Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

red_line.png

Flash and Heal: I recommend taking Flash and Heal in almost all Jhin games. This is because they are both the ideal Spells to keep him safe during the laning phase. Flash should be taken on almost all champions and I recommend it on Jhin too. Heal is a very good Summoner because it heals him and an ally a small bit of health back.

Flash and Barrier: Flash and Barrier are good together if your Support is a utility/peel support that shields and heals. Champions such as Lulu, Karma, Sona and Janna work well with Barrier. I wouldn’t recommend taking it with a Support who doesn’t heal or shield.

New Runes Back to Top

For Jhin I recommend taking Sorcery as the main Rune tree. This is because he gains so much from it and is by far the strongest. Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Arcane Comet is a very good Rune because it befits you during the laning phase and will allow you to deal more damage. Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 Manaflow Band is the best of the three and will benefit you through the laning phase and team fights. Celerity.png?width=32 Celerity is a good rune for him too because it gives you extra damage. Scorch.png?width=32 Scorch is the last Rune in this tree as it gives you bonus damage through burning the enemy. I like this on him too because you can abuse your abilities and deal extra damage to the enemies.

For the secondary tree, you have a lot of freedom. You can go either Resolve or Precision. I've decided to use Resolve as this example though because it gives you sustain. The first you should take will be Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin. This will give you armor which you need to protect you from enemy auto attacks.  The next rune is Second%20Wind.png?width=32 Second Wind. This Rune will allow you to survive for longer in team fights and during the laning phase.

Jhin’s Passive is Whisper

Jhin does not benefit from attack speed items. His attack speed cannot be improved except through scaling throughout the game.

Jhin can attack 4 times before he has to reload for 2.5 seconds. If he doesn’t auto attack or use an ability for 10 seconds he will automatically reload.

The fourth auto attack is guaranteed to be a crit dealing bonus damage to enemies hit. The 4th shot will also deal critical (reduced) damage to towers and objectives. This also grants him a brief bonus of movement speed when shot.

Jhin gains bonuses throughout the game.

Screenshot_1.png

Jhin’s Q is Dancing Grenade

Jhin launches a canister at a target dealing damage to them. The canister can bounce up to three additional times and does increased bounced damage to future enemies if it killed previous enemies.

Tips: Your Q will be your main source of poke during the laning phase. An example combo of using your Q would be: Auto attack (4th shot) + Q + W. In some cases, you should use your Q to farm and help push the wave. Be careful it will bounce and may ruin your CS at times. Your own judgement is needed when using your Q.

Screenshot_2.png

Jhin’s W is Deadly Flourish

Passive: CAUGHT OUT – enemies damaged by Jhin’s attacks or his allies are marked.

Active: Jhin fires a shot in a target direction dealing damage to the first enemy champion it hits. Accordingly, any minions or monsters in the way are dealt damage too. Damaging a Caught out champion briefly roots them

Tips: Try to aim your W on enemies that have been marked as this will root them. This is one way of layering CC and will allow you and your support to collapse on them. You can mark enemies with: abilities and auto attacks from you or an ally champion.

Screenshot_3.png

Jhin’s E is Captive Audience

Passive: Jhin summons a blooming Lotus Trap under every enemy champion he kills. Periodically Jhin stores a Lotus trap storing up to two at any time.

Active: Jhin places a trap in a location that lasts for 2 minutes. If an enemy walks over it they will be revealed for 4 seconds. Any enemies that spring the trap will be slowed for 35% for 2 seconds. When it detonates, all enemies caught inside will be dealt damage.

Tips: It is important to use your traps in bushes. They will grant a brief period of vision when using them. If you’re grouped, it may be smart to place some in the side lanes where the minions walk down. This will cause your side lines to push while you’re grouped as 5 and will give your team map pressure. You can place traps near jungle entrances or bushes to provide adequate vision and slow enemies.

Screenshot_4.png

Jhin’s Ultimate is Curtain Call

First Cast: Jhin channels for 10 seconds and can shoot up to four bullets at enemies with an increased range.

