I think that flash and ghost both have nice perks for Kled.  I tend to prefer flash because when you get dismounted, the extra speed can help you either disengage or get closer.  The cooldown is also lower on ghost.  I wouldn't take an offensive spell like ignite or exhaust because the utility ones just flow better with his kit.

I like to play Kled very aggressive and these runes really make it easier to do that.  You always want to make sure you have Savagery for jungling since it speeds up his clear time considerably.  Oppressor is nice because your Q impairs movement,but Bounty hunter can be used if you are good at getting kills.  Fervor of Battle goes very well with Kled's kit and you can get those stacks really quick.


Sometimes I consider getting intelligence and Stormraider's Surge.  The movement speed boost is really nice from Stormraider's and the CDR from intelligence can make a big difference.  

At the end of the day, Fervor of Battle is for dueling and Stormraider's is for more chase / lock down potential.  Both are good choices.

Kled is accompanied by his semi-trusty mount, Skaarl. Depending of whether Kled is Skaarl the Cowardly Lizard.png mounted or Skaarl the Cowardly Lizard 2.png dismounted from Skaarl, his set of abilities is altered.

MOUNTED – INNATE: Kled's health cannot be improved except through growth, instead Skaarl has 400 - 1505 (based on level)(+ 100% bonus health) maximum health and, while together, all damage dealt to the duo is suffered by Skaarl. Upon being reduced to 0 maximum healthSkaarl flees and Kled becomes Skaarl the Cowardly Lizard 2.png dismounted. While Kled dismounts SkaarlKled becomes briefly untargetable and any damage in excess of Skaarl's current health is ignored.

While charging, the duo gain bonus movement speed and a shield, both increasing over the duration.

The shield lasts for 2 seconds upon finishing the charge. The duo trails a directional draft on their wake for 6 seconds that grants the same movement speed to all allied champions who follow their lead.

Skaarl homes in on the first enemy champion encountered, Airborne icon knocking them back and dealing them physical damage based on the distance traveled.

  • PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 12 / 15 / 18%(+ 12% per 100 AD) of target's maximum health

Starting Items

    I usually prefer the Machete with the refillable potion, but that's my preference.
    I find this enchantment to be the most effective because it really makes ganking easier.
    This is a general build for early ganking that is effective.

Core Items

    This is probably one of Kled's most effective items. It gives him all the stats he needs. I would build this every game no matter what.
    Getting an early Tiamat is really good for jungle clear. I usually won't finish my Titan / Ravenous until I get my Black Clever. I mostly get Ravenous Hydra now because I enjoy the damage boost, but Titan can be a solid tankier option.
    I have been using these lately and honestly think they are really good for Kled. It speeds up with W and make sticking on people much easier. I also enjoy the tower clearing potential with this option.
    If you want cheap boots for ganking, then swiftness is nice. You will probably trade these out later in the game though. Mercs are for CC and Ninja Tabi is for those auto attack reliant champs.
    This is my ideal jungle item because it really provides Kled with everything he needs to succeed. The AD + CDR are probably some of the best stats you can get for him. Some people prefer Cinderhulk, but I honestly think this is better for Kled overall.
    I think this is probably the most ideal way to play Kled. He has high base health with Him + Skarl so he can get away with going for all AD.
    If you want to play a tankier Kled, then you could try this out. You have a good amount of damage and the potential to soak up a lot of damage.

