FLASH
4.png

Whether you're flashing away or flashing in, flash is a must. I'll get into details about when you should be using it later in the guide.

TELE

12.png

I use tele almost every game, it fits my play style and it all depends what type of player you are (discussed later in guide). I personally like helping my teammates more than i care about getting a single kill. For example, if you need to help bot lane you have the option where as if you run 14.png you can't gank bot without losing experience and cs back in lane. There is moments where if I ran 14.png it may have been more beneficial for getting a kill. Then again one kill does not seem as beneficial as supporting my team when and where i need to be at any given moment. In addition, it tremendously helps if you need to split push or get back to lane without losing cs.

IGNITE

14.png

Should be used only in occasions where you know you can win lane and get a kill. If you find a match up where you know you can snowball your lane then run it. Otherwise you're taking a risk that it will help more than 12.png. I find a lower elo running this may be better. Group fights are not as consistent and getting kills seems to be a huge priority. As previously said, it may depend one what type of kennen player you are.

EXHAUST

3.png

I personally never used this in game on kennen. However, i have seen other kennen mains run it vs champs that have strong gap closing or strong all in potential such as 238.png or 157.png. To reiterate whats already been said, take into consideration whether this will help you more than another spell. If you're afraid of laning phase this may be a great option. As your skill and confidence with kennen grows you may decide to switch.

New Runes Back to Top

To be honest, i havn't been playing too hot this preseason. With that being said, this is what i find as the best rune page atm. I've tried them all and for my style of play (aggro early, AA a lot, pressure) this has great potential. I've also seen this rune page being used in Korea a lot lately. There are a few things that could be changed. Celerity for Scorch, or nullifying orb if the opponent is AP. Cheapshot, eyeball are also viable. I will officially update this when the new season starts because my opinion may have changed.

EXPLANTION

R - W - Q - E

STUN

Mark of storm length: 6.25 seconds.

Duration: 1.25 seconds. If the stun is applied more than once to the same champion within 7 seconds, it has a diminished effect and only stuns for aprox. 0.5 seconds.

Slicing Maelstrom - R

Range: 550

Cooldown: 120 secodns

Your ultimate is an AOE (area of effect) stun.

Level 6: 6 bolts which can stun 2 opponents.

Level 11: 10 bolts which can stun 3 opponents and mark one. Combined with other abilities you can stun all 5 of the opposing team if done right.

Level 16: 15 bolts which can stun all 5 of the enemy team.

There are important things to keep in mind when ulting. The main thing to focus on should be if you're E is up or if you have enough energy to use it. Using E then ulting helps so much more than just walking in and ulting because you can catch people off guard and your E will put a Mark of storm so it takes less bolts to stun them. Now if you have flash that's a different story. You don't want to flash every time you ult cause you may need it to survive the fight. One thing you should think about is if you flash a wall and ult, or flash into a team fight, are you going to be able to actually ult when you flash in? If they have strong cc you may get stunned, taunted or feared when you flash in, so you may want to ult right before you flash in or over a wall.

Electrical Surge - W

Range:800

Cost: 45 energy

Cooldown: 14/12/10/8/6

After AA'ing 4 of anything (cs, monsters, opponents) your fifth attack adds the mark of storm to which can be applied to anything you can AA. After a mark is applied from Q, E, R, or passive you can W and it proc's an electrical surge which applies another mark of storm. Example, lvl 2 you apply passive+W and either Q or E depending on what you leveled and it will stun them.

I start W because i can passive + W to proc thuderlord decree. I only max this vs champions I can freely Auto attack such as 114.png. If you are losing lane, max Q or if you dont feel safe always max Q.

Thundering Shuriken - Q

Range: 800

Cost: 65/60/55/50/45 energy

Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4

Kennens throws a shurkiken in a straight line which deals 75/115/155/195/235 (+75% ap) to whatever target it hits. This is a great ability to farm or zone your opponent with. If he steps over the minion line, Q to the face. If you are too far to AA a minion you can use your Q to farm safely. If you're laning against a hard match up with strong gap closer such as irelia i recommend maxing Q first.

LIGHTENING RUSH - E

Cost:100/95/90/85/80

Cooldown: 10/9/8/7/6

Length: 2 seconds

The great escape or farming ability. I never max this first, but sometimes second if i need to escape constantly or waveclear. Sometimes at level 2 or even one ill get this first because of the enemy cheesing the first couple levels (wukong or tryndamear) or to escape quickly. Using E then W on farm is a great way to wave clear. But be cautious as this ability uses a lot of energy and has a long cooldown. If your enemy is playing very passive maxing this second could be more beneifical than Q because you can push the wave harder.

Starting Items

If the opponent give you a very hard time. Play safe and try to just sustain.

Situational Items

START

1055.png+2010.png+3361.png
The usual start for great poke, sustain, and farming. I GO THIS 99% OF THE TIME!

1029.png+2010.png+3361.png
If the opposing top laner and jungler is AD and you're worried about dying early. I pick this up sometimes vs1055.png.

1001.png+2010.png+3361.png
If you want to just survive pre 6 and have greater chance at dodging abilities. I rarely, if ever, start with this unless i'm against Lux or someone i struggle with.

Warding: i usually ward around the 2:30 minute mark because if the opposing jungler went golems then red and comes straight top its around that time. I only ward tri bush if i know river is warded for me or if the scuttle has been picked up. Your E ability can usually deter any ganks that come from tri if you're on blue side. Otherwise i'll risk the wrap around from mid if im on red side.

