Summoner Spells Back to Top

506.png

When should I take Barrier? 21.png

A: Flash+Barrier is something that we've seen being used very frequently by the pro players lately. They put this strategy to use, in order to give the ADC more tools to keep himself alive (It is more used for hyper carries eg. Kog'Maw, Jinx, Xayah, Tristana). Your support must have Heal for you to take Barrier and to take the most out of it in teamfights or trading hits in the botlane.

179.png

What about Cleanse?

A: Usually people use Cleanse when they play against supports with a  lot of cc (e.g. 89.png). In most cases, your partner will also take heal. Personally, I'm not a fan of this summoner, but the truth is that, it is very useful and can decide teamfights but your timing on using it must be on point.

New Runes Back to Top

506.png
Those are the runes/masteries I'm using right now, after a lot of testing, I found out that this is the path that allows you to the most damage and finish games early.

179.png

Why Precision as main path?

179.png

  1. From my previous testing, so far I found that Precision gives me the tools to take the most advantage, at least as 429.png. I'm talking about, more attack speed and damage, and that's what we're looking for.

  2. Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=64 is definitely the best choice to dominate your lane and win games fast. 429.png, when compared to some other ADC's she loses some power later in the game, and this rune will help to keep those games shorter. Lethal%20Tempo.png?width=32 is also great, and I was using it so far, but I found out, that you can take so much more from Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32, it'll allow you to get fed earlier and stomp your enemies. Fleet%20Footwork.png?width=32 is just not ideal for you, you want to dominate your lane and that rune only provides a little sustain, when compared to the other 2, it's definitely not a choice for 429.png.

  3. Triumph.png?width=64 is the way to go, it will keep you alive during those hard fights, one of the best runes! Overheal.png?width=32 isn't bad and it'll give you a pretty decent shield that'll tank some hits, but still, not as good as Triumph.png?width=32Presence%20of%20Mind.png?width=32 wasn't even considered, mana isn't something you need.

  4. Legend%20Alacrity.png?width=64 was my choice, nothing works better than attack speed for  429.png. Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 gives Tenacity, something that you don't benefit that much and Legend%20Bloodline.png?width=32 gives extra lifesteal, seems like a good deal, but I truly believe that the attack speed will give you much more benefits, I mean spears.

  5. Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=64 is the way to go, it gives you so much power on picking those early kills on wounded champions, even if you play vs hard tanks, you can still take this one, as it might get you fed early. Cut%20Down.png?width=32 can be a good choice vs really hard tanks. Last%20Stand.png?width=32 just doesn't feel right for me, it can work though, it'll surprise your enemies when you're low health, but I believe it'll work better for 23.png.

    179.png

    Why Domination as secondary path?

    179.png
  1. This path will allow you do deal even more damage when in comparison to the others, obviously more testing will be needed as the other rune paths offer great tools to work with. But, so far I found Domination to be the most useful.

  2. Sudden%20Impact.png?width=64 will trigger every time you use your passive (AA+move), your damage will be insane, take this rune for sure! cheap%20shot1.png?width=32 can also be effective as you can slow with kalistaexpungewrapper.png and keep going, but, just not as effective as Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32Taste%20of%20Blood.png?width=32 wasn't considered at all, as we're looking for more damage and lane domination.

  3. Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=64 is a very good choice, it'll give you the extra AD early on, and allow you to snowball even more. Ghost%20Poro.png?width=32 is quite nice to give you some vision when you lack wards, definitely not a bad choice overall. Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 only works when you take down an enemy ward, placing a visible ward after lasting for 30 seconds from level 1-4, 36-120 seconds at levels 5-18

Passive.jpg
  • This is what makes Kalista so different and enjoyable to play.
  • Whenever she attacks an enemy she lunges a short distance when you hit a movement command.

    Q.jpg

  • Most commonly used to poke on lane and also to finish off wounded opponents.

  • It stacks one spear for Rend.

  • If your support hits an enemy champion when you have skilled W already, Pierce will trigger W's passive, if you hit the same enemy as your support.

    W.jpg

  • Allows you to keep vision on the map.

  • A lot of bonus damage if you play with a certain degree of synergy with your support. By both hitting the same enemy champion, you'll deal bonus damage. Also, it is very useful for getting Relic Shield's stacks.

    E.jpg

  • This is Kalista's main source of damage, and that's also why we usually rush attack speed items. The more spears you stack, the more damage you'll deal.

  • As you get used to this, you'll be able to farm perfectly and execute your enemies with ridiculously perfect timing, allowing you to get all the cooldown resets necessary to carry out a game.

