Take Q first due to its low cool down and good damage, followed by W for that nice heal and aoe clear, then jump to allow get you some mobility and allow you to take the raptors more efficiently.

Q will be your main source of damage and as such I would recommend evolving it at level 6 for the increased isolation damage. Once you get your evolved Q you will be looking for opportunities to isolate people and taste their fear.

It will mostly be beneficial to stick to the same evolution route most games but it can be changed up depending on the scenarios. The evolutions I take in order are Q, E, R. I believe it to be more common to take W as your last evolution at level 16 instead. I don't disagree with the people that do that but evolving ultimate last fits my play style better. The beauty of the ult evolve lies in the youmoo's ult combo which can allow you to make a surprise turn around by popping youmoo's as you go invisible and sneaking into their back line to pick off or heavily chunk a squishy. Of course its risky and can be completely countered by a

 2043.png or 3364.png.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Always take Refillable worst case scenario you can sell it back for 60 gold.

Core Items

Any of the boots could be a better choice in the right scenario but I like swiftness for the quick ganks and presence.

Situational Items

If the enemy team has an assassin or three or more ap dealers then one of these could be a good pickup.
Choose one of these for armor pen later on in the game. Usually a fourth item pickup. Black cleaver is good if your finding yourself low on max hp while dominics regards is better when ahead.
Good pickup vs Maokai or Mundo
Always take 3812.png I can't even think of a reason not too. Its got 15% damage heal back which is amazing on kha's Q. I couldn't even begin to imagine how often it saves me.

Every single game you should pick up your upgraded jungle item although it is interchangeable between 1408.png and 1400.png I simply prefer warrior for easier ganking but its not necessary as you already have four potential slows at level 6 ( three procs of passive with ult stealth and W ).

Make sure to always treat every game like an individual and build accordingly. For example you shouldn't build a 3036.png if you take the 3053.png since they won't syngergize well with one another instead take the 3071.png

Although I labeled it core 3142.png could be switched out for 3074.png however I much prefer 3142.png which is why I consider it core. Kha is all about assassination after all and its a good very nice utility with the speed boost and amazing armor pen.

VS

Amumu

Hard

VS

Ekko

Medium

This is again a skill match up. Normally if he is isolated and you know you can out play him then I would take the fight. The problem is he is very good at surviving until back up arrives and like most champs its easy for him to kill you or escape than vice versa.

VS

Elise

Medium

I normally seem to have an easier time with elises but this is just me personally. Don't forget that they have 6 abilities so they can kill you fast and even deny your isolation damage with their spiderlings. However you can usually kill an elise if you get the drop on them.

VS

Evelynn

Medium

They usually run ignite so you cant fight them until level 6 like most matchups. Just be careful of their cheese and protect your jungle. I normally like to start my buffs in order to avoid having them steal it.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

Just avoid him since its usually a drawn out battle. Try to get ahead off of the lanes and then post 6 feel free to invade him relentlessly. Still only invade on a certainty don't go in blind though.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Another champ that cant be beaten until post 6. I personally view him on the easier side as well but he can definitely get you into an unfavorable circumstance with his ult.

VS

Graves

Medium

If the graves knows what he's doing then don't mess with the guy. However he can be an easy target since he has a bit lower of mobility.

VS

Hecarim

Hard

Hard to kill and can cc you as well as escape easily. Not much of a point to fighting him really.

VS

Kha'Zix

Hard

This is a true hunt.

VS

Kindred

Easy

Avoid her at all costs pre 6 but post 6 you can hunt her down in her jungle if you know how to play the battle.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

If he kicks you then your basically dead if his Q is still up that is. Definitely a skill matchup be he can have an easier time since he can reveal you during stealth.

VS

Master Yi

Medium

Once you get your jungler item you can beat him in a 1v1 assuming your ahead of him slightly and its not even very risky. Keep in mind though that he can heal and stay at low hp for a while so backup may just get you killed. Also he scales well into late game so end the game early if possible.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Again wait until after 6 and you can beat her relatively easily if you dodge a spear. Keep in mind she has a very good escape if the battle is prolonged she can out run you.

VS

Nocturne

Hard

If he spell shields your Q then its basically over. He will get increased attack speed and then have you feared.

VS

Rammus

Hard

Anything tanky can kill you so try to avoid unless you have a lead and a deaths dance that is.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

If she is burrowed she can see you where your going so keep that in mind. She usually builds tankier so she can easily be a threat to you later on and will generally out level you because her ult allows her to be around the map farming much better than you. She can  be beat but only once you have a lead.

VS

Rengar

Medium

You can generally out burst him but his sustained damage is far better than yours. Whoever gets ahead will be the winning of the match up. Good luck hunting.

VS

Sejuani

Hard

Naturally tanky can slow you down and deal significant enough damage to make you run for your life but watch out her ult can still get you. Generally avoid her. If there is no risk to it then you can take her jungle since your mobility is better pre 6 there isn't to much risk.

