Summoner Spells Back to Top

For most ADCs you will be taking 7.png (Heal) and 4.png (Flash).
- Think of this as your standard go to summoner spell set up.

In some certain situations it might be favorable for you to take 1.png (Cleanse) and 4.png (Flash).
- This is your very situational summoner spells.
- Usually I do NOT take these ever.
- Take these summoner spells if you're going against a lot of CC (4 Stuns/Slows/Snares +)

Masteries Back to Top

These are the masteries that I personally like to take on Kalista and actually most ADCs!

Bounty Hunter vs Oppressor
- So personally I like to take Bounty Hunter on ADCs UNLESS you have a support that brings decent CC then I would take oppressor for that easy early game damage pressure.

18-0-12
This is an optional path for Kalista if:
A.) The enemy has a high damage dealers
B.) Have a high damage bot lane
C.) You can take this rune set for lower summoner spells if you feel the need to have your flash up faster.

LEVEL ONE START
kalistaW.png vs kalistaE.png

kalistaW.png

Start your W if you are:
A.) Have a ranged support.
B.) You want to start W now if you are starting a camp due to the extra attack speed on the camp.
C.) Scared of an invade.

kalistaE.png

Start your E if you are:
A.) Have a melee support
B.) You can also start this if you want to start a camp.

Try to all in at Levels 2, 5, and 6!
Levels 2  is when you get Rend making killing in lane easier.
Level 5 is when you get 3 levels into Rend making it a lot easier to all in.
Level 6 is where you get your ult, allowing you to knock up the enemy bot lane and all in accordingly.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This is your always, go to start.
MAKE SURE TO USE THIS ON YOUR SUPPORT
START LONG SWORD THREE POINT IF YOU FEEL YOUR LANE WILL BE HARD OR VERY ABUSIVE, THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO SUSTAIN AND PURCHASE YOUR VAMP SCEPTER FASTER!

Core Items

Go Runaans first! Runaans makes your laning phase a lot easier, and much more easy and simpler. You can get a lot of rend stacks on the minion wave, and this way here your team doesn't have to wait for this spike after BOTRK. Always go BOTRK and Runaans no mater what!
Get this first ONLY if you are getting poked out. Always go BOTRK and Runaans no mater what!

Situational Items

Blood Thirster: Get blood thirster if you can't survive due to their constant damage. Maw of Malmortius: Get this if they have insane AP damage! Steraks Gage: Get Steraks in situations where they have high AD burst!
I don't personally get these items very often on Kalista, but if you feel as they have too much armor for you to do anything I would definitely get these items!
Don't usually get this, but it is possible if the enemy team has an extreme amount of duelists.
Don't usually get this, but I would if I don't want to throw away the tankiness of steraks or bt but I need the armor pen!

Core Standard:

3085.png3153.png3072.png3156.png3036.png3009.png
This is how I would usually build Kalista with no influence of AD Burst or Heavy AP.

vs. Heavy heal/Sustain
3085.png3153.png3123.png->3072.png3033.png3156.png3009.png
This is how I would usually build Kalista with no influence of AD Burst or Heavy AP.

Heavy AP:
3085.png3153.png3156.png3072.png3026.png3009.png

Rushing Maw after your Runaans will allow you to survive their AP burst, also since of it's insanely good passive you will have some more life steal.
If you think it's more AP BURST instead of CONSISTENT go BLOOD THIRSTER!

High CC/Poke:
3153.png3085.png3139.png3072.png3053.png3009.png

This will give you easy sustain during laning phase, BUT keep in mind your team fight will be weaker till you get Runaans.

This will allow you to freely move around during team fights removing CC and giving you a move speed buff.

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

This match up is a litte bit harder due to the fact that she can out range you.

650 (Caitlyn) vs 550 (Kalista)

- You can easily dodge her caitlynpiltoverpeacemaker.png
- Once you guys hit 6 you should be able to all in and win with kalistaR.png
- Out side of laning phase, if you can close the gap with red buff or BOTRK 1v1's should be easy.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

This is one of the easiest match up for Kalista.

- Easy dodging of his main skills shots ezrealmysticshot.pngezrealessenceflux.pngezrealtrueshotbarrage.png

VS

Jhin

Hard

Interestingly a decently hard match up for Kalista.

The trade back and forth in this match up is pretty lopsided and is heavily in Jhin's favor.
This is true due to the fact of his 4th auto being so good.
He can auto crit you and get out with movement speed and you will have to chase to catch up.
Even though you can all in at 6 you must take into account his support, and he most likely might even have a lead at this point due to his superior laning.

