Summoner Spells Back to Top

Why Teleport?

12.png ensures a quick return to lane and allows you to provide map pressure.
14.png if you are mid or if you are going against a top laner you can kill over and over like teemo.

New Runes Back to Top

The runes in the Domination tree will allow you to make quick, bursty trades, and come out on top. Aery just is not as good post-nerf.

Make sure to take advantage of Presence of Mind whenever you level-up. It is a very underrated rune which can get you free damage in.

Leveling E goes more with the quick burst playstyle, because some champs you can try to extend trades with autos, but you will simply get smashed if you don't disengage quickly. E second also makes you harder to itemize against, because your E deals magic damage. Also, leveling E now reduces its CD, whereas before, it did not.

Passive: Hextech Capacitor

Because of this passive, when you are walking to a destination, you will want to switch forms to constantly gain the move speed boost.

Note: When you are roaming, make sure you enter the scene in Cannon Form so that you can combo and quickly walk through Acceleration Gate and then switch to melee and To the Skies!

Q: To the Skies! / Shock Blast

You will want to fire your Shock Blast and immediately Acceleration Gate as close as possible to yourself to get the Shock Blast to its destination as soon as possible. This way, the enemy will have a lot less time to react.
You will want to learn the AOE of the un-charged blast and the charged blast.
Note: Shock Blast reveals fog of war for a brief duration on impact
You will want to use To the Skies! whenever the enemy has already used his/her escape spell and/or CC ability because you can be stopped mid-air and the damage and slow will not go through
Note: To the Skies is unique gap-closer because it is a targetted ability but will miss If the enemy has an escape spell. For instance, if the enemy flashes as soon as you To the Skies! onto them, you will land at their original position and not deal damage or slow.

W: Lightning Field / Hyper Charge

Hyper Charge resets your auto attack so you can auto and immediately Hyper Charge to deal a huge amount of damage.
Hyper Charge also allows you to take down towers extremely fast
Also, having a little extra damage from Lightning Field never hurts.

Note: if you activate Hyper Charge and switch to Melee, you will still have 3 hyper-charged attacks as long as you did not use any of them yet.

E: Thundering Blow / Acceleration Gate

Acceleration Gate is one of the most useful skills in the game. This will help your team quickly disengage and reposition from a fight from AOE team comps. Because of this, ideally you want to place it in a position that your entire team can benefit from.
Note: Acceleration Gate reveals fog of war for its duration

Thundering Blow is your only hard disengage ability. However, be cautious when using it because you will be vulnerable to gap-closing abilities if the enemy has saved them.

R: Transform: Mercury Cannon / Transform: Mercury Hammer

This ultimate is often overlooked. Most people will utilize the Bonus damage from Transform: Mercury Hammer effectively, but they will forget about the % armor/MR shred that Transform: Mercury Cannon provides. It will not make much of a difference early/mid game, but Late game the shred will help destroy tanks in combination with Black Cleaver and Last Whisper.
Also, the armor and MR boost from Transform: Mercury Hammer can be useful in clutch low HP situations

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Get this by default for early bullying and trading.

Core Items

First back start building towards Youmuu's and get Serrated Dirk if possible. Get a Doran's Blade if you need sustain. Edge of Night is no longer good after the nerfs.
Get an early Tabi if your opponent is auto heavy and can stick to you, like Yasuo, Riven, Fiora. I tend to shy away from Merc Tread's vs. AP since it isn't very cost efficient from a damage-reduction standpoint.
After Youmuu's, get black cleaver or trinity force. Black Cleaver for more tanky teams, trinity force for squishier teams.
Your main defensive item vs high burst AD comps
Your best early MR item. If you are having trouble early, get this before Dirk. Don't upgrade to Maw until later in the game.

Situational Items

You're going against a laner like Malphite or Nasus who is rushing straight armor.

Standard Build

You want your first item to give AD so you have instant trading power. Getting3070.png on first back is a bit outdated, and it doesn't give any instant trading power.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

He is a sustain monster with his W, but for him to sustain, he has to auto. If he autos creeps, you're abusing your range on him.

