Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash is the must have Spell for every ADC

7.png Get Heal in every Game. Other Summoner Spells are just not worth it at the moment.

Masteries Back to Top

There are just a vew points i want to talk about in the Masterys, since it should be pretty self explanatory.

Fervor of Battle

This is a Keystone Mastery literally made for Kog'Maw, just the best one with the build im using, since you won't need any bonus lifesteal in the earlygame.

Bounty Hunter or Opressor

Depends on the matchup, if you are lanning with a cc heavy support (Thresh, Blitz, Leona) you can take Oppressor, but Bounty Hunter is way better lategame, and since you are a Late-Game Monster, i suggest you to pick Bounty Hunter.

R > W > E > Q

Take R whenever possible, otherwise take your W. Just go for these 2 Spells pre level 8, because you don't really need your Q in the lane.

The only time you will take your Q lvl 4 is, if you are getting poked and zoned hard, because you can get some lasthits with it - and farming much in the earlygame is the key of dominating with Kog'Maw.

EARLYGAME

Your first Items are always 1055.png and one 2003.png.
After your first back, you want to go straight towards 3153.png while only buying Tier 1 boots 1001.png  - you don't need more. Get a  1083.png aswell. After finishing your 3153.png, upgrade your boots 3006.png and build towards your 3085.png.

MIDGAME

After getting 3153.png  3006.png  3085.png, you can go 2 ways.

The first buildpath is the HYPERCARRY way, if you are already ahead and you don't think, they can really kill you before you kill them, so you kinda enter a Hypercarry state. Go for an 3124.png - the effect of this item on Kog'Maw after the changes is completly broken, your enemys will simply not expect you to deal THAT much damage after finishing this as your 3rd major item.

The Second buildpath is the SAFER way. After your 2 Damage Items, go for an Offtankish item; 3053.png or 3156.png.
Steraks Gage is the better Item of those 2, but if the enemy got an Assassine such as Leblanc, Ahri or Fizz, the Maw of Malmortius is the way to go.

LATEGAME

Your 5th item depends on your 4th. If you went for the Rageblade, get Steraks or Maw and the other way around.
Your 6th Itemshould be an Armorpene Item, and i like 3033.png at the moment more than 3036.png, beacuse of the changes to Grievous Wounds in 6.9. If you think, the enemy got near to no Armor, you can build a 3026.png  as your last Item aswel.

Other Items

3031.png 3072.png  are not worth their money, get other items on Kog'Maw instead.

3091.png is a nice item if the enemy has a thornmail/heavy Armor. In that case, get it as 4th or 5th item.

3036.png in 95% of your games, 3033.png mortal reminder is way better than this, grievous wounds got a huge buff not long ago.

3140.png A situational item only against Malzahar, Ahri, Thresh, Lissandra and so on. After the changes in 6.9, it's not one of my favourite items anymore, because you can't cleanse things like Zeds Ult anymore.

3102.png got huge nerfes to the health in 6.9, i don't recommend it. If you really need MR, get 3156.png and 3026.png.

3078.png is not a good item on Kog'Maw. Some players may say that this could work on Kog'Maw, but after some days of testing, it's really not good on him. Sure, you got way more sustain if you build this 1st or 2nd item, but your damage will be very poor until you get 2 or 3 other offensive items, and that's not the point of the item. I don't recommend you getting this.

Note: Never Build 3156.png and 3053.png together in one game, because the Passives will not work together. Also Upgrade your 3340.png into 3363.png as soon as you can.

EXAMPLE BUILDPATH:

 1055.png --> 1083.png1001.png1043.png --> 3153.png3006.png --> 3085.png --> 3053.png --> 3124.png --> 3033.png --> 2140.png

About the Author Back to Top

Hey Guys!

I'm Prinz Marth, an Austrian Diamond/Master ADC main. I played League since the early Season 1 and i started to play rankeds seriously in Season 3. Currently I'm Diamond 1 In EUW. I hope that my guide is helpful for everone, if you have questions, ask them down below and i will answer them. Sorry if my english isn't the best, it's my 2nd Language after all.