FIRST BACK (NEED TO UPDATE, BUSY AT WORK, Go core build)

1055.png+2031.png

If you get a very early kill and want to harass more or if you have a gold lead and can afford this with 3145.png.

3145.png >3067.png

This is my usual first back to build into 3152.png. After the recent 7.1 patch i questioned this item but this is probably the best first item. The reason is, kennen has very weak wave clear early and can get pushed into tower while the other laner gets to back and return to lane faster or roam. With proto you can use it to engage, disengage, or wave clear if you need to.

3191.png
If you are losing lane to a strong ad like 80.png

BUILD

3152.png>3157.png>3020.png >3135.png>3102.png>3151.png

UPDATE

-To update this build order i start 3152.png and go immediately 3020.png. This is where you decide what you need.
-If you are already out of laning phase and starting to group and teamfight then possibly 3157.png will be needed.
-If you are safe when all ining for the most part and they have tank go 3135.png.
-If you are dying to AP build 3102.png

SITUATIONAL

3143.png only if they have heavy AD and you're losing hard.
3102.png only if they have more than 2 AP or those 2 AP are huge, meaning they have all the kills and all the damage.
3140.png may be what is necessary if you're playing against champs with stuns and taunts.
3026.png If you are the key focus for them. I rarely pick this up even if i am carrying the team. It takes away from potential AP items i could build. Literally only pick this up if the enemy team is using everything on you.

WARDS/TRINKETS/SWEEP

Don't be stingy, buy 2043.png if you don't have one placed. This saves lives. Now the issue i've been having since the 3363.pngcame out is places to3649.png to. If my whole team has3363.png i may want to keep my 3361.png to place so i actually have a place to go when i need to. Get a feel for it and see whats best for you. Sometimes i'll pick up a3364.png if they have complete control of our jungle. My support needs help and cant do everything.

I now favor 3364.png  over everything.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Start

1055.png+2003.png >3191.png or 3152.png

-His skillshot (E) is usually pretty easy to dodge since it gets smaller the farther away you are.
-Dodge his knockup/gapcloser at all costs, it's really the only way to lose this lane is if you let him consistently knock you up.
-If you can try to zone because he lifesteals off farm.
-Pre 6 if hes low and you can get a kill go for it.
-Post 6 be aware that he is not dead if his passive is up so try not to conserve abilities for after he pops.

VS

Akali

Medium

START

1055.png+2009.png into 3136.png. She is currently gong tank so more MP helps burst her down.

-Her counter is 2043.png so make sure you have one or one placed somewhere in lane, sometimes place it near your tower if you are freezing farm. She can't destroy it unless she has the farm pushed and you're not there or she will take agro from you.
-When she puts down her invis stay away from it so she doesnt q and dash to you. Try to get a passive on her when she goes for a minion, the moment you can see her, and just w to see where she is. If you're lucky you can throw a q  and sun her inside of it.
-When she is level 6 be careful when pushing her tower because she can chain dash to you and most likely get a kill if you don't already have a lead. So just farm with Q if possible and let the wave reset in the middle.

VS

Camille

Medium
3191.png I rush this, then either go proto or finsh zhonya.  So this champ is interesting, her kit is pretty good, but her all in potential is amazing. I find that its a 50/50 matchup depending on ganks. When she goes in for W you need to dodge, same goes for E. When she E's and you see the marker of where shes going to land, make sure you either just dodge the direction or E out of range. If she lands the stun, she can do a lot of damage. Now the main issue i find is when she ults and im getting ganked by the opposing jg, i can't run and its a 2v1. I have found success in rushing zhonya and when shes about to ult make sure youre as closs to your tower as possible. She ults, you just closest to tower and hope to god you can  1v1 her with tower, or 1v2 with tower. ULT, FLASH, Zhonya, proto reliant, if one of these are down, play passive.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

START

1001.png+2009.png>3001.png

Level 1-3 you can poke him down so he can't farm. Once he start to itemize he becomes a difficult champ to kill. I recommend starting 1001.png+2009.png so you can dodge his knock up, if you have good micro start 1055.png as always.
-I find him relatively easy as long as you dodge knock up (Q). If you can't dodge knockup, max Q and just farm safely and wait for gank. What i find is when trying to dodge his knock up, actually run towards him when hes about to do it. When you start running away he tries to lead you with it, so back step into him and then keep running. It's risky but you'll get used to it.

Post 6
You can all in him depending on if hes going AP or if hes going tank. If he goes tank make sure you have him poked down and watch how much MR he has. After playing kennen you should know your burst ability or will learn it relatively fast as long as you play aggressive and take chances.

VS

Darius

Medium

START

1001.png+2009.png>3191.png

Max W most the time, Q if you are afraid of him pulling you in.

This is a skill match up depending on who can micro better even though he is a melee champ. If you step into his zone you will be punished and vice versa. Level 1-2 be careful that he doesnt try to all in you. If he runs 14.png that probably means hes going to try to kill you early so be careful.

-Early levels you can poke him down with Passive+W. After he used his spinning ability thats your chance to hurt him, just dont step too close to get pulled in. For instance, if you are AA him and he steps towards you make sure you step back and follow his path. Your AA is just out of range of his pull so as long as you are at the right distance he cant hit you.
-Level 6 you can all in him, if he went 3155.png try to poke him down a lot before you all in. If he didn't then you have a high chance of winning the all in. Try to get a couple marks on him before you do so you can double stun and try to stay at range. When you ult don't e through him unless you're confident. Stay at a distance, ult+Q+W and passive will do high burst, try to save E just in case he pulls you or you need to escape.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Hard

START

 1055.png +2009.png > 3157.png or 3136.png

-Go 3136.png if youre looking to get an early kill on him and punish, go

3157.pngif you are looking to farm and more teamfight.

