Summoner Spells

127.jpg

4.png Always Take Flash 4.png

Other than desperately wanting to be flashed like Kennen, the utility you get out of this summoner spell is necessary to play him well. Your flash + ult engages are legendary. You always want to have it. It's potentially game winning.

Secondaries:

12.png This is what you should run top. Kennen has EXCELLENT tp gank potential. If you're able to grant your bot lane an early lane, you've done a great job. Don't be greedy and take ignite, you should be able to poke them down till they're low enough to engage. You can take it mid as well, it's up to you.

14.png Now if we go mid lane, we have the luxury of taking this bad boy. Ignite is a great option to snowball mid, as you don't need the TP to gank bot or top. You're able to roam much easier when you're mid. You can also take this is a support if you don't need exhaust for a damage threat on their team, it'll help you snowball early.

3.png For support when they have a huge damage threat on the enemy team. It's better later in the game.

Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=32IMPORTANT note for Spellbook users:

Depending on who you are up against, you may want to take a couple different things. 90% of the time, you will start off with 14.png ignite for pressure to help score an early kill in lane. However, against a lane counter or an aggressive jungler you can take 3.png exhaust just in case, or 1.png cleanse against 60.png Elise. On your first back/once you hit 6, make sure to switch back to

Other Options

6.png High elo Kennens take this mid, it helps with engages against annoying teams. Couple with stormraider's to become an unstable, unstoppable ball of sexual energy

7.png 4 ADC

11.png 4 Jungle

Inspiration Route

The inspiration route solves quite a few issues that Kennen suffers from. First off, you get flash up every three and a half minutes. Also, having teleport up more often means more roaming and TP ganks. God didn't intend for people to have this much power. This makes engaging in the mid - late game a breeze. It also grants you safety to engage aggressively in lane to try and get cheesy kills. Second, this meta revolves around gold generation. A lot. This rune page grants you 600 gold, absolutely free. Couple this with cull and you're essentially granted 100 free gold into the mid game, which is a nice powerspike. This also helps as in season 8 Kennen has a much harder time killing opponents, and now you don't need to, because you get free gold for playing safe! Wow! (Disclaimer: Do not play needlessly passive just because you get free handouts.) In addition, you can take ignite first, which also helps you net some cheesy kills. However, the downside is you're giving up a lot of early lane pressure, so it is a lot harder to snowball, and if you fall behind you don't have damage to fall back on. This lets your opponent zone you out of CS and experience, meaning your extra flash engages are going to suck.

Other Options:

Magical%20Footwear.png?width=32 Runes aren't updated on lolking as of this inclusion, but you may want magical footwear if you're not worried about being dived or in matchups where early movement speed isn't important.

Futures%20Market.png?width=32 I think minion dematerializer is better, but if you want some "extra gold" for items, you can take debt instead.

Scorch.png?width=32 Some people take Scorch for the extra damage in lane, but imo if you're going inspiration you shouldn't try to make your worse laning phase slightly better and worsen your damage and engages later in the game by not taking Celerity. Its a fine option though if you really thing you can kill the enemy laner.

Sorcery Kennen

This route is the opposite of the route above, its all about early lane pressure and snowballing to gain a lead. With this route, you do a lot more damage in lane, and the amount of CS and experience you can end up denying your enemy lane opponent by forcing them out of lane can potentially make you snowball even harder than you would from inspiration. However, if you don't gain a lead you're pretty much just playing a worse game, and aery and scorch are negligible late game. This is one you wanna take to extend your lead against those you counter in lane. I prefer the inspiration route in most situations.

Other options:

Electrocute Kennen

This route allows you to nuke your lane opponent a lot easier, and the sustain you get from ravenous hunter mimics the old spell vamp quints. It's pretty good, but I prefer to take it mid lane or against any champion I can't poke down with aery.

Other options:

Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 Relentless Hunter can work well with Celerity, but Ravenous Hunter just gives you so much sustain in lane it'd be dumb in almost every situation to not take it.

Masteries Back to Top

R.I.P (Keeping for archival purposes)

Rundown of all the masteries:

Ferocity

(Go 12 when building AP and 18 when going AD)

6111.png / 6114.png : Fury is good for AD Kennen, Sorcery is good for AP Kennen.

6121.png / 6122.png / 6123.png : Fresh blood is good against melee champions you can harass with autos, feast against ranged matchups where you can't harass and need sustain. Expose weakness on support.

6131.png / 6134.png : If you have SV Quints or don't need sustain take five in natural talent. Otherwise a 2/3 split is best imo.

6141.png / 6142.png / 6143.png : Double edged sword for AP, Battle Trance for AD. Bounty hunter is for people who are confident in their ability to snowball, and I always take it except when supporting.

6151.png / 6154.png : Battering blows since you should only be at this point while building AD.

6162.png : just take fervor okay

Cunning

(Go 18 when building AP)

6311.png / 6312.png : Savagery always because of your poor waveclear, except for when you're supporting.

6321.png / 6322.png / 6323.png : Assassin always unless going support.

6331.png : you literally don't have mana what the fuck

6341.png / 6342.png / 6343.png : Greenfathers gift is good against melee laners when going top, but it's up to playstyle, really. I always take dangerous game, as its better late game. Bandit for support.

6361.png / 6362.png : This is where it gets confusing. Challenger Kennens seem to really enjoy taking Stormraider's, which is fine. Stormraider's is berry good for utility, you can run in and stun a lot of people super fast and let your team clean up. In addition you can play aggressively with E to proc it and get away safely. This can result in you doing more damage with E, but only in certain situations, and its still a lot riskier than thunderlords. You also can use it to escape ganks more safely. In some situations, it even lets you keep up with slippery champions and make them stay in your ult for the full 3 seconds and get more damage with it than with Thunderlord's. However, it is SUPER team reliant, so that's why only the highest elo Kennens take it. Relying on your team for damage is risky in solo queue IMO unless you know they're competent. I take Thunderlord's because its better in lane, and because I really rely on damage on Kennen in this meta considering all of the shields you need to cut through to burst a carry. All my diamond friends seem to like it better, and I tend to agree.

(tl;dr thunderlords better for safe burst+ low elo, stormraiders better for teamfights + lets you play aggressively with E, also u should always take thunderlords on support)

Resolve

(Go 12 when building AD)

6211.png / 6212.png : Recovery is better for sustain in lane.

6221.png / 6222.png / 6223.png : I always take tough skin, mostly because the other two aren't super good to you.

6231.png / 6232.png : IMO Runic armor is better. Veteran scars isn't very good.

6241.png : take insight

Skill Description

127.jpg

kennen passive.png

Passive: Mark of the Storm

This is what provides Kennen utility to his kit. This allows you to be the teamfighting monster you are and forces the enemy team to build against you. Although its utility isn't as flashy in lane, it's still a vital part of his kit. You can use it to stun junglers coming in for a gank, you can use it to stun melee laners who go in for you to get away safely, you can snipe them with a Q as soon as you have two stacks to get a surprise stun and all-in your opponent, you can use it to pressure opponents away from their CS, you can stack marks slowly to set up for surprise stuns, e.t.c. A wonderful tool for teamfighting or chainstunning in 1v1s.

kennen q.png

Q - Thundering Shuriken

Man oh man do I love this ability. This is your main ability for poke and last hitting. Its on a low cooldown, it's spammable for its low cost, and don't underestimate it for being single target: this thing chunks and deals TONS of damage to single targets. It has high base damage and a pretty high scaling as well. Getting good at landing this ability is vital if you want to play Kennen to his full potential. I use it to poke in lane, as a combo starter, or to catch someone out and finish a stun. Save this in teamfights for your priority target.

kennen w.png

W - Electrical Surge

Passive: This ability is good for harassing melee laners, and for procing thunderlords quickly or adding stacks of your passive quickly in combination with your active. Make sure you have your passive ready for teamfights! +30 AP can always help out.

Active: This is good when used in tandem with your Q or its passive to get extra damage and/or stacks off on your lane opponent. It's also an effective wave clear tool when used with your E, but be cautious as you're wasting two of your abilities, on being your escape, so make sure no one is around to catch you out. Also, make sure you use it early on or when an enemy is inside your ultimate, as you can't use the active without having at least one mark of the storm or without having someone inside your ultimate.

kennen e.png

E - Lightning Rush

Lightning rush is your main tool for engaging and escaping. When used as an escape tool in lane, make sure all CC has been used so it cannot be cancelled. Situationally, it may also be used for damage in lane, or to kite an enemy back to their tower to kill them. As an engage tool, it simply speeds you up in order to move your ult faster. However, be sure to prioritize using this for damage in teamfights. It's not always possible, but you should always try. 80% AP and 250 base damage is A LOT OF DAMAGE. Also, the resistances by the E can be used to barely survive certain abilities, like Karthus or Caitlyn ult. The resistances you get when maxing this ability are crazy strong in tandem with the health and resistances you build on the main path, turn you into an off-tank AP bruiser late game.

kennen r.png

R - Slicing Maelstrom

This is by far Kennen's most revered ability. This is what turns you into a formidable dueler and a teamfighting monster. It's an AoE ability with great damage an utility. After the nerfs, this ability has seen better days, but it's still an amazing tool. Just focus on keeping your targets inside the ultimate for as long as you can, as the damage increases with each and every bolt. Ideally before protobelting or flashing, you want to activate it right before engaging, as there is a bit of a delay, so use it just before you hit your target so they take the initial bolt damage. In teamfights, you use this ability to burst the backline or protect your carries if their team is too fed to take down. One good Kennen ultimate can be gamechanging. Also, its INCREDIBLE at denying dragon or baron. The entire team just huddles up in a pit, they're asking to be ulted.