- Try to all in when he is reloading
- Dodge his jhinW.png so you do not get snared.
- All ins will we really due to him being immobile so when you're since punish using kalistaR.png

VS

Jinx

Easy

This match up is a litte bit harder due to the fact that she can out range you.

600-700 (Caitlyn) vs 550 (Kalista)

- You can easily dodge her jinxW.png
- Very immobile with no escape.
- Once you guys hit 6 you should be able to all in and win with kalistaR.png
- Out side of laning phase, if you can close the gap with red buff or BOTRK 1v1's should be easy.

VS

Lucian

Medium

This is one of the hardest lanes for Kalista due to it being a very skill based match up.

Lucian has really nice consistent damage, along side with high burst, and doesn't rely on over time fights like Kalista does and stacking her kalistaE.png.
- Dodge his culling
- Dodge his q
- Watch out for his all in windows (usually when his cooldowns are up)
- 1v1ing will be hard as well.

VS

Vayne

Medium

This is one of Kalista's hardest match ups so far.

You pretty much you win, but once you are in a 1v1 situation be careful.
- She can easily 1v1 you due to her going invisible and therefor you cannot stack your rend.

- Try to always keep a pink on you.

- Poke hard and early

- Watch out for her all in potential once 6 and BOTRK

Top 5 Supports w/ Kalista Back to Top

40.png

Janna
Janna works very well with Kalista due to her kit.
Her long range allows for the quick ability to proc kalistaW.png for easy trading in lane.
Janna's disruption is insane and allows Kalista to free hit.
Also, her shield compensates for Kalista low damage build.

412.png

Thresh
Thresh brings a lot to the table for Kalista to work.
He is a tank so using kalistaR.png isn't too punishing.
He brings a lot of CC, allowing Kalista to get rend stacks fairly easy.

53.png

Blitzcrank
Blitz is for the gimmicky combo known as "Balista"
How does this work?
Ult Blitzcrank when he lands a hook, bring the target towards you!
Also, Blitzcrank can easily proc your W making for easy kills at level 2!

201.png

Braum
Braum brings insane follow up!
Even if it's Braum ult into your ult, or vise versa!
His passive also is great allowing you to stack your rend stacks fairly easy!

16.png

Soraka
It's Soraka.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Tips and Tricks:

- Stack your kalistaE.png into a minion and use your kalistaQ.png to kill the minion transferring the Q stacks onto whomever the Q hits!

- When going in for some trades, try to keep a kalistaE.png stack on a minion, so you're able to rend the enemy while keeping it off cool down just encase they decide to re-engage!

- Use your kalistaW.png  to keep vision of your jungle! Some people say it's good to put in the river, but unless you physically leave lane to start the ghoul int the lane they will be easily killed, so it's much easier for you to scout your jungle with him!

- If you use your Sentinel kalistaW.png on the dragon pit, it will get stuck bouncing back between the dragon and the wall kinda keeping a perm ward!

Early Game Back to Top

Kalista's early game is fairly weak, but does have some positives!

Level 1-5:
- Try to punish the enemy ADC or Support for stepping up!
- Try to consistenly proc your W on whomever your support attacks, but do not step up too far for it! Don't rush it!
- Be careful of ganks and help ward for your support!
- DON'T DIE AND SCALE !

Level 6:
- Level is a huge spike for Kalista in the 2v2 lane due to the utility it can bring.
- Do some quick calculations and look at their enemy laner and see if you can win the rushed 2v2.
- Do you have more items? Are your summoners up? Are theirs? Where's the jungler? Who's jungler is closer? Where's the mid laner?
- If you think you can win the 2v2 just go for it and shoot!

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game is where Kalista Shines (Also late game)

I'd recommend to start grouping for major fights once you have Runaans!

Teamfights:
- Try to stay clear from the enemy's CC and don't get into melee range of their frontline!
- Stack rend as much as you can!
- Rend whenever you think it will kill!
- If you have an opening to kill their back line, go!

Dragon:
- You're smite is higher than your jungler so smite for him! It secures dragon's fairly easy!
- Keep in mind and let your jungler know, you can even combo smite to make it even harder for them to steal.
- You can smite Dragon around 600-800 HP if you're there from the beginning if not let the jungler smite.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game is a great place for Kalista to shine in major team fights!

Teamfights:
- Make sure to ult your support!
- Try to stay clear from the enemy's CC and don't get into melee range of their frontline!
- Stack rend as much as you can!
- Rend whenever you think it will kill!
- If you have an opening to kill their back line, go!

Baron:
- You're smite is higher than your jungler so smite for him! It secures dragon's fairly easy!
- In this situation I would smite, instead of the jungler and you combined for less room for error. You can rend baron around 1,100 HP if you are there from the beginning! If not, let the jungler smite.