    R.jpg

  • One the best escapes in game. If you keep your focus, your support can't die if he stays close enough to you.

  • Can be used as an engaging ability, although, make sure you can kill someone fast.

  • If the enemy team engages on you, make sure to cast this ability and let your support knock them up. This will allow you to move freely, stacking more spears and doing more damage.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

If you feel like you have the advantage and level 2 potential, just take doran blade. If it's gonna be a hard lane and with not so much sustain I recommend taking the shield for better trades.

Core Items

Same story as the doran's, but in these case depends also if you're against something like Caitlyn and if the enemy team has a physical damage jungler for example. In this case, Tabi's can be really helpful
Those items are Kalista's core items and means you're more than ready to fight.
I usually go for those, but it's already pretty situational. Whenever the other team has some CC that can stop you, I would always go for QSS, if you feel like they don't really do have the tools to stop you, go for the Cannon.
Final build should look something like this.

Situational Items

Those items are always good, they depend a lot on your opponents, if you're playing vs a Zed, you mat get GA, if vs a Syndra you should go for Malmortius.
506.png
As you know already, Kalista is an extremely mobile ADC. And the more attack speed she has the more mobility she gets. That's why Kalista's build is all around attack speed, it allows you to deal an extreme amount of damage while being super hard to catch, that insane damage is due to her ability Rend. kalistaexpungewrapper.png

179.png

What do you usually go for early on?

A: Well, I usually gor for 1055.png or 1054.png start like I explained above and then depending on your opponents and on the game itself you need to start adapting. Let's say hypothetically I base with 1k gold, I'll most likely buy 2x 1042.png  + 1001.png + 2055.png , probably something very similar to that. Sometimes if I have the money I build 3006.png straight away! (Kalistas's jumps scale with boot tier.) The most important here is get some attack speed, boots whenever possible, some pots or even 2031.png, but never forget the control ward 2055.png, whenever you get extra 75g get this little fella. It'll help you maintain control of your lane and allow ganks that can win you the game. If you're having sustain problems, just rush 1053.png, it'll make your life easier. I usually do that when playing vs hard match-ups. Your build should look something similar to that mid game 3153.png3006.png3085.png
Tip: While building
3153.png, always go for 1043.png before 3144.png, it helps you so much more.

VS

Alistar

Medium

Alistar as you may know, has a very strong CC. If he can hit a Q+W combo on you, you'll be as good as dead. To play against this champion you need to have a really good synergy with your support, let's suppose you get hit by his combo. If you have a Lulu supporting you, she has to use Polymorph on the enemy ADC. So, I would say the key is to be aware on what your support can do in case you get hit. Best advice I can give, in case you don't want to rely much on your support and outplay the enemies, is to have an amazing reflexes and be able to flash when Alistar W's, that can be key for some kills on botlane, but it's flash dependant. If you still don't have that confidence, and if your support is not much help, don't be in range of Alistar's combo and farm under turret, Kalista is really good on that. Don't forget to stack some spears on Alistar whenever he goes for the minions with 3302.png

VS

Annie

Medium

This isn't an usual support anymore, but if you find one, just try to push the lane early on and get ahead on levels. Beware whenever she has the stun ready. And at level 6, respect her damage even if you're ahead, she can destroy you easily. At 6, if she tries to burst your squishy support, be fast and press R, you can change the fight there and kill them for sure and avoid any deaths.

VS

Ashe

Easy

As long as you can dodge her W, she has no chance. But be careful with the poke, what can be an easy matchup can be turned in something quite hard if played badly.

VS

Bard

Easy

This one can be quite easy, most bard try to poke you early but if you answer properly with some spears he's really easy to kill. But, beware, respect his damage! Try to dodge his Q and go full aggressive on him your your fellow support.

VS

Blitzcrank

Medium

Blitzcrank will always be painful to play against, with Kalista it becomes a little easier due to extreme mobility, but sometimes he can still catch you. Just try to stay behind your cs and if you're pushing, don't try to overextend and hit the tower more than you should, he can rush on you and turn the lane into his favor. In case you're being pushed under your turret, stay behind your support in case he's tanky, if not you must rely on your dodging skills.

VS

Brand

Easy

I personally hate this one, he's not hard though! You just need to be very focused and dodge his skills early on. If you're able to do that, you can go full aggressive level 2 and kill him, he has no tools against you if he fails W. His damage is insane, if he hits W, don't try anything, because if he lands Q, you're pretty much dead.

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

Caitlyn is just boring to play against, the key in the matchup is to dodge her E-Q combo and to not fall in her traps. I would take 1054.png vs her. Unless she has a very passive lane and you have some aggressive.