VS

Shaco

Medium

The king of the cheese. He isn't really worth the time you would have to put into actually killing him. However if you really want to just keep a 2043.png handy and he can be an easy kill assuming you place the ward well it will give him away.

VS

Shyvana

Hard

No need to fight her. You won't win it cause of her red smite and heavy damage and tank. You can easily juke her with your ult though and kite her back. This would be a good time to get a 3812.png earlier instead of 3142.png

VS

Skarner

Hard

He's tanky with cc basically just a ww that pulls you into the enemies.

VS

Udyr

Medium

This match up has always been a weird one for me. I've had games where I destroy them and had games where they destroy me. They almost always have levels on you and their builds are as random as can be. Try to avoid them as they'll usually come out on top from level advantage alone. But in a even leveled 1v1 you can beat.

VS

Vi

Hard

Her ultimate doesn't care if you just went invisible so don't fight her let alone get to close to her.

VS

Warwick

Hard

Lock down is to be avoided.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

Another weird one like udyr. He can generally beat you however when he gets behind he has no forms of escape so the best he can do is ult you away. Take advantages when the enemies behind.

Clarification on match ups Back to Top

All about skill and Cicumstances

A lot of the match ups Kha will normally face will come down more to skill than a direct counter. Champs that are early game focused will always beat your pre 6 but post you'll have a fighting chance against the such as 64.png  76.png  203.png. Kindred being a very good example as post 6 you can actually counter her assuming your even in kills and have your completed jungle item. All you have to do is find her isolated go in with a jump Q auto followed by invisibility into another Q auto making sure to save your last stack of your ult for just before her ult dies. This will enable you to be guaranteed to get in the first hit after her ult has expired.

Avoid these guys

People that I would stick away from are anyone that can lock you down like 19.png or someone who can't be killed within 6 seconds due to them being tanky like 33.png or 113.png.

About me Back to Top

Hey you can call me Daetu I'm currently sitting in masters floating around 100 points. I have been playing the game for around three years now wandering in and out of many different roles but have had the most success as a jungler. He's definitely my go to jungler and by far one of my favorites. I've probably played well over 500 games on him and haven't  gotten remotely closed to becoming bored of him. The diversity in his play styles makes him pretty damned fun. Not to mention blowing up a an enemy champ 100  to 0 and having them complain is always a pleasure. Although this is my highest ranking accounts my win rates on Kha' zix change around by account. I have gotten as high as 80% up until diamond 5 right around where it usually starts dropping.

Although this is my highest ranking account it's not the first account I start playing under. My other account is sitting at diamond 3 right now since I don't feel like ranking that one up that last few steps even though it has all the champs. Back when I started I was originally a support main and that's how I had initially gotten to platinum. But decided to change roles after starting to play a bit of fiddlesticks way back in season 4 or so. As you can tell my play style has changed quite a bit over time. I like where I am at currently though I feel assassins are very rewarding to play when ahead and deserve to be weak when behind.

Im hoping to one day get challenger but sitting in masters is fine by me. I've watched a lot of pro's struggle in diamond now through streaming but then again they never really try hard and talking and playing is hard. But nonetheless becoming worse is scary lol. Hope you've enjoyed the guide so far.

The mindset of a Kha Back to Top

Playstyle

Kha has a unique play style due to his isolation bonus damage. He is a true assassin due to him requiring the enemy to be alone to do significant damage. All though not mandatory its highly important that you don't under value its power. As such all decisions you make should be keeping it in mind.

When to engage / how to

As such your main goal as kha is to look for opportunities in which the enemies misstep go isolated and assassinate them using your jump to once again escape. Keep in mind though that your trying to focus on killing priority targets like their adc or apc as they're squishy and deal massive damage. Successfully killing one of them can easily make or break a team fight before it even begins. Of course you don't always need to jump out depending on the situation sometimes its simply better to simply go invisible and back off while waiting for you teammates so that you aren't forced to blow the long cool down on your now reset jump.

When ahead / behind

When ahead with Kha you should aim to keep your lead ahead by ganking whenever possible keeping in mind what summoner spells each laner has and if they have placed a ward. If your not sure just ask your teammates as they will almost always know the summoner spells their laner has currently available. Also aim to buy several pink wards everygame as they not only help laners out but can also make ganks far easier and reduce the risk of being counter ganked.

When behind kha is quite easy to punish so just focus on farming jungle and completely avoid the enemy jungle for almost any reason. You should start thinking about buying more defensive items such as a maw or steraks and opt out of getting swiftness boots for mercs or tabis instead. As well as making sure to smite the wolf camp whenever possible to grant vision for half your jungle while using a pink in the other jungle entrances to avoid any unneeded deaths.