VS

Ahri

Medium
103_64.pngShe can counter your push and has the potential to kill you early on. Play safely early. Ahri will want to land as many Qs on you as possible to poke you, and landing an E basically gives her a free Q. Any time she misses her E or Q pre-6, she is a sitting duck so all-in her. Post-6, the same applies, but she can ult to dodge your To the Skies! and also your Shock Blast. However, there's a short cool down between uses of her ult, and use that to your advantage.

VS

Akali

Easy

84_64.pngPre-6 you can easily punish her for coming to get creeps. Any time her Twilight Shroud is down, she is a sitting duck for your full combo. You will need to put tremendous pressure on her pre-6 because once she hits 6, she can beat you in an all-in. Even if you walk through Acceleration Gate and Thundering Blow her to escape, she can simply ult back onto you. However, if you forced her to use all her potions and created a significant gold and/or experience advantage by forcing recalls, then she will be unable to kill out-trade you. Do not overextend too far because she can stick to you with her 3 ult charges.

VS

Anivia

Easy
34_64.pngAnivias typically don't rush seekers armguard because they will need a 3070_32.png3010_32.png or3028_32.png to make up for mana problems, and you will outtrade her pre-6. Her Q is so slow that you should never get hit by it. If you never get hit by a Q, she has no laning power on you pre-6 because her E relies on her Q. Play extra aggro on her. Once she hits 6 she can counter your push pretty well, but you can still egg her pretty easily.

VS

Annie

Medium
1_64.pngSince her Q is on such a low CD and is targetted, she can poke and zone you pretty hard early on since your poke isnt targetted. Watch for when she has her passive up or is about to have it up. If you get help from the jungler though, she is an easy kill because she has no escapes, and her only CC is her passive. Once you hit mid-game though, if you have played safely enough, you should be able to poke and kill her with ease since she has no escapes. Just don't dive her when she has her passive ready.

VS

Brand

Easy
63_64.pngDodge his W harass early on and he will be an easy kill at mid game since he has no escapes. Any time he misses a skill, especially at level 1 or 2, dump him.  Have your jungler gank him, and he will be an easy kill.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium
69_64.pngShe can poke you constantly with her Q, but she has no escapes but has tons of damage for an all-in fight if you're poisoned. All in when she misses poison, that way her twin fang can't be used on the low CD.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy
31_64.pngThis guy is the king of sustain. You will do a decent amount of damage to him in an all-in, but if you zone him you will prevent him from using his passive to heal up. If he misses either his Q or W you win the trade. Once he is 6, be weary that his ult will hurt.

VS

Darius

Medium

If he aggros and uses Q a lot, freeze the wave at your tower. You will have to take advantage of your range from level 1 to hit him while he cannot hit you back. Every time he misses dariuscleave.png you can outtrade easily. If he pulls you you need to Thundering Blow him away before he can W you. Double Dorans for sustain and Red Crystal for the extra HP is almost necessary if you're behind so you don't get one shot comboed when he's 6.

VS

Diana

Medium
131_64.pngPre6 you need to punish her for getting CS or make her use her Q to CS by abusing your range. Stand away from the creeps on which ever side you warded (so you don't get ganked and so Diana can't Q you AND the creeps) Once she hits 6, you need to poke her so that she will think twice about ulting to you. Very similar to akali, but she has a shield

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

You can zone him very very easily. Constantly move around behind your creeps to avoid his cleavers and keep harassing him with autos. If he does not respect your damage and gets greedy for CS, as soon as he uses cleaver to last hit/misses, Hammer Form and QWautoE him, he cannot trade at all with you when his cleaver is on CD.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Ekko has a hard time farming early on. Play against him like you would play vs Fizz, except he has two dashes from his E. You can either shove him into tower and get free damage on him while he tries to last hit at his turret, or keep trading with him outside of his W.

