Every ADCs run flash heal in the current meta of patch 7.24.


96.png  is different tho, as he is the only ADC  that does  % Health Magic Damage consistently meaning there is room for changing what summoners he/you chooses.

[42.png  is mid lane, and isn't recommended bot lane for various reasons]

In order for Kog' Maw to do damage he has to heavily rely on his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png. As such barrier,cleanse, and exhaust can offer him the extra comfort you may want. However, you risk a very poor laning phase running 1.png3.png21.png is very strong with a healing/ranged support and keeps your HP very high to do dmg during your kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png.


Overall, you may run 4.png7.png every game, due to EVERY other ADC running heal secondary. As you improve, you will understand match ups better so you can know when to take 1.png3.png21.png. [Purposely sacrificing laning phase to be more dominant late game/mid game]  


(i.e: 3.png vs 91.png is optimal if your team lacks heavy CC/ Peeling/ Peel Support)

I will be explaining certain runes as well as different build(s) that is stronger/ more interesting you may not consider/know about that is very strong with 96.png

Keystones Explanation(s)

Lethal%20Tempo.png?width=64 Lethal Tempo

- This is the go to runes for ADCs that HEAVILY rely on auto attacks. Kog Maw kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png dmg is only dealt by how much he autos in 8 seconds. Afterwards without Kog' Maw kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png he has to wait on average 8 to 10 seconds before getting his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png back up to do the best damage. 

- Lethal Tempo on 7.24 got buffed recently from a downtime of 10 seconds -> 6 seconds, this is huge for an ADC such as Kog who has a small window of insane damage spike. Ideally you want kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png to be active with Lethal%20Tempo.png?width=32. You will melt anyone if these 2 effects stack together with a normal Kog build.

- As of 7.24 PTA got nerf significantly. 

Patch Note:

 UPDATEDPRESS THREE ATTACKSExposure is now added to targets after the damage from the attack that applies it

- To my understanding this means that the PTA adaptive damage isn't increase in any way, so the (exposure) 30 - 120 Adaptive damage will not get enhanced from Exposure (12% increase damage from all sources).

Note: True Damage isn't affected at all by PTA damage enhance. 

- It is tempting to still run this keystone due to the 12% increase dmg, combining with a popular rune Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 (Coup De Grace, 10% increase dmg to 40% or lower health champions)

- I recommend running PTA still if you have a ranged support that heals/shield  40.png43.png267.png or with ranged damaging supports such as 142.png143.png63.png

Fleet%20Footwork.png?width=64 Fleet Footwork (FF)
- The last keystone of the precision tree that ADC can run. 

- It got hugely buffed as of 7.24

NEWCRITICAL LEVELS: If the attack that activates Fleet Footwork is a critical hit, Fleet Footwork's healing is increased by 40% of your critical damage modifier

- Since Kog' Maw can build AP/AD (3124.png) and benefit in his kit's damage from both I highly recommend running Fleet%20Footwork.png?width=32 if you feel laning/sustaining in lane is an issue, as well as mobility during team fights.

- Most notable buff/change is the crit % change which makes running Fleet%20Footwork.png?width=32 best on ADCs, since they build crit %.


Runes (non-keystone)


- There are a ton of runes to discuss but lets focus on the ones I picked out for the other optional Kog'Maw builds

[I will not cover "Eyeball Collection" and "Cheap shot" in detail due to how popular/simple the runes are]

Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=64 Ravenous Hunter (spell vamp)

- Kog benefits from this rune on all his abilities, and most notably his auto due to kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png  

- I recommend switching to this rune in the domination tree over Taste%20of%20Blood.png?width=32, which has a 20 seconds  static cool down
- 2.5 % default spell vamp, turning to + 2.5% per unique champion kill leading to 15% total spell vamp. kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png is a single target spell meaning it will get the full value from Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 (15% spell vamp).

- Kog maw has 2 single target abilities on his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png and kogmawq.png ,meaning he basically has life steal if W is on and Kog is not full HP. Also his Q is a burst of heal and is an auto reset.

- I encourage everyone to try this rune over taste for blood combine with eye ball collection  in the domination tree. 

Gathering%20Storm.png?width=64 Gathering Storm

- Kog'Maw is a late game champion this a good rune if you want to run Sorcery secondary for mana

- Alternatively, Kog can runTranscendence.png?width=32 and not need Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32  to have more up-time on kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png, since Kog never builds CDR in general.

- I listed the most standard Kog ability order in the patch 7.24 meta. 