179.png

Skill Order

127.jpg

Don't always max Q! Q max is the best ability to max first on Kennen. It unarguably gives you the highest damage output of any skill order. You could argue W max is better for AoE, but single target is much more important early game for Kennen, especially when ganking, and Q max is still better in extended trades. However, this is at the highest proficiency, and you have to be AMAZING to reap the benefits of Q max in every single matchup. That's why I recommend going different routes depending on the matchup. However, once you get used to him, maxing Q in most matchups is definitely going to help you out.

Q Max

kennenshurikenstorm.png  dot-pattern.pngkennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png  dot-pattern.pngkennenbringthelight.png  dot-pattern.pngkennenlightningrush.png

This is the route you want to go against lanes you are confident with, in most ranged matchups, or in lanes where you are able to easily get poke damage off on the opponent. Your success with this route depends heavily on how good you are at landing skillshots.

TL; DR Take this in matchups against champs you're confident against, against ranged champs, and when going support.

Pros:

  • Highest damage output
  • Good poke
  • Best route for CS'ing in lane
  • Allows for "passive-aggressive" play, hard for enemy to punish
  • Great against ranged enemies

Cons:

  • Dependent on you landing it consistently
  • Cannot hit through minions: hard to do damage if enemy hides behind the wave
  • Hard to land against mobile enemies, heavily punished if you miss them
  • Slightly higher energy cost
  • don't get to hear W moan as often :-(

W Max

kennenshurikenstorm.png  dot-pattern.pngkennenbringthelight.png  dot-pattern.pngkennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png kennenlightningrush.png

Although this is the theoretically less effective route, you can still do very well in this matchup. In fact, against certain champions like Yasuo and Fiora, I think it's even better than Q max even at the highest level. W max is great against most melee champs, allowing more consistent, albeit more dangerous harass. Once you hit level 9, you gain the ability to permastun your enemies, effectively making you untouchable for them. In most cases you want to take Doran's blade to compliment that auto attacks required to effectively pull off this route.

TL;DR Take it against melee champs you can auto harass easily, and whenever you go AD.

Pros:

  • Makes it easier to harass melee champs.
  • Allows you to waveclear easier when pushing, although this is slightly risky.
  • Level 9 permastun makes laning against you incredibly difficult.
  • Arguably better for 2v1s when getting ganked.

Cons:

  • Overall, you do less single target damage, and have worse poke.
  • Harder to CS in riskier matchups without Q spam.
  • Makes it riskier to do damage.

Note: W > E > Q max when going AD. It's not good on AP Kennen anymore after ult nerfs.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Good starting item, gives sustain, health, and good harass against melee champions.
Good for dodging skillshot-based champions like Xerath, Lux, Ahri, and Cassiopeia. IMO new D Shield + MS Quints are better.
[PATCH 7.9] This item is now amazing to take against ranged champions.
so you think you're hot shit u dork???

Core Items

This item as of its introduction has been amazing. Damage, health, CDR, and an engage tool all in one item. I always take it.
This item's active synergizes well with your ultimate, and allows you to sit on their team without taking any damage or being displaced, while giving you CDR and armor too. It's a more reasonable choice as a second/third item in certain situations.
A great item to take against teams stacking MR, or for when you want raw damage. if 2 or more people are building Mr, its better than Rab Cap most of the time.
[Patch 8.1] Now that MR has been removed, its more reasonable to build this item 4th or 5th before void staff rather than last if only one person or one person + the support are stacking MR. Other than that, its super expensive and generally other items work better.
This item is great for kiting bruisers, but I feel like after nerfs most other items are better.
[Patch 8.1] Guise is core for killing squishies. Its super important now that MR runes are gone. You should almost always upgrade it first/second item depending on the situation. This item is FANTASTIC right now.
[PATCH 7.9] This item is now way shittier on you than it was imo, but it's now a viable defensive pick against important CC or AP heavy comps.
Sorc - Most common, good for damage. Ionian - Less common, good when you need good flash engages Merc - Situational, fuck CC
[IN NO ORDER] Example build w/ Rylais against bruisers and slippery enemies.
[IN NO ORDER] Example build against teams stacking health or against squishy targets.
[IN NO ORDER] Example build against tanky teams where your CC is more important than your damage.
[FUCK YOU AHRI] Fuck you Ahri
On-hit build that's all the rage top lane. Use it if you want to be a dirty little meta slave uwu [Edit 7.13] No longer fit for dirty meta slaves
ADC kennen build, i swear its good okay
[NOT UPDATED FOR SEASON8] I will update this once the PBE support changes go through.

Situational Items

This item is super troll on Kennen but goddamn if this doesn't make you one shot people w/ Rab cap. Take it if you need ungodly amounts of damage and no survivability for some reason.
if you're snowballing and you're a terrible human being.
[PATCH 7.9] Yeah okay rest in peace. This WAS a good item to counter GA on the enemy team, but now its really cost inefficient on you. Luckily, you won't find it built by AP enemies anymore (generally).
the quickest way to trigger me is to ask me if you should build this item in x situation. the answer is no. it will always be no. if you are above plat 5, the answer is always going to be no, don't build this unless you and your team are STUPID fed and you're okay with crippling yourself. stop building this soiled diaper of an item or so help me god
much like ludens its weird and other items are way better
stop trying to make "nashor's tooth" happen. it's never going to happen.

179.pngStarting Off

127.jpg

(Recommended starter items will be available under the matchups!)

1083.png [ Patch 8.1] This meta's emphasis on gold means that this item is super good now! I generally will take it first against a tank who has lots of regen or against a lane who I know I won't kill. Otherwise, I'll take it second if I haven't netted any kills yet, generally for the sake of slot efficiency, but even then its still a good choice.

1055.png This has been the classic starter item on Kennen for a very long time. This item gives you a little extra sustain, health, and AD for harass and last hitting. This is a good option against most all melee champions.

1054.png As of patch 7.9, this item is a godsend on Kennen against ranged champions. Kennen has always had a serious issue with sustain against lanes 103.png which push and poke 103.png super hard 103.png or lanes who have lots of sustain themselves 103.png103.png103.png. Take this against ranged champs or champs with lots of harass.

1082.png [Patch 8.1] This item is a lot riskier now. It's a good item for snowballing an asserting yordle dominance. Only take if you're VERY confident in your ability to get kills and mark your territory.

1001.png This used to be a niche option against skillshot poke champs like Cass, Lux, Xerath, e.t.c, but I feel like it is now outscaled by taking D Shield and Celerity.

179.pngCore Items

127.jpg

(Remember that every item is situational! Don't build the same thing every game or you're mistreating Kennen and I will FIND you)

3152.png This item is like the one good thing Riot games has done in a while. Protobelt has proved itself worthy of being a core item on Kennen. Its cheap, it gives you health, a good buildpath, great damage, CDR, and it works as an initiation tool.

3157.png This item used to be a bit worse, but I'm finding myself building it 3rd, 4th, or even 2nd rather than 4th or 5th. Although you lack damage by building this item, it makes a lot more sense to build now that armor seals are a thing of the past. You can make more use of the passive with Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 Cosmic Insight, and not to mention its 300g cheaper when you take Perfect%20Timing.png?width=32 Perfect Timing, which also helps you if you're getting turret dived. Couple this with the fact you might have cull AND a starting item taking a place in your inventory and slot efficiency might be bugging you in the near future, so sometimes its nice to just get this item over with. Generally you only want to rush this against champions like Zed or Kayn, sometimes even Pantheon or Jayce or when you're worried about getting turret dived. Only finish this item when you need the stasis or CDR for teamfights.

Tl;DR If you need armor stick with seekers, rush this item against Zed/Kayn/e.t.c., finish it when you need the CDR and you're able to time the stasis between teamfights.

Support

I HAVEN'T PLAYED SUPPORT YET IN PATCH 8.1. I need time to update this, and I probably won't until the current pbe changes go through. Stay tuned, folks.

3303.png Your starting item. The extra damage and gold justifies the wasted mana regen. Upgrade to 3098.png on first back.

3109.png Gives you and your ADC more survivability. Makes your 2v2 ability incredible.