VS

Evelynn

Easy
28_64.pngYou will always out-trade her. You can harass her from pretty early because she is melee and force her to Q for CS. If you fight her any time in a 1v1 situation, she will either W and run away with less health than you or you will kill her. If she begins to roam, place a pink ward in the middle of the lane so you can see which way she goes, and either follow if it is safe or push her tower.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy
9_64.pngIf hes dumb enough to fear+drain you just walk behind him, knock him back toward your tower and destroy him because he has no way to trade with you after that combo nor does he have any escape.

VS

Fiora

Hard

Fiora can be a pain. Her all in will destroy yours because you can Thundering Blow her away and she still latches onto you with her move speed boost and fioraq.png. Whatever you do, do not let her parry your E. Your only advantage is level 1 and 2, and you will need to harass as much as you can to possibly build yourself up into a position where she cannot all-in you. Level 3 you will lose an all-in. Consider an early 3047_32.png

VS

Fizz

Hard
105_64.pngTake advantage of the fact that early on Fizz is melee and force him to eat damage for overextended CS. If you play aggressively enough and force him to use his E defensively, then he will have no way to trade with you pre6. Post6 he is a nightmare for you because he has two gap closers, a dodge, and a knockup. Post6 you will lose an extended trade, so do not push too far out when he has ult up.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Beginning from level 1 he will have to Q for CS. If he wants to auto for CS then you can pound him easily. Either he misses a lot of CS as you zone him or you kill him. Gangplank simply has no advantage whatsoever in the matchup.

VS

Garen

Easy

Easy lane: kite this guy for days. Keep auto harassing him until he backs off the creep wave. He should pretty much never be able to combo you. If he uses his Q to try and run to you, Gate behind you, run through, shoot a Q if you have a clear line. When the effect wears off, switch to hammer and Q onto him and pound. If he starts to spin then thundering blow him away and win every trade. Early 1001_32.png3044_32.png for sure

VS

Gnar

Easy

Your range is larger than his. Dodge his ranged Q, and you will win every trade. Switch to melee and wait for the cd on your ult. Begin a trade by Qing onto him. If he doesn't E away, full combo him and win the trade. If he E's away, your Q will be up before his E is again, so zone him while his E is on cooldown

VS

Gragas

Medium
79_64.pngThe only way he can farm without being in melee range is by using his barrel. If you pay attention to the health of your creeps, you can predict that he will throw his barrel to a group of low HP minions. If you anticipate this, then combo him when his barrel is on cooldown. If he goes up to auto for a last hit, punish him with your range.
When he gets his ult, be wary for jungler ganks. Otherwise, you outpoke and outtrade and have an easier time farming than this fatty.

VS

Irelia

Hard

Pre6 you have an advantage and you will need to harass the junk out of her and zone her to build a strong CS and experience advantage. If you see her waste ireliahitenstyle.png, wait until the active is up and force a trade on her. She will have to use ireliaequilibriumstrike.png to disengage. Post 6, her all ins will completely destroy you. Once she gets a Trinity Force you're in for a rough time. Don't stand next to low HP creeps or she can Q to them for a last hit refresh, unleash her combo on you, and then Q to you again if you thundering blow.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

Pre 6 if you dodge his E Q combo you will be fine. If he pokes you with his Q, zone him while it is on CD because he won't be able to CS. Once he hits 6 he has enough burst to kill you in one combo if you get hit by an E Q.

VS

Jax

Medium

You will easily win trades pre 6 because you can E him away if he attempts to Q onto you with his E to stun. You will want to zone him as much as possible early on to prevent him from scaling, but because he scales so well, if he plays safe enough, he will eventually outscale you. Laning against him is like laning vs Irelia except Jax scales way better. When he gets a 3144_32.png you can no longer do much to him.

VS

Karthus

Easy
30_64.pngThis one's pretty annoying because he can constantly poke you where ever you are. If you stand near the creeps so his Q doesn't hit for full damage, then he will push lane and get easy farm. If you stand away from the creeps his constant Qs will poke you for a load. His range is large enough that you using poke on the ranged minions will never hit him. If he plays safely from range, this will turn into a farm-fest because if you try to pounce him in your melee form he will simply put his wall up and run.