Second, Third, Fourth and Final Cast: Jhin fires a bullet in a target direction that stops and hits any enemies who are in its path. If it collides with an enemy champion, it will reveal them and slow them.

Curtain call’s final shot is a critical strike.

Tips: When using Jhin’s ultimate, you need to make sure to be in a safe place and not allow the enemies to collapse on you. While you’re using your ultimate you will be immobile so an enemy can easily kill you during this period. Jhin’s ultimate requires some judgement to accurately hit the enemies. So practise makes perfect. Try to layer your ultimate in conjunction with your allies’ abilities of an increased chance of killing the enemies.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Standard Jhin start.
Safe start. Take this if you're against a poke lane.
Good start if you want to spam abilities or are in an even lane.

Core Items

Infinity Edge should be your first core item
Second item should be Boots. Swifts are the best.
Third Item should be Rapid Fire Cannon
Fourth item should be Essence Reaver
Final items should be Statikk Shiv and Guardians Angel
    Example full build.

Situational Items

If the enemy has multiple Tanks. This item in general is really strong.
Pick this up if you're against a heavy AP enemy team.
    Other Possible Items.

I recommend taking either Dorans Blade, Shield or Ring as your starting items. Never take Cull. You should take the one that will benefit you the most through the laning phase and the one that will help you survive.

Your first major item should be Infinity Edge. This is a very good item as it will give you Attack Damage and Crit that will allow you to deal lots of damage to enemies. I recommend this as your first item every game. Your second item will be boots. Ideally you want to get Swiftness boots because they are the best on him. Do not get the attack speed ones. You could get Magic Resist boots if the enemy has heavy AP or CC. Your third and fourth items will be Essence Reaver and Rapid Fire Cannon. You can switch these two up and buy them in a different order if you wish. It depends on your playstyle but you should buy both.

Your final two items will be Statikk Shiv and Guardians Angel. Alternatively, you can pick up Lord Dominik’s if you’re against a tanky team. However, GA is a very good item as the passive will give you a second life.

You can build some other items on Jhin but remember, you need Crit items.

VS

Alistar

Hard

Jhin isn’t very good against Supports who can hard engage on him or that have CC. When playing against Alistar you want to make sure that he cannot engage on you at all. In this lane you want to play in a reasonable position and do not over extend at all because he can easily combo you. Beware of your positioning and keep an eye on his positioning as he can easily flash W Q you.

VS

Blitzcrank

Hard

Jhin isn’t very good against Supports who can hard engage on him or that have CC. When playing against Blitz, do not let him hook you. Stand behind minions and out of the range of his E. Try to play safe and not get hit by it. His silence can cancel your ultimate.

VS

Brand

Medium

This is going to be a hard matchup for Jhin because they have lots of damage. Try to avoid his abilities and not let him poke you. Make sure to play safe and do not be too far pushed up when he has his abilities up. Brand is quiet immobile so try to lock him down with your Supports CC and your W.

VS

Braum

Medium

Jhin isn’t very good against Supports who can hard engage on him or that have CC. When playing against him you should not let him hit you with his Q. Stand behind minions so he doesn’t hit his Q. Braums shield can block your W, Q and Ultimate.

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

Caitlyn has a huge range and can easily poke you down. Play in a safe position and do not over extend. Like stated, this matchup really relies on your Support. Try to not get caught out by her damage. Poke when possible.

VS

Draven

Hard

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

Draven is very strong in the early game and with a good support this lane is horrible for you. I would recommend playing safe and trying to poke him when he tries to catch an axe. You can use your skill shots to predict where he will be moving according to the drop zone of his axes. Poke him and let him get cocky. Do not get caught out by his overall damage.

VS

Janna

Easy

Jhin does very well against peel supports because he can beat them. Unlike most tank or engage supports. They do not have much kill potential on him. Make sure to farm well in these lanes and try to poke when possible. Janna’s Q and Ultimate can cancel your ultimate.