-At some point get 3116.png if you are consistently getting chased by him.

-Do not get poked down by him or try not to get hit by him if your low on minions because he will just chase you down.
-One of the rare times 14.png could be viable because it counters his ult.
-Just farm away and try to zone him out. trying to all in him may feel impoossible post 6 so take advantage of pre 6.

VS

Fiora

Medium

START

1055.png+2009.png>3191.png

-Skill based matchup
-Harass early levels
-Try to stay near the top bush so when you poke you can dodge minion agro.
-Bait out her parry if possible. When you passive her or are about to throw the passive maybe dont and see if she parries. Or when you passive wait to w so you can actually damage her.
-Rush 3116.png so you can slow her when she ults on you. When she is 6 if you have the wave pushed be very careful because she can just ult and chase you all the way even if you do E away.
-If she has no ult and hasn't got 3155.png yet you have high kill potential. Also try to pop hex before you all in if you can. That item can stop your all in easily.

VS

Galio

Medium

START

1055.png+2009.png>3001.png

-Galio is a very annoying matchup. Besides lvls 1-3 he is hard to kill and has very strong poke.
-I would say the lane is in his favor.
-Early levels is your best chance to punish him, when he uses shield (W), ignore him because damage gives back percent of health. Wait for his shield to wear off then punish him.
-Post 6, he wins the 1v1 most of the time in my experience. Unless you can outplay his shield ult dont all in him unless CLEAR advantage. This lane is for farming. Win farm, win lane.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

-This matchup is in your favor. The only range he has is his Q and his barrels. You can't dodge his Q because its point and click but you can dodge his barrels.
-The KEY is to dodge barrels (watch for barrel in bush, he likes to place one in the bush so its hidden then when you see one on the ground he shoots the one in the bush), and poke him down. When he uses his Q on you you have free reign to poke him down while its on cooldown as long as you don't get into melee range.
-Post 6, you can all in him but he does have high sustain so try to make sure you have a health advantage so he doesnt sustain then ult you and turn. Pay attention to if he uses ult in other lanes. If its on cooldown he doesnt have great escape so punish him.

VS

Garen

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

MAX W

-You just lucked into this lane. If you play this right you can snowball very hard.
-Early levels you can zone him out very hard. Level 1-2 get passive+w on him multiple times. Use the bush to your advantage so you don't take CS agro. Passive+W him then run through bush then AA him then run through bush. RINSE AND REPEAT. He will begin to hate you. All you have to worry about is his Q early levels, If he chases you with Q right when it runs out, turn on him and AA him until he will never do it again.
-I really try to get a kill in this matchup pre 6 because if you two are even post 6 then you can win this lane if he builds right. Don't all in him post 6 unless you have clear advantage such as hes poked down or has no MR cause he can turn the tables. Save 3157.png for when he's about to ult you.

VS

Gnar

Hard

START

1055.png+2009.png

-Start W if you're confident you can dodge his abilites or Q if you want to play safe.
-Build into a 3136.png because he will most likely be going pretty tanky. Or you can get a 3191.png if you want to rush 3157.png

-Dodge his boomarangs and if he marks you twice play very passive so he can't get a third.
-When hes in ult form, stay behind minions so he doesn't throw his rock at you.
-Be wary if you're low on minions because he can skip over them and poke you down which slows you down.
-Post 6 you dont have much kill potential without a Gank. Use Q's or Passive+W to poke him down.
-When he's in ult form and has used his smash and rock poke him until he switches back. Play his cooldowns.
-Try not to hover near walls as his ult will knock you against it and he will combo stun you.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png>3116.png

-Your favor early levels, his favor if even late levels.
-POKE HIM DOWN pre 6. He can't do much so try to freeze lane and deny CS.
-Post 6, you can continue to poke him down but be careful because this pony is fast and can out run your E if he has ult.

VS

Illaoi

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

Max W

-Relatively easy matchup.
- Don't be to close to him so he doesn't W you, and if he does punish him as he walks back.
-Dodge his E so you don't have to deal with the tentacles. If he does hit it, just run out of the range and kill 3 tentacles. I find if i just step into the tentical then immediately step out its easy to dodge then kill.
-Dodge his Q which is a slow animation just don't stay in line with the minions because then his getting cs will damaging you, make him choose what to use it on. Otherwise just poke him with your AA's and abilities.
-Post 6, you can all in him pretty easy. His ult will give him life steal so just make sure you burst him down before he ults. Try to engage first.

VS

Irelia

Hard
3191.png build this if losing. Otherwise still start 3152.png. The reason i put hard is because one mistake can leave you praying you banned this champ. Its a skill match up to begin with. LVL 1 you can outtrade pretty hard, but once you both reach 3, thats when you have to play a little passive. Dont let her dash then dash to you. Pay attention to health bars, if your higher then she cant stun you and only slow, if your lower health, then be more careful about positioning and make sure you are warding. She has amazing lifesteal come late game so be aware, if she builds hexdrinker dont even think about all-ining her unless she is already really low. I usually only go all in if 3155.png can be popped almost immediately or already popped.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

-Early level's you have advantage.
-His Q will do damage and has a low cooldown so make him use it only on you and not on minions. So dont stand behind minions, if he uses it on you poke him down and continue farming.
-Dodge his E dash by just strafing side to side and commit to one side when you see the staff drop.
-Try to zone him out if he's playing passive and just freeze the lane.
-Post 6, if you don't have flash be very careful for his ult because you will have no escape. Try to keep your passive up if you don't have flash so he stays somewhat afraid of getting stunned.

