This spell is necessary for Jayce since he has no escapes besides his Cannon E acceleration.

12.png TELEPORT

Since you're playing on top, you want to be able to help your team quickly in tough situations. Your second option is to go with Ignite.

14.png IGNITE

I don't recommend using Ignite in place of Teleport since TP can save a teamfight BUT if you want more damage to squishy targets, go ahead and take it.

Some notes:

- Thunderlord's is currently the most useful mastery for Jayce as it is for many other champions. It provides a nice boost to your combo. The other option may be Fervor of Battle and Deathfire Touch, but I don't recommend it.

- Since the recent buffs, you may want go for the Double Edged Sword instead of Feast, but I still favor Feast because it provides sustain and that's what Jayce lacks early.

- The Secret Stash can be replaced with Assasin if you feel like you have to do that dmg but again, you have low early sustain so rather stick with cookies.

Jayce doesn't level up his R ability. That means his other abilities have 6 levels instead of 5 as other champs do.

In the LoLKing table, consider level 11 as the last upgrade for Q, level 13 for E and lvl 18 for W.

Always max your Q unless you're playing against an insane gap closer like Renekton or Irelia. In that situation, max E for the knockback.

One may argue that it's better to max W second. I definitely agree that this is a viable option however, since you are on toplane, you will likely face a tanky opponent and Jayce's maxed out hammer E does 20% of your opponent's max hp which can be a ton of dmg. Anyway, try playing both choices and find out which suits you best.

TIP: If you have a decent ping, try launching the cannon Q first and then use E to accelerate it. This will surprise the enemy but it can be a failure if your ping is too high. 

TIP: After you leap on your enemy with hammer Q, try to get in front of him and use your E to knock him away from his turret and make it an easy kill with the help of your jungle.

TIP: When an enemy places a ward in your range, you can destroy it with W before it becomes invisible.

TIP: Use your R as often as possible since it provides mobility, damage and penetration bonuses.

1055.png Doran's Blade: I recommend starting out with Doran's but feel free to take  2033.png if you're used to it.
3070.png Tear of the Goddess: This should be your first item after Doran's, Jayce runs out of mana pretty quickly.
1053.png Vampiric Scepter: Great sustain and is part of The Bloodthirster, which you are likely gonna build.


Core Items:


3042.png Muramana: The most common item on Jayce. Helps him solve mana issues.
3072.png The Bloodthirster: Gives Jayce lot of damage and protects him. Very useful.
3078.png Trinity Force: Next auto-attack deals additional 200% base AD after using an ability. 
3071.png The Black Cleaver: Strong item against armor. Works very well with his cannon W and passive.
3022.png Frozen Mallet: Useful for chasing down enemies with your cannon basic. Also has lot of HP.


Boots:


3111.png3047.png3158.png Mercury's Treads / Ninja Tabi / Ionian Boots  
Buy Mercury's if you are against an AP champ with lot of CC. (30% cc red.)
Buy Ninja Tabi if you stand against an AD champ whose damage is based on AA. (12% dmg red.)
Buy Ionian Boots if you feel like you don't need benefits of the previous two.

More viable items:


3156.png Maw of Malmortius: Good pick against an AP opponent. Build it right after Manamure.
3036.png/3033.png Great when the enemy has lot of BONUS armor.
3026.png Guardian Angel: If you are that carry.... Deal tons of damage, die, revive, repeat.
3053.png Sterak's Gage: Another shield that helps Jayce survive a fight. However, it can be replaced with something else. Works well with Trinity Force (adds 25% BASE AD)

If he uses his E on you, just knock him away with your hammer E. He shouldn't be able to hit you with his Q as well.

She can abuse her W to deny you... try to avoid this matchup.

When he tries to silence you, just use your hammer E and he's left to cry. Also, try to periodically autoattack him so he doesn't get regenerated by his passive.

Her ireliagatotsu.png Q allows her to close distance with you and in the late game your knockback becomes almost useless since she has low Q cooldown. Also, she outsustains you.

Easy

Once Jax leaps on you and tries to stun you, you can simply knock him away and dish your combo on him once his E is on cooldown.

Kayle

Medium

Although Kayle can hit pretty hard with her E, you can decimate her with your abilities early. She is surprisingly squishy. Once you finish your combo, knock her away and back off into safety and wait for cooldowns.

Malphite

Medium

Malphite is difficult since he can sustain lot of dmg thanks to his passives and his landslide.png E is very annoying since it lowers your dps.

Hard

Has a strong early game advantage but you can duel him somewhere after lvl 14 if ur a decent player.

If you don't allow her to get close to you, you should win this one.  Just play safe since she can deal lot of dmg when she stuns you.

Ryze is very annoying but can be defeated is you play decently. However, I would not recommend to pick Jayce against him.

Pros & Cons Back to Top

Pros:

+ Tons of Damage!!!

+ Good poke

+ 6 abilities to play with

+ Great tower destroyer

+ Ultra Long Range Snipe (Q JayceShockBlast.png&resize=32: + E JayceAccelerationGate.png&resize=32:) Great for sniping recalling inexperienced low-hp players.

Cons:

- Too squishy 

- Lack of escapes - can be ganked easily

- Almost none early sustain (besides Doran's and runes)

- Mana hungry

- Quite complex gameplay

[6.12] Lord Dominik's Regards and Mortal Reminder got +10 AD, Double Edged Sword buffed.

[6.13] Teleport channeling time increased (3.5s > 4.5s). Ignite might be used more often.

[6.17] Jayce buff... Hammer E mana cost decreased to 40 at all ranks, Hammer R has 40% AD scaling instead of 40% AP. That makes maxing E second more viable than before. Also, people will concentrate more on changing forms.