3117.png Being a hyper squirrel and running around poking and engaging on people is very helpful | 3158.png Good for CDR, your item cooldowns, and summoner spells. Good if you're dependent on flash/exhaust.

2301.png I like this better than Ruby, plus you don't have to sell your Spellthief's. Build sightstone before Knight's Vow because it isn't Ardent Censer so you don't have the luxury of delaying your teams vision at no cost :)

3800.png A great tool for strengthening your initiations. Makes you tankier and faster. Build if your initiates are needed.

3190.png A good item for canceling burst/AoE. Build if someone on your team has either and are a problem.

3050.png After Patch 7.19, this item seems a little more consistent, but I still don't know if it's good enough yet. Its good early if your ADC is super fed.

3116.png Good if your team is lacking on slows/CC.

2301.png3152.png3020.png3116.png3157.png3135.png Old AP Kennen support build, not very good in the meta so RIP but it can still be good sometimes.

AD Kennen

[NERFED as of Patch 7.13]

3153.png This item works great considering your lack of AD ratios/physical damage abilities and your amazing attack speed.

3046.png I think this item is better than 3085.png Runaan's after the nerf, but it's up to you what you want to build. Runaan's = better for splitting, PD = better for dueling.

3047.png Good against AD laners. | 3111.png Good against CC heavy teams. | 3006.png Greedy boy item for bad boy snowballing yordle boys.

3022.png This item basically turns you into the best kiter in the game, it's so fucking annoying and so good in 1v1's.

3091.png Good for on-hit damage against a team with some noticeable magic damage. Also a good item to build early if the enemy team stacks shit loads of armor early game.

3139.png Good against teams with a CC you desperately need to get out of.

3036.png3033.pngFor dumbass tanky boys and dumbass healy boys, respectively.

3026.png This item is great if you're the threat on the team and you want them to have to focus you incredibly hard. Exerts more pressure than a Palkia.

3153.png 3006.png3085.png/3094.png 3031.png3046.png3036.png/3033.png Crit ADC Kennen build, it's not what you would really consider "good at all" but it's fun! (Disclaimer: don't build this)

179.png

My Build Order

127.jpgI may need some time to rework this part for Patch 8.1

UN-Current Patch [7.19] (probably outdated) Standard:

This is my absolute favorite build right now. I build this if things are going according to plan: no big AP or AD threats on the enemy team, and I'm not behind. The build order may seem weird, but the reason we don't go straight into Protobelt is because the utility it gives is more for teamfighting, which isn't so important early on. However, by sticking with revolver and then building into guise and sorc boots, we still retain damage from Revolver, the survivability from guise, and most importantly we get 30 flat pen for ganking bot from mid/top, which is a staple of Kennen's, and will assist us in blowing our load over the enemy ADC. At that point its generally a good idea to finish into protobelt to have your ults up to transition to mid game.

A couple other things to note about the build: you can finish void before Liandry's if they start stacking too much MR, Rab cap can be built earlier if you get an early lead, I only build Zhonya's before Void staff if I need stasis badly.

ALSO its sometimes better to rush Protobelt against immobile mid laners, as you can 100 - 0 them or force them out of lane with your ult like every time

AD Sad Time Build:

3191.pngdot-pattern.png1001.pngdot-pattern.png3145.pngdot-pattern.png3020.pngdot-pattern.png3136.pngdot-pattern.png3152.pngdot-pattern.png3151.pngdot-pattern.png3157.png/3135.pngdot-pattern.png3089.png

Very similar to the build above, but is better against AD opponents like Zed, Talon, Wukong, Jayce, Jarvan, e.t.c. Just helps you die less in lane, which is generally pretty good.

Note that if ur against Zed, Kayn, or if you're getting towerdived by some dumb hooligan then rushing Zhonya's might be better.

The "I am being threatened"/AP Heavy Comp Build:

3145.pngdot-pattern.png1001.pngdot-pattern.png3152.pngdot-pattern.png3102.pngdot-pattern.png3151.pngdot-pattern.png3135.png/3157.png

This is a the build if you don't want your plush nubile yordle rump to get smashed by very critical CC, or alternatively it's good against very magic damage based comps. It's also good if they have a CC, generally a knockback, that can ruin your flash engages (Think Janna, and then stop thinking about Janna and think about anything else so she doesn't suck your soul out of your dick like a sippy straw)

Note that, depending on composition, you may not want to build Liandry's at all depending on if you want Rab Cap or not. Generally Laindry's is good, and then you can sell it late game for a Rab Cap, but if you're against tanks you should probably keep it, and if you need to nuke their backline, it''s better to get Rab Cap. Hell, if they don't have AD and your banshees is keeping you safe enough, you could ditch Zhonyas and get both.

VS

Aatrox

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
starting item: 1055.png2003.png
  • i have little experience in this matchup because no one plays this guy
  • all you need to do is avoid getting hit by his E or Q
  • be extra careful harassing with autos because he can jump on you fast. prepare to e as soon as he uses it

VS

Ahri

Hard
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • fuck ahri
  • Dodging Her Q really helps. Learn to strafe it left/right instead of walking back as its generally more reliable.
  • Stick to standing behind minions if her charm is up.
  • Don't auto harass or she'll outdamage you.
  • It's very difficult to kill Ahri once her ult is up, but getting a gank early can help.
  • 3020.png Early boots helps you maneuver around her abilities easier.
  • 3102.png Is a good idea if you're worried about her.
  • Ahri likes to shove lane and roam, always MIA and ward botside river.
  • Once she hits 6, If you want to all in her, bait out her ultimate. If your Q is up, wait to use it until she is stunned. It's too easy to miss her because of her mobility. Another opportunity to hit her with Q is when her ult stacks are on cooldown and her Q mobility is NOT in affect.
  • If she mispositions and she's low don't be afraid to flash ult.

VS

Akali

Medium
skill order:kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/ kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • harass her as much as you can pre-6.
  • she can only do damage to you pre-6 if you get close enough to let her proc Q.
  • if you both just hit 6 and she is not full health, you can generally get a kill on her
  • post-6, farm from a distance, try and hit Q's on her when she makes herself vulnerable, but DO NOT get jumped, you'll probably die
  • try not to let her roam, she doesn't have a lot of options snowballing against you but she can snowball from other lanes. Ward + MIA.
  • remember that with 3146.png hextech she has a lot of kill potential, even from very far away, because of her gapcloser.

VS

Anivia

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • learn to dodge her Q and you'll win lane pre-6.
  • keep track of her passive by clicking on her. don't be afraid to play aggressive when her passive is up. her low health pool generally guarantees a kill right after or soon after it pops, just don't towerdive or overextend for it.
  • she has more auto range and rocks your world close range so keep your distance.
  • if her Q is down, you can use your E aggressively.
  • If she uses her wall, you can E out of it easily without getting hit with her Q. However, keep in mind getting close to terrain/turrets, as she can place her wall so that its nearly impossible to escape.
  • post-6 she will shove lane with her ult and zone you so its hard to kill or harass her, its prime time for ganks though. Focus on last-hitting under tower, harass when safe.
  • Anivia is super immobile and sucks at roaming. Try to take advantage of this by asking for ganks and roaming when it's possible, just watch out because she can push lane incredibly fast.

VS

Annie

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start:  1054.png
  • Farm > harass. Harass with Q when it won't compromise CS. Approaching will generally make her out-rade you. She may end up zoning you out of a lot of CS.
  • Annies Q has a lot of range so she can harass you under tower for free, be careful when last-hitting under tower.
  • 3102.png [7.9] New banshees is a good idea if Annie is fed or if you don't want her stunning you in teamfights.
  • She's very immobile so you can gank her easily. Try to get her when her stun is down.
  • Annies love to flash so don't bother getting close to her if you're not high on health, she'll most likely go for it. Time stamp it so you and your ADC know when to keep your distance.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Disclaimer: Riot managed to make a space dragon a boring character so i barely ever play against him so I'm not super experienced in this matchup
  •  Aurelion Sol is bad at close range and immobile. Rushing protobelt helps you kill him easy.
  • Some ASols push lane really hard and roam, try to get ganks if he does this.
  • Melee harassing is a good idea if you can play around his aurelionsolw.png W. If you're not confident in your ability to do this just stick with Q.
  • ASols love to roam, so make sure you MIA and ward bot river.

VS

Azir

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Azir will poke you down, but he won't kill you. This lane is going to be 90% farming. Only harass when it's safe and won't affect CS.
  • He'll poke you down and zone you out of CS.
  • It'll be hard to kill him cuz he can wall you off, so try to bait his ultimate first.
  • If Azir initiates on you and you aren't super low, you can usually just kill him.
  • if you do want to kill him, try waiting until he has two marks of the storm on him so that a) you can chase him and make him wall early so you can force him out of lane/engage on him in a few seconds, or b) chain stun him before he can ult and kill him that way

VS

Brand

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Getting 3157.png Zhonya's will help you avoid his passive/ult burst.
  • Dodging your W will help you survive this lane much easier.
  • If his W is down, you can hit him with an empowered auto and outtrade his E.
  • When you hit 6, try killing him after he uses W. If he still has W you can still kill him but you need to dodge his Q stun.
  • Be careful ulting him near your minions because they can fuck you.
  • Once you get Protobelt be super aggressive and try to all in as soon as his W is down.