Situational Items

    I have been experimenting with this and I honestly think it's a nice item. I am not sure I would take this over a Black Clever though which is why I wouldn't get it. If you have the courage, this item has a lot of nice stats for Kled, particularly the Sheen proc because he can use his spells really often.
    Some people really like the Cinderhulk, but I honestly don't like it. I feel that Kled would do much better with AD and to go tanky early on would miss some of his key mid game potential.
    This item seems like it would be nice; however, it costs as much as a trinity force. If I had to choose between this and a trinity force, then I would just get the trinity.
    These are all decent life steal options if the enemy is not building a lot of Armor. Death's dance is nice if you need extra cdr, Blood thirster is fun for high lifesteal, and the Mercurial can get a lot of CC off of you. I usually just get a hydra as much lifesteal option, but I suppose it's up for debate.
    This item can be nice if they have a really strong AP champ; however, the shield would only proc when you are off of Skarl making it not that good of an option in my opinion.
    This item is pretty solid and I wouldn't mind trading it for your jungle item if you're in the late game. The active is nice; however, I don't think it's that necessary since Kled already has good sticking power. If you are talented with this item though, I think you could squeeze it in.

How Building Works

The worse thing you can do is read my item selections and then just pick them when you play Kled.  Building is a game to game thing and I honestly never build the same things. If you want to succeed in your game, you have to see a few different thing:

  1. Who is doing well?

    Depending who is fed on the enemy team should determine parts of your build.  If they have a really fed ADC, you might consider 3047.png or even a 3143.png.  

  2. What does your team need from you?
    If your team is really squishy, then you might want to be more beefy to help out in team fights.  I usually play Kled all AD, but sometimes being a tank is more helpful, especially if you already have a lot of AD on your team.  

  3. What items are going to be the most effective?
    If you are facing an all AD or AP team, then you might just build a lot of resistances.  Even though Kled does well with a lot of AD, getting 3047.png3143.png3075.png against an all AD team will make you almost unkillable.  

There's no cookie cutter way to winning with a build, you need to learn what works best with certain champions to ensure that you have a better chance at winning.

He's honestly not that bad.  If he rushes you down, just kledQ.png him and he won't be able to finish his combo.  He's only medium because he's known for counter jungling.




He's not really a big issue because he doesn't counter jungle often.  You can actually harass him pretty early.




He's not really too bad, but he can be really annoying if he catches you out.  If you have Skarl, then he's not going to be able to catch you.  He's hardly ever low in the jungle because of his passive and ult.




He's not really a big threat, but he can chase you pretty well.  It's probably even.




This guy has the potential of ruining your day.  Try not to die to him early and be wary of him jumping over walls at you.  


Lee Sin


This guy will ruin your day if he counter jungles you.  Make sure to have some sort of ward up so he doesn't go for an early kill on you.




You can actually duel her pretty effectively, but she's good at stalking.  She will ward your jungle and then wait for a good moment to pounce you.  She's a high skill cap champ.  In pre plat / diamond elo, she's probably not going to be a problem.




You might be able to kill him early on.  For the most part, he's not a big threat to you and he'll leave you alone for the most part.  




If he catches you low in the jungle then you are probably dead.  He is difficult to escape and prone to counter jungling.

