Summoner Spells Back to Top

Always take 4.png, and bring 7.png nearly always. You can bring 1.png instead of 7.png only if you REALLY need to get rid of hard cc. That's basically it for spells.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Ferocity:

Fury: Attack Speed is more beneficial than increased ability damage.

Feast: Feast will give you a better sustain in lane, but Dbl-Edg Sword is optional for more offense.

Vampirism: Natural Talent is pretty much useless, this provides more sustain against poke in lane.

Bounty Hunter: IMO either is good, but Bounty Hunter is better in the mid-late game.

Battering Blows: Pretty self-explanatory.

Fervor of Battle: This is much better than TLD, since Kalista is focused around long team fighting, not bursting squishies. Fervor will give far more damage output in a fight, since you can only activate TLD every 25 seconds or so. Fervor will stack quickly in a fight and give more DPS, TLD is only useful early game.

Cunning:

Savagery: Makes farming easier, since farming on Kalista is hard unless you use E.

Secret Stash: Assassin is useless in bot, Cookies help a lot early. Runic Affinity is OK if you get red buff, which is normally later in the game.

Merciless: More useful than mana regen, since you SHOULD be using your autos more than abilities.

Dangerous Game: That little bit of HP is extremely useful if you get low. Most people take dangerous game over the extra gold, except support and other minor exceptions. Can't see Bandit being very useful.

kalistaW.png First, will let your support activate the bonus auto damage. I take this before E when I have a support with ranged attacks. Take W last if your support isn't engaging, and you are primarily focused on farming. Don't underestimate the bonus damage in lane. You can also use Sentinel to scout the enemy jungle at the beginning of the game to check what buff the jungler might be doing.
DON'T FORGET that your support last hit CREEPS AND CHAMPIONS using your passive. When I play support for a Kalista, I always help the ADC by last hitting minions for them when they are marked. Occasionally you might find your support getting a kill for you(normally unknowingly) with your W passive.

kalistaE.png Second, this is arguably Kalista's most important ability. When you auto champions, you stack "spears" on them with each auto. Level this ability at level 1 or 2, as this is when you or the enemy may engage. Activating E rips the spears from them, dealing escalating damage proportional to the amount of spears stacked, as well as slowing them. Killing a minon or a champion with your E resets it, making this a useful last hitting tool. However I wouldn't try to get used to farming with E, you need to kill at least 2 minions with your E to refund the mana cost, otherwise you can find yourself oom very quickly. Make sure that your E kills a champion, otherwise you'll deal a lot less damage in a team fight. Only use your E without the reset if your being chased or if the enemy is out of your auto range.
A Cool Trick: You can use your E in the middle of an auto to proc the effect twice, but the second rip won't reset your E even if it kills.

kalistaQ.pngFinally, take Q third(or second). Your Q is a long range spear, providing poke in lane. If you enter a windup during your Q animation, you can hop a short distance. This is useful for hopping over small walls, chasing enemies, and kiting away from enemies. Be careful not to miss-click, otherwise you might jump into the enemy. A quick tip I learnt from Doublelift, level Q twice because the base damage increases from 10 to 70, which is pretty substantial.

kalistaR.pngLevel R whenever available, to increase it's availability(reducing cooldown). Using R effectively I found is usually learnt on your own. Only ult if you want your support to go in, or if you need to save your support.

KRAZY NEW KALISTA BUILD

If you play Kalista, you'd have probably realised old build is trash.

I was playing a game of Kalista in ranked, and I'm thinking to myself, "I do 0 damage" as I check my after game stats. That was when I had the true moment of magnum opus. After the tank nerfs, and realising Kalista's build had little damage, I came up with a new build, and for the games I've played with her, she does really well.

OUTDATED BELOW, ABOVE FOR NEW.

1055.pngis still the best starting item for ADCs, I wouldn't go 1083.png unless it was for fun. Upgrade 3340.png to 3363.pngASAP, since blue trinket is really good right now. This way you don't have to get close to brushes for vision.

Moving on to Kalista's core items, on first recall always go for at least a 1043.png, if you can't afford it just grab 1001.png and some 1042.png. If you snowball in lane, build into 3085.png, then go for either an 3031.pngor a3072.png. Otherwise, build 1043.png into 3153.png, then pick up 3085.png. At least build 3153.png3085.png or 3085.png3031.png/3072.png before getting any other items(excluding 3006.png, build before these).

In short;

Standard: 1055.png->1001.png1043.png->3153.png->3006.png3085.png3363.png->3072.png

Snowballing:1055.png->1001.png1043.png->3085.png->3006.png->3031.png3363.pngor3072.png3363.png

After your core items, build 3036.pngor3033.png, unless they're dumb, and don't get armor. Follow up with situational items. Here is quick explanation on each situational item if you're not sure.

3022.png:Decent AD + Kiting Juggernauts(Garen, Darius, etc) + 650 HP to survive longer.

3026.png:Magic Resist + Armor, get if everyone focuses you.