VS

Camille

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png/kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
first item:1055.png2003.png
  • Camille has been nerfed into the ground so this matchup is a lot easier
  • She is easy to harass, but be careful going into auto range of her, as she can camillew.png scissor kick you with her thicc legs
  • If you dodge her camillee.png hookshot, you will usually outtrade.
  • If she gets phage and boots, she'll W + Q you for tons of damage, so be careful
  • If her passive is up, try not to all-in her. Bait it out first.
  • DON'T dive her alone if her ult and shield are up
  • Thiccness sets up ganks really well, so make sure you ward and avoid ganks.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1001.png/1054.png2003.png
  • Cass has TONS of range and damage so just focus on farming as best as you can with Q while avoiding her abilities.
  • Harass isn't super important because she can sustain with her E, but it's okay if it doesn't sacrifice any CS.
  • Your best option to kill her is getting ganks early since she's immobile.
  • Once she hits 6, be careful to not get stunned. There isn't a whole lot you can do aside from predicting and avoiding it. One thing that does help is stunning right before you proto+ult her so she can't stun you first.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • [PATCH 7.17] Ban Cho'gath.
  • [PATCH 7.19] Nvm don't ban Cho'Gath.
  • This matchup is obnoxious because he'll heal up your harass with his passive
  • If you get in auto range he can silence + Q + E you so be careful.
  • 3151.png is a great buy since he stacks health.
  • The issue with him comes later in game, if you engage on him he can ult you for like 60+% of your healh instantly and leave you very vulnerable. If you can get someone else to engage first, do that.

VS

Corki

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • Corki will outtrade you if you just approach with autos, but you'll do lots of damage if you combo with abilities.
  • It's a volatile matchup damage-wise, but he's still a squishy ADC so getting 3020.png 3136.png penetration makes you do a lot more damage.
  • Much like other slippery laners, Corki is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to solo kill, so try to chain your stuns so he cannot make his getaway. First widdle him down, then try to sneak in a stun, then protobelt engage with everything you have to kill him. You can also try baiting out his W.

VS

Darius

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png/kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Darius is a scary lane, as the smallest mistake can end up in your death.
  • Your auto range is ~50 away from his pull range, so its risky to auto harass after he hits 3. Harass him early and then be very careful past that point.
  • If you want to auto harass him without risking a pull, make sure he has two kennenpassive.png stacks on him so you can stun him before he can dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png W you.
  • You can bait his pull as well, but this is completely up to your opponent
  • Maxing Q is safer, maxing W gets better at level 9 because you can permastun.
  • Getting good at kiting is important in this lane, buy 3116.png if you're worried about it.
  • Often times Darius takes 3111.png + 3044.png and go speedy fast. This can be alleviated by building early sorc boots.
  • If you're super worried about this matchup, play passive. He can only mess you up if you play aggressive. However, you should learn to play aggressive in this lane at some point because you do have the advantage.

VS

Diana

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start:1055.png2003.png
  • Diana is similar to Akali imo, so you can fight against her similarly
  • Pre-6, harass as much as you can while dodging her Q.
  • Don't walk into her E range, if you do I don't know how I can help you
  • Post 6, play cautiously, as Diana then gains kill potential on you. Just get protobelt, farm safe while poking her with Q, and you shouldn't die.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Mundo is easy pre - 6, but a bit difficult to deal with post - 6.
  • All you have to do in this lane is harass with auto's and dodge his cleavers.
  • He has to peak from his minions wave to hit you with cleavers, so Q max is okay, but I think W max is more consistent.
  • Post - 6 you won't be able to kill him in all likelihood, so focus on farming. If he decides to pop ult and go aggro on you, don't fight back, he will sustain through all your damage. Fall back to turret and try your best to dodge his abilities, popping ult if you have to.

VS

Ekko

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start:1055.png2003.png
  • He'll usually shove the first few waves so focus on farming at level 1.
  • If Ekko runs at you, Q + W him and then E away. As long as he can't get his passive off, you will win the trade. Often times you can cancel your E outside his auto range and auto him to get off your thunderlords proc.
  • Harass him with autos and abilities as much as you can pre-6 as long as your E is up.
  • You should never get hit with his W stun. Be cautious when you don't see him in lane, he might be hiding. Keep your E up at all times unless you know for sure he isn't in lane.
  • Once he hits 6, you can kill him, but you need to get his health low (less then 40%, depending) and chain stun him before he is able to ult away.

VS

Fiora

Easy
skill order:kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/
start:1055.png2003.png
  • I like to max W because Fiora can leap away from your Q.
  • Before you hit 3, this matchup is a bit hard, but once you hit 3 its in your favor.
  • Harass her as much as possible but avoid getting lunged too often.
  • Try to bait her into using her ult, and then run away. Even if you have to ult to get her off of you, you will still end up being able to stay in lane and harass her, because she shouldn't be able to kill you without her ult. Just make sure she doesn't riposte your stun. while you're fleeing.
  • NEVER fight her within her heal.
  • Similar to Darius, she likes to take 3111.png + 3044.png, so take sorc boots if this happens.
  • Permastuns combined with 3151.png Liandry's works great.

VS

Fizz

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png/kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Early on in lane, you can harass him quite heavily with autos
  • Be careful when approaching fizz to auto him. he can q + w you, and then will generally e on you and walk away. as soon as he dashes on you, e away and prevent him from doing this.
  • If fizz is walking towards you, wait till after he either uses e or starts walking back to use your Q, or else he will hop over it.
  • I like Q max because going in auto range is too dangerous post-6.
  • As soon as he hits 6, stay as far away from him as possible. learn to see his ultimate (theres a little aura around him when he uses it) and as soon as he uses it, use e and dodge left or right.
  • 3020.png Sorc shoes helps you dodge his ultimate, i recommend getting it on one of your first backs.
  • 3157.png Zhonya's is good for cancelling his ult damage, but you cant build it early enough usually
  • Wait until his E is down before you ult unless he's stunned, or he can just jump out of it.

VS

Galio

Medium
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Despite what hauntzer may make you think, this lane isn't that hard
  • He will hard push with Q so only harass when it doesn't hurt your CS.
  • The more you avoid his Q, the longer you will stay in lane.
  • His shield makes it hard to do damage, and autoing is too dangerous because of his Q, but don't feel discouraged because you will outscale him.
  • Autoing or Q'ing him once every few seconds helps keeps his passive form coming back up. It's up every 12 seconds. Just don't play too aggro to get it, or you might end up taking damage from him or getting minion aggro.

VS

Gangplank

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Try to wait for him to use his Q for farm before harassing with autos
  • If he uses Q a lot to harass you its not the end of the world, just don't auto harass as much.
  • Q max is better because he can barrel you if you go in for a W.
  • Theres no way to consistently dodge his barrels, but try your best to bait them out and dodge with kennenlightningrush.png E.
  • Once you hit 6, avoid going all in unless you've baited out his W. One of my favorite ways to do this is to catch him off guard with a Q to finish a stun, then go in with ult as soon as he uses his W to escape. Generally you will burn summoners or catch him fast enough to kill him.

VS

Garen

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png / kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png(he literally has to run at you to do damage so you hit him with Q's so easy)
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • He can't do anything against you without running right at you, so Q max is a good idea.
  • This lane is super easy to harass. Make sure his passive doesn't come up.
  • W max is also good because you can permastun, it's up to you.
  • Make sure to E away from him before he is able to silence you.

VS

Gnar

Easy
skill order:kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • You outrange him so you can trade autos easily, just make sure to dodge his boomerang.
  • It's easy to harass him in mega form since he doesn't have the range.
  • Avoid getting W stacks on you. Kite back with E when he gets two ticks on you.
  • If he builds a mallet, you can counter it with Rylais if it's hurting you.
  • Gnars depend on the player, I've seen some Gnars play really aggressive with E and outtrade me. As long as you avoid his W procs you should be okay.
  • Careful for flash ults in mega form, he can nearly 100 - 0 you.

VS

Gragas

Medium
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • This lane is basically dodging Q. He out sustains most of your auto damage, so I like shield instead.
  • Dodge Q from left or right, not walking backwards.
  • He can't really use his other abilities offensively, but he might use them to outsustain you, which can force you out of lane. If you find him ahead, stay back for a bit and farm.
  • BE AWARE of flash E, he will use it especially if you're getting ganked. If he starts to E far away from you, he's most likely doing it. Flash just before it lands.