- The only difference I recommend are:

  - going 2 points in kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png (lv 1-3) and getting kogmawq.png lv 4

  - Another is maxing kogmawq.png second for more attack speed to abuse Lethal%20Tempo.png?width=32, or alternating skill points between kogmawq.png and kogmawvoidooze.png 

- Maxing kogmawvoidooze.png as the 2nd ability is highly recommended due to the CD decrease and Slow % Increase. 
kogmawvoidooze.png is Kog only way to get enemies off himself. 


kogmawvoidooze.png slow scaling is: 20/28/36/44/52%   

kogmawq.png has % Armor/Magic Resist Reduction as well as passive attack speed.

Starting Items

    Standard starting on most ADCs. Kog maw doesn't need Doran's Ring due to his low mana cost early. Cull is not recommended at all or Kog will lose lane hard.

Core Items

    Kog'maw damage heavily lies in his W activated. These items all are on hit effect items, which if combined with Kog's W will melt % health of all enemies.

Situational Items

    Kog'Maw really needs the 3 on hit items, but depending on the situation and enemy team draft you may need to build these items accordingly.

Situational items explanation:


- I will cover the situational items only, starting and core items are very self explanatory on Kog' Maw.

- Note the core item description regarding On Hit for why I will not cover starter/core items.

- 2nd life, upon death Kog will come back to life which usually means your kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png will come back off cool down. Also just having GA gives you a big sense of security to maximizing your DPS while you have kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png

- CON: gold cost, not on hit oriented, big cool down once proc

- build when enemy tanks have a ton of MR [3194.png takes a big chunk of Kog's dmg away due to how his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png works]

- excellent item if you can split push or force 1v1 vs squishies a lot. (Mid/ADC)

- CON: expensive, not on hit oriented

- even good to add onto core items

- build when vs heavy poke bot lane [267.png143.png43.png] , makes them trying to poke you in auto range (or W empower) extremely risky and can All In them from the MR you get. [You can build as first item vs these match-ups as well]

- on hit item, kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png synergizes well with this item
- decent counter to 3194.png 

- Con: not gold efficient in stats [3091.png must need stacks, compare to 3124.png which has default AD and can stack granting even more AD/AP]

- instead of runann's hurricane can build PD if a lot of melees 

- stronger dueling item

- not recommended in most cases

-Con: lost of 3085.png on hit AOE and wave clear

- just good to build vs armor stacking tanks

- despite being on hit, Kog has decent AD and autos are AD by default

-3036.png: has % health damag, AD item but has on hit effect Kog can abuse combine with kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png

  kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png and Kog's naturally high attack speed synergize with this item the best

- Con: Realistically None, build accordingly

-When versus  90.png  and etc. just build to make them not want to lock Kog down, allowing you to do tons of dmg during kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png

- Con: no attack speed, BOTRK is the go to life steal, extra MR is meaningless once it is late game (for 96.png and the enemy mages)  -> better to build for CC that is very strong and easy to hit.

ex: [ 57.png 54.png 113.png,etc.]

Caitlyn has always been a pet peeve for many ADCs . . . who aren't playing her.


51.png, has a default range of 650

Even with kogmawvoidooze.png , a good Cait will set up the minion wave to her advantage to freely poke you with her long ranged autos.

Cait's main weakness is attack speed and when she misclick or auto at the wrong time. Your support or jungle/mid can set up easy gank if she does not keep track of their cooldowns/location.

Play near your turret, unless she is mismanaging the wave.

Recommended: Doran's Shield -> Core items -> GA/QSS (traps, net)/ LW or Wits End

VS

Draven

Easy
- Like 429.png119.png lost 6162.png which is a huge loss in his damage due to Draven being auto reliant in a similar fashion as Kalista.

- the biggest lane bully of all the ADCs, one kill may be all he needs to never lose 2v2

- however, his biggest weakness is playing under your turret to a chain cc + jungle gank coming [Losing any chance he has at snowballing the lane to a heavy 2v2 favor]

- once he dies once with 50+ stack, he loses 70% of his stacks making his comeback gold kill very lackluster as it was before

-a Draven without a gold lead is a useless Draven [so long as you play laning phase passive and smart] that can never hope to match you in DPS, other then sustaining with natural strong life stealing in Draven build/kit

- recommended to go doran's shield->hurricane->botrk->guinsoo's

VS

Ezreal

Hard
- Ezreal biggest spike is when both Kog and Ezreal have not bought yet, he has the mobility to chase you down if you are not near your turret with enemy jungler and lane bully you. [ This is further emphasize with Kleptomancy.png?width=32, allowing Ezreal to  purchase random item spikes]

- as item purchases continue Ezreal must have3078.png while you can just keep building  Attack Speed  towards your 3 Core Items.