VS

Kassadin

Easy
38_64.pngHe's pretty much as easy at it gets. Pre-6 punish him ever time he wants to get CS because he is melee. Eventually, he will either backoff from farm and waste mana using his Q to CS or you can kill him easily. If he Qs you then wait until the silence wears off and dome the nerd. If he starts cloth 5, then do not push the lane and zone him, and call your jungler for an easy kill. Post-6 You can push lane much faster than him and roam. He can follow you with his ult but at the expense of his tower. This means the jungler will have to hold his lane, and this takes pressure off other lanes.

VS

Katarina

Medium
55_64.pngShe has no mana costs and can outplay both your poke and melee Q by shunpoing onto you. If she shunpos at the right time when you Shock Blast, she will completely dodge it while initiating her combo on you. If you To the Skies! onto her and she shunpos while you are mid-air, you will land in her original spot while she will initiate her combo onto you. Because of this, she will outtrade you in small poke exchanges, but if she ults, just knock her out of it and you will win any all-in exchange

VS

Kayle

Easy
10_64.pngHarass her when her E is on cd, stay clear of the minion wave and her range when she uses E to farm. When she is melee, if she tries to CS then punish her. Pre-6 you will defeat her in any prolonged exchange this way. Post-6 you will destroy her in any exchange but she will have her ult as a safeguard. If you can correctly flash behind her and knock her toward your tower at the end of the exchange, it should buy you enough time to kill her when her ult runs out.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium
121_64.pngEarly on because he is melee, you can bully him and cause him to miss CS. If he gets greedy for CS then continue to make him pay health for it until he backs off or dies. Mid-game his waveclear and poke ability is similar to yours if he is able to get gold. Do not engage him if your creep wave is smaller than his because he can jump onto you and either cause you to take more damage from creeps than him or force you away from the line in order to gain isolation damage on his Q. However, if you are ahead in gold as you should be from early game aggression, you will be able to dominate him in trades.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard
7_64.pngYou outrange her with your EQ and outpush her because if she uses any of her skills on creeps, she cannot combo you. However, she can trade safely with a QW combo and all you can do is autoattack back. Abuse her while her W is on CD before she gets her ult so that she will be scared to CS and approach you to trade.

VS

Lux

Medium
99_64.pngThis one's tough if the lux is good. She has the potential to harass you at a range where you cannot hit back if she Es you and positions well behind her creeps. If she plays aggressively, she will constantly throw her E and Q at you. Any time she misses the Q, destroy her because she has no way to peel you off from your full combo.

VS

Malphite

Hard

He builds 3068.png and stacks armor. The key in this matchup is landing your ranged ult to reduce his armor by %. You can win early trades, but you have to put a lot of pressure on him before he gets a glacial shroud or chain vest. Consider first item Last Whisper if he is stacking straight armor.

VS

Malzahar

Easy
90_64.pngThis sucker will push with his malefic visions all day because thats all he can do. Auto as much as you can to slow the push, and keep up in CS. Call your jungler because he has no escapes and he is one of the easiest kills because his only hard CC is hit ult which still leaves him as a wide open target.

VS

Mordekaiser

Medium
82_64.pngGet your jungler to gank and then he will be an easy kill. If your jungler does not help you, then wait until his E is on cooldown and then trade with him. It is better for him to have a shield and still take damage than for you to eat his E and he gets the shield anyway. You will not be able to poke him down because of his shield, but if you unleash your full combo on him, he will take much more damage than you. Try to engage him in positions where his skills will damage as little creeps as possible to minimize his shield gain.

VS

Morgana

Easy
25_64.pngThis is an easy matchup. The only thing she can do is W creeps and go for snares pre6. The snares are easy to dodge, and you should be able to counterpush her just by constantly autoing and occasionally Shock Blast Acceleration Gate comboing. She simply does not do enough damage in exchanges if you don't stand in her W. Her black shield is a joke because you do all physical damage except for your E. The only way she can kill you is with jungler ganks, so you should have an easy time playing aggressive against her and farming.