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • This is a farm lane, focus on CS and killing turrets.
  • Only harass when with Q when he has no turrets and it won't compromise CS.
  • Don't get ganks from your jungler unless the situation is like perfect. Ask him to focus other lanes so he cant turn around a 2v1 situation.
  • Don't all in him if he gets Zhonya's, as he will nullify your entire ultimate and put you in a bad place in his turrets.

VS

Illaoi

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • This lane revolves around dodging her Q while harassing with autos
  • Because of her built in sustain, it might be hard early on in lane and she may outsustain you, but she can't kill you and it gets easier as the game goes on
  • Avoid her E at all costs by using E when she casts it and strafing.
  • If she misses her E, you can all-in and kill her if shes low. She needs to land it for her ult to work.

VS

Irelia

Hard
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png/kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • This is one of Kennen's most notoriously difficult lanes.
  • Early on you can harass her with autos, but after level 5 she becomes a little harder/riskier to trade against with autos.
  • Once she hits six, you should probably stick to poking her down until you can kill her with ult. She can regain a lot of health with her ult, so try to burst her down while she is stunned so you can kill her before she gets it off.
  • After she builds a few tri force items, she becomes incredibly difficult to fight against, and she can outtrade you easily. Stick to using Q's to harass her.
  • Once she gets Mercs and Triforce, she can blow you up at any point in lane if you misposition. The only time you should aim to kill her is if she's very low or behind.
  • The safest route is 3136.png > 1001.png > 3151.png> 3020.png > 3191.png. Irelia has naturally high MR so guise and sorc boots are incredibly helpful in allowing you to trade with her early game. Also, despite the fact she is an AD bruiser, she has a considerable amount of true and magic damage in her kit early on, so the health from guise and protobelt are enough early on. She does more AD damage from the items she builds, so it's a better choice later in the game.
  • 3191.png Seekers should be built immediately if she gains a lead, or as soon as you feel she is too hard to trade against.
  • If she is behind or you're confident and trading well against her, 3145.png revolver can be built early, and 3191.png seekers can be delayed.
  • This lane involves a lot of minion management, so make sure not to stand near your low health minions so she cannot jump to you.
  • The best way to deal with Irelia jumping on you is by always having two marks of the storm on her. The general way to trade against her is to Q her when she jumps to minions. You can bait her by standing just in Q range of a minion so that when she tries to jump on you, you can Q + W her if you're fast enough. If you have two stacks on her, you can simply E when she jumps to you and rush away.
  • Irelia sets up ganks incredibly well and is a great towerdiver, so make sure you ward well and get counterganks if you think her and her jungler will dive you soon.
  • If you're feeling disheartened, it's okay. Irelia has undoubtedly one of the strongest mid games in the game, so she will be hell for a while, but just know that you can always just farm safe, and you will also outscale her later.

VS

Janna

Hard

this is just here to remind you to ban this stinky smelly champion so you don't lose the game and that janna mains are dorks

reapthewhirlwind.pngWreapthewhirlwind.png

VS

Jarvan IV

Hard
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • Its incredibly hard to deal with Jarvan post 6, and he can be annoying pre-6 as well.
  • Harass him with autos as much as you can during the first three or so levels. Past 4 be cautious.
  • Max Q in this lane. W max does more damage early on but after 6 you'll be screwed unless you're really ahead.
  • Make sure to dodge his E + Q combo. As soon as he drops the flag, E away.
  • After he hits 4 - 5, try not to get poked down by his Q. It isn't easy to dodge, so avoid attacking him too heavily if its up.
  • 3191.png Seekers should always be first item, and 3136.png guise is a good second item.
  • As soon as he hits level 6, stay back and farm. If he builds AD, he will all-in you, and if he builds tank, you wont be able to damage him very much in lane. Don't attempt to fight him unless you widdle him down very significantly.
  • He sets up ganks very well so always ward.

VS

Jax

Easy
  • Auto harass him as often as you can up to level 3.
  • Avoid his E like the plague. Never get close to him if you don't have your E up. If he E's or jumps in after you, immediately E away and stay on the outskirts of his stun so you can auto him a few times afterwards while he runs back to his minions.
  • Jax is similar to Fiora in that he's very risky to all in and kill, but its much easier to keep him at bay. Generally 30% health is a safe level of health to kill him at, but this depends on a couple different conditions.
  • Since its important to dodge his E, make sure to get early 3020.png. This helps with his resistances as well.

VS

Jayce

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Max Q, farm from a distance, and poke once he hits three. Never auto harass unless his Q is down.
  • Predict + dodge his E + Q combo with your E. Standing behind minions can help negate it.
  • Don't get close to him or he will outtrade you in melee form. Only poke with Q + W.
  • Avoid going in until hes fairly low. Try to stun him before you ult so he cant knock you back while you ult.
  • He'll try to E + Q from bushes so ward top side bush and be careful when approaching your side bush.

VS

Karma

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png

VS

Karthus

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Karthus is deceptively strong imo, so play the lane somewhat safe.
  • Auto harass is safe if you can dodge Q but don't step into his E.
  • Poke him down with Q + W. Be careful if you use E to kill him because he can kill you after with his passive.
  • You can usually proto + ult him early on if hes not full health. Just make sure he cant kill you with his ult afterwards.
  • Building 3157.png makes him much less of a threat.
  • If Zhonya's is down and he ults you when you're low, USE YOUR kennenlightningrush.png LIGHTNING RUSH! The extra resistances may save your life. I've actually survived off the ten extra MR before. It's better than nothing.

VS

Kassadin

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Mastering this lane takes lots of practice, and require you to play around his shield.
  • Ideally, you want to poke him with Q's when he's up near the wave, or when he's walking away JUST after the shield wears off. Learn the timing so you land it perfectly.
  • Don't proc thunderlords while his shield is up.
  • Don't be encouraged to trade autos. The key to beating his shield isn't physical damage, it's just using your magic damage wisely.
  • Don't tank too many Q's or you'll fall behind. if he starts widdling you down, fall back and poke him more safely.
  • Rush 3151.png, revolver will just get tanked by his shield if you walk up to auto him, and he also builds RoA.
  • Once he hits 6, sit back and farm. Try to keep him in lane so he doesn't roam. His waveclear is poor.

VS

Katarina

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Auto her as much as possible until level 3. Past that point try to do it when her Q is down. Once she backs don't auto harass anymore.
  • Play around her dagger placements. Don't stand near them.
  • If she E's to you, Q + W + E her for the stun and back off easy.
  • Your stuns make it impossible for her to kill you early on, so you can kill her easy when shes low.
  • Once she builds 3146.png stick to poking her with Q when safe, she'll be deceptively bursty.
  • She'll be forced to roam to get kills, so always ward and MIA.

VS

Kayle

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Don't stand near your minions or you will tank splash damage.
  • Poke her down and only auto her if her E is down.
  • Once she hits 6, make sure not to take too much damage or she will push you back to turret and dive you. Every time she W's herself, back off with your E so she doesn't Q you.

VS

Kled

Easy
  • Harass hard level 1, back off after level 2, then play aggressively again @ level 3.
  • The key to dominating this lane is laying on the aggression while avoiding his E + Q combo. His E has the range of your autos, so if your reaction time is good enough, you should be able to E and kite backwards as soon as he uses it and avoid it completely. Should he land it, your E will mark him, and you can Q + W him for the stun and try to get away.
  • W max is riskier early on but once you're 9 you can permastun and play super aggro.
  • Like Jax, don't get close if your E is down.
  • Don't let him hit six before you and catch you off guard. Be careful when you're about to hit 6, cuz he will too.
  • Once he's unmounted, don't get close to him. Kite with him back to his tower.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Another super volatile matchup, can go very good or very bad.
  • With her new revolver + sheen build, shes easy to kill if you catch her out of position, but she also deals TONS of damage.
  • The key to winning this lane is by dodging her E like the plague. As soon as she jumps to you and has a clear shot, E away left or right so it doesn't hit you. Works best if you can duck behind a minion.
  • When she W's to you, its a free opportunity to Q + W.
  • If she double jumps to you, E perpendicular to the two distortion pads, and attempt to sidestep the E. Punish her when shes on cooldown.
  • Another champion who roams well so MIA and ward.

VS

Lissandra

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png/kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start: 1055.png2003.png
  • Avoid getting hit by Q's and farm, she's hard to kill without ganks.
  • Her abilities are all close range but they strike through minions so don't auto her.
  • Because of how safe a laner she is, you most likely won't kill her, so you usually want to widdle her down more than normal so she can't heal herself with her ult. She should be no more then ~30% health when you all in her.
  • She doesn't have much kill potential on you but she sets up ganks REALLY, so make sure you ward.
  • Build 3102.png if you're getting focused by her ult very hard.

VS

Lucian

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Don't attempt to trade autos with Lucian.
  • Focus on not getting poked down with his abilities and autos.
  • If he E's to you, E away so he can't get his passive off.
  • Focus on farming early, you probably won't kill him unless he walks into your abilities.
  • Once you get 3145.png and 3020.png, you can play more aggressive for kills.