3053.png:Decent AD + Survive assassins aka burst(Talon, Zed, Yasuo, Leblanc, Ekko, etc)

3139.png:Strong AD + Remove Debuffs and Hard CC(Fizz Ult, Zed Mark, Taunts + Slows, Stuns, Snares)

3156.png:Good AD + Survive AP Burst(Ekko, Leblanc, Akali, Nidalee, Fizz + basically any fed mage)

I basically never get 3087.png anymore, ONLY get if you're not team fighting(2v2s, 1v1s, pick offs)

VS

Ashe

Hard

Ashe has alot of crowd control and burst in her kit, I wouldn't try to start a fight with her in lane, unless your support catches her(pull, hook, any displacement). Her asheR.png is deadly though, and you probably can't dodge it with your passive unless your pretty good, since it has a pretty dumb hitbox. Be prepared to flash her ult. Otherwise, just stick to her and Rend for the kill.

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

Caitlyn make laning a bitch for you. Be careful of her traps, and try to dodge her Q with your passive. Carefully farm until mid game, then you should be fine as long as you have a decent front line.

VS

Corki

Medium

Corki shouldn't be a problem, as long as you know how to dodge his abilities. He abilities deal the most of his damage, as he has no auto steroids or buffs. Just back off when he has package, and don't get hit by the rockets.

VS

Draven

Medium

As long as you have your support, you should be able to defeat him as long as you avoid the enemy support's CC.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

You will give Ezreal a very hard time landing his skillshots, which are his main damage. It's very easy to stick to Ezreal with your passive, even when he E's away. Ezreal is an easy match up as long as you don't let him land free poke, or get caught by an enemy stun or snare.

VS

Graves

Easy

After the nerfs to Graves Q, its harder for him to burst you, as long as you keep your distance this is an easy match up.

VS

Jhin

Medium

After Jhin got buffed, I'm moving him up to a medium difficulty. Try to engage just after he uses his 4th shot, as he can't auto. Avoid getting caught by jhinW.png, and respect Jhin's burst, and this is an otherwise easy matchup.

VS

Jinx

Medium

In this match up, to win the fight, you have to be the first to engage. Don't get snared by her traps, and kill her before she stacks her attack speed(Q).

VS

Kalista

Medium

For Kalista vs Kalista, use your kalistaE.png minion combo to outpoke the enemy adc. If you can beat them to level 6, all in and it should be a free kill.

VS

Kog'Maw

Medium

He should be very easy to kill early, and this should be your priority. He doesn't have any escapes, so kite him until he dies. When he gets his power spike(guinsoo's) just avoid fighting him on your own, try to get your team to hard CC him before he shreds everyone.

VS

Lucian

Hard

Lucian is bursty, the opposite of you. He is very sticky with his E and his passive, I wouldn't fight him unless you were fed. Play safe in lane.

VS

Miss Fortune

Hard

Miss fortune is a really annoying match up in general, play passive in lane and try to avoid getting hit by the Q after it hits a minion. Her slow makes it very hard for you to kite. She has a strong attack speed steroid as well, and will probably just shred you. Try to cancel her ult using Fate's Call in team fights.

VS

Quinn

Medium

I mostly see Quinn top lane nowadays, so I'd just be especially careful of her blind, you won't be able to kite if she lands it. Try not to get into a 1v1 though if she is in ult form.

VS

Sivir

Easy

Sivir is a pretty easy matchup, as long as you have a support who knows how to engage. Her E won't do anything unless you time your Rend badly. Stick to her, try to avoid her Q, and she'll be toast.

VS

Tristana

Hard

Tristana will be a hard match up, unless you manage to win lane. She has strong burst, as well as long range and a reliable escape. In a 1v1 if she places her charge on you, she'll burst you with her attack speed steroid and ult. You should have the upper hand when she uses her abilities though, as they are all have long cooldowns. Avoid fighting and play safe in lane.

VS

Twitch

Medium

I can't say too much about this matchup, I never find myself versing a Twitch. Just be careful of his level 6 powerspike, and follow up on your support whenever you can, just be careful if they have an aggressive support.

VS

Urgot

Medium

What are you going to do honestly your fucked mate. TBH just don't fight him, he isn't even an ADC to be truthful. He falls off anyway unless he gets fed, so just farm in lane unless your support catches him. What are the odds of versing Urgot anyway, I wouldn't even have thought of this matchup until this guide.

VS

Varus

Medium

Essentially a skill matchup, if he can land his skillshots on you, he'll deal a lot of damage. He doesn't have any escapes, so follow up on your support whenever possible.

VS

Vayne

Medium

I'd say this matchup could go either way. The better support will normally win the lane for their adc. Normally late game though, she will destroy you, so be careful. Try to dominate lane, as Vayne has a weak early game.

Information on me Back to Top

I currently have ~100k mastery points on Kalista, and she is one of my favourite champions in League. I think she has a lot of outplay potential, and that's why I picked her up shortly after she was released. I never enjoyed ADC until I actually got decent at Kalista. Since then, I have increased my marksman pool, and enjoy playing ADC, as well as mid and support. Right now I'm silver, aiming for gold by the end of season 6. I play on oce only, you can add me if you want to talk. This is my first guide, so comment if you have any suggestions. Thanks for reading this(unless you skipped to the bottom fuck you).