VS

Jax

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

-Poke him from the second you see him. All you have to worry about is him stunning you, when you see him spinning his staff, run so he doesn't jump (Q) on you and then turn and poke him with everything you have. It is very important to get a lead early in this lane because he is a split push machine and can kill you mid game if you are even and then take turrets very easily.
-If you have the lead and he doesnt have a lot of MR, play your cooldowns and use ult on him constantly. Even if you don't kill him, hopefully he will have to back and that leaves you to cs, gain experience, and or get a tower.

VS

Jayce

Hard

START

1055.png+2009.png>3191.png

-Levels 1-2 you can being aggressive as long as you don't let him hit you with his anything but his AA. Just stand behind minions and Passive+W him when he gets close or Q+W
-At level 3 be wary of his speed boost as he can catch you with you are close and punish you.
-If you don't see him try to stay behind minions but not to close so theirs no splash damage when he shoots his ball (forgot what the skills called).
-When hes in melee form this is the time to shine, poke the hell out of him but dont get close to him so he doesn't knock you away.

VS

Kayle

Hard

START

1055.png+2009.png>3001.png

-Very annoying matchup.
-Level one you can poke her hard. If she started Q don't be afraid of her, kite her into your minions and turn and AA+W or Q depending on what you start. If she started E, wait for it to go on cooldown before you start to damage her.
-Level 3, when she has Q,W, and E it can very annoying because she will Q slow you, W increase her speed, and then E you to death. Just farm from the back and play her cooldowns. You do have potential in killing her early pre 6 if you play it right.
-Post 6, you won't kill her more than likely. If you all in she will ult and then she will combo you down until you die. If you are going to try and kill her make sure you combo sstun or stun her before she ults to try and get damage off. Dont be afraid to stay in the fight if she is very low with ult, it doesnt last long so save a Q if you can and after its done try to kill her.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

START

1055.png+2009.png>3001.png

-Skill based matchup
-Her Q is very annoying so try to micro away so there isn't a minion between you and her so it doesnt spread to more CS and onto you.
Don't get close she doesnt W you so be careful if you're going to E through her.
-If she uses E watch for her to follow through and W you. So step away from it and get ready to Q the location where her E ends.
Post 6- 3027.png does make her tanky so try to poke her down before an all in but if she goes rod she probably doesnt have much MR so that is in your advantage. Just be careful because its a catch 22, you have MR from going 3001.png but she has high dmg and health. Sometimes if you are going to all in and she E's try to stun her when she E's rather than before so she can't escape. Or act like your going to follow her and get ready to chase the E. Flash is very useful in this matchup to secure a kill if she E's over a wall. Only use flash if you think its a big benefit such as a shutdown.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Some kennen mains say she is easy but to me if you don't punish her very early she is impossible to kil.

START

1055.png+2009.png or 1001.png+2009.png(4) if you can't dodge skills >3001.png

-Like almost every champ early levels you have advantage. Don't get slowed and try to poke her when she goes for minions.
-If she uses her Q thats when you can poke her hard, try not to get polymorphed though and if you do run.
-lvl 6 DO NOT ALL IN HER unless you have a clear stun and are not worried about her ult. She is a tough champ to kill if you are even and both have ult because if you don't kill her she will slow you forever and then kill you.
-Main focus for this lane is just farm. Try to out farm her and make her miss cs by playing mind games. When your passive is up and she goes in for a cs step towards her even if youre not in rage to make her think you are about to poke her. That tactic applies for everyone pretty much.

-If hes going tank you can go 3157.png first. If you see he is going AP get 3001.png first.
-Early levels poke him down and dont get close so he doesnt E you.
-He has no sustain so continue to poke and try to zone him out of farm or so he has to use Q to farm.
-Post 6, be careful, he most likely cant all in you unless he went straight AP. Watch for jungle ganks and be aware if he starts to play aggressive you are most likely about to get ganked so he will ult you before you get ganked.

VS

Maokai

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png or 3001.png

-I rarely go 3001.png to start vs mao but you can if he is beating you in lane.
-The main form of dmg is he going to do early is his E, just dont get close to the little minions so they dont explode on you. Stand between minions and him and AA or Q him from the back.
-He has strong gank potential with his jungler if he W's onto you so make sure you keep your lane warded.
-Post 6 doesnt give him high kill potential as much as someone like 54.png so keep playing the same. Main focus, vision.

-Like most champs, poke early levels.
-Save E for when he Withers (W) you. Just run away and then return and continue to poke and cs.
-When he throws down E, don't stand in it because it lowers armor and damages you while you're in it. Just stand on the outside, micro around it to cs or poke him.
-Early levels are the best chance of securing a kill because ones he gets stacks and tanky he can become a huge problem.
-If you let him farm freely he will kill you post 6. So try to deny CS.
-Post 6 he can combo wither you so get ready to stun him. Once he withers run with E and kite him to try to stun. Rinse and Repeat.
-Communicate with your jungler to try and gank him is ideal.

Hard

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png or 3001.png

Very annoying matchup.
-Levels 1-3 try to poke him down. When he has W up you won't do much of any damage to him so wait for the 18 second cooldown and poke him then.
-Stay at range for his E which will slow you down.
-Even though he won't build damage you should still respect him. If he Q's you then combo's he will still chunk you quite a bit. One thing to keep in mind is if you have the wave pushed to his tower and only 2 or 3 of your minions are left you should probably run back to your next wave coming. He will just walk past those 3 and Q you.
-Post 6, if he ults you, use your E to get as far away from him as possible so he doesnt Q you immediately after. Try to get under tower or near a teammate.
-All in potential post 6 is very unlikely unless you have denied cs or killed him pre 6.