Synergies Back to Top

Hard Initiators / Tanks

Kha usually works well with hard initiators and tankier teammates since he can very very rarely ever initiate a fight himself. You'd prefer a tankier top and support laner because jungler is often filled by bruisers and tanks more often than assassins and teammates may find it hard to play around a squishier team. Good exmaples would be champions like 412.png   53.png   these two are some of my favorites as a pull will generally render someone isolated and therefore an easier kill. Good examples for top laners would include 54.png    14.png

Avoid

With Kha you generally want to avoid be paired with immobile adc's since they generally require a harder peel meaning that your top laners can't body block abilties for them since they will most likely be in the front line trying to lock the enemies down, while your supports are the only ones left to protect the adc.

Combo Back to Top

One Shot

This is the general combo I use when I know I'm not sitting on a ward and I see a lone squishy target that won't have time to react to my combo. I lead with a W imediately followed by a jump and mid air Q and finished off with an auto. Assuming your packing enough damage this will always kill the squishy you just went after. An exception might be sivir since she can spell shield your abilities, however the point of this combo is to get it done before they can react.

To close

If a poor squishy target  happens to come to close and is within a 1 second walk away then go invisible instead. As soon as they get near activate ult and get right on top of them then auto Q. Assuming they have a form of mobility which most champions do then you can follow them with a jump and finish them off with your remaining abilities. I generally go for this combo as its less risky since I can use my jump as an escape still if the situation goes sour.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Beginner

Always make sure to use abilities in the down time between auto attacks. So in jungle it would be normal to auto Q auto W auto Q and so on. Also whenever jungling always make sure to finish off any of the smaller jungle creatures before fighting the larger. This will allow you to have healthier clears due to isolation damage. An example would be when talking blue kill the sentinels followed by the golem. When your running low DON'T FORGET SCUTTLES they give your team good vision heal you and are worth a good enough chunk of gold. Keep in mind although they aren't a major one they are still objectives and you may be contested for them.

Whenever looking to assassinate someone make sure to use a sweeper to check if your sitting right top on a ward. Also keep in mind that you may have been spotted by a ward going to your hiding bush. If the enemies are acting strange and gathering close by then its generally a good time to run for it.

Intermediate

Even when jungling you can still kite the camps which will leave you with an overall higher amount of hp assuming you do it right. Of course the trade of is generally losing a bit of clear time, although the time lost it barely significant and definitely a good trade. Kiting in the jungle with kha is can be more difficult pre 6 as  he doesnt yet have the increased range on Q and auto's from evolving his Claws however it can be done. The most useful time to kite is against the krugs and blue buff in my opinion since they're slower and therefore easier. To kite just auto Q auto and back off waiting for Q cooldown. Also throw a w in there lol.

Another simple thing to keep in mind is the burn dmg on your talisman while in the jungle as it gives you back hp based on all the things that are burning so whenever you aren't at full hp in the jungle lead with a W on camps.

Whenever starting krugs I recommend that you then take raptors followed by Red buff. This will allow you to have your smite available for the red buff giving you back 20% of your max hp.

Advanced

53.pngSome more advanced tricks would be against people like blitzcrank. When you grabs you DO NOT try to jump away if you do that you will die because his knockup will deny your jump. Instead go invisible immediately get some distance and then jump.

64.png When fighting with a lee sin its important that you dont get revealed by his E post 6 so make sure to keep your distance by Q'ing and running away with ult speed boost. This will almost  always draw out his E abiltiy and its a far easier fight from there. Keep in mind to not auto him because that would put you in his ultimate range which when followed by a Q is almost guaranteed to kill you.

56.png15.png Keep in mind that spell shields can not only block all of your abilties but they can also block the extra damage and slow from your passive.

60.png Also whenever fighting an Elise remember that she is much weaker in her human form since you are able to isolate her. However when she is in spider form her spiderlings will deny your isolation bonus damage. Also be careful of her  stun when in human form since her full combo has amazing burst potential.

Teamfighting Back to Top

Looking for an opportunity

Team fighting on Kha is definitely a weird spot for him, since he doesn't always excel at them but doesn't always flop either. A lot of times you should stick farther back waiting for an opportunity to assassinate their back line carries then make an escape and reengage whenever possible with ult. However if they say have a malphite who isolates himself by ulting into your back line and you managed to dodge it then you  should try to put some damage down on him before looking for an assassination attempt. Anytime a tank uses their lock down and it doesn't hit you then your free to wail away at them unless say their back line walks up and starts trying to kill your squishies or if their back line is fed. As an assassin it is still your primary goal to kill their fed carries but keep in mind when your dead your doing no damage so sometimes its best to stay safe and not recklessly engage.

Sneaky assassin strategies

If the enemy team has an amazing teamfight with tanks and aoe lock down then you should almost always just avoid fighting them and instead split off trying to separate their team. If the person that goes to fight you can beat you 1v1 then try to sneakily rejoin your team and force a fight while they're down a person. Of course if a squishy goes off alone to stop your split then that gives you a chance to assassinate them and then continue your push and repeat the steps above.

Just a minor update Back to Top
