Summoner Spells Back to Top

When to take ignite?
Typically you want to take ignite instead of exhaust. You are looking to slaughter the other bottom lane. Not reduce their damage. You want to erase their champion off the rift.  Karma has very strong early game pressure and ignite can score you a kill and snow ball the game in your favor.

When to take Exhaust?
Sometimes however, exhaust is a better choice. If they have strong assassin like champions on the other team you may need exhaust to save your carries. For example if the other team has Rengar or Kha'zix or Zed. It may be wise to take Exhaust against champions that can easily dive/engage onto your team. I also suggest taking exhaust if both your top laner and mid laner take ignite.

Masteries Back to Top

I recommend using this setup of 0/18/12. This is a more defensive oriented mastery setup. Even though Karma has a lot of pressure early game you do not need the offensive masteries to still be a threat. And as Support you will be behind on levels and items so you need the extra defensive's to not die.

Stat wise, cooldown reduction is a great stat on Karma. So at the moment I enjoy taking Intelligence for the bonus 5% CDR. As well as Windspeaker's Blessing for bigger shields and heals. However if you want you could also take Precision for the Penetration and Thunder Lord Decree for more damage output.

I wouldn't really recommend going deep into the Ferocity tree.

Make sure you are using your ult very often as Karma. Early game you want to use it offensively. In lane sometimes you may want to hold onto your ult if you are scared of dieing.(e.g. getting hooked by Blitz) then you can use your ULT + W to heal yourself and root your target.

Small tip.. when you use your ult and then use W it heals for 20% of your missing life and then another 20% if the root isnt broken. That means the lower HP you are the bigger the heal will be. You can use this to your advantage as the size of your health will be deceptively big. Try to bait and enemy out of position with your low HP and then hit them with your ULT W.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Start with these items.. I straight up buy the Refillable Potion so that I never have to waste gold on health pots for the rest of the game.
Early game usually on my first back I grab the 2nd tier support item and a pink ward. Next back you want to get your sightstone and trade your warding trinket to the sweeping lens one.

Core Items

This is the core build. Also upgrade your sweeping lens as soon as you are level 9. You can pick whatever boots you want but you want to get tier 2 boots quickly. I like the CDR boots or Spell Pen boots if ahead.
After your core you will want some items with Cool Down Reduction. Always try to get the max 40% but never waste stats by going over it. 30% CDR can work to but thats the lowest you will want to go.
After you have 40% CDR you will usually want to build some damage and Liandry's and Rylai's give awesome stats for Karma. So I will usually go with Liandry's first though.
Example of a final Support Karma build.
Another example of a fine build.
This build is solid. I currently build these items a lot

Situational Items

If you get to super late game and you want some more damage pick this baby up.
These defensive items are great and can fit into your build if you need them.
READ BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ITEMS AND BUILD PATHS.
There are many different build paths that work great on Karma. There is no real "cookie cutter" build that is the best to do every time. You can go heavy AP, hybrid or even full on tank and do great. I recommend you try the builds that I discuss below. However, if it does not suit your play style try experimenting with items/builds that you enjoy and that work for you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your first "core" items will be similiar every game. It will consist of a support item, sightstone and boots.
You want to try and get max CDR as Karma support. So during the game be planning on which items you will build for later on in the game.

2301.png+1001.png(you can pick up tier 1 boots before you finish the support item if you wish)

Your choice on boots will come down to how many CDR items you plan on building later in the game. Some games I get the CDR Boots and then finish with two more 10% CDR items, which gives me the 40% cap. For example a common build I do is something like this:

                                       2301.png>>>>3158.png
>>>>3504.png>>>>3060.png===45% CDR

However with the new buff to Grievous Wounds Debuff and the changes to Athene's (which makes it a good buy on Karma) you may not want to buy the CDR Boots as later in the game you will go over your CDR cap. Therefore, you will want to buy a different pair of boots, I typically go with 3009.png or 3020.png(if ahead.)
So an example of that build would be something like:
                                       2301.png>>>>3009.png>>>>3174.png>>>>3504.png===45% CDR

Once you have your "core" items complete ( 2301.png+1001.png) you have many options you can choose.

If the other team has a lot of magic damage building one of these items is a great buy.