VS

Draven

Hard

If you face Draven head to head you lose, he has more damage than you, you have to accept it. Try to play with your support in order to proc W's passive and try to harass him first before picking a fight.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

Dodge his Q's and he has 0% chance against you.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

I haven't seen any Fiddle supports lately, but they do exist and they are a pain. Try to harass him early, level 1-2. It might be perfect to kill him around those levels. Stack some spears on a minion and hit him, use your E, it'll slow him and go ahead. Usually Fiddle skills E first, it's annoying, but if you aren't close to your minions it won't do much, just a little silence, but you'll sure kill him early. Key against this champion after he hits 6 is vision. Keep your vision and he won't be a threat. Be sure to build 3140.png, it's a must.

VS

Janna

Easy

Janna is one of the best supports in this game. Trick is to avoid any trades whenever she shields her ADC. If she wastes shield don't be afraid and damage them. They'll lack sustain and you'll be likely to win those trades, and consequently the lane. If you have an aggressive support go for a level 2 kill on her.

VS

Jhin

Easy

This one is easy, just wait for him to reload and harass him as much as you can.

VS

Jinx

Easy

Easy one, she starts to be quite annoying with Q early on, but if you go on her very aggressive, she doesn't stand a chance.

VS

Karma

Easy

Karma has an extreme poke, you'll have to try and dodge her Q, if they have an aggressive lane, I recommend going 1054.png first as it'll allow you to survive early. But, in case you lane with a very aggressive support like 53.png12.png412.png go for 1055.png and try an early kill.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

This one is very tricky, he can be easy early on, just wait for his W to be on cooldown and go full on him. Try to poke him with Q and E combo.

VS

Lucian

Easy

He deals a good amount of damage, when you dodge his Q, you just jump in and punish him.

VS

Lulu

Easy

One of the most picked supports nowadays, she's really annoying early on with poke, but the key here is play very aggressive, get level 2 first and go for the kill. She's extremely squishy and will die for you easily. It's best if you lane with an aggressive support.

VS

Miss Fortune

Easy

As long as you can dodge her Q, try to play next tot he minions instead of behind, so you can avoid that extreme  Q damage. Without that she's no match.

VS

Morgana

Easy

It's easy to dodge her Q, she has nothing to stop you, you should win this one easily. It always depends on the other adc also, but has a support, 25.png has no tools to stop you. The key is dodging her Q and as 429.png that shouldn't be so hard.

VS

Nami

Easy

I personally hate this one. Her bubble is so annoying but also easily countered, as you as you're focused and waiting for her Q, you should be fine. Beware of her poke, she deals a decent amount of damage. It's best to play aggressive against her, she's also very squishy.

VS

Rakan

Easy

He's a great support with a lot of tools, but early on he depends a lot if he hits W or not and you should be able to dodge it and then punish him. If he comes recklessly to you, stay confident and just side step, he has no chance.

VS

Sivir

Easy

Never trigger your E before she wastes her's, she'll do it, trust me.

VS

Tahm Kench

Easy

He's not hard to play against in lane, just annoying, he can save the adc so many times. You'll be so done with him. Although, you'll probably be able to stack a decent amount of spears on him whenever he tries to land a Q or hit a minion. Just beware of his Q, it deals a decent amount of damage, if you dodge hit, show him 429.png's punishment.

VS

Thresh

Easy

He's a very complete support but to be aggressive he relies on his threshq.png or threshe.png if close range. You should be able to dodge his Q, and whenever he uses it, stack some spears while his threshq.png is on cooldown. Don't be afraid to go aggressive against him whenever he fails.

VS

Tristana

Medium

This one is tricky, because whenever you try to trade she E's you. Try to fake a tarde so she can use E and when it explodes you go in again. It's a short time, bt it'll be enough for you to punish her.

VS

Twitch

Easy

You can harass him easily and then finish him off. Just don't take too much trades, his damage is insane.

VS

Varus

Easy

I haven't had nay problems against Varus, but when he hits 6, you gotta be careful. So much killing potential. Before 6, you can try and kill him.

VS

Vayne

Easy

One of the easiest, she has no tools to deal with you in lane. Unless her support is very good, she has no chance. But, remember that after 6, if you just farm in lane and you're kinda even, she might outdamage you!

VS

Vel'Koz

Easy

He relies exclusively on skillshots, if he fails he's a dead man. He's very squishy, it's always the same logic, if he fails skillshots you need to punish him and play aggressive. The best against him are very aggressive support like 53.png412.png89.png.

