Summoner Spells Back to Top

Jax as a champion revolves around his strength as a 1v1 fighter and a split-pusher, often requiring multiple enemies to stop him. However, there is a build that allows not only 1v1 power, but incredible amounts of health and teamfight potential if played correctly.

4.png - Flash is the summoner spell that I find to be a must on Jax. Without it, you are susceptible to early ganks and flash engages from enemies. In addition, it allows for surprise flash-engages on enemies in teamfights. For the purposes of this build, always take Flash.

12.png - The Flash/Teleport combo of summoner spells is what I find to be the best combination of spells which allows Jax to excel at all point of the game.

6.png - If you really think that your enemies will be faster than you, and you don't need to worry about global map pressure, then feel free to take ghost. This, in addition to the Stormraider's Surge that you take in your Masteries, and low cooldowns, will make sure that you are always going at maximum velocity.

14.png -  Ignite is probably the most situational spells for you to take in top lane as Jax. Against enemies with great sustain or good early pressure, ignite can be helpful to snowball an early lead.

Masteries Back to Top

Masteries are where you can take your opponent (and even your friends) by surprise. The large majority of Jax players are inclined to take the 'Fervor of Battle' Keystone, however, in this specific build, 'Stormraider's Surge' is the way to go. Stormraider's allows for 2 things. Quick lane trades and teamfight chase potential.

Lane Trades - This is the less important aspect of taking the Keystone. Jax has a big damage combo that you can perform in lane.  Your Wjaxempowertwo.png, Rjaxrelentlessassault.png pasive, and Sheen3057.png proc deals around 600 damage if done in the same auto attack, and this is enough for you to proc your Keystone and run away taking minimal damage in return. Perform this trade as often as you can in lane to bully your opponent out of lane.

Teamfight Chases - This is where Jax shines with this build. His ability to do insane amounts of damage is already enough, but with the addition of Stormraider's, there is no escape for your enemies. Slow resist and an insane amout of movement speed is awesome for sticking to opponents, even if they have slows. They will not expect your speed and damage because who in their right mind runs Stormraider's on Jax?

There's nothing special about the order of these abilities taken. They are standard on most Jax players, and this build is no different. Always take your E jaxcounterstrike.png first. This will allow you to get off early lv1 trades with your opponent. This works even better if their first ability or most of their damage is auto attack based, such as Irelia 39.png, Darius 122.png, or Graves 104.png. This, plus your corruption potion will be awesome for early trades with opponents. The W jaxempowertwo.png is the skill you max first due to the increased damage and the lowered cooldown. Finally, your Q jaxleapstrike.png is what you are doing to take second and max second. At max rank and 40% cdr, this ability has around a 4 second cooldown, allowing you to stick to your opponents.

Level up Ult jaxrelentlessassault.png whenever possible for good damage output and suitability with its bonus tank stats.

There are several advantages to taking this build over a standard build. In addition to great chase potential, 'Sticky Jax' can still both teamfight and splitpush. The idea of this build revolves around getting to, then sticking to opponents, hence the name. Triforce3078.png provides the damage, and Frozen Mallet 3022.png plus Phage 3044.png proc from the triforce PLUS Stormraider's Surge will make sure that your target never gets away from you.

In Addition to these damage stats, this build also allows for you to become incredibly tanky thanks to 2 defensive items and health from all 3 of your offensive items. (Boots can be sold late game for more health or damage)

This build relies on your choices early game and your ability to out maneuver your lane opponent.

  1. After completing the Mallet and Triforce, you need to take a moment to see where you are compared to others in the game.
  2. If you are the most fed, get Titanic Hydra 3748.png then complete 2 situational tank items.
  3. If you are not the most fed in the game, build defensive stats against the person who is then complete your hydra later.
  4. If you are behind, delay the Mallet. Farm side lanes with your Teleport 12.png up until you are equal in gold. DO NOT GET CAUGHT OUT at any cost. This will not only hurt your chances of catching back up in gold, but it will also further your opponents lead and make the game more difficult for your allies.
The defensive items that you get are all very situational. If you see yourself needing to split more, Pick up a Zz'Rot Portal 3512.png instead of a Guardian Angel 3026.png late game. The same type of decision needs to be made for your other items as well: Such as Maw 3156.png versus Spirit Visage 3065.png when it comes to burst damage versus Damage Over Time.

Darius

Darius versus Jax is a skill matchup, but it will often go in favor of Jax. Your ability to dodge his AA reset dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png with your Counter Strike jaxcounterstrike.png will decide how fights go in early laning phase.

Darius can also win a full 1v1 at lv6 due to the strength of his Ult dariusexecute.png. Your best bet is to poke him down with your R jaxrelentlessassault.png passive and W jaxempowertwo.png on the same hit till he is around half health.

Both Champions will most likely start with the Corrupting Potion 2033.png as their starting item. A possible way to get the advantage on him early game is to play aggressive and force both parties to use their charges. You should back pretty much right after the fight, purchase a Pink Ward 2043.png, and Teleport12.png back to lane. This will leave the enemy with 2 options: Do the same strategy and burn his Teleport 12.png OR be at a health disadvantage for a few minutes, causing them to miss farm and possibly die.

This is the strategy that I use against many top laners who take Ignite 14.png as a way to punish them early game.