VS

Lulu

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png
  • no one plays this mid/top anymore ): dont get poked by Q and u win

VS

Lux

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start:1054.png 2003.png
  • Lux's only strong suit is her ability to poke you in lane.
  • If you dodge her abilities you win. MS quints and early Sorc boots help a lot.
  • Rush protobelt and play aggressive when her stun is down. If you wanna engage you have to sidestep it which is pretty hard.

VS

Malphite

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Fairly easy matchup. Auto harass often.
  • Try to Q him when he goes in to last hit. Also, If he Q's you, you can E + W + Q him aggressively and then dip out. If he follows you during this time don't kite with autos cuz your attack speed is lowered.
  • Auto him every once in a while if he sits behind so he cant get his shield up.
  • If he widdles you down with Q you can sit back and Q poke + farm.
  • He sets up ganks well and its his only chance to kill you, so avoid ganks!

VS

Malzahar

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • Weird lane, try your best to farm against him as he usually pushes lane.
  • Auto harass to get the shield down once his E is down. Poking it with Q is a waste most of the time.
  • 3152.png Protobelt rush is super important. To all-in him after 6, first take down his shield from afar, then you want to ult + protobelt just outside his ult range (700), which will result in his ult being cancelled if he casts it early. He will have to wait until your ult is completely over if he wants to use his. If you don't know this range by heart, use practice tool.

VS

Maokai

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • haven't played this since the rework cuz hes usually banned/jungling
  • In general this matchup is pretty annoying because of his sustain. Harass him as much as you can
  • Its safer to auto when his Q is down as it outranges you.
  • Max Q because he can twisted advance your W passive.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Haven't played much, but the key seems to be not getting poked by his E while laying down harass.
  • Don't get close to him, his Q HURTS.
  • When you ult him, keep him on the edge of your ult so he isn't in range to Q you.

VS

Morgana

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Not much to say, this lane is a matter of dodging her Q and not sitting in her W.
  • Her only chance of killing you is if she ults you to slow you and then Q's you. Just try your best to predict when she's going to Q and dodge with E.

VS

Nasus

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png/kennenbringthelight.png > kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Harass him and zone him as much as possible. I like Q max better because it has a higher damage output to cut through his sustain.
  • This matchup is a bit of a ticking time bomb, and he may be able to solo kill you later in the game even if you're ahead. Shut him down early and roam for your team before he scales.
  • When ulting, keep on on the edge of your ult and kite away from him when his ult is up so he doesn't murder you with Q's.

VS

Nidalee

Easy

VS

Olaf

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Even though it's a melee matchup, a good Olaf will cut you down with axes and make it dangerous to approach. Be cautious when harassing with autos.
  • Don't get close to him level 1 and get your E level 2 so you can't get run down by axes.
  • Poke with Q and avoid getting axed and you should be fine.
  • Should he dive you, circle around your tower like an idiot and avoid getting hit by his E's or autos.

VS

Orianna

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • Farm safely while avoiding her ball, Q harass when safe. That's pretty much it.
  • The key to this lane is surviving. Rush 3152.png + 3020.png, catch her out with a stun or when her shield is down, and you should be able to 100 - 0 her.

VS

Ornn

Easy
i think you just avoid getting near his pillar but lets be honest WHOM the fuck actually plays this boy

VS

VS

Poppy

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png + kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png + kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Auto harass as much as you can while avoiding walls do she cant stun you.
  • Harass her as she moves towards her shield.
  • If she gets too tanky, be careful as she may outtrade you.

VS

Quinn

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Farm up, don't trade autos, and don't get lunged on. Early 3191.png Seekers is good.
  • If she uses Q while you're near minions, kite backwards. If not, dodge left or right.
  • Make sure she can't roam around and steal kills. Be careful is shes out of lane cuz she might ult to you while you're pushed up and kill you if shes able to.

VS

Renekton

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png > kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Auto harass early on, be careful with it past level 3.
  • Q max is better for damage, W max is better at level 9, much like Kled.
  • His only way of engaging on you is running right into you. E away and Q + W while hes dashing towards you to avoid getting stunned.
  • The best way to make his engages useless against you is by delaying stacks as long as you can, leaving him at 1 or 2 stacks as long as you can, so that you can easily stun him whenever he gets close to you.
  • Don't get baited once he hits 6, the extra health can really throw you off, and keep out of his AoE if you can.

VS

Rengar

Easy

VS

Riven

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png>kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • This is a skill matchup. I feel like all Riven players are different, so try to adapt.
  • Harass with autos early in lane. Once she hit's three, be wary of her combo.
  • Weave in Q + Ws and autos, and try to bait out her gapcloser. E away as soon as she uses it so she cannot combo you.
  • Once she hits 6, I generally advise against using autos to harass her. At this point it becomes a matter of widdling her down carefully, engaging when she is low enough, and not getting flash engaged.
  • 3191.png Seekers will help you out against her all-in.

VS

Rumble

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png + kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Auto harassing isn't advised because of his Q range.
  • Don't sit in his Q, don't get poked out by his E, and try not to get zoned.
  • Try to slowly poke him down with Q + W until he is low enough to ult.

VS

Ryze

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Farm safely and poke with Q when safe.
  • If you avoid his Q and don't get into his rune prison, it's a pretty easy lane to survive.
  • Keep track of his runes so he doesn't speed up with his Q passive and W you.
  • Avoid getting near minions marked with spell flux so it doesn't spread to you.
  • He can be almost impossible to kill if his rune prison is up, so avoid all-ins if its up.

VS

Shen

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png>kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start:1055.png2003.png
  • Harass with autos as much as possible, just not when his shield is up.
  • The only way you can fuck up this lane is by getting taunted. Don't get any closer than your max auto range and this won't happen. If he casts it just E and dodge to the side. Play aggressive as you can.
  • If he ults, stun him so it won't go through.

VS

Singed

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Generally he will proxy a wave, which means his creeps will go directly towards tower. Meet them before they hit tower. Kite back to tower while hitting all melee minions just once. Once they reach tower, do the same with the caster creeps, last hitting the melee minions as well. Doing this correctly nets you all six minions.
  • Once this Facebook mom stops fucking playing Farmville and comes back to lane, you can harass the crap out of him without getting punished for it. Just E back when he W's you so he cant flip you into his Q.
  • 3151.png Is so good against him.

VS

Sion

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Harass him with autos early on.
  • His E can be annoying to deal with, so try to space it so he can't pelt minions at you.
  • If he charges his Q over you, just E away.
  • Be careful walking near bushes so he cant CC chain and kill you.
  • He often has to walk right at you to kill you so landing Q's is easy

VS

Swain

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
  • Really boring matchup. Don't bother getting close to him, his abilities have lots of range.
  • E out of his W and don't sit and soak up his Q damage.
  • You may be able to kill him early on if you poke him enough, but past 6 you won't kill him unless he runs out of mana.

VS

Syndra

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • Syndra is another champ with tons of range and poke and can be annoying. MS quints will help against her.
  • Try your best to avoid her poke and sidestep her stun. If you aren't behind a ball, it doesn't necessarily mean you're safe.
  • Farm with Q, sacrifice CS if you have to as long as you stay in lane longer.
  • If she at any time misses her E once you're level 6, it's time to protobelt + ult in.
  • You can't really engage her when her E is up, so you get extra style point if you flash her E to engage.
  • 3157.png Zhonya's is generally better than 3102.png Banshee's, as you can void her entire ultimate.

VS

Taliyah

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Taliyah is a pain early on. Try your best to farm if she shoves in.
  • Stick to poking with Q, and be careful when getting too close, as her combo REALLY hurts.
  • Her knockback and slow make it hard to engage against her, so either bait it out or flash over it to kill her.
  • She's really fast with ghost, her passive, and stormraiders, so don't waste your ult and let her run away.
  • She roams very well, so remember to ward and MIA.

VS

Talon

Easy
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Treat him as a ranged character, as his W does a LOT of damage, and you don't want to get hit by his Q.
  • Farm and look for opportunities to poke.
  • 3191.png Seekers is SUPER important because no matter how safe you play, his parkour + ult combo can sometimes be unpredictable.
  • If he builds lethality over hexdrinker, you can generally blow him up once you get 3145.png.
  • In fights, if he focuses your ADC, waste ult on him. They will be down a mid laner and your ADC will survive, so it's usually worth it.

VS

Teemo

Easy
teemo? teembles? teemumbles? teemumlers? teemlr?
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png2003.png
  • Be careful and don't get cheesed level 1 by his invisibility
  • All you really have to do is not get into his Q/melee range while farming while trying to poke him down.
  • His blinds will cancel your W so don't attempt to harass him with autos
  • Rush 3152.png and engage on him as soon as you hit 6, you can pretty much 100 - 0 him every time depending on what he builds.