VS

Nasus

Medium

He will likely have cloth 4 so auto harass alone will not suffice. Start in Hammer form. If he overextends to try and get a creep, then QW auto E and switch to ranged followup with auto QE W auto auto auto (the QE should be easy to hit since he is slowed from your melee Q). He has no way to trade back with you early on if you threaten to all in. Do not overextend too far into the enemy creep wave though. You NEED to apply pressure early, because this lane becomes much more difficult when he gets a glacial shroud.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

He will probably build 3068.png first item. You can win trades and zone, but his teamfight presence will be much more dominant than yours, so you need a strong lead.

Hide behind minion waves and poke. He can only reach you if you get hit by a Q.

VS

Nidalee

Medium
76_64.png Because she has a heal and is ranged just like you, she is hard to constantly poke down and could out-sustain you. If she makes the mistake of cougar forming to get CS or gets too close, poke and immediately switch to melee and jump her. You will outtrade her if she jumps away, but if her jump is wasted then it is a free kill.

VS

Orianna

Medium
61_64.pngThis one can be tough early on. If you try to auto-trade with her, she can do just as much if not more damage back due to her passive. She also has the ball for shield and more armor. However, once you get brutalizer and blue, you can poke her from afar with ranged EQ and push her out of lane and even score a kill.

VS

Renekton

Hard

This is possibly one of the hardest matchups. Whenever Renekton is in meta, it sucks to play Jayce. You will need lightning fast reflexes to win this lane. Keep max range at all times. The range on his E is 450, and his stun increases his auto range to 175. As soon as he uses his first dash towards you, you will need to be ready to switch to melee and E. You need to Thundering Blow him away before he gets into auto range to proc his stun+Q.

Whenever he tries to combo you, RETURN DAMAGE WHILE KEEPING DISTANCE. Once he completes his combo, you need to maximize your ranged advantage and chase him down as he retreats.

The lane gets a lot tougher once he builds some damage, since he has sustain and you don't.

VS

Riven

Medium
92_64.pngThis matchup is somewhat hard. You have the advantage level 1 through range but at level 3 you need to be careful. If you see her starting to walk up to you immediately run backward to force her to use as many dashes as possible to reach you. Level 1 and 2, if she tries to trade with you, avoid all damage and punish her with range when she tries to retreat. Consider starting boots to try and outplay her mobility.

VS

Rumble

Medium

Level 1 poke and harass with ranged form. Level 2 and onwards, play aggressive in melee. force him to trade any time he is in your melee Q range, and you will win every short trade. Also, Thundering Blow turns him around so his Q doesn't hit you.

VS

Ryze

Easy
13_64.pngYou will outburst this guy all game long. Because he has no wave clear, you can push him to his tower. Once you have a bigger wave and initiate a trade, he will have to choose between using his Q on creeps to last hit and take unanswered damage or to trade with you and lose last hits. A full combo from you will do more damage than a full combo from him.

VS

Shyvana

Easy

You can zone her completely for the majority of the laning phase. Early levels she will have to E to get CS so you can keep her from getting experience when her E is on CD. If she attempts to W to you pre-6 to all in, you can kite her around and hit her until she is actually in front of you, then all you have to do is Thundering Blow her and laugh.Once she gets her ult she can all in you if you are too far from your turret, so freeze your lane and you should be perfectly fine.

VS

Singed

Easy

This is an easy lane. Because Singed has no sustain, you can keep poking him with range. If he tries to W you so he can E, you have enough time to outrun him so he will never catchup to you. Post 6, do not all in him unless he is pretty low or else you will take huge damage from his Q while you chase.

VS

Swain

Medium
50_64.pngEarly on he is weaker than you. You can destroy him pre-6. If he misses his snare, just all-in him because he needs all 3 of his skills to trade. Post-6 if you see him ult creeps to regain health, wait a couple of seconds and engage him if he still has it on because it will drain all his mana if he keeps it on during the exchange. If he turns it off you have 8 seconds to kill him where he is the same as pre-6.