VS

Jinx

Easy

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

Jinx has a lot of poke damage with her Q’s. In this lane you should not over extend or get caught out. Make sure to not get poked down by her autos as well. Try to poke her when she is OOM or used a core ability. Do not over extend during this lane as Jinx can easily snowball her lead.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

You can easily beat a Kog in the early game because that is when he is at his weakest. Make sure to poke him when possible and not over extend. He can easily collapse on you with his W poke and slow from his E. In team fights he will melt your team so try to deny him farm in the early game.

VS

Lucian

Medium

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

This is a good lane for you as Lucian isn’t very strong anymore. This lane is good as you can poke him with your abilities. However, Lucian is good when trading because of his abilities. Do not over extend or get cocky because he can easily collapse and chase you with his E.

VS

Lulu

Easy

Jhin does very well against peel supports because he can beat them. Unlike most tank or engage supports. They do not have much kill potential on him. Make sure to farm well in these lanes and try to poke when possible. Lulu’s W and Ultimate can cancel your ultimate.

VS

Nautilus

Hard

Jhin isn’t very good against Supports who can hard engage on him or that have CC. When playing against Nautilus you want to not let him engage on you. So in this lane you want to play safe and not in the open. Nautilus’ Q hitbox is huge and can easily kill you when hit with. Do not stand in the open where he can easily hit you with it. At 6 stay out his ultimate range.

VS

Sona

Easy

Jhin does very well against peel supports because he can beat them. Unlike most tank or engage supports. They do not have much kill potential on him. Make sure to farm well in these lanes and try to poke when possible. Sona’s Ultimate can cancel your ultimate.

VS

Soraka

Easy

Jhin does very well against peel supports because he can beat them. Unlike most tank or engage supports. They do not have much kill potential on him. Make sure to farm well in these lanes and try to poke when possible. Soraka’s silence can cancel your ultimate. When she is 6 ping her level and tell your team that she has hers.

VS

Taric

Medium

Jhin isn’t very good against Supports who can hard engage on him or that have CC. When playing against a Taric. Be careful when laning against him because of his stun. In this lane you need to watch out for his E Flash combo. Try to play safe and dodge his E. Do not over extend in this matchup.

VS

Thresh

Hard

Jhin isn’t very good against Supports who can hard engage on him or that have CC. When playing against Thresh you need to not over extend or be in a position where he can hook you. Thresh is a very good champion with a skill shot. During the laning phase you need to stand behind minions and not let him hook you at all.

VS

Tristana

Medium

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

Tristana has a lot of all in potential especially pre 6. Do not let her poke you down with her E. If she uses it on you, then back off. When you have your fourth shot up use it on her. She will win the early game so you need to farm up as much as possible and try to deny her as much as possible. Aim to go even in this lane.

VS

Twitch

Medium

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

Twitch is frustrating to play against because of his kit and auto attacks. In this matchup, do not go for extended trades. Poke him with your abilities when possible and hit him with your 4th shot when it’s up. During team fights he will melt you so try to put him behind in lane by poking him and denying him farm.

VS

Varus

Easy

Please note that this lane should be easier with a good allied Support. A lot of Marksman matchups rely on the Support pick and that will make the lane harder or easier.

Varus is a weird laner to play against because he is strong and easy to play, but you go even. Try not to feed and let him attack you for free. Dodge his Q and do not let him get stacks on you. At level 6 beware of his all in potential and his ultimate. If you get caught by it then you will die. Poke him when possible and do not over extend in lane.

Champion Synergy Back to Top

Jhin has good Synergy with these champions

Sona, Blitzcrank, Leona, Nami, Morgana, Thresh, Brand, Braum, Blitzcrank, Alistar

37.png Sona is really good with Jhin because she can constantly shield her ADC and protect him. She also can layer CC with her kit.

53.png Blitzcrank is good with Jhin because he can layer CC with them. Also Blitzcrank is very obnoxious to play against like Jhin. These two go hand in land.

89.png Leona is good because she can protect and peel for her ADC. Jhin can easily layer CC with them as well. Leona likes to fight early like Jhin.