VS

Trundle

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png > kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Harass super aggressively in this lane. The only way you can really screw this up is if he gets a good pillar, so just stay away from walls.
  • If he rushes towards you, just Q + W passive/active or Q + W + E away.
  • The only other time he can solo you is if you mess up your engage during his ult. He has deceptive amounts of sustain and tankiness with his ult, so try stunning him before ulting him, or just wait till he is SUPER low.

VS

Tryndamere

Easy
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png > kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png/kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • Lay on the harass as hard as possible. He cannot retaliate against you.
  • His only way of engaging is with W + E. Since he runs right at you, you can easily Q + W + E away and get to safety.
  • If he starts stacking crit, you may want to build Zhonya's early so he can't dive you.
  • I like to use my ult early to bait out his ult. If this happens, he's forced to back or I'll just get a kill without it. Just make sure you have your E to escape once he ults, unless you're like full health.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Pretty annoying, you have to play around his pick a card.
  • If his W is up, stick to poking with Q. As soon as its down you can start playing more aggressively.
  • Rushing 3152.png and playing super aggressive when his stun is down is a really good way to punish his immobility. Kill him before he gets the chance to roam.
  • Speaking of roaming, be sure to MIA when he leaves lane, and ping warning the direction you saw him go.

VS

Udyr

Easy

this isn't a thing anymore but i can't delete it lolking fix your formatting thanks :)

VS

Veigar

Hard
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
  • Veigar is really annoying because of his event horizon. I usually build 3111.png, which cuts his stun time down to a second for most of the game cuz he maxes it last.
  • Play aggressively once he Q's. Punish him for picking a squishy champ.
  • If he wastes his E at any point, kill him for it.
  • Overall, just be careful not to get to close if he can trap you in his E.
  • 3157.png Zhonya's can negate his ult late game. Just avoid mispositioning yourself late game and you'll be fine.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Learning to dodge his skillshots is key to winning the lane.
  • It's easy to hit Your Q's when he Q's because he has to peak from minions usually.
  • Make sure to walk out of his W so you don't take damage from it twice.
  • Be careful when you all-in him, he can E you and ruin your engage. However, I feel like its easier to sidestep than other CC skillshots, so you don't have to wait until its down.

VS

Viktor

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Avoid getting hit by his E poke as best as you can.
  • When he Q's, back off so he can't run up and hit you with the enhanced auto.
  • There isn't much you can do about him early, but you can rush 3152.png Protobelt and nuke him easily. If he uses W while you're kennenlightningrush.png rushing towards him you can protobelt out of it before it stuns you and kill him. Its best to wait until one of his damaging abilities is down to do this so nothing goes wrong.

VS

Vladimir

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png/1083.png 2003.png
  • Kind of a bring matchup. His abilities are very close range so he won't hurt you, but he can sustain most of your poke damage.
  • Don't let him get his empowered Q on you. It's easy to keep track of and doesn't last long so just back up for a little bit.
  • The biggest issue is with all-ins. Even if you stun him before going in, your ult cant chain stun fast enough to prevent him from pooling out, and you end up wasting 2/3 of your ult. The best way of dealing with this in lane is baiting it out or getting a gank, and the best way of dealing with it late game is waiting for someone else to CC him first.

VS

Wukong

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Don't auto harass him unless his E is on cooldown.
  • In general, just poke with Q + W. If he manages to E to you, Q + W + E him away.
  • He does a lot of damage, but he'll be fairly squishy if he builds lethality.
  • Like other matchups, 3191.png Seekers and 3145.png Revolver is usually enough to burst him down.
  • haha wukong funny monkey :)

VS

Yasuo

Medium
skill order: kennenbringthelight.png > kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png
start: 1055.png 2003.png
  • I like to get kennenlightningrush.png second because it prevents Yasuo from jumping on me.
  • Much like against Jax, you want to avoid getting close to him unless you have your E up. You are for the most part free to harass him as much as you want.
  • Try to proc his shield whenever you can.
  • Yasuo has a lot of outplay potential, so it's hard to give specific advice on this matchup, but you want to focus on harassing him when safe, and keeping your E up and stunning him when he gets too close.
  • 3191.png Seekers will always help because Yasuo will unavoidably get some damage on you at some point in lane.

VS

Yorick

Medium
skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Okay so to be fair no one plays this guy so I'm going off one game which ended in a remake
  • He's another melee champ with a lot of range to his damage. Auto harass when his E is down, otherwise sit back and farm.
  • His W has a one second delay, which should give you time to  E out of it.

VS

Zed

Medium
 skill order: kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png > kennenbringthelight.png
start: 1054.png 2003.png
  • Auto harass for the first two levels, then avoid doing it unless his W is down, along with his Q unless you can dodge it.
  • This lane mostly involves avoiding poke and sustaining so he cant kill you with his ult when towerdiving. I like to take Spell Vamp quints in this matchup, as it helps me keep my health up.
  • Try to avoid his shadow so you don't tank E damage.
  • It's very difficult to dodge his W + E + Q combo and there's no direct, consistent way to dodge it. It just takes reaction times and practice. You can always use your E to dodge it, as his W is on a very high cooldown.
  • 3157.png Rush Zhonya's first unless he is super far behind, but always get seekers.
  • The key so doing well is surviving his first couple ultimate before getting Zhonya's. Here's a terrible diagram to help you out!

  • oh my fucking LORD is this champions unbalanced. Good luck trying to consistently master this matchup considering its 90% RNG!
  • In lane, its really a matter of not getting cheesed by her E, and learning to dodge her zoeq.png paddle star when she casts it. Its pretty obvious when she goes for a paddle star since she has to cast it twice, so E in advance to dodge it easier.
  • Hiding behind minions helps you escape her zoee.png bubble..... somewhat.
  • I've only seen her go through once unbanned so I don't have enough experience to say anything else. Just ban this disgusting jailbait and be done with it.

Why 2 Kennen, How 2 Kennen Back to Top

Why play Kennen?

Kennen is a super versatile and funchampion to play. He has the burst of a traditional mage, the tankiness of a bruiser, is an amazing teamfighter, an excellent kiter, is great in 1v1's, can be played in any lane, and can even be built AD. He may seem boring at first, but when mastered he has a lot of outplay potential and micromanagement worked into his kit, and landing a game-winning ultimate is the MOST satisfying thing in the game. His pick/ban rate remains relatively low because he's a cute lil squirrel that dudes cant use as overcompensation to feel like hefty trucker dads, so he's a great option for one tricks. There's very little not to love about this champion

Pros:

  • Versatile play style and builds
  • Amazing teamfighter
  • Excellent at kiting
  • A good lane bully, has few difficult/no unwinnable matchups
  • Amazing TP gank/roam potential for snowballing other lanes
  • Sorta tanky like a bruiser, still has insanely high damage output.
  • Flash ults can instantly win games
  • cute soft boy whomst i love

Cons:

  • Pretty bad 1v2 and gank-prone
  • Item dependent
  • Ult reliant, wasting ult at an important time can throw a game
  • Easily shut down by CC
  • Poor initiator without flash or a tank
  • Pretty flash dependent
  • Poor waveclear early, waveclear require you to waste your escape + damage
  • Bad at splitpushing unless you go AD
  • Team reliant so if your team tilts and argues its hard to win

179.pngHow to Play AP Top + Mid

127.jpg

Early Game/Laning Phase

First things first, get your bearings strait. How difficult is the matchup you're in? What should you max? What should you buy? Do your laner + jungler synergize well? Try to think about what you do before you do it. If you're unfamiliar, try checking out the matchups for tips.

Against most melee laners, you want to play aggressive with autos early on, and depending on how difficult the matchup is, you'll either continue or back off the harass as the lane continues.  Depending on who you're against and their jungler, you might want to freeze lane. For the most part, lay on the harass while remaining as safe as possible. If you take Stormraiders, you can use E aggressively to proc it and get away (don't do this if your enemy has a way of negating it). If you have Tlords, I advise saving your E for escaping OR for going in to W and finish a stun and back off in melee lanes, as using it aggressively without ult will generally end up getting you outtraded, and it leaves you vulnerable to ganks. The exception is if they're very low and you're kiting back with them to kill them before they reach their tower. Once you hit level 6, most melee matchups are a matter of widdling down your opponents low enough to ult them to death. This is dependent on the matchup and on experience, so don't do anything risky, but most tanks + bruisers will be deceptively hard to take down.

Against most ranged laners, play a bit safer early game. Quite a lot, but not all ranged enemies will generally outtrade you early on. It's a matter of farming and attempting a Q poke if possible. Try to hit level 2 before the enemy, see if you can Q + W them at level 1, as they'll be hit harder. If the enemy laner has a lot of waveclear, skip the aggression and make sure you get those creeps. Past level 3, it becomes a lot more matchup dependent. Focus on farming in difficult lanes, but always try to poke if the opening presents itself. You can use your E aggressively in some ranged matchups as well. For example, if you finish a stun, you can gapclose and hit them with E, kite back with them to their tower, and possible gain a kill or flash. Once you get ult, you can 100 - 0 almost any ranged enemy with ult if you get a stun off and they're relatively low. Play aggressively with flash and try to put them behind so they don't continue to push lane or keep a gold lead on you.

