Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png  A must have summoner spell that is very versatile!

3.png - Against tough melee match-ups like Talon or Zed

14.png-Ignite against a heavy healing team or if you plan to be aggressive at level 6

Masteries Back to Top

Standard AP Assassin page as of 6.2. I wanderer since we don't have issues last hitting thanks to our W. Take feast for the early game sustain, every bit helps with Kassadin early. I like the extra penetration over the cool-down reduction since Kass does not heavily rely on it. Bounty Hunter over Oppressor is simply for preference but I think it's more fitting for a snowballing assassin!

You can also run 0-18-12 against tough match-ups like a Talon or Pantheon.

When to max Q or E:

Max Q if you think you can out sustain your opponent or won't have an issue wave clearing.

Max E against a spell spamming ability such as Yasuo or if you cannot out sustain the laner and must clear waves under tower.

W is a very nice ability but we max this last since it only becomes useful once team-fights start to take place.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Starting Items to help out-sustain or just simply survive pre-6
    First or second back

Core Items

Rush RoA always! Provides a lot of much needed stats for Kassadin and is very gold efficient.
    Lichbane 2nd when ahead/even or 3rd after a Zhonya's or Abyssal.
CHOOSE ONE: -based on your lane match-up -based enemy team comp

Situational Items

Insane damage spike but does not help us out early-mid and is too expensive. Usually take as 6th item
    Against magic resist heavy teams
Late game tankiness and second chance!
Personal favourite, take as a 5th or 6th item since it does not provide great stats. The mana restoration is huge since it allows us to spam riftwalk during team fights. It also caps our cdr at 40% which makes our ult on a 1 second cooldown at Rank 3.
    Standard Final Build
Always have a pink ward on your side of the map and buy this op potion after your build or in the middle for a sweet mid-game damage spike

VS

Ahri

Hard

She will push you to the tower and poke you down so be very careful and do not go for last hits that will get you charmed. at level 6 you might be able to outplay her but she is very hard to catch with her ultimate, just try to farm and roam to get rolling.

VS

Anivia

Easy

Dodge her slow ball of death and you should be very safe pre-6 and should be able to push her out of lane with Q spamming. Once you get your ult you should never be hit by her Q and you will be able to all in

VS

Azir

Easy

Q spam him to try and out sustain him, he has a long range with his soldiers but Azir is fairly weak early. Level 6 depends on the azir's skill but usually wait for his ult to come out before going all in

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

A ton of poke pre-6 will make it very hard to last hit; good news is that she will be pushing with only a flash to help her get away so if you have a strong early game jungler call for a gank.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Skill-Based match-up, usually will end in a farm fest. Be aware that if he hits his outgoing Q on you he will E in to get his 3 hit passive off, so avoid this and you should be safe!

VS

Galio

Medium

Anti-Mage vs Anti-Mage! Galio has very strong base damage on his abilities but he is very mana starved so you have a chance to out sustain him pre-6. At level 6 it will make it very hard for us to get him but be careful for his ult. Try to push the wave and roam for your team

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

Turns out the braniac is pretty brainless to play. His turrets will keep the wave pushed and he will harass with wrenches and his missiles which will make it very hard to cs. His passive also makes it hard to out sustain with our limited poke.

VS

Karthus

Easy

This is a matchup to max E first since he will spam Q every few seconds. Try to bully him out of lane and don't get isolated because his Q's will really start to hurt pre-6

VS

Katarina

Easy

Spam Q and push her out of lane. The one match-up where Kassadin can zone early, save your W when she comes in melee range to last hit.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

Can be scary but surprisingly we can win trades early. When she jumps in Q her to block some magic damage followed by an AA and a w for a ton of damage, E afterwards if you have it.

Froggen showed me how to outplay a LB post-6. Simply Q her before she is coming to us and E if you have it, then rift walk backwards.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Pretty broken base damage on her abilities. Farm under tower.

VS

Lux

Medium

Very annoying harass and hard to poke if she is smart with her shield. Play safe until 6 and we can outplay her with our ult. Save your ult for her Q dodge if she has it up.

VS

Malzahar

Medium

Pretty tough champion to lane against no matter who you are. He doesn't have a ton of sustain so Q harass him and farm under tower. Ask for a gank if he's over extended

VS

Orianna

Medium

She might be able to zone a little but she cannot spam her spells too much. It will mostly be her strong AA harass. Q her as much as possible and farm safe. Level 6 all in.

VS

Ryze

Hard

Very strong right now. Don't get too close or he will chain cc you and send you back to base.

VS

Swain

Easy

Pre-6 very laid back match-up, he doesn't have any sustain without his ult so abuse that while you can. Q whenever he tries to harass with his dot to prevent as much damage as possible. Post-6 you can out sustain him with small trades and eventually all-in with ignite (recommended vs Swain). Swain needs to be close to deal damage so let him approach us and save your ult for his snare. A good trade for us when he is close is to auto followed up by a W then ult away from his snare following up with a Q and E (if you have it)

VS

Syndra

Medium

Should be able to push her out of lane. Dodge her Q and let her push to tower as she is very vulnerable to ganks. Level 6 we can outplay by ulting onto her as she tries to harass.

VS

Talon

Hard

Very tough match-up, max E to wave clear and considering taking an armor Quint on top of armor seals. Sit wayyyy back.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

He has little sustain and we shouldnt get hit by his Wild cards. Level 6 keep a close watch and TP to the lane he ganks if you take TP.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Q spam pre-6. Post-6 we can R over his stun wall which makes him very vulnerable and his burst will not do much thanks to our passive.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium

Very good at harassing us so we will be under tower most likely. Post-6 we stomp all over him as there is not much he can do if we dodge everything.

VS

Viktor

Easy

Viktor has little sustain so try to zone him. Our Q > his Q so go for it every time and side step his E on the way out. He will want to push us to tower but really try to zone him early.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

Very annoying to lane against. Should'nt be able to kill us if we sit back out of Q range. Don't see too many vlad mid's however.

VS

Xerath

Medium

He will harass and push to tower like most champs. Pre-6 we can't do anything to him so just focus on faring. Level 6 is where the magic happens

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Max e since he spams. Q to bring down his shield, harass with E and auto's if he gets close

VS

Zed

Hard

OP as hell right now no matter how strong your early game. He can farm and harass very safely and he will all in us level 6 if we are out of position. Sit back and farm, look to roam and follow Zed if he leaves lane.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Good harass on us but our Q should push him back a bit, he will look to siege us as much as possible. Post-6 we stomp this yordle.

Strategy Back to Top

Early Game:

Pre-6 is rough for kassadin in most cases. Farm safe, use Q to mitigate harass damage. Try to control minions to stay on your side of the lane but not at your tower. Against match-ups with minimal sustain, Q every chance you get, they will often get antsy and try to go super aggressive. Ask your jungler or top laner for help if you think they will try something silly.

Mid-Game:

Shove lane and roam, repeat. With your Rift walk you pose a huge threat to any immobile champion roaming alone. Kassadin draws a lot of attention when sitting mid so roaming will keep you safe and add fear to the enemy side laners. Most of this game is psychological, don't over commit, go for kills when necessary but objectives are even more important.

Late-Game:

Once you get morello's it is your time to shine. In many of my games as Kassadin I have decimated the back line with a x4 riftwalk and morello's allows you to do this. Be patient in team fights, don't be the one to engage. Usually start off by peeling for your adc and when the time is right, dive the back line.