VS

Syndra

Hard
134_64.pngA good syndra will Q you every time you go in for CS in the early levels. She is relatively easy to gank because she has no escapes. Her auto+Q+W will outtrade your ranged harass, so try your best to dodge them. If you try to To the Skies! her, she will simply E you and continue to onslaught you with Qs and autos while you can do nothing because you are melee, so if she misses her E she is a sitting duck.

VS

Talon

Medium
91_64.pngEasy lane, punish him for getting CS. If he uses his W on creeps or misses you, you can all-in him and easily kill him pre6. Post6 just poke him and he will be forced to use his ult to escape if you trade. If he E W Qs onto you then jump onto him because you will outtrade him in a prolonged exchange. DO NOT LET HIM DAMAGE YOU FOR FREE. Keep in mind that his E makes him show-up behind you but silences you for 1 second. Therefore, always face him so he'll show up on the side closer to your tower, and make sure he is still behind you until silence wears off, and then knock him toward your tower to create a prolonged exchange.

VS

Teemo

Easy

When you trade autos his DOT will outdamage you, so you have to all-in him. His Q blinds your autoattacks, but your other skills completely destroy him in an all-in. Couple this with the fact that he has no sustain and you will force him to back pretty easily.

VS

Trundle

Medium

He will keep sustaining with his passive even if he doesn't go in for CS. If you try to all in him he will bite you a new one with his AD-stealing Q and the pillar of death. At least his ult won't steal much defense from you, but this is one match-up you lose if you let up with the harass.

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

You can zone him pretty well early on because he can only hit you with autos and his E while you can harass him from range and also use your skills. To trade, in the time he can land one auto on you and E, you can complete your whole combo. Post 6 is a little more tricky because he has his ult, but he should still have no way to farm against you.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy
4_64.pngThe only two things you need to know are:
1. Dodge his wild cards as much as possible and you will have enough health to trade him. If you do not get poked, he cannot kill you.
2. He can't always gold card, so if he locks in a non gold card and walks toward the creep line to use it on a creep, that is your chance to wreck him.

VS

Vladimir

Medium
8_64.pngThis guy is bad at all-ins, especially early on. If he wastes his empowered Q on a creep, all-in him. Even if you force him to pool, your entire combo will be ready before his pool CD is up again so you have a complete advantage over him. If you let him get to level 8-9 without some sort of lead, it will be tough to outsustain him.

VS

Warwick

Easy

A lot of champions have trouble with Warwick because of his sustain. However, in early lane phase the majority of his sustain comes from autoattacking. Level 1 and 2, any time he comes in to get CS go HAM on him because his trading is very weak early on. If you play aggressive enough on him he will not be able to come near every creep he wants to get CS and sustain. If you let him farmup enough, you will have trouble post-6.

VS

Wukong

Medium

This matchup is sometimes hard but winnable pre-6. Level 1 you have the advantage with ranged autos and double Q. Level 2 try and force a trade while you start in Mercury Hammer. Either you To the Skies! onto him first or he EQs onto you, but save your Thundering Blow for until he uses his E. After you Thundering Blow switch into Mercury Cannon and continue to drop damage onto him while his E is on C. When he gets his decoy, just save your Thundering Blow for the real one. You will win trades this way until he hits 6. Post 6 he gets his ult which can 100-0 you with ignite if you overextend too far out.

VS

Xerath

Medium
101_64.pngThis one is also a skill match-up. If he can't land a Q, you will have an easy time. Also, watch for where he W's. If he W's and he's not behind his creeps, or he is standing right next to the creeps, then use your ranged E Q and hit him. His poke is superior to yours because it goes through creeps, but you have the all-in advantage.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Early game you have a huge advantage, and you must deny his farm. Ranged auto him to pop his passive, and poke him as much as possible before he gets enough farm to scale. Do not let him push you in, or you will not be able to poke him. Be careful that his E may cause your melee Q to miss.

VS

Zed

Medium
238_64.pngYou can deny him from farming early. If he approaches the creeps, because he is melee, punish him. If he uses his clone on the creeps to last hit constantly, then call your jungler because his only escape is gone. However, once he hits around level 4/5 and he starts playing aggressively, he can trick you by making you think he's only harassing with his shadow and make you miss entire combos by switching positions. On top of that, he has has energy instead of mana so he can outsustain you before you get blue buff and tear.