267.png Nami is good with Jhin because she has heals and shields as well as the possibility to layer CC. Nami is very good with him as she can peel and protect him.

25.png Morgana is good with Jhin because he can layer CC with her Q and Ultimate.

412.pngThresh is a very good support in general. When he lanes with a Jhin, this lane becomes very hard as it is a kill lane. Thresh can start fights and Jhin can follow up. This is a very strong lane.

63.png Brand is great with Jhin because of his early game damage. These two work well because they both deal lots of damage early.

201.png Braum is one of the best tank supports around because he has many different things in his kit that Jhin benefits from. Such as his poke abilities and his CC abilities. Braum is very strong at peeling for Jhin.

53.png Blitzcrank is a very good support because they both match each other. Blitzcrank can go for hooks and Jhin can follow up and layer CC.

12.png Alistar is another fine example of a well-rounded support. Alistar has lots of peel potential and you can easily combo your abilities together.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

Pros:

  1. He’s fun to play. Like many champions, he has his strengths and weaknesses but he’s always fun to play when you learn him.
  2. He has burst potential. Because of Jhins reload mechanics, your fourth deals lots of damage. He has good burst potential with his Q and fourth shot.
  3. Poke Potential. Jhin can easily poke enemies with his Q and 4th shot. This is where a big portion of his damage comes from.
  4. Strong lane presence and pressure. Jhin has lots of lane pressure with his abilities and potential combos. When Jhin is matched with a good Support, this makes the laner much easier and much more deadly.

Cons:

  1. Low mobility. Jhin is very immobile with no real escape abilities unlike most other ADC’s.
  2. Low attack Speed. Jhin doesn’t build much attack speed and doesn’t really benefit from it because of his 4 shot process. This means he doesn’t have the best kite ability either.
  3. Immobile while using his ultimate. Jhin’s ultimate- Curtain Call. This leaves him at a risk when using it because he can easily be caught. When using your ultimate make sure you are in a safe place to minimise the risk of dieing.
  4. Multiple Skill shots. Jhin’s W and ultimate are both skill shots. He has 5 possible shots to hit and is incredibly hard to hit them all.

Early Game Back to Top

In the early game you main job is to farm and deny as much as possible for the enemy. Ideally you will have a support who synergises well with you, however do not let that discourage you. Make sure to farm and poke when you can with your Q ability. Practise makes perfect when learning Jhin’s reload mechanic. In the early game make sure to not stand to far forward and get harassed by enemies. Be lucid with your starting items and pick up what you need to survive the early laning phase. If you’re against enemies who have lots of poke. You should start Dorans Shield. Try to be proactive in lane even if you’re countered.

Try to focus on farming as that will make you strong and allow you to deal lots of damage to the enemies.

Mid Game and Team Fighting Back to Top

Mid game is where Jhin shines. He is very good in the mid game once he has some items under his belt. In team fights, you need to be positioned in an area where you cannot easily be killed nor jumped on. It is important to stand far back from the enemies and not be the frontline. Try to poke them down with your Q and auto attacks before going in with your ultimate. Like any other marksman it is important to deal damage and focus whoever is close to you. Jhin is a little different because of his reload mechanic so when you’re reloading- try to fall back slightly.

Preparing your ultimate.

Your ultimate is very good however very risky. In team fights you do not want to use it unless you are trying to catch enemies or take down and finish them off. While I cannot give you tips to directly hit your ultimate- remember to estimate where the enemy is going to be when firing. Your ultimate lasts approximately 8 seconds so keep that in mind when using your load and make sure to fire appropriately. Also make sure that you will not be easily jumped on by the enemy or damaged (affected by crowd control) as this will cancel your ultimate.

If you’re trying to knock down an enemy who has dodging abilities like a dash or a jump- try to not fire until they’ve wasted it. After they have, you can go in with extra bullets. Try to line up your ultimate with your allies CC for easier and more accurate damage. Like life, practise makes perfect when playing Jhin.