Look for gank opportunities. If you're running top with TP, ask for a ward in the bush on the enemies side so you can flank TP. Don't be afraid to TP gank mid if the opportunity presents itself. If you're goin mid, make sure to pink the mid/bot side push, and maybe ask for a red trinket so your jungler can limit vision on the path down. You can do the same for top too. Try to wait until they're pushed up and your ganks will be more successful.

Trading in lane: there's no 'correct' way to trade with Kennen imo. In general, you should just look for opportunities to Q + W when they misposition, and look for W passive autos when their abilities are on cooldown or when its safe. However, there does come time for strategy. For example, if you hold off on using W after hitting them with a Q, they make back off of their CS and experience. If you hold it off and they don't back off, you can W to refresh your passive's cooldown and then snipe them with another Q or W passive to finish a stun. Sometimes your opponent might not back off with two stacks if they know your W is down. This is your opportunity to catch them out of position and finish the stun with a well timed Q. As noted before, you can sometimes use your E aggressively in ranged matchups if it lets you heavily outtrade them or execute them. You can do the same in melee matchups if they're low and you're doing it to kite back and finish them off before they get back to tower. Once you get your ultimate, if you're waiting to land a stun before going in, try to finish of the stun with the ability you are maxing so that you will have it up again when you all-in. That maximizes your damage output.

Escaping ganks: This is dependent on the enemy jungler and sometimes your laner. If it's someone who has hard CC, distance yourself from them while walking to tower. Save your E until after the CC is used, or your escape will jsut be wasted. Try to combo the E with your other abilities to finish off your stun and ZOOM ZOOM to safety. Against junglers with damage or slows, try to Q + W them while they're closing in on you and then E them once they touch you to zip away safely. The best way to avoid ganks is warding. With good vision, most ganks are avoidable/escapable with E with no confrontation.

Look out for shields! This goes for pretty much every champion, but don't proc thunderlords, hextech revolver, or waste abilities on shielded targets. Also, try to bait them out before going in so you can really 100 - 0 them. Shields are a huge Kennen counter.

Mid Game

This is where you're at a crossroads. Depending on how fed you are and who you're up against, you should be finishing your first few items. At this point, analyze the situation. If your team is ahead, you should stay top and push while letting them do their own thing until you're needed or the enemy team starts scaling. If they're behind, group with them, try to get some good teamfights in around objectives and help them pick up some steam. If you're dealing with a splitpusher at the same time, ask for someone to match them, as you're much more needed in teamfights. If  behind, sit under turret with Zhonya's and try to catch up.

When you're grouping, figure out how to use your ultimate. Most of the time you should flash/proto ult their backline: however, if they have some fed tanks or bruisers or your team is behind, the might shred your team while you do that, and then finish you afterwards. In these cases, its better to just use your ult for peel/disengage so your team can get some gold, and save the flash ults for later.

Remember that you work better as a follow up initiator. If you have an engager on your team, follow in their footsteps after the CC on the enemy team is wasted rather than flashing in yourself.

Late Game

This is where things get interesting, and in most cases, incredibly stressful and fun. This is your time to shine and get that game winning ultimate.

The best way to do this is by waiting for your flash. Communicate your cooldowns with your team and fight around it. If you have a primary initiator, you should usually wait for them. However, if you have no strong initiate or if you spot some carries out of position, go for it. Flash + Ult + Proto + Q their most important carry, and then focus the other one as soon as the first is dead. Save your Zhonya's right before the team starts focusing you or to negate disengage, such as a Janna ultimate, before it hits you.

In some cases, you still should ult more for utility or peel. Save this for when you want to make sure your hyper carry survives by just ulting the targets closest to them. Once the threats are down, you can usually keep going and ace them or take objectives. If the enemy ADC is fed, has tons of peel, and you don't think you can kill them, do something similar by instead focusing the frontline. Try to get the enemy team to waste their peel on the frontline so that your backline can push on and win the fight. A lot of times this is sort of a suicide bomber Kennen and is somewhat risky, but just play towards your win condition.

If your team is still struggling, the best time to do this is by engaging as the enemy team takes Baron, Ancient Dragon, or a turret. They'll all be grouped up, focused on something else, waiting for you to engage. If you have a primary initiator, they might want to go in before you. However, there are those undeniable cases where you get that gut feeling and know you can catch them off guard and turn the tides of the game. Position right, try your best to predict/avoid CC, and go in there.

If you have TP up and are pushing, be extra careful when pushing and make sure you know where the enemy team is at all times. You have to waste your E and W to clear waves, which leaves you a sitting duck for splitpushers. If you don't see them, be cautious near bushes.

REMEMBER to practice flashing over baron/drag pit, take advantage of TP, and use bomb plants to your advantage. Kennen is AMAZING at denying baron and ancient dragon or stealing one for your team.

Support/AD/ADC

127.jpgSupport

Support is pretty straightforward. If you build the standard engage tank route, you engage for your team and peel for your ADC. Thanks to knights vow it's easier to do this at the same time. In lane, poke often and ult aggressively, as your 2v2 is great, especially once you get Knight's vow. Alternatively, should you build AP, you can ult for damage. Your best combos are champs like Ashe or Sivir who have good engage/utility. You do best against tank/melee supports, and you struggle against poke/sustain lanes.

AD Kennen Top

[PATCH 7.13] This is much worse now. It's not dead, but it's definitely somewhere in the gutter right now. I'd say it's situational now.
This turns Kennen into a hyper-aggressive auto attacking lane bully whos primary focus is splitpushing. Your goal is to exert as much pressure on the map as possible and be able to duel your opponent. Early game is much stronger, but falls off late game.

ADC Kennen

[PATCH 7.13] Ditto. ^
Probably his weakest role, but it's doable. Can either build the top build or go crit Kennen. You're a self peeling ADC who uses his abilities defensively rather than engaging.

Why are you like this?

127.jpg

Thanks for asking! I'm Mezz, I'm a Diamond 3 Kennen main, and I'm Kennen's #1 Fan. I've been playing league since the end of season 4. Ever since I started playing, I've always really loved yordles, but I didn't start maining Kennen until the beginning of season 5 when I heard about Ego.

numbah 7.png

Ever since I picked him up and started playing him, I've been in love with him ever since. I love his design, his playstyle, his kit, I honestly can't say anything bad about him other than his shit waveclear. Because of some personal issues I have, It's next to impossible for me to play super mechanically difficult champions, so being able to play Kennen so well is a blessing. I wouldn't be playing this game this long if Kennen weren't in it. My goal is to be the best I can with him, so I've written this guide in dedication to him. Through thick and thin these past few years Kennen has always been there, so I definitely love him lots.

If you're interested in watching me oogle over a squirrel LIVE or you have any questions about Kennen, you can catch me over on Twitch! I stream Monday - Thursday and randomly Friday - Sunday.

Current Thoughts on Kennen [Patch 8.3] Back to Top

Patch 8.3 - R.I.P Unsealed Spellbook. Just when it seemed like Riot was gonna cut Kennen some slack, they throw this nerf at him. His top win rate has dropped significantly. This is very, very sad, and only gives me more excuses to play him mid. With the changes to magical footwear, I find myself taking minion dematerializer now to help with his bad waveclear.

179.png

Top Lane

127.jpg

Top Kennen is in a pretty bad place right now, even worse than when his ult got nerfed a while back. Top lane is in poor shape, the meta revolves almost entirely around bot lane + jungle, and although you have TP, it's too difficult to continuously pressure bot lane when you're on the opposite side of the map. After the kleptomancy nerfs, a few of the Klepto abusers are out of the limelight but there are still very clear cut good/bad champions to take top lane, and you're far from being a good one. Trying to carry as Kennen right now is incredibly difficult. Right now, I try to get an early cheese kill with ignite, take tp as soon as I hit 6 and look for as many bot lane TP gank opportunities as possible, try my best to get as much gold as possible through cull and inspiration to try and gather a lead mid game, take spellbook for more flashes, and pray I can kill the enemy adc through 8 shields. As of Patch 8.3, the Unsealed Spellbook nerf has hit him pretty hard.

179.png

Mid Lane

127.jpg

Mid lane Kennen, ironically, seems to be even better than top Kennen at the moment. Despite your waveclear issues, Kennen persists as an amazing mid lane burst champion who can one shot many mid laners with the introduction of Electrocute. He also excels in ganking bot, so getting your bot lane ahead in a bot lane eccentric meta is incredibly important. I take Electrocute Kennen and try my best to roam bot as much as possible without falling behind too far in CS.

Support Kennen

127.jpg

I haven't played this since the big support item changes, but as soon as I do I'll get this update. Seems like the AP build is much better now after all the meta shifts and ardent nerfs.