- Ezreal ezrealarcaneshift.pngCD early is ~15s on average simply shove or bully him hard while his gap closer in on CD [ezrealmysticshot.pnghit on champ lower CD by 1 second]

-recommended: to rush early lifesteal vs Ezreal and to go Doran's shield to reduce ezrealmysticshot.png poke 

VS

Jinx

Easy

- Jinx wants to bully the hell out of kogmaw early, so long as she has some extra ad item her Q ranged rockets are a major threat to your hp pool

  however, her auto is very slow in this form without 3 short autos

- simply play around the minion wave,hopefully with a good shielding/AP supp, and jungler. Without AD jinx wave clear is almost even to Kog'Maw.

- recommended: doran's blade/guinsoo->runan->botrk-> situational items

- watch out for her reset movement speed to chase you down from getting a kill or assist.

VS

Kalista

Easy
- Kalista lost 6162.png which is a huge loss of her trading dmg, she heavily relies on kalistaexpungewrapper.png with Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32 in effect. 

- Kalista is the strongest lane bully from last season carrying over to the preseason as well due to press the attack with her rend ability

- it is highly recommended to not trade with Kalista at all due to her rend ability able to reset off minions, and focus heavily on wave clearing -> jungle assistance

- you can mess up her passive easily with your slow trail, possibly forcing rend on CD and making her feel clunky

- at 6 Kalista 2v2 threat evolves due to her R as a peel and initiation tool watch out for that ability and enemy jungle when her ult is available

-however in terms of DPS kogmaw heavily wins a long with range during Kog's kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png

-recommended: dorans' blade->runan->guinsoo->botrk

VS

Miss Fortune

Hard

As of patch 7.24 MF is a top tier ADC due to Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 with her missfortunescattershot.png . 


- MF missfortunericochetshot.png  is a strong laning ability that when MF tries to combo with her Q will put  Kog to half HP instantly.

- MF prevents you from shoving due to her laning presenceand her passive just has no downtime as long as she keeps reapplying it by switching targets

- Due to her innate ability to be a lane bully, let MF push towards your side of the map/turret, and set up a gank from your JG/Mid

- Kog'Maw cannot deal with poke, like 81.png it is best to just get to your item spike and play for team fights that your team can set up. 

VS

Twitch

Easy
- Twitch and Kog'Maw are very similar, however twitch is ult reliant while you are W reliant. Keep track of Twitch's twitchfullautomatic.png as that as his best chance to pop off and spam twitchhideinshadows.png.

-Twitch has a very poor laning phase compare to Kog however his stealth is a force to be wreck en with because he can affects other lane by roaming to them or even surprising you in lane. In general if someone is picked off, be careful of fighting a Twitch in a numbers disadvantage.

- Let your team know if twitch is MIA, when he should be in lane after purchasing or suddenly disappear for no reason as he is in lane.

- Twitch melts enemies by AOE while Kog melts single target faster with minor AOE take note of this.

-recommended: dorans' blade->guinsoo->runan->botrk->situational items

VS

Xayah

Hard

The  good thing about this match up is 498.png auto range is the same as 67.png (525 range).


498.png has CC in her xayahe.png, mobility with xayahw.pngxayahr.png that counter kog's kit for laning phase. (kogmawvoidooze.png)

All in all this match up heavily relies on the supports as well as the "better" jungler, whichever ADC gets punish more will survive the laning phase and can carry in mid to late game.

Notes

S+

- These supports support Kog's on hit ( kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png) in some way.

- Not only that, they also have CC's in some way (some more then other) to peel for Kog as well

- Lastly, these supports are ranged and are consider "lane dominant", allowing Kog to have a smooth laning phase to the point where Kog can buy his Core Items and " 1 v 5".

S

- As of 7.24, tank supports are still very strong, due to this fact poke and heal focused supports cannot help Kog as much due to the risk of a good engage from tank supports.

Guardian.png?width=32 and Aftershock.png?width=32 are the major keystones supporting these tank supports. While Second%20Wind.png?width=32 is a key rune for tank supports to dominate lane with free sustain.