VS

Zyra

Easy
143_64.pngNo escapes, if she misses snare, kill her. Handle her the same was as Lux, but she has no shield.

Introduction Back to Top

Guide Under Construction: Adding Top-Lane Matchups

This used to be a mid lane guide, and I kept all the mid-lane matchups in the guide for reference.

About Me

I wrote this guide for fun. I reached Plat 1 in the beginning of season 3 and peaked in the top 5 NA Jayce players on lolskill. I also reached Plat 1 in ranked 5s for season 4. Jayce does well against melee champions in the current top lane meta and is a niche pick in the mid lane meta, and I still believe he is a safe pick with very high snowball potential and relatively few weaknesses.

Pros
-Very strong mid-game
-Scales well into late game
-Quick tower killer with Hyper Charge, so opponents have to respond to your split push
-Strongest mid-game poke in the game which destroys squishy teams
-Acceleration gate helps the team re-position very quickly

Cons

-Positioning is difficult because any wrong judgment when jumping into Mercury Hammer will result in getting CCed and killed
-Somewhat predictable and lots of room to misplay against lower skill-cap champs
-No hard escape skill

Mechanics Back to Top

Aggression In laning phase

Abuse your Range Against Melee
Auto-attack and use skills against the other guy as much as you can early on while minimizing damage from creeps to force him to backup from your aggression or get pounded. Keep an eye on the HP of your minions so you know when he will want to come in for a last hit.

Utilizing Mercury Cannon Form

Shock Blast: When the enemy goes for a CS and positions near the creeps, you will have an easy time landing this. A trick you can do is when the wave resets is to walk either up or down into the fog and fire from there. By the time the opponent sees the Shock Blast, it will be traveling too fast to react to.
Note: As you get better at this, you should bring your mouse closer to you (which brings the Acceleration Gate closer to you but gives you a smaller radius to aim with) in order to allow the Shock Blast to fire as quickly as possible.

Hyper Charge: If the enemy is positioning behind the creeps but not close to them (and your Shock Blast cannot hit them) then auto attack and Hyper Charge when he/she goes for a creep kill.

Utilizing Mercury Hammer Form

To the Skies!: Sit near the melee creeps and last hit as you normally would, but when the opponent gets close to try and get a creep, To the Skies! onto him to force a trade. If you are not trying to kill but only lower his HP, then immediately auto-attack and then Thundering Blow to disengage and then Transform Mercury Cannon to followup with a Shock Blast+Acceleration Gate and 3 autos from Hyper Charge.

Early Game Back to Top

OP Level 1 and 2

You have a very strong level 1. If you start in ranged, you can auto-attack, Shock Blast, Transform: Mercury Hammer, To the Skies!, and auto-attack again to proc the bonus magic damage. The slow will allow you to get 2 or 3 more auto-attacks in. This can easily dish 300+ damage on the opponent, and if they are low enough, finish with 14.png. If the enemy has a weak early jungler, try to push a little to get to level 2 before your opponent. When you hit level 2, a full combo can 100-0 the opponent. Auto-attack,Shock Blast+Acceleration Gate, Transform: Mercury Hammer, To the Skies!, auto-attack and animation cancel until the slow wears off, ignite,Thundering Blow, Transform: Mercury Cannon, auto-attack.

Pay Attention to the Map
Know what your jungler is doing at all times  and look for cues of the enemy jungler and respond accordingly. Be expecting an early gank from the enemy jungler because your early game is so strong, and junglers usually start bottom side.

Mid Game Back to Top

Continue Playing Aggressively
Try to zone the enemy or land a kill while being careful for the enemy jungler. Alternatively, push the lane and pressure tower/roam. You can continue to farm your lane if your team needs map pressure, but you need to be able to use good judgment to determine when to roam. Even though you can take the enemy tower very quickly, it is sometimes more important to roam because the earlier you can snowball a lane the better. You can always come back and take the opponents tower after you have already helped someone else snowball.