VS

Olaf

Easy

START

-Dodge his Q. That is everything. If you can dodge the axe, you will win lane. If he throws and you dodge, if he tries to pick up the axe poke him on the way but be careful if you have the wave pushed so he doesnt continue to Q you back to the tower.
-Feel free to poke him as much as you want as long as you DODGE HIS Q.
-All in potential is high post 6 as long as you engage first because his ult gives him extra MR, Armor, and AD.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png or 1029.png+2009.png if you are not too familiar with kennen so he doesnt poke you down to much.
-His early level is probably just as strong as Kennen's so play passive. When he throws his spear at you thats when you can poke back. He will block your first AA but it will not discharge your passive so throw once, its blocked, throw again and w. Rinse and repeat.
-Do not get too close to him so he doesnt jump stun you then poke you down to nothing. They usually like to run 14.png so he can all in early.
-First back pick up an 3191.png. You can easily all in at level 6 since he is usually squishy until he itemizes.
-This lane is skill based matchup imo.

-Focus on farm more than anything. Even early levels this little yordle is hard to kill.
-You can poke her down slowly and should try to deny cs.
-Don't walk between her and a wall unless you want her to E you.
-The best way to win this lane is Farm, out farm her and itemize. Try to also focus on tele advantage. Make her back and use tele while you save tele to help other lanes.
-Post 6, she doesnt really become more of a problem. Only if you all in with a gank try to dodge her ult so it doesnt become a 1v1.

-Skill matchup
-Quinn is somewhat like Kennen early levels so this lane depends on who can micro and dodge better.
-Passive + W will out trade her early levels as long as you dont get blinded Q and AA'd. If you have traded better, zone her out and just make sure you dodge her Q.
-If she ran 14.png be very careful because she can all in you early with it.
-Post 6, she will outroam you. Ping for your teammates and comunicate even if you watched her back in lane. She can ult to another lane from her base very fast.

-Easy so long as you can micro his E better than him. Early levels, Passive+w him constantly.  Make sure you are far enough away from your minions that if he E's once he cant just Q or W you immediately and then E back. You would to make him choose whether he should E once and return and deal no dmg while you poke him or E twice. If he does E twice to you, after hes done dealing his dmg, try to get a stun on him and AA him fro the next 14 seconds or so. Until his E is back up.
-Post 6, all inning him is not bad. Try to burst him down before he ults and if he turns on you after he ults run and kite until you see clear advantage to try to secure the kill.

VS

Rengar

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

-I rarely see this match up top. Its a very easy one.
-Rengar has almost no range besides his E which is very easy to dodge and has to be in clear openings.
-From the start just poke him as much as you want. The only worry is when he goes into a bush he can jump onto a target. to counter this just ward the bush he most goes into.
-Post 6, in lane he wont do much with ult. The issue is if he backs while you're still in lane. If you have no ult and he backed you need to be cautious for him to ult you right when he returns.

VS

Riven

Easy

START

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

-Poke her early levels.
-When she q's she has 3 jumps. You need to pay attention to how many she has and how many are left. Do not get Q'd and youre relatively safe in lane. Her E isn't that great of a range so stay at AA range just watch out for the E, W, Q combo. Her E gives her a shield so try to bait it out by throwing your passive on her and just wait for the cooldown and then W. Try to deny CS as much as possible and make her use Q toescape rather than to be agressive.
-Post 6, she has strong kill potential. If you get Q'd on the third jump you will get knocked up and she will W stun you and continue to chase you down then ult. If she is level 6 and she does happen to W or Q you, i recommend immediately ulting to either kill her, burst her down, or escape. You can dodge her ult if you walk through her. Its hard to do consistently but when in doubt, e through her or around her so she has to decide what side to throw ult.

-His q is the only ability you can dodge so you have to play this smart. If he has more health you need to respect his strength and farm from distance. Try to gain back advantage by waiting for his cooldowns and then punishing. Or wait for the opportunity to Q him and then W.
-Post 6, he can burst you down if you dont punish him when he tries to poke you. If he passes the minion wave try to Q him in the face. Try to get him to use ult on minions rather than you. His ult is a very short cooldown so be careful.

-Pre 6 is the time to shine. More likely the only time to do anything vs this champ.
-He has shield beyond shields so try to poke him down as much as possible. Don't get between him and his Sword because it will slow you if he recalls it.
-I usually push the wave as hard as i can to his tower to deny him cs and make their jungler come top to open up other lanes.
-Youre relatively safe as long as you dont get taunted by him. If you do get taunted try to stun him once your free and make the trade worthy.
-Post 6 watch him like a hawk while watching what your team is dong. If you see a fight happening bot and you dont have tele, try to stun him as soon as you see him ult.
-All ins are relatively useless without a gank. This lane is more about helping your team than snowballing in lane.

-This lane is all about farming.
-You can kill him if you can catch him but don't follow when he releases the gas (Q).
-Early levels hes going to farm near your inner or 2nd tier tower, don't bother trying to go kill him unless you absolutely think you can. You risk losing cs while he gets cs.
-Post 6, you can still kill him as long as you dont get flipped with his E and Q'd to death. Keep a distance and don't let him Q through all the farm. Freezing farm in front of our tower is great because he can't Q without taking free agro from you or the tower.