- Since Kog cannot be buffed by these champs to make his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png optimized, they are instead create a pressure in lane that forces enemy ADC/Bot Lane to be more cautious trying to punish Kog's early game (laning phase).

A

- These supports are close to S but don't make the cut because they either aren't tanky enough, mobile, or synergize well with Kog

- These are great/ok supports  make no mistakes, however how this tier of support benefit/synergize with Kog isn't "optimal"

- For example: 53.png and 25.png are good all in champs during laning phase. One is tankier the other has more dmg for the situations. However, Kog wants to focus on farming in order to secure his items in a safe manner.

- A smart Kog does not want to lose 2v2 in any way [hp pool, bad trades] and get jungle pressure [lee sin,etc] -> trying to avoid bad fights is definitely a very smart strategy for Kog in order to abuse his on-hit item spikes. 

B

- As of 7.24, poke supports aren't reliable supports due to Summon%20Aerie.png?width=32 being nerf.

- However, poke ADC such as 110.png with Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 is extremely scary for Kog

- With these poke heavy support (squishy), you can bully 2v2 hard, but make one mistake Kog's laning phase is not going to end well.

- Jungle also exist and when Kog combine with these support are in lane together, expect to get ganked or even camped.

Support Match-ups [When playing against]


- Here is the ratings for enemy supports that will make your laning phase from hard to easy mode. [Laning phase to Mid Game]

- These supports are either poke heavy oriented or extremely strong engage that can lock Kog down

- Supports that can poke with mobility can make you miss kogmawvoidooze.png or waste a lot of duration of kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png  when trading vs them in 2v2

- Supports that can poke with out mobility (143.png 161.png63.png), are still bad match-ups versus Kog because of their innate damage and "zoning" potential [From CSing/Trading with ADC/etc].

- Tank supports/engage supports listed in the "Hard Section", are tough match-ups versus Kog due to how easy it is for them to set up ganks for their allied jungler, as well as zoning from CSing [especially if you are low on HP].

Medium

- These supports are poke oriented or strong engage, however they lack in their strengths to an extent. [not as strong poke, not as strong engage]

- For example 37.png has very strong poke, however she has a very low HP pool and mobility early on in the game (especially laning).

- Another example 53.png is a solid engage, however if 53.png misses his rocketgrab.png he will leave his ADC vulnerable to Kog or has to trade unreliably with his autos or powerfist.png . 

- These supports tend to favor setting up a jungle gank from their jungler, or even a countergank depending on if these supports played to chunk Kog's HP (counter gank, Kog is near his turret) or play defensive (Kog is closer towards their side of the map).

Easy

- These supports kits is not in their favor versus a Kog

- They are extremely mobile or extremely tanky in most cases which doesn't matter versus Kog [Need poke/Solid Engage]

- For example 201.png  's braume.png makes him take a ton on damage once Kog has 3085.png . This is because Braum absorbs all the bolts from the item if it is procing. 201.png is very tanky however kogmawvoidooze.png makes it hard for him to secure his trading/all ins/gank set up. 

- Another example is 497.png who is extremely mobile, however if Rakan messes up rakanw.png rakane.pngrakanr.png  Rakan is just extremely mobile if he doesn't ht these abilities. Rakan laning phase depends on his ADC, however kogmawvoidooze.png and good side stepping enable Kog to feel confident laning versus him. 

- Lastly, 142.png26.png are minor poke champions because of their short range or short mobility. Nothing to worry about unless enemy jungler is near.



Tips and Tricks Back to Top


Abilities (Q,W,E,R) Tips and Tricks


kogmawq.png  is an auto reset, easier to notice without having your kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png due to Q's short range and travel time. Knowing how to use kogmawq.png to auto reset is crucial in winning laning phase/early trading.

kogmawq.png shreds 20~28% resistance for 4 SECONDS, just getting this ability of to anyone trying to stop you from doing damage with kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png  will melt their resistance and of course their HP. Your teammates can also benefit hugely from the defensive stats being shredded from your opponent.

kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png is Kog's main source of dmg and gives him a significant auto attack range boost depending on the ability level (630/650/670/690/710). Kog's default auto attack range is 500, be very careful when trying to last hit or hit champions without your W up. Kog has 8 seconds to make use of his W with an approx down time scaling from 12 seconds to 8 seconds when maxed. 

kogmawvoidooze.png , is Kog's only form of CC. Without this ability, KogMaw cannot secure kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png dmg by himself/trade during laning phase. Make sure to have kogmawvoidooze.png available with kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png up for team-fights or all ins in lane. 

