgrasp.png though.

VS

Talon

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10 - 9/10

Can go either way. Once played against a 91.png who had 4 farm after 8 minutes. Yes.
Once played against a 91.png who had 2 kills from me after 8 minutes.

You can play aggressive and do frequent trades, but be wary of his bleed and annoying ult.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

Difficulty: 4/10

If he doesn't have his pickacard.png up, he is dead meat for you. Punch him hard with you hockey stick.

VS

Varus

Easy

Difficulty: 1/10

Without his ult, he is completely defenseless. Feed yourself.
One of the easiest matchups.

VS

Veigar

Medium
Difficulty: 5/10 - 10/10

Difficulty depends on how well he farms and how well he can place his stun. If he does land it, he can blow you to smithereens. Buy a 3102.png or at least an 3001.png against him.
If you can dominate him in the laning phase, you can shut him down for a long time. His veigareventhorizon.png is really hard to hit; abuse this.

P.S.: You only get stunned when you touch the border, not when you stand right in it.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium

Difficulty: 7/10

Long range, true damage - what do you want more?
Okay, he is squishy, slow and has low defensive stats. Jump on him when he failed his velkozE.png. Then it's a piece of cake. In teamfights, his contribution is way higher than yours though.

VS

Viktor

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10 - 9/10

If he plays is right, you can't even come close to the enemy minions; he can effectively zone you from farming. Don't let this happen. Go ham from level 2, show him who is boss.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

Difficulty: 5/10

Pick 14.png for the all-in, his sustain is plain stupid. Wait for him to use his vladimirsanguinepool.png, the go all-in; you will win it, especially in the early game. His poke in the laning phase is otherworldly, since he doesn't need mana, all poke against him will be in vain.

VS

Yasuo

Hard

Difficulty: 10/10

Don't fight him early on, in late-game you wreck him if you manage to land a stun. His damage will be higher in most phases of the game.

VS

Zed

Medium

Difficulty: 7/10

Don't be fooled by his shadows early on, or you won't stand a chance against him. 21.png and 3.png proved useful against him.
You can easily 1v1 him in late-game, if you got good farm and/or some kills.
After 6, activate your jaxcounterstrike.png when he ults you in order to mitigate some of his damage.

Wtf is wrong with you? AP Jax? Really?? Back to Top

I suppose you already played the classic AD bruiser 24.png. You expect every 3rd auto attack for increased damage, like "1... 2... bam!". Over and over again. You burst AD Carries and mages who failed their CC, cheese down the supports who missed their hooks and grabs while jumping around like a madman.

Experience all of this in "high risk - high reward" situations with massive burst!

Make your enforced auto attacks 100 times more scary by playing

The Mighty AP 24.png!

Godlike attack speed, massive burst (~1500 damage) and extreme mobility (3 sec Q cooldown)!

Go hard or go home!

Playstyle Back to Top

As a mage, or rather as a magic damage dealing fighter, and since you'll normally buy one defensive item at most - you are squishy! Hence 4.png is the most valuable spell in your repertoire.
Be wary of what you do and when you do it. Playing AP 24.png is similar to playing 84.png or 38.png.

Laning Phase

On lane, always watch out what your opponent does - or doesn't. Before level 6, only trade if your opponent doesn't have any dangerous CC (or missed his spells). After you reach level 6, do 2 auto attacks on minions, Q leap onto enemy, then W -> auto attack for maximum damage output at a trade.

If you're up against a melee opponent, you can start trading whenever you want. Start auto attacking your opponent. The moment you get minions aggro, turn on your E, so it deals more damage (25% increased damage for every dodged auto attack, up to a maximum of 200%). You can also save your Q in order to follow up a mobility spell (e.g. 238.png's W) or to escape.

Teamfights

In teamfights, always (!) let others (normally the tank/tanks) engage, then follow up immediately and either try to delete an enemy carry or start to decimate their frontline. Only engage, if you see a squishy target out of position and you have your 3157.png up. And make sure your team follows.

This is the only skin that works for The Mighty AP 24.png. Trust me, I'm an engineer.