This monter is hard to kill.
-He has a slow and stun/knockup Focus on farming. Try to get in damage when you can.
-Wait for a gank to get a kill and keep jungle warded. He has strong cc and if you get caught out you will have to burn flash or die.
-Post 6, in lane his ult doesnt do much unless you almost died and he wants to dive. Luckily his ult is heard so you know when its coming. Just use E tododge it and run to one side.

I cant emphasize enough how hard this matchup can be.
-You have to dodge his E, if he lands a couple stuns on you, either you have to back or you're already dead.
-Poking him will only consist of a Q to get a mark and then W. AAing him is risky business.
-Focus on farming and try to freeze lane if possible in front of your tower.
-Ask for ganks and then more ganks.
-Post 6, wait for ganks  to 1v1 unless you have CLEARRRRR advantage.

-Kench is a pain.
-Not so much early levels. You can poke him down but have to keep poking him to actually make him afraid.
-Dodge his Q is really the only worry pre 6. If he eats a minion to throw you have time to react for the most part so thats an easy dodge.
-Focus on Csing and denying Cs over everything.
-Wait for a gank to kill him unless you have adv and be on the looking out for tele opportunties.
- Post 6- if hes not in lane and you watched him back still throw up an mia because he can ult to another lane and just tele back top. Don't get eaten by him and dodge his q's. You most likely cant all in him so continue to focus on farming and try to take tower while helping other lanes with Tele.

Dont we all hate this little yordle!
-The one thing is, you can usually win this lane. Both of you hurt early, the difference is you can proc thunderlord very easily with passive+w which will out trade his Q. So as long as you can micro the 30 seconds inbetween your TLD cooldown you will outtrade him pre 6.
-Post 6, don't walk in bushes if you don't have to, don't walk in the side parts of the lane unless you have to as well. Buy a 2043.png and place it either in river or top bush to help with lane shrooms. When pushing lane, stay behind and away from your minions so they take the damage.
-Post 6 you have high kill potential. He is a very easy all in as long as you can Ult-E-W-Q him without hitting a shroom.

1055.png+2009.png>3157.png

-As always, poke early levels.
-Be careful for his E when you don't have river warded because his CC plus a gank is almost always an automatic kill.
-Try to deny cs and be careful because even when you think he might be dead, his Q gives him health and he'll be right back in the game.
-Post 6, he is very annoying. If you get E'd he will catch you and slowly kill you until you tilt. He's also a tower destroying monster like 24.png so try to keep in mind when you tele away if someone is going to cover your lane or if you have time to get back.
-Going 3116.png is a great core item to help you run from him and slow him when he E's away.
-Wait for ganks to kill post 6 unless clear advantage, like hes about to die, you know the jungler isnt close or his E is on cooldown.

-like Wukong, he can cheese you early levels so watch your top bush when you walk into lane at lvl 1. Make sure he's not there because if you walk past him and he has 14.png, either you are going to have to flash or you will die.
-Poke him down so he never goes tryn again vs Kennen. Pre 6 you can constantly attack him. His E is the only gap closer so be aware of how far you re from him and how many minions you have. If you are low on minions be more careful. If you have more minions, attack the living hell out of him.
-Post 6, All in potential is great if he doesnt have ult, if he has ult you need to learn how to kite. After you all in if he ults he will try to chase you down orscare you so you leave. Read the situation and know when to run or when to wait around until his Ult wears off. Picking up a 3116.png will help with both cases. Either you can slow him to escape or you can slow him to kill.

-He will outsustain you.
-His main form of damge is going to be Q on you. Try to time it so he Q's a minion and then go in for damage. If you do poke him down try to keep poking him because his Q gives him health so he will just lifesteal back to full health where as you dont have much sustain besides a simple Dorans.
-Post 6, you can kill him if you poke him down enough. Just be careful because right when you are going to kill him he will W pool away to dodge abilities. A trick is to keep W up and wait for the W cooldown and then poke.

-Poke him as much as possible but stay behind your minion line. If he standing still be careful because he may be using W to dash towards you and Q. The key is to poke him then when you know hes gong to W away save your W until he does. Your W will follow him rather than hit the decoy as well as show you where he is.
-Post 6, Skill based. Whoever outplays better. As previously said, time his W and continue to poke him down. You can all in him just be careful because he has strong CC and chase ability if you don't kill him.

-Try not to be to close to minions so he cant E through then poke you and E away.

You really are going to hate this lane.
-Early levels poke him down HARD, try to deny as much CS as possible.
-Once his ghosts start spamming kill them as fast as possible. I find it hard sometime to click on them so if you dont already, you should learn to attack move.
-Focus on farm over anything unless you can get a kill.
-Post 6, hes going to be spamming ghosts constantly. Try to watch when hes out of mana to make your move. All inning him isnt too bad just need to watch out after you kill him because his ult may chase you down.

Early Game Back to Top

LEVELS 1-3 (Early Game)

-Try getting used to buying your starting items and getting off the stoop early. This can prevent the enemy team invading as well.

-If your jungler is starting your side (Golems or Gromp) help him with a leash. If you started Q give 2 AA's+Q. If you started W give 3 AA's or 4 if you're nice and you get to go back to lane with passive active for a quick harass.

-If your jungler starts bot side you could watch his blue for him or ward around the 1:15 min mark to watch for invade.

-Now the first two levels is where you can do a lot of damage depending on how you play it. Passive+W proc's thrunderlord decree so try to poke him immediately with that.