Pushing
Because your W allows you to take towers quickly, and you have two AOE wave clears, you can take a tower very quickly after forcing a back. Use this to your advantage. Alternatively, you can push the wave to the enemy tower and auto-harass the enemy if he attempts to CS at his tower.

Sieging a Tower
Let your team know that you want to poke the carries as much as possible before engaging. First, you will need your team to push out the side lanes simultaneously to pressure them, and then tell them to group mid. Keep aiming infinite amounts of Shock Blast+Acceleration Gate at the enemy carries when you have Blue. When they are either forced to back or stay with low health, start attacking the turret.

Late Game Back to Top

Position Like an ADC
You will be a high priority and squishy target. Do not EVER dive the enemy carries, you will get stunned and get popped like a fly because you are squishy and the enemy will take any chance they get to catch you out of position. In team fights you will stay in Mercury Cannon and play like an ADC while keeping distance from enemy tanks until you can successfully pick one off in Mercury Hammer, or the ADC needs peel. Stay as far away as possible from champions like these while still attacking because they WILL put the hard CC on you if you get caught herp derping in melee range next to them
54_64.png5_64.png39_64.png24_64.png58_64.png80_64.png92_64.png77_64.png75_64.png72_64.png59_64.png62_64.png33_64.png

Attack the Same Target as Your ADC
While dishing out damage, your 3071_32.png will help the allied ADC melt enemy tanks. Also, do not forget to proc your Transform: Mercury Cannon. The armor shred added onto Black Cleaver is very helpful!

After the Enemy Tanks are Dead
After the enemy tanks are dead, you should be able to outplay most enemy carries. Shock Blast+Acceleration Gate+Hyper Charge should lower any carry enough for you to Transform: Mercury Hammer and To the Skies!+Lightning Field+Autos+Thundering Blow for the finish. It is crucial that you do not Transform: Mercury Hammer until the enemy carry has wasted his escape ability because you will be unable to re-close the gap between you and the carry.

Being a Team Player Back to Top

One of the least-emphasized aspects of winning in League of Legends is being a team player

Organize Your Team
YOUR ELO IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND NOBODY ELSE'S.
The last thing you want is to lose a team fight because your team was not fully grouped and/or people did not fulfill their roles. Because of this, decision-making needs to be concise but also smart. Thus, you need to call the shots the majority of the time and accept full responsibility for them. However, if you have not taken responsibility and earned the respect of your team because you have been calling them trash, nobody will listen to you.

Stay Calm
A team player will do what is best for the team and keep the biggest objective in mind: winning the game.

What does this mean?
No matter what happens, do not argue with your team. Always be the one to disband any conflict. If you want to win then get your team together. YOUR rating is YOUR responsibility, so take initiative to keep your team calm.

What Do I Do With All These Trolls and Grievers?
Many people complain that games being "unwinnable" because they were trolled. Mistakes are inevitable in League of Legends. Nobody ever has a perfect game. The majority of "trolls" and/or grievers start messing around in the game AFTER someone in the game decided to make a rude comment or talk trash to them after they made a mistake. How do you handle situations involving "trolls?" Arguing and throwing out the report threat is never the right way. You NEVER want to demoralize your own team. It seems unfair because you have to cater to the destructive influence on your team, but it is the price you must pay to win.

What's the objective? WINNING.
If someone makes a mistake, let them know that it's okay to make mistakes as long as they know what they did wrong and try not to do it again. Don't be a douche when you're pointing out someone's mistake either. It's very rare that someone will continue to grieve if you try to keep them in the game.

Take Responsibility
Putting  blame on other people often involves looking-down on the people you play with, and that's not a good mentality. You need to analyze your own game play and look for aspects you can improve. When something goes wrong, the first instinct is to blame someone else, but there is usually a way you could have handled the situation better, too. You will need to get rid of a "I'm better than my team" mentality and keep seeking for improvement. This will not only help you improve, but it will also help you become a much more pleasant teammate to work with.
Note: I'm not saying don't be confident, but just have a good amount of self-criticism to balance it.