Early Gameplay Back to Top

Surviving the Earlygame is the key to success with Kog'Maw. A lot of lower elo people think, they need to win their lane and get as many kills as fast as possible to snowball a game and win it. This is NOT necessary as Kog'Maw! Do not risk a dive with your Jungler if you are not 100% sure that there will be no countergank, for example.

Your main Goal in the Earlygame is to farm a lot while not dying. Against very lane-dominant matchups (like 40.png & 51.png or 236.png and 201.png) , you are very likely to lose on CS, but don't worry. A 20 CS deficit on Kog'Maw means near to nothing, because your Teamfight Power will be amazing anyways.

With an aggressive Support (more detail in next section below), you want to go for trades after you get a lasthit with your W, but be careful to not overstep - for example you clear the last melee Minion on the 3rd Wave with your W, because you are getting zoned, try to get 2-4 hits with your W on the enemy ADC or Support, but as i said, do not aim for longer trades.

Kog'Maw is very powerful in clearling dragons early on ( ~ lvl 5-8). If there is an Infernal or Ocean Drake, tell your Jungler to play bot centric and get the dragon early on - it will boost your Mid- to Lategame.

I personally set my Goal in the Earlygame not to die before min 10 and get at least the same CS as the enemy ADC. If you manage to do that, you are in pretty good shape ;).

Support Synergies Back to Top

There are 2 different Kinds of Support:

AGGRESSIVE/HEALING SUPPORTS

Aggressive supports are all about trading with the enemy. They either buff your autoattacks or go in to trade and poke themselves. Those supports are very good if you are playing a safe lane, because the enemy will lose the sustain damage, due to the  shields and heals your support will offer. I personally think that these supports fit better with Kog'Maws playstyle, but defensive supports can be good aswell.

DEFENSIVE/TANKY SUPPORTS

Defensive or tanky supports soak up a lot of damage to try to keep you safe and let you do the damage for them. With these supports you will need some assistance from your Jungler and you will normally get less CS than our opponents ADC, because they will outtrade you early on. Against imobile ADCs like Jinx, MF or Ashe, those supports can generate early kills if they manage to jump onto them or pull them towards you. If your team lacks a tanky champ, do not hurry to get one in the support role together with Kog'Maw, it's not too bad.

GOOD SUPPORTS FOR KOG'MAW

Aggressive/Healing Supports:

117.png - Probably the best Support you can imagine. She will give you shields and AA buffs while knocking everyone into the air if they try to kill you - Also works great if your Midlaner or Toplaner picks her up.

40.png . Provides you defensive shields which buff your AD. She got huge amounts of CC with her Q and R. Trading in Lane has never been that easy.

267.png - One of the best Supports at the moment IMO. Great Heal, AA bonus damage, slows, hard CC, trading and a AOE CC Ult? What else could u want?

16.png - Heals, heals, and more heals. It's great in theory, but because Kog'Maw lacks in Early Trades, her heals won't help you much to win the lane - I think she is the worse than Nami here. Silence is great against certain champs tho.

143.png - An upcoming support with much potential. She can outtrade both enemy ADCs and Support if played properly, but she lacks in shielding/healing.

Honorable Mentions:

432.png - Bard is more like a roam Support, not much help in lane unless he gets a doublestun, but that won't happen that often.

43.png - There are better options like Nami and Lulu. She does the same but not as good.

Defensive/tanky Supports

201.png - Probably the best tanky Support to pick up right now. Works well with any ADC, slightly less effective with Kog'Maw because of his immobility - Braum likes an ADC who can follow-up on his engages.

412.png - The threshW.png Lantern is very nice to escape ganks or create an opportunity for your Jungler to gank, but he isn't that useful later on, when the enemy tanks/assassines are trying to kill you. A well placed threshQ.png grab can win you the lane, but those are very rare.

Honorable Mentions:

53.png - can Solocarry Games, but will not help Kog'Maw in any way, i don't recommend it in any elo above Plat.

12.png - Generally a strong Support, but his aim is to win the earlygame and this will rarely happen with Kog'Maw. He fits well if your Jungler will gank Botlane often, his towerdives are amazing.
