Summoner Spells Back to Top

Always take Flash on Jayce- 4.png

Your secondary summoner in mid lane can be one of 4:

14.png - Ignite is the most commom. Ignite allows you to burst someone down in lane for that juicy solo kill and gives you lane threat as your opponent must respect the fact you have that little bit of extra true damage.

3.png - Exhaust is a very useful and efficient. Jayce has such a large DPS output that its a little greedy to take more with the ignite pick up. Exhaust is really useful in ensuring you win a 1v1, 2v2 and even in full blown team fights. Exhaust is also useful for surviving ganks as it can completely neutralise either the mid laner or the jungler.
1.png - Cleanse is the super safe pickup here. With mid lane being such a short lane, having the ability to  instantly negate CC is incredibly valuable. I tend to take Cleanse into CC heavy comps and triple or Quadruple AP threats (as they tend to have a lot of CC, ill go into it further later).
6.png - In the current meta (Patch 6.20), the mantra for mid lane is 'The Mid laner that Roams, is the Mid laner that wins'. Ghost allows you to roam to a sidelane, or into the jungle, at incredible speed and impact the sidelanes. In lane, Ghost allows you to chase down opponents, Run away from duels or ganks AND gives Jayce amazing amount of Move speed when combined with his R and and his shockgate (E). This has an honourable mention as it allows you to dodge skill shots with ease.

Masteries Back to Top

In the Ferocity tree; You want to take the highest DPS Masteries. You take sorcery over the Attack Speed Mastery as youll be utilising your spells over your Auto Attacks. Natural Talent over Lifesteal as you want Max damage and finally i take Bounty Hunter because Mid jayce is a carry role and i like to try and Snowball the game. Oppressor is a safer pick here.

In the Cunning Tree; i choose the pick for Mobility, assassination and penetration. The only flexible Mastery here, in my opinion is the Keystone. Thunderlords obviously gives you that nuke potential but i nearly always Take StormRaiders Surge. This is because in trades in lane, and indeed in teamfights, once you go in for a combo, you nearly always are trying to get back out of the fight with minimal damage taken. Having the sudden burst of move speed can get you right out of a fight and leave your opponent reeling from your sudden Hit 'n' Run combo.

jayceW.png      Max W second; This is your second source of damage and your mana sustain in hammer form

jayceE.png      Max E last; E only does damage in hammer form, i use it mostly for execution, knocking tanks away or                         simple displacement during combos. One point in E early on is enough, so that you can land your QE                             combo.

jayceR.png      Put a point into your R at 6 ,11 and 16. Same as all Ultimates.

LDR is fantastic into a tanky team

I usually go 1 of 2 builds.

!st Build - Standard Damage.

1055.png2003.png - Safe standard start. Gives you health, dmg and sustain. I nearly always buy this.

3142.png - Rush GB, Get this 99% of the time, only subbing it out for Hex drinker if youre struggling.

3155.png - Hex Drinker makes it almost impoossible for a AP champion to One Shot you in during the Early to Middle Stages of the game.(Can be bought first if needed, but get GB next)

3071.png - Black Cleaver gives you Tanky stats, mobility during fights and brings your CDR even higher, which is crucial.

3156.png - At this point, Upgrade your Hexdrinker into the Full Maw, half an item isn't gold efficient at this stage in the game.

3147.png - DuskBlade packs a serious punch when you have this much AD, plus the passive and Move Speed synergise with Jayce's playstyle.

3036.png   LDR is the Cherry on the Cake for the DPS God you know you are.
   |
3026.png   GA is the Safety Net that catches you when you fall.

You can decide if you prefer safety over Damage, it often comes down to each individual game.

Build 2: The Unkillable Hammer God

1055.png -> 3155.png ->3142.png - 3111.png ->3156.png -> 3139.png  -> 3071.png -> 3026.png/3072.png

Following this build, which i only ever go if im against 4 APS or crazy amounts of CC, You are pretty much unkillable via AP dmg. You must beware the ADC though!.

When taking Build 2, Always take cleanse. 1.png

How To Play The Lane Back to Top

Approach to the Lane:

There is a simple rule that i live by when playing Jayce Mid; If its an 'easy' match up i play very aggressive, if its a 'harder' match up, i farm. For example, if its an ahri or a tf im against then i just look for the oppertunity (Missed Charm or Tf using his Pick a card to farm) then i go in, hard trade, rinse and repeat until you kill them or achieve lane dominance. You can do this because Jayce has higher damage out put. Champs like Ahri or Tf rely on their CC to guarantee them a winning trade (Which is why cleanse is so useful). However in harder match ups, such as LB and Cassio, you cant trade as liberally. If you missplay the trade, you are either dead,  dying, or going back to base. Either way you lose the lane through giving kills or losing out on farm. This means that you have to sit tight, play defensive, get that farm, maybe look for roams and only trade when your lane opponent over steps to fight you.

Roam God or Tower Buster:

This is a decision which you have to decide for yourself. Once you start getting some items and rack up some meaningful AD you can either Roam to the sidelanes and exert map pressure or punish your lane and get the mid tower down for first tower gold.  Both these goals are achieved through hard pushing. Simple way of pushing is to land 1 auto on each melee, fire a cannon Q, brings down the melees in the wave. You can either wait on your cool downs to do the same to the Caster minions or, with higher risk, Switch to hammer form and Q W the casters. Once you have achieved the pushed lane you can Roam to the sidelanes, potentially utilising ghost, and force the enemy mid laner to stay and last hit the wave. Or you can harass your opponent and land damage on the tower.

I personally tend to go Tower Buster only when i am dominating the lane, E.G with a 3/4 kill margin. Being a Roam God is so effective on Jayce as you can land super long range damage with your EQ combo, not to mention the fact that you have insane mobility if you juggle your Shockgate and R MS correctly AND a potential ghost.

Mid Game and Team fights:

Playing Mid lane jayce is different to playing Jayce in the Top Lane. As a mid laner you become one of the carries for your team. This means you are being relied on to deliver the DPS in the teamfights. This then leads to one of the hardest parts about playing jayce; Once you go in, its very hard to get out (unless you are running Storm Raiders Surge). The Safest way to play jayce in the mid game and in team fighting is to stay in cannon form and deliver damage from range, changing to hammer form only to execute enemies or to run away. If you want to play it safe, then deliver long range punishment with the EQ to get the front line low, or chunk the back line out of the fights. Once the fight commences, use your Q and W output super high damage bursts onto the front line.

If you want to go Rambo mode and utilise all of Jayces DPS capacity, you have to master how much damage you can output and how much damage you can sustain without dying. If you misjudge your Damage and you go all in, in hammer form, and you dont have the damage you thought, then you are Dead as a Dead thing on National Dead Day. likewise if you think you can go Toe-To-Toe with someone and start beating the hell out of each other till one of you dies, but you dont know how much damage you can take, you are taking one hellova risk.

The solution to this is simple: Practice and Experiment. Learn your limits. You have to play and practice a lot before you can master the champion.