-Don't cross the minion line unless there isn't many cs or you can secure a kill. If he crosses your minion line and you have health adv stay near your minions and fight him. Your damage plus the cs agro will most likely win the fight or trade. Be wary if he has ignite though, just run and A or AA him. Try to have equal trades.

-Their are two champs that you need to watch out for that may cheese you early levels. 62.pngand 23.png like to sit top bush on your side and wait for you to pass. If they have ignite they can kill you relatively easy so check your bush or Q through it to make sure they dont. Also you may want to start E second for escape.

Cheese: one way to cheese is to start W and have one or two thunderlord procs you can get E second and go in for a stun and sometimes come out with the kill if you are using the attack speed runes. As you stun just kite him back to their tower and hope its enough.

Warding: Ward around the 2:30 minute mark because thats usually the quickest a jungler is going to try. If he went golems red then straight top or if he goes gromp blue then top. Either way keep your lane warded. If you dont have a ward try not to push your lane out unless you have clear vision on the enemy jungler or spotted him bot side.

Ganks: One thing to keep in mind is who the enemy jungler is. Do they have strong gank potential or will you be able to easily escape if they come. For instance if its a 19.png you most likly are pretty safe pre 6 because he's slow and cant gap close that easily. Where as a 28.png jungler can show up and catch pretty fast. So play accordingly.

LEVELS 4-6

At this point both of you have all your abilites besides ult and it comes down to who plays the lane better.

-Farm should be your top priority over being aggressive. If you are poking him down but losing cs while the enemy is still last hitting, after first back you'll be behind and have to catch up.

-You should be striving to hit level 6 when you can start making plays.

Level 6: If you hit level 6 before your enemy and you have health advantage try to keep them zoned out of farming as well as not getting experience. I try to stand on their side of the minions so they have to play back. Again make sure your lane is warded because if you have advantage most likely the jungler will be coming top to help out.

12.png: Level 6 is usually a good time to tele if you haven't had to use it yet. Tell your bot lane to place a deep ward or just keep a look out if you can tele to mids minions if the mid laner has past the minion line. Don't think you have to tele every time you hit 6 but be on the look out for openings. Also if your enemy used tele to get back to lane because they were about to miss cs and you walked back you have adv. This would be a good time to use tele because they can't follow you. Just be aware that if you tele away they can push lane and try to take tower. If you tele'd and say you didn't get a kill, tower, or drag you may have put yourself behind because their tele will be up before yours and then you won't be able to follow. Communication is key.

Reading your opponent: Now this is where experience plays a part. If your enemy is playing very passive the majority of laning phase then all of a sudden starts moving towards you not just once but a couple times, you're most likely about to get ganked. If they're smart they wont be aggressive and wait for the right moment but you'll start to notice when you're about to get ganked if you dont have a ward. And the vice versa, if your oppponent is full health and used to play very agro then all of a sudden is playing back and your jungler isnt anywhere near them the enemy jungler or another target may be lane ganking. Champs like
127.png or254.png have strong gank potential when you're near their tower. They can sit in the tri bush and easily gap close onto you so be wary.

LEVELS 7-11

Alright, at this point you have probably finished your first item or more and you have 1 of 3 scenarios. Winning lane, Losing Lane, or Tied.

WINNING LANE: By winning i'm saying you are ahead a kill or more, ahead in cs, and possibly about to or already have taken your top lane turret.

-Zone them out: If you are winning and have advantage you need to hold that advantage and try to prevent your enemy from catching up. Don't get over eager and try to kill them constantly. If they are losing cs and your other lanes are doing fine, you may not need to push your lane out. Just keep farming and gaining a lead.

-Taken Tower: This is where you need to decide whats the next plan. Either you push hard to their second tier or you start to help out the other lanes with taking their towers. For instance, if you have taken your top lane tower and want to start moving down the line with helping your teammates make sure your farm is slow pushing to their side so either they don't take your tower or push the wave to start hitting your second tier tower. By slow push I mean you have more minions pushing from half map then theirs. A good video to help understand how minion waves work is by Dong Huap. I recommend watching this if you are new or looking to learn more about how to freeze or slow push a minion wave.

-Rinse and repeat: Its kind of repetitive when you do this but its how you win games. Say you just backed and the enemy is pushing the wave and you don't have tele. For one they shouldnt be since their losing and two this is in your advantage as long as they dont push hard enough to reach your tower. Run back to lane using E to get there faster and push the wave so it starts slow pushing their side. I push to about the last top lane bush unless i need to hurry up and only cs about 3 or 4 minions so my wave will slowly kill theirs and continue to push. After pushing it out start roaming mid or make a play with tele. If nothing happens go back to lane and continue the process. If you are safe you can start pushing to their 2nd tier tower otherwise try to figure out ways to get cs or helping mid. Don't forget about golems or gromp, thats extra cs but make sure your jungler doesnt mind.

LOSING LANE: You are down a kill, behind in cs, or have lost your tower.

-Don't tilt: Getting frustrated and yelling at teammates does not help you or them. Comebacks do happen and by comebacks i'm saying any game is possible to come back from as long as the stars line up.

-Focus on farming: if you are behind you most likely don't have strong kill potential. The best way to catch up is by farming, getting items, and either helping your team get a kill/tower or waiting for your team to help you. If you are getting poked down to hard and feel like you cant farm; farm under tower. If you are getting dove under tower you may just want to think about your itemization of what's going to keep you alive. Maybe instead of going3145.png you should go3067.png so you can kite and can possibly survive longer in lane with the extra health from.