Tips To Gaining Elo

These tips will not ensure that you'll win every game, but they can drastically improve your performance overall and make it EASIER to win games.
  1. Don't play when you're tired.  As much as you want to play at night, your reaction time slows down and you end up playing worse.  I lose most of my games at night.
  2. Upgrade 3361.png at lv 9.  Having extra wards on the map can actually win the game.  For 250g you get a sightstone that'll help you throughout the entire game.  
  3. Watch professional players play, and steal their tricks / read guides.  There's a reason why children of famous athletes oftentimes become famous athletes themselves, the influence of having a great role model.  Don't "figure out" how to play league of legends by trial and error, watch how diamond players handle their business on YouTube or some other site.  
  4. Play Character's that you're good at ranked.  If you love playing Vayne, but you hardly ever win, consider playing someone else.  You might have more fun with a certain champ, but it's also no fun rotting in low elo.  CHECK YOUR WIN RATES.
  5. Try to avoid really difficult champs ranked unless you really know how to play them.  I know that 157.png245.png238.png7.png4.png35.png11.png are really fun characters, but they are really bad for gaining elo most of the time. I have seen people maining these champs ranked with over a hundred games, and a win rate of like 45%.  I sometimes dodge games just because I have one of these champs on my team.  If you really want to rank up, use characters that you can win and play well with!
  6. Team fight and push, especially when you're ahead.  I hate playing on a smurf in low elo because NO ONE GROUPS.  GROUP UP AND PUSH.  The easiest and fastest games you'll ever play are the ones when your team comes together to fight and push.  You should only avoid grouping up if the enemy team is also grouping and is stronger than you.  Don't go back to lane when you kill someone, take the tower or help someone else!
  7. Use pings and communicate with your team.  "Darius, your laner ganked me"  "Use your map idiot."  Stop that nonsense and get some manners.  IF YOU WANT YOUR TEAM TO PERFORM BETTER THEN USE PINGS AND COMMUNICATE.  If someone is about to get ganked, if you want to get a tower, if you want a gank, if your laner is missing, just ping!!!  
  8. Ward.  Upgrade your ward item for 250g and have the equivalent of a sightstone.  If your team has no ward coverage, then you can assume the game is lost / almost impossible to win.  I have honestly won certain games by just warding.
  9. Don't blame people for your mistakes!!!  EVERYONE makes mistakes!  Your teams are not the reason why you are at a low elo, it's because you need to get a little better.  As long as you win MOST 50%+ of your games, you will raise in the ladder.  you can't win every single game, but you can win most of them.
  10. Don't fight, criticize, or complain about your team.  Stop telling them how to play and what to build, save that for post game.  Your team sucks, no one cares, and you're making them suck even more by mentioning it.  I have lost so many easy games because people fail to get along with each other.  DON'T GO AFK OR JUST NEVER GROUP IF YOU'RE MAD AT YOUR TEAM.  YOU WILL NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN AND YOU ONLY END UP HURTING YOURSELF AND YOUR ELO.
  11. MUTE toxic people, and ones who make you angry.  Whenever I see that I don't get along with some snarky team member, I just instantly mute them.  You can't argue with someone who is muted.  Press TAB and click on the mute icon by their name.  Not only am I a happier player, I actually end up being a better one.
  12. Don't play with your friends ranked unless they are a smurf.  I ONLY got to plat when I stopped playing with my friends.  Playing with your friends makes the competition even more difficult.  I know you love them, but they are no good for your elo, and oftentimes they are not better than an increased competition.
  13. Leave Ranked Games if your team seems trolly.  Support 2.png and jungle 35.png who has a 30% win rate?  Just leave.  From what I've seen, your MMR won't actually go down and you'll only lose a few lp for leaving (unless you leave multiple games consecutively).  We play to have fun, and it's no fun playing matches with trolls.  Don't be tenacious, leave when it's obvious that you should and you'll never regret it.  
  14. Don' t take league too seriously.  You will most likely not be an LCS player who makes money from video games, I'm sorry, the chances are the same as playing the lottery.  Play league for fun and enjoy what you do!

  • Really high mobility which gives you a lot of space to outplay your opponents
  • Pretty low cooldowns
  • You can kill people really fast
  • Kled is deceptively tanky and has more base health than people think
  • Can Build all AD and get away with it
  • Has a lot of CC and lockdown
  • Not many people really know how to play vs a Kled
  • Has an easy time ganking people, especially post 6.
  • Excels as a duelist


  • Has a pretty rough first back
  • It's really easy to miss your ult
  • Has a high learning curve
  • You are really vulnerable when dismounted
  • You have to play overly aggressive to do well
  • It's hard to lock down high priority targets in team fights.

How To Compensate For Cons 

  • Ask for a lot of help with first jungle minion to minimize the damage to Skarl
  • Practice a lot of your skills to get a feel for how Kled plays
  • Try to be aggressive when you get dismounted so you can get remounted instead of running.  
  • It's easier for Kled to use his R and catch a team off guard than for him to dive a high priority target.
  • It's probably better to peel a carry during a fight than go for the carries