kogmawlivingartillery.png, the main tip to this ability is learning the range as it scales from 6/11/16. I recommend using abilities' indicator range in your key-bind settings in game. As you play with the range indicator, eventually you will learn how to predict how your enemies will path when trading/teamfighting/ trying to run low hp/ etc. and hit a lot of kogmawlivingartillery.png. You may even secure kills with this ability, however the main issue with doing this is you are spamming too much kogmawlivingartillery.png and it can OOM you. [ The more R in rapid succession increases mana cost]

Avoid throwing kogmawlivingartillery.png when enemy ADCs try to CS as your stacks will go up too much, and ADCs tend to sustain easily during laning phase, unless there is heavy trading.

Match ups Notes (Tips/Tricks)


- In general, Kog'Maw loses lane. Trying to abuse enemy bot lane in 2v2 can be a common strategy but you risk getting gank (due to your range with kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png up) . Overall focusing on wave clearing and not hitting the turret early on in the game is a good strategy to reduce the chance(s) enemy jungler may hover your lane.

- Champions that can deny Kog from pushing out due to Poke/Mobility are a major issue in patch 7.24

- If Kog cannot get CS gold or champion kills/assists, it will take him a long time to scale smoothly and get his items

- Do not be afraid to start Doran's Shield to counter this, rushing tier 1 boots, etc. 

- Note the support and jungle match ups, do not rely on your support just because he/she works well with Kog -> Pay attention to their play style/patterns and adjust how to play accordingly

- Vice versa, you can let your support know you want to focus on farming and poking for free/ at a bare min -> prevents jungle ganks and poor 2v2ing

Gameplay


- Binding "auto attack move click to right click/your default mouse button for CSing to auto" is very helpful, make sure to turn on attack nearest to your cursor setting. You may also use a button like most masters+ players who were so used to using it on "A". (This was before Riot introduced the right click bind option)

- Especially when you have kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png , make sure you are pathing forward/backward as needed depending on the flow of the team fights /2v2 bot lane. Avoid being out of range just barely as that is basically an auto cancel. [Avoid just standing still and autoing once you turn on kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png because you only have 8 seconds up time, ~8 seconds downtime]

This happens if you are being stationary/standing still in crucial moments for poking/team fighting/laning, try to never have 96.png trying to walk forward when he was already autoing because you are standing still.

Give up some autos (1-3) to secure more autos during the 8 seconds duration of kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png.

Of course, respect Crowd Control effects so you may have to give up a lot of kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png duration or you can try and save it after the tanks go in on you/your team. [High risk/High reward concept]

kogmawlivingartillery.png is best used during 2v2, when you know your opponents don't want to trade anymore and are pathing back. Predict how they path backwards accordingly. During teamfight kogmawlivingartillery.png is best used on the front line you are DPSing, remember the lower your enemies are the more damage kogmawlivingartillery.png does.  [ In team-fights avoid kogmawlivingartillery.png on full HP back line, just wasting mana/ no damage ]

kogmawlivingartillery.png Lastly, is a great skill shot at level 16 to scout out vision. Do not be afraid to waste this ability due to its shot cool down, watch out for making the mana cost too high from multiple casts.

Kog'Maw Strategy/Generic Gameplay


- Again, Kog is not a lane dominant champion due to his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png CD (downtime) and only lasting 8 seconds. Without a ton of attack speed the  8 second duration doesn't mean much.

- Analyze how your opponent laners play and focus on CSing, while putting decent pressure on their hp pool.

- If you fall behind (i.e: losing first turret very fast) try to let your team do the work and play to farm/push out lanes and rotating to your team

Triumph.png?width=32 and Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 healing is very surprising abuse these rune effects to bait your enemies into misplaying

- I have not talk about kogmawpassive.png, it is a "punish" if the enemy team over commits to you and all of them lost a ton of HP during your kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png . It is a "useless" passive, but hey more damage to your stats.



- Hextech 96.png is cute and new get this skin and make your opponent fascinate over you.

  A little background about me.


  I am Musics in the North American server and have been D1-Master tier since last season (7).

  I have been playing league for approximately 7 years and have been diamond for 5 years. I have been coaching friends and people that request my help for free for around 3 years. I explain subjects related to League of Legends well, however I have no experience making video in general. I will try and learn how to make proper YouTube videos to make video version(s) of my guide(s) so stay tune for that!

I have been online throughout the League community vocally through many ways.