-Team player: If you are losing your lane but other lanes are winning, you need to think about whats best for the team. Don't feed is number one. If you have already died a few times and are starting to get frustrated, start looking at like you are about to be the assist god. Kennen is a great teamfighter so you're not out of the game. Just wait for the right moment and use your stunning ability and either combo them for stun or ult. Hopefully you have 4.png to keep yourself alive but even if you die and your team cleans up, that's ok.

TIED: Your even in cs and kills. Either you have traded towers or you both still have them.

-Farm: If the match-up is pretty even try to do whatever you can to get advantage. Something as small as forcing the to miss a cs is a win for you. Ways to do this would be stepping towards them when they are about to last hit or scare them with your passive.

-Wards: if the match up is even, maybe switch to3364.png and try to clear their wards so your jungler can gank better.

-Tele: as said earlier keep a look out for chances to tele. If you're tied and can make a play do it, but also be wary that this could put the opposing laner in the lead if you don't make a play.

Level 11: This is a big power spike in your ult, going from 6 bolts to 10. As a kennen player levels 6, 11, and 16 should be times to shine.

Mid Game Back to Top

LEVELS 11-16 (Mid Game)

By now laning phase is over is most likely over, you have bought a few items, and your team is most likely ready to group.

Baron: I'm going to talk about baron now because most likely your team wont be going for it any earlier. Baron can be a huge game changer for the better or for the worse. Even if you are winning your game going for baron can throw the game pretty fast. I have learned this the hard way. If you are steamrolling the opposing team and are sieging towers and getting drag then don't try to baron unless you have clear advantage. Clear advantage meaning, there is 2 or more down, smites up, and or they are on the opposite side of the map. Too many times teams will think because they have the lead they can baron with all 5 of the opposing team up. If your team is going for it anyways and you know its a bad idea. Ping them off it and tell them no. Don't always follow your teams calls if you know its about to end badly.

Rinse and Repeat: This should still be on your mind even if your tower is gone. Push your lane so its not pushing on your side. If the wave is pushing your side then it creates advantage for the other team to push another lane while your lane is losing its tower to minions. Don't always prioritize this if you don't have tele and another lane is getting pushed hard. You may have to sacrifice your tower for a team-fight or another objective.

Split Pushing: (Beyond half map) Only split if you have12.png available and know you can survive a 2v1 while escaping. Kennen needs to be in the fights because your stun potential is a game changer and level 11 is a huge power spike for kennen with 10 bolts.

Late Game Back to Top

LEVELS 16-18 (Late Game)

At this point of the game, respawn timers are high, your at your full potential, and the games coming to an end.

-Level 16: Your ult is now 15 bolts and can stun the entire enemy team. You should be in every team fight possible.

-Objectives: Strive to get every objective possible. Buffs will tremendously help your teamfights. As for red and blue, its more likely going to benefit another lane more than you. In teamfights you won't be AA'ing as much as your adc so you shouldn't be taking red and you're not a mana champ so blue will almost always benefit someone else more.

-Seige: You don't have to push push push. If you guys are pressuring their side of the map, you're most likely always gaining advantage because you can clear the enemies jungle or get drag and baron. Continue to push all lanes so they run into their towers so they lose more farm and rinse and repeat until there's an opening. This is also something to keep in mind. If you have taken an inhib on top or bot and baron is not up, seige the opposite side, don't go mid. The reason being is, say you take top inhib and you guys are pushing bot to try and take the tower. When the top super minions finally reach their base one of their teammates are going to have to deal with it so make them run as far away as possible to create a 4v5 scenario. If you were to push mid it gives more of an opportunity for more than one of them to help clear the super minions.

Key's To Winning Back to Top

PRIORITY

-OBJECTIVES> CS> KILLS - This was told to me when i was diamond 5 and has helped me pass my plateau. Objectives are first priority because they are global gold and towers and nexus wins games. CS is guaranteed gold whereas kills are not. If you are sitting top lane and the jungler is fighting in river, the fight is running towards mid rather towerds top. The odds are you will not catch up and if you run river you are missing experience and cs top lane. If the jungler is running towards top then you have the option to go help.

COMMUNICATION

-I cannot emphasize this enough. Pings are in the game for a reason. If you see an enemy jungler about to gank bot ping even if you think the bot lane sees them. They might be tunneling and that extra ping could save their lives and save the game. If your team just got 4 down and are about to back and dragons up, ping dragon and try to take an objective. Be the leader if your team doesnt have one. Call out mia's (missing in action)  even if you know your opposing laner just backed. You don't know if the laner is going to head straight back to lane or lane gank somewhere else.

COOLDOWNS

-Play accordingly to your cooldowns. Every time your ult is up look for opportunities to gank or12.png.  When your waiting for your cooldowns go back to focusing on farming or objectives. Kill's aren't everything.

DON'T TILT

-I know i have already said this but if you get frustrated and are losing lane don't make others lose because of your own issues. You cannot win every game. As long as you are learning from every game you lose that's a win (The cliche's). But seriously, everyone tilts sometimes, one thing to think about after you lose and before your next match is what is one thing i can do differently or try to get better at. If you consistently do this, you will get better.

About Me-Twitch.Tv/SensesWho Back to Top

I am a one trick pony who only plays Kennen. I've been playing since season 3 on and off and hope to get masters this season for the first time. Back in season 2, Kennen was strong and i started right at the beginning of Season 3. He was a free champ that just stuck and i was already too invested to learn more champs even after his nerfs. I have probably over 4k games with this little guy and continue to learn something new every game.

You can catch my stream at