VS

Xayah

Medium

I just hate playing against her, she deals insane damage and has a snare. You can trade with her, just be very careful on where the feathers are.

Supports Synergies Back to Top

179.png

God Tier

12.png412.png
179.png
  • 12.png  provides so much kill pressure in lane, he also has a great ability on keeping you safe. You can either play aggressive or more passive, he works well on both playstyles, you also get some sustain due to his passive alistarpassive.png. Later in the game, he's a great frontline, very hard to kill, with your  kalistarx.png, it'll be very hard for them to reach you.

  • 412.png is known for being the best support for 429.png, he just has so many tools, he can go very aggressive and also keep you safe. He procs your kalistaw.png, which makes your damage insane early on. The combos with your kalistarx.png and 412.png's  threshw.png are just crazy, and it'll be very hard for the enemy to kill with you with a gank after 6. In short, he's just the most complete support for 412.png.

179.png

Tier 1

1.png89.png201.png223.png
179.png
  • 1.png might come as a surprise for you, but the main reason I love this support on soloQ is that, with 429.png's kalistarx.png and 1.png's combo, you can easily kill your enemies in lane and also be very useful in teamfights. Use your kalistarx.png to get 1.png to knock them, her job is to just use all her abilities. Give it a shot, you'll enjoy it!

  • 201.png89.png those 2 have exactly the same role, very tanky supports with a lot of cc. They apply a lot of kill pressure and enough time for you to stack your spears and deal a great amount of damage.

  • 223.png deals a great damage with his tongue and can also keep you alive from ganks. When he devours, yu can use your kalistarx.png and put them out of position, it's a really great combo.

Kalista Kite Bind

This bind will allow you to kite your enemies in a much easier way, as soon as you press "A" your champion will attack the closest enemy and move to where your cursor is. This is one of the best tools you can use as Kalista. Give it a try and let me know on the comments section below!

Player's Mentality Back to Top

506.png

Pro Mindset

The most successful players all have one thing in common, either they win or lose, they always think "what could have I done better?". This is the key for you to become closer to the greatest players, it's not about how many games you play in a day, it's about what you learn from each of them.

179.png

Tiltproof

The easiest thing to do when you are losing a game is to blame your team, even if you're right, that won't give any help on winning the game. If you really want to get into the next level, try to keep cool and boost our teammates morale.

179.png

Winning Attitude

Everyone is fed in the other team, your team is far behind and the easiest thing to do here is surrender. You might argue that it'll save you a lot of time and playing would be a waste. Yes, you're right, but some of those games you'll actually win, and you'll learn much more from hard games than from easy games that finish at 15min. Just keep focus and don't stop believing. Everyone throws, even the pros.

179.png

Think about this:

If you're one of those players stuck in Silver, you feel like you deserve much more, but you are just unlucky and can't climb, it feels like a curse that Riot put on you. I will tell you straight away there's no such thing, and yes, sometimes we can be very unlucky, but it doesn't last. If you're stuck there, you might've been doing something wrong, the proof is that people boost accounts and they know exactly what to do in order to carry a game and climb quickly. If you find yourself in that situation, I suggest watching some of your own replays, maybe your mechanics are good but it only takes a few mistakes for you to not be able to carry your team. Start thinking, what could have you done better? The other team is silver too, if you're much better you should be able to outplay them in every way possible.

Special: How to get in The Zone Back to Top

506.png

179.png
What is being "In The Zone"?

179.png
  • It's a state of mind where you become extremely focused and hyper productive!

  • Being in the zone is being completely immersed in what you're doing. Losing the sense of time is very common while in this state of mind.

  • You'll be able to predict your opponents movements and see them almost like in slow motion!

    179.png

    How to enter "The Zone".
    179.png

  • Think about what you're doing and your role.

  • Get rid of distractions. (Close the door if open. Being on a conversation will most likely stop you from entering this state as you'll get distracted easily).

  • You need a deep understanding on what you're doing. (Once again, know your role and your opponent as well).
  • Create a balance between challenge and skill. Big challenges require huge skill. Taking a step bigger than your leg will only get you demotivated. (Yes, this one is for boosted accounts.)

  • Be patient, it might take some time to achieve and master this state of mind.

  • Now that you know about it, you just made it easier.

    Flow.jpg

    Flow_balance.jpg
Source: Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, "The Flow" (1990), p. 74.

  • As you may notice, balance is key. Even if you skill level is low, a small challenge for some people can be a true one for you!

(I do not own this video.)

  • Use headphones.

  • Those sounds will help you achieve a focused state of mind.