   3060.png  3000g
-Allows you to effectively split push a lane while generating additional gold income.
-Can completely stop an AP enemy champion from pushing a lane since the promoted minion only takes physical damage.
-Gives great stats for Karma including Ability Power and AOE MR for your team.

TIP: When an objective is about to spawn such as Dragon or Baron, send a promoted cannon minion down the lane furthest from the objective. The other team will not be able to waste resources to stop it (most dont even notice it) allowing the promoted minion to push very hard.

  3190.png2500g

-Gives AOE MR for your team
-The active on the item is an AOE shield, great teams with high burst or high AOE Damage.
-Fairly Cheap for the stats it provides.

                                                                   3504.png

Ardent Censer works great on Karma since you can buff everyone with it with your Mantra E. I try to build this if I have multiple teammates are rely heavily on their auto attacks. If you build this item make sure to Mantra E your team when taking an objective. Buffing your whole team with this item allows you to take towers, barons, etc, very quickly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                                    3174.png

Athene's is now a pretty good item for Karma Support. Doing damage to enemy champions gives you a buff that gives your shield a heal. The stats are all great for Karma! And it is pretty cheap now. I highly recommend you pick up this item! Try building it 3rd.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                                    3165.png
If the enemy team has champions that heal a lot (Soraka, Mundo, etc.) then consider picking up this item. The stats it gives are all good but the real reason you build it is for the passive "Grevious Wounds." This item is also a great buy if you get ahead early. However it is expensive for a support.

Grievous Wounds is a debuff that reduces all healing received by 40%

VS

Alistar

Easy

Poke him down in lane. Auto Attack him a lot dont stop harassing him. However be careful not to get knocked up by his Q cause he can then headbutt you out of position. When you are near his turret be careful of a flash + Q cause then he can headbutt you under their turret.

VS

Annie

Medium

She has high damage and can blow you or your ADC up. Try to poke from range and always watch for when her stun comes up. When you see she has her stun up play safe. Keep lane bushes warded.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

Should be an easy lane as long as you stay behind minions and dont get hooked. If you do get hooked try to use your Ult + W on adc or blitz to get the heal on yourself.

VS

Braum

Easy

Harass him with your Q and auto attacks. Be careful of his Q and his passive. If you avoid his poke / passive stun you will win lane.

VS

Janna

Medium

This lane can go either way. In this match-up it is possible to have a slow farm lane or a fast paced lane with lots of fighting so be prepared for both.

Things to look for..

  • Be careful when trading when she shields her ADC.
  • Usually the enemy ADC will want to fight when Janna shields him/her
  • Her shield is stronger than yours, however you can put out more damage than her.

VS

Leona

Easy

This is a very easy lane for Karma.
At level 1 you want to start poking her down. Use your Q and a lot of auto attacks. Your goal is to get her low quickly so that she can not all in you level 2. If you play it right she will be to low to go in at all. If she is low and goes in simply kill her.

If she has a decent amount of health and goes in on your adc then just ignore her and go start killing their adc. Instantly root the enemy adc and ULT + Q him in the face. Follow that up with ignite and keep killing him usually you can kill their adc before Leo ever knew what happened :)

VS

Lulu

Medium

This lane is more difficult then most. Lulu has a lot of damage and her CC is more reliable than yours. Play passive if you feel that you can take the upper hand vs her in lane then start playing more aggressive.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Dodge her Q or you're in for a bad time. Also be very careful when she is level 6 if she lands her ult and all ins you she will win.

VS

Nami

Hard

Very hard lane. Nami has decent poke and can buff her ADC to do more damage. She also has good CC and can easily heal all your poke. Play passive and try not to get hit by her bubble.

VS

Sona

Hard

She has a lot of damage and healing. She can heal up your poke and can return trades. Play passive and try to avoid her damage.

VS

Soraka

Hard

This matchup sucks because Soraka can heal all your poke and slowly grind your HP down. Try to focus your poke onto Soraka. Poking her ADC won't do much as she can heal it back very quickly. Try to dodge her Q starcall.png if she casts it at you. And get out of her silence infuse.pngquickly as possible as it will root you in place once it ends.

Trying to poke vs Soraka also will run you oom very fast. Its best to play passive and try to wait for your team to help your lane out.
